Anyway, Mr. @tough haven and other scriers of this chat. If I remember correctly from my last question: If an Inquisition is investigating a sector, solar system, planet or city for signs of "heresy", how would they do it in a covert ops kind of sense??

Inquisitors are extremely open ended

They could be far away orchestrating agents

They could go undercover themselves

They could do splinter cell shit

They could do all these

And the "heretics" are like, "skeeze it they're on to us!", and double down/escalate whatever plan they've been working on. What's the process in dealing with a now active combative situation?

Some Inquisitors travel with a small DnD-esque RPG band of characters

others have literal armies

Inquisitors tend to own like 1-3 ships if you got a BIG pull but they can also call upon rogue traders or other pirates and whatever as a favor

its very Indiana Jones-esque

Certain Inquisitors also work in teams

Also as a super brief overview;

• Inquisitors are all spread across the galaxy. Some work solo, some generally work in conclaves, think of it almost like a gamer clan. They police each other and all work under a Lord Inquisitor who usually has the main admin role. They raise any issues they got within each other's group or build up a case (or just outright shoot the culprit if they think they are guilty but this is not really recommended)

• These conclaves are ALL over the galaxy, and the Inquisitors in them are the ones who recruit and train people they see potential to be first Interrogators then a proper Inquisitor if proper time has passed and they have prove themselves. As usual tradition demands you need the vote of at least 3-4 other Inquisitors in your group to pass this decision, if you are a solo Inq doing this yourself your word wont have as much merit.

• Its from these Conclaves that all forms of other Radical and Puritan Inquisitors who all play games of politics between each other to oust, support or do any other kind of thing that befits their station while "defending" humanity from itself, aliens and chaos

Inquisitors can be anything from their background, clothes, weapons, personality, etc. They are all their own RPG character in some way, you can cook any sort of one up with enough lore knowledge and research.

But you were special, your master invested in you, and either your master and three other inquisitors vouched for you or a lord inquisitor agreed to sponsor you to become a full inquisitor.

Now, hopefully you have access to your masters contacts and often his holdings

Maybe others too

But you’re basically square one now, now begins a long career of building yourself up

This is the best showcase of a "rank" system but even then its still broad.

Anything above Inquisitor Lord, Master Grandmaster is where you mostly stop being a field agent and are probably old as fuck at that point and become a respected elderly desk jockey.

A basic Inquisitor is the most "base" rank and get about as much power as they can through a careful game of politics.

The Inquisitorial Representative is at the top but its just a super temporary political role where you represent the majority of the Inquisition that gives a shit about terran politics back on terra

You get picked, tell/hear cases, come back, it can basically be anyone from a middle aged dude thats respected enough to be a grandpaquisitor, then you are removed from it and returned to whatever tf you were doing before

Like if you’re writing something and you really hate uhhhh… ultramarines for example (I couldn’t think of anything) you can just pick a area where they aren’t common, or if it’s an area where ultramarines are common, you can just have them be busy somewhere else at the moment

Since the galaxy is really vast and isolated you just can kinda not pay attention to stuff you don’t like, unless it’s like huge plot points, since large portions of the galaxy can be really self contained sometimes

The books it’s mostly explained in is Shadowbreaker and also they had a WD supplement I believe

If they die they go to their clone which is implied to then become possessed or the daemon that they exorcised finds them and kills them or whatever

The clone holding their soul while the body which was possessed is separate somehow hides their soul from the daemon. It’s not shown what happens if they die though.

Also the daemon which possessed them is pretty vengeful for them it seems

We only see one example, it seems like they have to trick the daemon into possessing them in the first place because daemons aren’t super keen on trying to possess them since either they get exorcised or they’re trapped in the failed aspirants.
