No vehicle is odd yea
Well Solar auxilia just lost 70% of their army
With no indication
If it’ll be in legacies
They really could have got rid of the big turret thing and put a vehicle in instead
how does HH have legacy units
Marines lost a ton of options, rules got worse, list building is way more linear
i thought it was the legacy game
Legacies is just stuff GW doesn’t produce a mini for
Which was
Most of Solar auxilia
ah god fucking damn it they 10thified HH
Mechanicum lost a ton of options with no indication on it
No
It’s worse
lol
Because they lied about it

They said 3e would have no sweeping changes
most people were happy with HH because it was expressly not a overly competitive game
Ignore the fact they, completely redid force org, weapon stats, army building, several datasheets, army rules
It’s still not
Heresy 3e just sucks
Imo
streamlining the game mechanics is straight up making it more competitive oriented
There’s some actual good info
It’s not though
Rules got more complex this edition overall lol
Due to how challenges are like 18 pages
Worth of rules
Except no more warlord traits or relics
And now you have gambits
oh i actually like the duel rules they look fun
The duel rules are neat
Just
I dislike how they’re integrated
lol
I dislike how over emphasized they are
Armies lost warlord traits and relics for this
And rites of wars
ah man the relics were the best part of HH
i wonder if i lost the graviton shredders
anyways saturnine is lame
for iron hands?
I got some bad news

But but but we made a website! And fake leaks!
yeah
did they delete iron hands
legion unique units
or smth
Well
Delete is the wrong word
shatter their kneecaps and beat half to death all their unique units? yes
i wasn't a fan of the gorgons and immortals tbh
Gorgons can only take powerfist + combiweapons
i dont mind
WHAT
i kitbashed that shit for nothing man
aside from named characters
Oh also
if you have veterans
with more then 1 melee weapon option
they're all unusable now

Because veterans are ranged weapons spam now
because fuck you
No sweeping changes btw
and i assume all the unique vehicle relics are gone too
why did they do this
idk
ask GW
10e has relics and warlord traits still
but Heresy doesn't
if you told me this
like 1 year ago
I'd have called you a liar
so that's why GW has been pumping out so many random characters
for saying that of all the systems to not have relics/wlts or an equivelent system
It would be fucking heresy
Oh also GW are reselling rules to you piece meal for 35$ per book
this isn't supplemental narrative stuff
this is stuff removed from the liber and legacies
Master of Signals? gone
but he is in this 35$ supplement

Thanatar maniple? also gone
but guess what
35$ Supplement
welp guess that means i'm never actually playing tabletop
🏴☠️
i still have shredders in my models
yeah i'll prob just play 2e
well 3e is one of the editions of all time
but this is like insane for GW
to have like lied in this manner lol
thankfully the editons dont need constant updates so i can stick to 2 and it wont be a mess
Because they've literally never done that before for game rules
lol
its like if GW said for AoS 4e they would have a BIG EMPHESIS ON MORALE and Armybuilding and manifestations will be like 3e
AoS 4e has no morale rules
and here i thought the saturnine box was the worst part of the year for HH
and armybuilding is completely different
and manifestations are also different
its such a blatent lie its crazy
because GW just has not done that before
so people were expecting Heresy 3e
to be similar to 2e
hell 9e to 10e is less changes then Heresy 2e to 3e
they'll prob tone down the changes after a while
Yea their announcement stream basically said they were only going to be expanding and building on the existing 2e rules
So like yikes
im guessing HH makes most of its sales from character models so corporate pushed the changes
i hope at least
They literally can't
this is all baked into the core rules
Maybe if HH takes a hit to the stomach they Will focus their money into other factions
they'll just refocus to imperialis
ig its more like Old world then munda
Yeha but it’s the biggest of the side games
ye
imperialis is like a side game to the side game
I don't like shitting on GW for no reason but boy
do I have a reason to shit on GW for Heresy 3e lol
HH 3.5 coming in 2-3 months
so small it has to be lumped in with HH despite being completely different games
Lmao
lmao
AoS 1.5e ass update to Heresy 3e
to salvage it
I don’t like shitting on gw either as long as they don’t do illegal stuff
i can't wait for imperialis to be discontinued in 3 years only for it to be rebooted again later
‘They took down my space marine stls’ I’m sorry but it is just copy right infringement
I mean they did do false advertising
for Heresy 3e I'd say
like
they advertised 3e as having no sweeping changes and would build on 2e
it's only false advertising if what they advertise isn't the product
Yeah idk what they are smoking
But they did alot a lot of posts about HH’s rules lmao
yeah I've got a question, what the fuck is this
What the fuck do any of those mean
Why did you rename literally everything
Range Firepower(attacks) ranged strength, AP(you know what this is) damage(d)
now i have to reread the millions of special rules
why did they seperate ranged strength and melee strength>
literally no reason
they work the exact same
btw

