Yes quite so, he brought his home planet up from nothing (they loved him there) and was great friends with Ferris manis. Conrad also trusted him. His role was likely going to be the diplomatic face of the imperium if things had not gone the way they did.

For 30k we have people like the anchorite who defected during Calth but mostly we don’t see many marines defect once chaos really took root, loyalist traitor and Blackshields existed for all legions
For 40k deathwatch or something exotic like joining a radical inquisitor or rogue trader is pretty much your only option if you’re somehow not too corrupted and trying to rejoin the Imperium
Which is why there’s a fair number of implied Fallen in Deathwatch as well as renegade chapters or remnants of chapters who fell. It’s fairly unlikely that a marine who was a CSM for any length of time wouldn’t be too corrupted to join but it’s not impossible I guess. Blackshields in Deathwatch largely aren’t directly explained for their origins and it’s extremely rare they’d ever tell anyone besides their commander and the chaplain who allowed them in.
For 30k there was just everything, World Eaters and Iron Warriors in particular are singled out as having massive portions of them which remained loyal, although most of the World Eaters died on Istvaan III.
White Scars probably had the most turn traitor of any loyalist, Dark Angels it’s kinda hard to quantify since the situation was a lot more complex and weird.
A lot of the rank and file didn’t really turn and weren’t aware of what was going on.

They're still far more resilient to it than most normal humans ever will be.
There's a lot of examples of loyalists falling but thats ignoring how many chapters are constantly fighting chaos and don't have issues.
And of course, it just depends on the person.
Chapters like the Exorcists are gonna be a lot better at dealing with it than most for example.

Beastmen at their "base" form are born from mutation caused by the chaos corruption/winds sweeping from the polars of the planet.
In old lore they used to also kidnap ||and mass-rape women to create more offsprings|| but this has been changed and has remained unmentioned for obvious reasons. Now they largely stick to collecting strayed mutant baby beastmen from humans that leave their kids in the woods to die and breed with female beastmen who only got 1 literal sentence of lore.
And they do keep memories somewhat its more that at the point of turning into a beastmen you are basically a completely different thing so it mostly doesnt matter to them and they turn more- well bestial lol
