There is no more strategic value, and no one has the spending to take care of it. Most of those old forts has wooden internal structures, once it rots aways, well the roof goes away.

new france and the region of ontario are quite old though

modern Canada (the confederation) is 1860s but if you want to count the colonies (New France) it's much earlier

For the US you could either reason the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 is the birth of the US or you could also say when the US got its 50th state as the beginning of it as a country as we know it imo