maybe for sword guns
What is an armourbane
bayonet bolters
Why is it impossible to type
Armourbane is a 40k/heresy keyword that just means you murder armor better
probably has reroll on pen chance or some shit
its a weapon keyword
normal las isn't like a lascannon probably
which is a thing in 40k and 30k
its more a thing in 30k
but certian things only work with certian keywords
Ah
I.E the imperial fists old army rule bolter drill
shockingly only works with bolters
there were a bunch of weird one off weapon keywords in 2e
anyways
mostly custodes stuff
Custodes and blackshields
lol
Xenolock weaponry
disintegrator
a bunch of exotic melee
i hope the duel gameplay will make up for this shit
ignore duels?
steal it from 3e and put it in 2e
Yes also
lol
Iron Warriors have a rule where every unit with X" fires on whoever declares a duel
i thought duels were added to prevent primarchs from completely ravaging the field
Nightlords have a rule that if you have an infantry squad within a few inches
you can grab any dude
and just have them get stabbed instead
Well they already did that lol
Priamrchs got nerfed to shit
Corax's claws have AP4
lol
sounds like something alpha legion would do
And deal 1 damage
Oh also Saturine Praetors are broken as shit
because BUY NEW THING
see that's shit. they could have remained OP while still being forced to duel while the rest of the board plays the game
Saturine praetors are genuinely better then a chunk of the primarchs
lol
also Horus Ascended might be the worst unit in the game now
what a shame that saturnine looks like garbage
I like the Saturnines though
but he's a psyker
Tbh if you like how saturine looks thats fine, but I think the way the rules are written for them
is kind of stupid
they really saw the handful of 40k fans who talk about saturnine and decided to focus a whole damn edition on big shoulders
Praetor Blobimus should not be able to beat Lorgar to death with his hammer
now granted that is a really funny mental image
but the primarchs being so bad and saturine praetors being so good is uh
and again who tf would buy the box when all the units are already available in other forms
well its a choice from GW
the mark 3 box came with a fucking land raider
Also mechanicum and solar auxillia have no primarch or saturine praetor equivelent
that had 3 build options!!!
so they get their teeth bashed in by Saturine Praetors
If I did get Saturnine it wouldn't be for HH though, I'd use them 40k CSM
Ye
why is it both dreads and termies

The only issue I have with saturine lore wise is the whole mildly psychic potential thing
which feels weird
and the dread is so bland it looks like the deredeo body with a different top
Aside from that I actually love how the praetor looks
the normal saturine I think would look better if they gave them like
the same waist towel thingy
where did their little top gun go
wtf do you call this cloth thing
btw
I have a crass nickname for it but does it have an actual name for it
Different armor
Vulkans Experimental terminator armor is different from Saturine
lol
The Saturnine Praetor is also a similar size profile to a 40k Daemon Prince
huh really?
neat
look at how close it is to the leviathan!!!
it's literally the same lower body
how lazy can you be
So stick some more metal bits on the Praetor and you've got an Iron Warriors Daemon Prince
it looks better
The cloth?
just an FYI the last big box edition you got a spartan and in this one you get a fucking tarantula turret
tabard
its not a tarantula
but yes
did they really make the legs super long to justify its unit size
it would almost be terminator size if it wasn't for the legs

