As a person with like 7 techpriests OCs with detailed artwork, the only thing you need to do to avoid having a Mary Suepriest is looking at Cawl and avoiding what he is as a character.
Its easy to avoid bieng a Mary Sue when your character has very obvious/semi-visible weaknesses both emotionally or physically along with them just not winning every engagement due to plot armor.

Okay sorry i was in a match but as the resident Mundanaut to give a proper answer instead of short bursts:
Spyrer suits range from literal expensive Batman powersuits to things that can be kinda perma-embedded with the user, like how Haera has literal wires going into her brain for her suit etc, they got a ton of variants (we are slowly seeing some now but the older lore had like 10 or so even if they were kitbashes).
The nobles that use them can range from the leader types you said to literal bloodthirsty sadistic teens who just want to go down to the underhive as a pack and kill homeless people for the memes, the Inquisition would not really target them since Spyrer stuff is still Imperial tech, just more rare and expensive due to being solely made for noble-use.
For a rogue trader getting one is all about knowing the right excuse, trade and person on Necromunda to acquire one, its not like they are rare tech to begin with, just secured and privatized.

the "recoil device" thing is also just very weird as an addition considering how imperial weapon manufacturing works, its too considerate of the user which is kind of dumb too
