If you wonder what happend to lost legion studios. Here is a short summery of the event.
Part 1.
In 2020 We were all exited for Exodites, video 1 and video 2, and as we see in trailer 2, Image 1, It was completly fanmade and in no way endorsed by Games-Workshop.
Soon we found out that GW had changed their policy for fan animation, and Lost Legion Studios had a patreon.
To clarify a bit: illegal derivative works like the banned animations remain illegal, that's basic IP law. And GW's IP policies still refer to this fact. It's just the case that as long as you don't try to monetize illegal derivative works GW, like most IP owners, will pretend they don't know about it.
So GW sent them a cute email with two options and one ultimatum.
One: Give them the work you have done and it will belong to them and remove all content from their channels. Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, VK, Vimeo etc.
or
Two: Lawsuit for making money based on their IP with patreon.Worse part was that they had to still marketing it for the public when it was sent over to GW for warhammer+.
Part 2.
Image 4, The Lost Legion Studios crew joined forces with Sunscorged Studios to work on Negative Atmosphere with rigging and motion capture ( a project I am backing on patreon and it is how I got the info about what happend ), and it is on Negative Atmosphere Discord we get a lot of info in late 2021.
Part 3
The original plans for Exodites was to have a two parts movie. They used free licensed music also some they have made aswell, and the focus on Tau and their forces was still the plan. The dialogues from the tau was still going to be in tau terms with a subtitle. It was all changed inhouse by GW, with the same voice casts who has been working on the other projects by M2 such as Iron Warriors, Hammer and Bolter, Pariah Nexus and others so the entire voice cast was changed.
We were going to see more scenes with a unit of gue'vesas who was lead by one with no face helmet (image 5 and 6). This guy was going to be the ambassador for the dialogues to come in the second part of Exodites between Tau and Imperium as the discovery of the Exodites.
The Bandeblade model that was going to be used to shoot down the two Phantom Titans ( Image 7 and 8 ) was completly removed.
Two custom chapters was made for this project, one we saw in the trailer, the other that was going to be involved later, image 9 and 10 ).
The Exodites had more stuff coming for the second part inspired by Blanche original work, dinoriders with eldari tech.
The music was altered by the warhammer studio as well so they could keep all licenses and not paying any royalty to the original creators.
Part 4, what is happening now?
The Lost Legion Studios was working on a new project that is their own ( image 11 and onward) and we all know what that is, and soon they renamed themselves to Project Morningstar. Their official Lost Legion Studios facebook page was changed into Projcet Morningstar, and so did their patreon and soon after that we got the first episode: Morningstar: The hunt in November 2023.
From here on out they will work on their original project and I wish them goodspeed.