stupid its only gun options are accelerator auto cannons imo
It's a scapular, but like it's like a fantasy thing rather than a real world historical thing
thank you
autocannons are cool though
well yeah
but its called an anti tank platform
its only got accelerator auto cannons as an option
which are not great anti tank
they're great for light vehicles and aircraft
i can guarantee you it has anti air rules too
Anti air models in 40k are weird, like you'd only take a Hydra if you were going to face aircraft, but nobody really uses aircraft because they suck, but if you make the aircraft not suck then people will take them and others will start taking anti air which will just shoot down the aircraft, making them suck still.
No
Aircraft in both 40k and 30k don't function like real aircraft lol
All 40K games should be played on 500 foot by 300 foot boards
But I love my Voidraven and Razorwing
so do I
Like Aeronoticalis something
I love my hemlock wraithfighter
And there should be a 1500 page rule manual filled exclusively with aeronautics terms from Double Eagle, dedicated 2 Dilara
hydra should be a really good anti swarm unit or smth
Funnily enough
it is good anti semi elite/elite infantry rn
S9 D3 fucking eats marines alive
and can make custodes fall over dead as well
funny
S9 wounds marines on 2
Ap -1 makes their save worse
D3 is an instakill if it gets through
but not enough people realize that an AA gun makes for excellent anti infantry
S9 wounds Stodes and tougher marines on 3's
oh also
its dirt fucking cheap
its like 95 points or some shit for a hydra and since 10e has free wargear
it comes with a free roulette instakill gun as well with an HKM
big downside is the Leman Russ Exterminator is generally better iirc
the instant delete missile
why of all things GW decided to keep from the way more detailed armour days did they choose the missile
Hunterkiller missile? idk
its iconic ig
guard players miss dozer blades and armored treads lol
but Hunterkiller missiles never leave
weird that they didn't ever add a dedicated hunter killer missile tank
like a manticore variant or smth
and guard get free hunter killers
Tau have one
but not guard
i kinda dont like weapons that are meant to be gambles
yeah because 10th
anyways this is the Tau Hunter killer tank
who knows what will happen larer
11e has wargear costs back
so
yeah
also iirc
there is a chimera variant thats a Hunterkiller missile merchant
im more annoyed that guard vehicles have so little free space for add ons
everywhere i put the missile it still looks stupid
what?
The Chimerro is the most basic modification of the Chimera, armed with an auto-loading hunter-killer missile and a multi-laser. It is used by the Astra Militarum and Skitarii.[1]
Lol
sounds like a cancer treatment
of course it's some 2nd edition thing
man why do tau vehicles have to go so hard
Because the greater good goes hard
it's hard for me to hate tau when they look so cool
that thing looks like it was designed by skynet also
There's also the fucking harbringer which is a modified hammerhead
thats basicially an AWACS for Tau drones lol
It also only shows up like once ever outside of the dawn of war games
the bomber?
Nah
its a ground vehicle
which is why its weird
It being whats essentially an Electronic warfare/AWACS thing
this is my favorite tau vehicle though. I love the hammerhead
because for every hammerhead there's like
one morbillion fucking Russes
Tau tank ace records are in lore overinflated
both from propaganda and like
bad reporting
that's only because imperium has one gajillion factories
Tbf
a hammerhead might blow up a Russ but like
It also is kind of lighter armored
with that main gun does it really matter
ehhhhh not really
wait this is 40k
it does matter since a melta gun will still find its way
or a guy with a power sword
lol
hammerheads go down much easier then russes
comparitively tbh
lighter armor
the gun is the real scary part of them
Also tau always need to somewhat get nerfed for the Imperials to usually win engagements.
and the maneuverability
i'm guessing less variety too
For like 10 IRL years 💀
Tau don't get lore accurate drone warfare unless it needs to be a curbstomp
lol
YEP
russ has more experimental guns than tau has actual guns
Like you can probably realistically win an engagement against the Imperium just using like
fucking sniper drones
lmao
they lierally would not even see you strike most of the time
Less actually lol
just pump out suicide drones
wait no it is 10
Ngl tau would 100% do that
but uhhh
too close to real life
the plasma cannons are the weird experimental things
To be honest drones are kinda the worst thing narratively.
Not because it doesn't make sense.
But because if you followed logic. They would basically zerg rush with drones
Yeah they would
Just send a wave of suicide drones
but then people would hate the tau even more
go go drone warfare
because you legit can just murder most guard regiments with the shit Tau uses
ok but eldar could just fry the drones with their special grenade thing
but its too "unfair"
Yeah but im talking about the Imperium
eldar use magic lol
I like the T'au mostly because they act sane in a galaxy that's constantly on coke.
But at the same time
The drones thing is kinda of an exception
we need tension for the plot
okay
no drone hordes
Because in universe it's too unreasonable not to spam
Yeah pretty much this
i feel like it would take a shit ton of drones to kill the normal amount of guardsmen in a battalion
relaistic tau vs imperium is like
deathwatch team of 5 lands
So when a T'au doesn't use them, it's basically just
the Tau not mass manufacturing
they instantly get killed by 10 sniper drones
Missile drones
"They're fucking throwing"
Yeah its again just avoiding IRL
same with how the Imperium doesnt use suicide bombers
even tho it 100% would
and did
tau are limited by their tiny empire so at least that's justified
Yeah lmao
nah its not
they are tiny yet make super advanced shit
Remember how the Flash supposedly can think in an attosecond yet can't save everyone.
It's kinda like that
size doesnt compare to tech
Writing themselves into a corner type shit
they got like, literal metal gears and shit
add the fucking Remora to bighammer lol
they don't have the planets to shit out millions of drones is what i mean
I mean they kinda do
they got endless drones
they use them everywhere
its why its nerfed
The remora is so batshit insane
I think that's what most T'au people like
Because all the Mechas are
Really fucking cool
its same as how like- hold on
All these marines here would be dead
but the scarabs straight up ignore them
minus that 1 marine
and a burst cannon
lmao
still my fav official animated scene
Same
Send that one SM2 clip where they swarmed by mini tyranids
GET SCARABED BITCH
Funnily enough in canon it like
And that's basically what should happen
literally goes horribly
it made me do a battle entry for my necron dynasty
all those marines
where like
200 marines land on one of their territories
"THEY JUMPING ME. THEY JUMPING ME!"
and the overlord just unleashes a fucking tornado of scarabs on them
and they just all die
mmmmmmmmmm

