i don't think so actually. just because we only get to see more typical relationships doesn't mean atypical ones don't exist or that they're frowned upon or viewed with disdain. irl, we're only just opening up to the possibility of relationships not being 1 man 1 woman and there's a gigantic jump in the percentage of queer and lgbt identifying people. i would say we don't actually know how big the percentage of queer humans is, so it's too early to say if it would or wouldn't be unusual some 40 thousand years into the future

Without going too much into it, societally speaking the entire reason most people even hate anyone that is into their own gender romantically is because we are pretty much hardwired to be attracted to the opposite sex and make kids or whatever.

This entire thing is even a bigger aspect in the Imperium where everyone goes into the meatgrinder regardless, considering how Imperial "culture" as it is has been brainwashed through propaganda to hate aliens and people they consider freaks or traitors.

All chainaxes on every mini/artwork dont have a trigger, they just activate when the teeth touch a surface.

There's a small engine that keeps the teeth idleing and an accelerometer as well as a pressure sensor on the teeth with an OR switch between them and the motor. Touch something with the teeth and the teeth rev to max. Swing it and the teeth rev to max. The only advantage vs chainswords is the bulk of the head gives more weight and thus momentum behind the swing at the cost of finesse. A regular axe can cleave through a limb, now you can cleave through an entire torso. The switches are such that it will rev at the start of your swing but also hold the throttle open as long as you hold the axe to the enemy.

Krieg would use shovels in a desperate situation, but in a normal armed situation a shovel isn't really a first, or second pick for most people when they have proper logistics.

The reason for the shovels is because bayonets weren't very useful in trench fighting. The long reach which would normally be a benefit in a fight would actually become a detriment in the tight quarters, so things like trench knives and clubs became common. An entrenching tool is something that almost every soldier would have on hand and was fairly practical as a multi use tool/ weapon.
