Gav Thorpe is a really good idea guy and I do appreciate him for that. He's also really good at writing short blurbs of text. Apparently he does a lot of uncredited stuff that's mostly very brief. I will also say he's left a massive and imo generally positive fingerprint on 40k as a whole.

But he just sucks at long form writing.

Nothing scans, there's no good rythym to his prose, and he's just generally kind of mid as a long form prose author.

He's a great producer and designer! But man why do they keep giving this guy novels.

I don't really go into a 40k novel expecting masterful prose, but Gav Thorpe is like chewing cardboard
