One thing I really loved about 40k at first was that it seemed very gender integrated to me from the first bits of fluff I read. I read some imperial guard stuff and it had men and women fighting together for their homes.
This was before I knew a lot about it, you know that the 'Imperium is the bad guys' and all that. It seemed like the terror and scale of the setting removed those racial/sex based barriers of our society which makes it something anyone can engage with.
So I think I'm kind of biased because I see 40k as having good gender representation. I think I care less about making male sisters of silence or femstodes or whatever and would probably prefer that show maybe lgbt characters some times? I feel like 40k as a lot of really cool female characters and I don't really mind that there is the big boys club faction in space marines to market to teenage boys. I mean its british IP so romance is probably something they don't really go for that much to being with...

Something people overlook when they make the "So you want women Space Marines but what about men in the Sisters" argument is that the goal isn't to just add women to everything, it's to decentre men as the primary focus group and to instead try to appeal to as many people in general as possible. Which sometimes means different things for different factions.
Because the Hobby used to be designed with the sole intent of attracting men, specifically young men and teens but the market has evolved beyond that and it is now ideal to include and appeal to as many people in the community as possible, so for Custodes decentring men might mean adding women to the story and making it a bit more of a unisex role.
But for the Sisters who were originally designed as nuns in fetish gear (To appeal to the Male gaze and attract men) the solution is different because the problem is different, It's why when they got their range refresh a couple of years ago they removed a lot of the more overtly sexualised fetish designs from the range and replaced them with more toned down designs that were more Gothic stylistic rather than outright fetishistic.