bugge
Also
necrons can technically make infinite canoptek constructs
but dont because thats OP
necrons are like the one faction that are comedically nerfed by space marine plot
it's not even funny
the Imperium only survived because Imotekh went hater mode lol
why does the deathmark struggle with the normal humans
lol
in the animation
its a fucking deathmark
Plot.
Space Marines if the factions decided to mass produce their swarm units:
necrons are insanely strong
REAL.
trazyn casually changing the entire cadia plot just by trolling his way around the place
God it reminds me of like
another story I wrote with my chapter
where one of them goes to execute a warrior ala the game
and then during it he gets jumped by like
20 fucking gaunts
and gets ripped apart

Guardsman going up against an average Tyranid swarm
Because its cute
okay true
Did anyone else see the Tabletop Tactics vid about what model should be removed from each faction?
rippers are very cute
Gun.
No
i love how nids should genuinely be able to counter space marines but GW has to give them video game weakpoints like tyrants and queens so the marines can do their thing and actually win
tyrants don't work like that in lore
tbf
The way Sm2 is done rather lol
that was so fucking stupid
I cringed so hard
I don't even like nids 💀
In it two of the guys were like "Remove Termigaunts, because they shouldn't have guns" and Katie (A Tyranid player) was so betrayed
Those carnifexes should have just immedietly fucking mauled everyone to death present
not fall over dead
????????????
not the gaunts
the little guys
Honestly in my humble opinion.
The rippers shouldn't have had the biological weapons.
Nah they should have just a glock-19 for no reason
smh
The Guardsmen just get shot by a bunch of crustaceans with glocks
meanwhile the living artillery cannon is ok

Termagaunts having guns is fine, i just wish they looked more weird
Yea their arguement was that it's fine for the bigger Nids to have guns, but the little guys should be melee only like the Hormigaunts
Lmao no
what a dumbass
Gaunts are the lil hype guys to the bigger nids
that is so stupid
Katie was horrified by their suggestion
probably just a result of barely anybody voting for nids to be removed
That literally against their designs tho
and the ones voting being the morons
Oh no it wasn't a vote, it was just their personal opinions
oh
The few women that play Warhammer are often Nid players
I still have zero idea why
I guess because bugs are cool
Which tbf
They are
We can relate to them because we also have an unending hunger that drives us to consume all life
of the like 6 women I know irl who play 40k 3 are nid players lol
1 of them plays Eldar(all 3 flavors), 1 of them plays marines and 1 of them plays guard lol
So this statistic is clearly correct based on my incredibly limited sample size
...
So diets while pregnant got it.
Seriously I have seen some pregnant woman diets. Wtf is wrong with hormones in general that suddenly makes you hungry for a Jam and Ketchup sandwich

