Its very much plot. We had almost no new Nid units at all for years but now we get a ton of psychic ones with 10th edition because We Need New Stuff. Nids are extremely reactive and just made stuff because "oh we consumed space marines we want a big armored dude of our own" or "We nommed some Eldar we want a psyker unit"

Theres nothing to argue, its just miniature stuff, the explanations dont make much sense aside from the hivemind deeming its own army for a hivefleet "good enough" which itself is kinda flimsy.

They already had a lot of this stuff, there way nids work in universe is perfectly consistent with how we've seen them develop. Stuff like the Norn Emissaries is directly because the Hive Mind is becoming more aware of how single leaders, and groups despite being individually weak, are a threat to them and worth investing in dealing with.

Largely no they haven't, they tend to adapt by making a whole different form to deal with or or adapting the approach rather than changing the core creature much. And its a slow process for a lot of that. A common theme in nid books is going into how they've changed tactics overtime, and how the smaller forms seem to not adapt much if ever, but with their ships they're more capable of modifiying them to counter tactics.

They talk about a lot how the synapse for example seems to be a big stopgap that the nids can't adapt every smaller form to, or else it would have by now for example. But with ships its easier.

Largely yes they have, what kind of logic is that. Half the narrative stuff they have shows them as adapting through consuming the enemies they face and defeat through invasions, the speed of the process is also just another case of "I dunno it depends" since sometimes its done instantly while another time its done through a ton of digestive process and whatever else once an invasion is complete. And the "common theme" is Nid books is about as inconsistent considering they are always treated as the monster of the week as the imperial character goes "OH NO THEY ARE GONNA ADAPT IF WE ARENT FACE ENOUGH".

Nids change tactics/other shit on a whip or not depending on what the plot wants at the time.
