Because gyrojet was more known around the time that 40k was created.

Caseless ammo were also the hot thing in development back then. Especially for futuristic looking stuff like the G11 and the fictional M41A from Alien.

and again if it was a direct inspiration then why does the 80's bolter look nothing like the gyrojet?

why would they ONLY take the idea of a rocket propelled cartridge and nothing else