Me when I get pregnant and start getting the urge to eat dirt
I think that actually happened low-key
the infant requires silica to grow
Yep, it's a real thing that can happen
And the funniest part is that after it's all done. You just lose all of the new cravings you got
Just so you’re aware, this message, is the first one I’ve read in this channel, ever.
Welcome to lore chat
welcome to lore chat
It's par the course
I just came here to ask about what assail shards are and then I see THAT
im so happy the edgy turkish guy is gone
assail shards are the psykers crystalized psychic energy
Tldr its crystalized warp energy and the psykers control it
with their brains
as they chuck it out
The way they talk to it made me think it’s at least partially automatic
they are to an extent
Crystallized psychic energy. That's
That's pretty much it. They cast fucking crystals at you
God assail shards are so cool
The psykers charge an object with "their will"
and the assail shards just
go do their thing
technically assail psykers could do it with like
a fucking pebble lol
"STAB THEIR EYE OUT RAA-"
Literally what i fantasize whenever I use them since they got added to the game, yondu my goat 🙏 🐐
I think they're based off of Spiteshards from Rogue Trader, they're basically manifestations of their emotions condensed into razor sharp crystals. One of the voices refers to them as "Shards of my hate"
don't let all these psyker words distract you from the fact that eisenhorn could make you reveal your most embarrassing dreams
Mortis trials, Scrier’s gaze with the thing that makes you immune to exploding, and the indulgence that gives you shard reload on kill
endless carnage
My most embarrassing dreams would make the weak fall to chaos
Also basically how Psyker powers work in general.
Is that usually low to middle tier Psykers generally pick a path and use spells, which are more like guides on how to use your Psyker energy the most efficiently.
The higher experience and power you have. The more absolute bullshit you can do.
possibly the only weak psyker main character in the entirety of 40k
I’m told psykers in-game are pretty much the higher level of psykers that don’t reach godlike territory
Was also told psykers do have an inherent genetic limit
the gameplay renders the rejects far more powerful than they'd be in lore
They're big, but there's bigger
The psykers ingame are like
Oddly scaled
they're very stable lol
is the big thing
but their powers are far weaker
I’m trying to get my hands on the books but I’m as broke as the underhive right now
there are many means my friend
they're like likely around wyrdvane or higher
If it’s not in my hands I’m not going to be able to focus at length
but things like Smite and headburst are
very underpowered compared to lore
where its just
death
Yup. Although, unless you're Emperor tier, the more powerful you are. The more daemons come to match your fre-
I mean eat your soul
for the other end of it
he doesn't want internet books dilara
😔
damn
why dont you motherfuckers read EBOOKS

Good question
I have no idea where a good starting point is
I was told of a book that’s somewhat an anthology of smaller stories that gets you introduced to a couple factions
SILENCE BLACK LIBRARY FAN
A PERSON WHO HAS WATCHED ONLY MAJOR KILL IS TALKING

i have resigned myself to audio
Because paper is tastier than electronics
Like I said if it’s not in my hands I won’t be able to focus on it for 100+ pages like I like to
Oop
nah just sail the high seas like a rogue trader
we have sketchy salesmen in lore chat now this is so peak
Only get malware every once in a whi-
this really is the back alley of the server
Oh right I forgot GW doesn’t deserve my money
Thanks for nuking fan projects assholes!
Yar har fiddle tee dee, being a pirate is alright with me, do what you want cuz a pirate is free, you are a pirate!
Jokes aside. You can start with whatever faction you're interested in. Eisenhower and Gaunts Ghost are generally good picks.
Just don't start with the Horus Heresy series.
Those are my recommendations
Y'know unless if you like reading like 40+ books
Or was it 60+ I genuinely forgor
holy fucking shit eisenhower is in 40k now
I like the tau
I’m not deluded into thinking they’re the good guys though, I’m well aware of the bullshit
Fuck my memory
I think if I were to play the tabletop I’d be a guard player
You're already more knowledgeable than 70% of the fanbase
Congratulations
🎉
you are in for a good time
best faction
Basically everyone is bad, just choose your kind of bad guys and roll with it.
“Which flavor of Nazis do you prefer”
How can they not be the good guys? They literally work towards "The Greater Good"!
Does gaunts ghosts get better? I started on one of its onimbus 400+page brick and dropped it halfway coz it got a little predictable
Imperium Fans in a nutshell btw
no
KIIIIINDA, the books are good but im one of the few people that arent a fan of them due to exactly wha tyou just mentioned
Oh yeah that reminds me
Tau’Va is fascinating and I hope they matter more later
I know it probably won’t
it might
(Titanfall best PvP shooter ever)
Skip book 2, go straight to book 3. Book 2 is short stories that just give us insight into a number of the named Ghosts. Didn't care for book 2, much.
I see... maybe it's because of its age, it feels kinda 40k-tropey to me because I was simmering in the memes before picking it up
believe it or not but guard actually have more than gaunt and cain novels
I’m gonna have to rip some 40k tank models for my printer
Yea First and Only came out in 1999
now that i can help with for free if you desire
Gaunts Ghosts is 26 years old
wow that 20+ years
Yes please
Do note I have a resin printer, if that’s a problem
You're probably younger than it
that's the opposite of a problem
lol no TT
Man I gotta go paint shopping
I used to paint models at school for my D&D club but I don’t own much of my own equipment
I started this hobby in 7e
Also take this for the journey ahead @cyan merlin
I do straight-up have
“Ultramarine blue” though
Pfffhahahaha
🫡
I joke as most imperial fans arent this bad
but you will see some types
lol
(most will have a space marine pfp)
Good to know
i am that bad
I like to believe that
40% of imperial fans at least know that Nazis are bad
...
I hope

