I got a couple of details wrong.

It wasn't the Enforcers that tortured the poor bastard

It was the Ecchelisary

Specifically they pulled his teeth out because he sold counterfeit indulgences

Indulgences are basically a way to lessen punishments btw

Specifically, in the Catholic church, they were given to lessen how much a sin weighs on you

But given the fact that in the Imperium. The only way to forgiveness is to do "work" for the Emperor

He was probably selling ways to get a lighter punishment

And so as a result

...

He got all of his teeth removed and then was slowly killed

According to the detective, it was actually a lenient punishment

I also had the idea of like

A Tau and Human secret couple

Secret because

Tau

But basically they're living their lives when suddenly the Imperium attacks

Basically the idea is that the Imperium is winning

But that's in the background

Essentially it's the human and Tau couple dealing with the news

And the Human basically snaps and asks the Tau if they want to be shot

Because they're worried that they will torture the Tau to death

(Because that's what they do lmao)

And basically in their panicked mind. They want to kill their lover to save them the inevitable suffering.

The Tau tries to maintain hope and comfort their lover. Believing that the Tau will win but the human basically further breaks down

Believing that it's the Emperor's divine punishment yadayadayada

And eventually starts trying to kill their lover as a mercy killing basically

And basically I'm thinking that the entire story is this poor Tau trying to hide from their now insane partner

While a war is basically going on the background

With the human basically doing a mixture if

Unhinged religious ramblings

Proclamations of stuff like "I'm doing this for your own good" and "This will be quick"

Along with two endings.

One where the Tau actually ends up winning the war. So the human gets sent to an insane asylum

But the Tau still visits them.

The other where the Imperium wins. And a group of sisters just find the human standing over the corpse of their lover

They think that the human was a rebel. Waiting to fight against Xenos oppression for the Imperium.

So they're used as a propaganda tool. As an example of a brave citizen fighting against the horrible blue aliens. While they're basically dead inside and depressed. Living in their old apartment with nobody with them.

Forced to be alone with their thoughts and the loss of someone they loved.
