Considering how vast 40k universe and its conflicts are... Why Astartes is so few in number? Hard limit of only 1k per chapter seems like an unnecessary rule. Shouldn't they be allowed to pump out as many Space marine as possible? Especially the ultramarines. With their Primarch being in action- producing more gene seed shouldn't be an issue.

@storm jungle sorry for the late ping, but I had thought of an idea related to my one shot you were helping me with, if the items are returned to the Aeldari ranger, I had thought that a squad of skitarii would be sent to retrieve the items from the party, or kill them if they will not relinquish it, although im not sure if thats a very satisfying conclusion if the party dies in that fight, but then again it is 40k. And if the players win that battle, what now? You've now made the local mechanicus authority an enemy, idk what options there really are for them. I dont think it would be possible to break into a forge temple and kill a technoarcheologist and whatever is defending it easily for low level effectively nobodies, even if it is in the lower hive

Also if the party just gives the Ranger the soul stone and nothing else, would the technoarcheologist accept the items with it missing? I imagine thats a large part of the research value of aeldari equipment

All of your characters would find this unusual, as the Adeptus Mechanicus is largely self-reliant, and rarely requests assistance from the wider Imperium, especially not individuals of your standing.

The structure known as Forge Temple Alpha Rho Tertius stands before you as an imposing silhouette, a cross between a gothic church and factory building, with the cybernetically enhanced soldiers of the Skitarii ever watchful posted at various points reaching all the way up to the smokestacks at the structure’s peak. The servo-skull that delivered your missives leads you towards the entrance, the guards' optical devices follow you as you enter, but they do not block your path. As you walk into the structure, the first thing that strikes your senses is the sweltering heat, then the intense smell of ozone, smog, and industrial byproducts. Generally speaking the transfer rate for guardsmen to marines is 1 standard marine should cost 100 guardsmen roughly, for chaos at least.

Ya from what I've read, 80-100 humans can overrun a standard marine in an enclosed ambush

and there are human fighters with proper gear of course killing space marines in one on one but that's them wearing very specialized gear like power armor

or just at the peak of human physique

People aren’t just gonna throw themselves at a marine and even if they do the marine is capable of creating the space and reacting to deal with them

It depends on a lot

But generally speaking that’s the cost as they describe it for bog standard chaos marines.

Which generally are very much trial by fire trained

Sink or swim

Loyalist marines tend to be higher quality on average because they’re given more care

But chaos gifts and other things change the scales as you go up

i think for a single human to have a chance of winning against a marine they need to be like Catachan level physique and have very specialized gear like power weapons

ya, which is why on a ship it's more ideal. No where for either to run for either party and SM tactics are limited. Humans can't escape so it's kill or be killed.

Yeah it’s a mix of physically gifted, luck and hopefully some hubris from the marine

Inquisitors and power armor and stuff evens stuff out a lot

Having a weapon which doesn’t care about the armor is a big help

Just focus on the faction(s) you like and continue with that. Marines unfortunately dominate most of the setting books/lorewise but theres more to it beyond them so to speak, ive been a fan of 40k for like almost two decades for example and as annoying as their presence is to some people (sometimes me included, an astartes guy) you can always find other stuff to occupy your interests beyond Default Space Supersoldier lol