Its more
unfortunately
the loudest are the uh
Oh yeah the other reason I wanna know more about the lore is because I like doing fanfiction things
I have a space marine chapter idea and I wanna keep it as more accurate as possible

I've been reading Warhammer since 2008, but didn't actually start collecting until 9th
i trust all black templar players
If you want condensed stuff
neat
lexicanum is your friend
You should trust blood ravens
Lexicanum is so good
A Chapter is a self-contained Space Marine army usually made up of a thousand or so Space Marines, as well as a large number of administrative and functionary personnel.
The Adeptus Astartes is divided into roughly a thousand Chapters. Each constituent Chapter is autonomous and constitutes a complete army, with its own leadership, support and a...
The Adeptus Astartes (commonly known as Space Marines, and colloquially as Angels of Death) are one of the most elite and feared fighting forces in the Imperium of Man. The primary unit of organisation in the 41st millennium is the Chapter, a self-contained army fully equipped with its own transport, non-combatant support staff, etc. There are a...
this is THE MOST condensed lore you are gonna get
i have never met a blood raven player
The library in my town used to have a bunch of 40k books for some reason
Main issue is that the idea I had is uh, highly unorthodox
Tell us
the council will decide your fate
space marines with multilas
Best we can do is Space Marines, with mullets.
Salamander successor chapter
due to both the sheer number of salamander successor chapters and their lowly-populated homeworld they were forced to deal with excessive material shortages and had to get really really good at scavenging for armor and weapons off the battlefield
They also use a shitton of lasguns because they need to conserve ammo as much as possible
Not xenos stuff, I know that’s heresy
No there’s more I’m just being conserved
They also tend to have a bunch of imperial guardsmen from their homeworld to fill in the gaps in their firepower
I mean even xenos stuff would be fine when it comes to space marines. The marines in the deathwatch sometimes use necron weapons lol
And since they’re salamander successors they take keeping their guard buddies alive quite seriously
Yeah so using armed men is against Chapter rules generally, it counts as army-building in the eye of Imperial branches, BUT you can keep them as like serfs under quotations
the more i learn about trench crusade the more it just becomes "insanely evil looking faction with all kinds of crimes against nature and humanity, why yes we are the followers of Christ why do you ask?"
BUT id say look up the Mentors
they actually have serfs that do some field duty stuff
like piloting vehicles or doing recon/logistics help with the marines they get attached to
they could officially call them a PDF on whatever planet they're based
I think one of the cool things in the Alpha Legion that aren't Alpharius related is their usage of mortal operators.
At least back in 30k
the space wolves have serfs that are armed iirc
Essentially they actually do treat them well but it's more out of pragmatic decisions
they act as a guard force for their fortress monastery
Because you don't want an operator giving out secrets cause they got fucked over
Again I’m lacking a lot of details
Somewhat because I have a headache and can’t recall everything but also because this is my first time presenting it to anyone that actually knows anything about 40k lore and I’m shy about it
I always found that to be pretty neat
Don't worry about it. Honestly, part of the fun of home brewing is to go outside the norms.
space marines armed with lasguns would be very funny to see
I think somebody made a cat maid SM chapter. The art is legit good
other chapters would laugh at them lol
I remember that being in a book
bolters arent like hyper rare
I forgot what it's name is
Something important to note is that in the 42nd millennium they said “Fuck you” and turned traitor… But they haven’t been tainted by chaos
They’re still loyal to the emperor but they want nothing to do with the imperium
Largely because they’re disgusted by the quality of life of the average imperial citizen
Yeah that would probably be a problem
Renegades. Neat

a lot of people dont realize that when you break the rules of the imperium enough then you should just go ahead and do renegades
Makes sense that they would use Lasguns given the fact that most Renegades turn to Chaos partially due to supply issue.
Actually they somewhat specialize in fighting against chaos because they love recovering tainted wargear
that might be a problem since chaos wargear can be tainted or even cursed
especially chaos space marine stuff
If GW can find a way to handwave their own rules so can I
Would be an interesting conflict.
The danger of being corrupted
And forgetting their original goals
But they are also desperate enough to steal chaos stuff
like a lot of chaos rhinos and raiders are straight up controlled by demons
Since it's a dice roll on whether it's just a rusted Bolter
...or a weapon that is screaming with the souls of the damned waiting to use their host as a meat puppet
It's just like gambling!

