I did really like the Mechanicus GSC cult in one of the tau short stories

Honestly though Nids are weird because adaption basically means you're using energy to produce a sort of mutation that works against something that would kill you (like a lil flagella propeller thing for your cells so anti-biotics dont enter the cell itself or a weird bio chemical that lyses viruses).

This sort of stuff is shown in things like anti-microbiological-resistant organisms you find in hospitals, and IIRC these guys are getting more vulnerable to viral diseases because they're so focused on adapting against things like penicillin. I think tyranids should work that way, but this is 40k and 40k writers arent like me that think what would happen if Ork spores worked like Mendellian genetics and one ended up as an albino ork with fucked up eyes.