In which case they’ll recycle it for raw material rather than trying to recover it
Their battle barges have weapon forges for repurposing raw metals
Yeah unfortunately due to being
Chaotic. That's uh
Hard
Considering said Daemon possessed things are usually
Alive
Like they're literally metal creatures
Wanting to murder
And screaming because they've been forced into a fucking tank instead of a proper host
The "My guys are non-chaos renegades because they dislike the Imperium" is pretty common first custom chapter. But if you like it then go for it.
Just because an idea is often used doesn't mean it's bad
Yeah ikyk
This is more a general reminder to anybody else reading.
And also to myself because I forget occasionally

Yeah that’s why I didn’t want that to be their only defining feature
They do things with their weapons and tanks that some might call tech-heresy
And they do have a lot of techmarines
A friend of mine even drew a techmarine terminator
Tech Heresy is pretty indefinite.
It ranges from literally upgrading and making new shit.
To... Taping on a flashlight to your Bolter because you want some light
The Mechanicus isn't exactly consistent with it's own ruleset
Just ask Cawl
you could also have them fighting loyalist chapters if you really want the whole scavenging thing
that's what night haunters do
Pretty much every 40k lore short I’ve seen was Cawl reasoning why he hasn’t committed tech heresy
also if you want good inspiration for renegades try reading soul drinkers
i love them so much
Nah Cawl definitely knows he is.
He's just trying to get the Mechanicus leadership off of his back.
Tbf it's easy because they're too busy arguing with each other
They try not to, they don’t like the imperium but they also don’t want to hinder it
As of now it is the one thing keeping humanity alive

Other than the necrons they decided to keep humans as pets
Doesn't mean that accidental encounters won't happen though.
Since Loyalists hate traitors for
Obvious
Reasons
Hell you could have Loyalists bring the fight to them
Oh, yeah, not saying it doesn’t happen, just that they try to avoid it
They only fight loyalists in self-defense
Even then they ignore little people like guardsmen that aren’t a huge threat
Would you say Arbitrators are much stronger than standard guardsmen? I know they have better gear but would it take multiple guardsmen to win?
Depends on the regiment probably
I thought that too, like Catachans are absurd
Wish GW would give us something other than Cadians
Not that much stronger.
In an 1v1, the Arbitrator has the advantage but it's not like an SM. A guardsman could still kill em with some lasgun shots
I love steel legion, but I don’t think they have any real advantages over Arbitrators
Fair, fair.
you're already a proper guard player
I’ve been going back and forth between rogue trader and darktide, playing my arbites-boy and blasting demons with a shotguns got me loving the faction
you can't go soft man. renegades in 40k get hounded by the imperium even harder than chaos
if they won't attack space marines then space marines will come to get them
without the help of chaos then renegades are usually short lived with no long term survival. happened to soul drinkers
tbh
We got renegades that lasted longer like Ashen Claws
you just need the right excuse for it lol
yeah and they got away by raiding literally everyone in sight
including loyalists
Not really, they target non-imperium targets a lot too
the book goes into it
anyway I got a loyalist Chapter that mostly gets away with stuff due to just having stewardship over a sector on the edges of Segmentum Obscurus
so you just need a good narrative reasoning
but your Chapter needs to be loyal to the Imperium somewhat for them to survive essentially
you also HAVE to give them some bad/evil qualities
this all depends on if the imperium considers the chapter to be traitor
tbh they have considered more loyal chapters traitors sometimes
so it checks out lol
Yeah pretty much
They're very cool though
My renegades believe they're Blood Angels who don't suffer from the Black Rage because they were forgiven by Sanguinius. It caused them to go off the deep end with their pride, believing they could do no wrong. They have now like almost completely fell to Slaanesh but refuse to acknowledge it.
for example my Chapter the Aurum Sons got some good ideals but uhhh
the problem is they are blood angels
and they wanna drink blood
See that’s the other thing, I’ve no idea what’s already been done
so they send their serfs out to essentially enslave "bad people" or what they consider to be bad en-masse
keep them in dungeons under their monastery
and drink/feed on them lol
I even googled about traitor legions that weren’t tainted by chaos and I didn’t see ANYTHING about renegades
Renegades barely get lore due to low market value
in time i feel like it still catches up with you. the NL trilogy follows the guys who have been doing pillaging for 10k years and were reduced to a handful of marines with shit gear
people always wanna jerk off to loyalists more
but thos eare night lords
they also are dumbasses

that is true
gottem
basically yeah renegadism is hard work, id say just make a loyalist chapter but make the ideas you got somehow work
theres a lot of ways for it
Behold, the 500th loyalist chapter!
They’re the ultramarines but WORSE and also PURPLE and they have slightly more librarians!
seriously though read soul drinkers i love them
SOUL DRINKERS
uhhhhhhhh
Spoiler they don't have the Black Rage because they aren't Blood Angels, they don't know this though and doesn't stop them guzzling down the red stuff.
Yeah soul drinkers
fuck you
okay thats really good lol
stop toying with me
Yeah you can make "good guy" marines but it has a lot of pitfalls, you can avoid it still by giving them some evil/bad guy aspects while keeping true to their ideals somewhat.
A lot of canon chapters are pure mary sue material lol
soul drinkers straight up hated the imperium but still thought the emperor was the best chad
The way I wanted my guys to survive was by having a massive fleet with everything they could carry from their homeworld
Whenever the imperium bears down on them the fleet scatters and regroups elsewhere
Naturally that also means the entire fleet’s strength is enough to bring an entire planet to its knees in a matter of hours… If they had the imperium’s supplies, and they were all military personnel, which they don’t, and they aren’t
yeah so fleet-based Chapter
man dont give them a bigger fleet than black templars
also yeah you should keep the fleet medium sized, evne 2 space marine bargers can flatten most important essentialls on a planet
read em up a bit and settle on a size from there
it should be at least below 20
i'm just going by the idea that they're meant to be low on supplies
It’s not just the marine’s fleet, it’s also their homeworld, and their guardsmen, and a few rogue traders they paid off
they wont have many ships at all if they're really doing bad
or they'd have a bunch of converted civilian and navy ships
"a few" rogue traders would be a lot, even a single one
they are extremely influential people, it would get accused as an attempt at empire building
^^^^
a ship is as good as its captain
Would it? I was under the impression they were basically mercenaries
They are privateers
rogue traders are the ones who buy the mercenaries
a rogue trader is basically really lucky or extremely rich arrogant imperials who are just spanish colonizers/conquistadors
See this is why I wanted to learn about the lore
Because I knew a lot of my idea would be a lot of bullshit
rogue traders are narratively like inquisitors if they were solely focused on profit
they amass big followings
or you could have minor ones but why bother at that point
They just need ships they don’t have to be powerhouses
I think you should go wih something along these lines
You already got a massive advantage by making them Salamander successors, they could maybe be seen by an influential random-name Salamander techmarine or Chapter officials as their parent-chapter following some engagement that devastated them/be assisted in and have the blessing on the way they operate by having some engineering knowledge down to them to explain how thye keep supplies up while also having their fleet escorted by smaller re-purposed navy/civillian vessels.
The scavenging aspect comes when them come across abandoned void-depots, outposts or simply assisting the Imperium in battles in return for rights of salvage and supplies or battlemateiral.
Sometimes even my own genius scares me
They do get super excited about space hulks
Get right on that shit
the way the NL trilogy does it is that actual space marine ships are treated like rare relics while they claim a bunch of civilian ships for their needs
Yea, basically they realised they didn't suffer from the Black Rage and split into two factions, one side that thought they were being punished and those who thought they were being forgiven. Their Chapter Master recalled them all to their Homeworld to try and settle the divide and figure out what was going on, then a Warp storm isolated the planet from the wider Imperium, the Chapter Master was assassinated and the two sides ended up in a civil war which ravaged their world. The ones who thought they were being punished lost and fled the planet through the Warp Storms and managed to reconnect with the Imperium, becoming The Forsaken a Penitent Crusading Chapter. By the time the Warp Storms abated the planet was empty, the Forgiven had vanished, they'd already moved on and were trying to establish their own domain. (The Original chapter also used to be called The Forbearers)
READ SOUL DRINKERS
I willlll
Just need to do some piracy
I don’t know where to find books
I pirated all my D&D books off a github thing I dunno where to find anything else
i need to find those images i posted years ago from the book
A narrative beat I did want to have is that the imperium doesn’t know they’re renegades for a long while
A lot of asking “What the fuck are they doing?” Before the realization dawns and the news spreads
Oh
