Just don't bother hating.
they are a company that isnt gonna go away anytime soon, they aren't worth your attention.
That is why I always say that if GW becomes a faction for warhammer they will always be Skaven
Just appreciate or dislike the products they produce and leave it at that.
its what ive been doing for 12 years now
for sure but for how long would that last, with a legal contract you can make sure the money stays stable which I would probably take as well over a huge influx for a few months
Yeah like i said as much as he like
played it off as "omg im so happy"
the fact that hes basically entirely radio-silent now you can kinda tell the situation lol
Astartes 2 is going to be a thing? I thought they canned that because he left the company?
there has been no confirmation about leaving
Syama is also currently doing other shit on his patreon
I'm 100% sure there is an NDA that he cannot publicly talk about anything he is doing for GW
^
and who the hell has the energy to do the same shit at home you've just done at work for 8 or so hours hence the lack of personal stuff as well
GW has become a lot better in the last 10 years though
Nowadays you always have to beat that into people's skull more than usual
GW's policies still very much say you cannot produce fan animation too
but like
even when it got announced
with a rocket propelled club at that too
minus them bagging like... 2 animators? Nothing came out of it
People got scared as if they can sue you over doing fanart/videos mfer who has time for that

yeah and it would be a public opinion suicide
^
But having a good relationship with your customer base goes further than people realize. Its sad how little reputation has value now a days.
the TOS update was to cover their ass legally as they clearly were planning on hiring people from the general sphere of fanimation
they just keep buying minis
you cannot boycott a company like GW
they need to do something actually henious
I mean yeah. Its sad to see how many minis my friend has and he hasnt painted in like 3 years. More than £2000 id say. 85% grey plastic still.
Yep lol
you make a space marine figure and name it
Canlion The tyranid Flayer
it's just a space marine Dual Wielding 2 heavy bolters people will buy it
its the same with stuff like Darktide
"omg i hate the premium shop so much!!!"
literally everyone is buying from it
lol
All bought from their store for like a 40% increase compared to 3rd party sellers
I always see ppl on youtube make a vido being like "this mtx store is scummy" 5 weeks later they are kitted out in all the latest cosmetics. Fuck off
LOL
Still have my Imperial version's Aquila
Im in a pissed off mood now lol
@storm jungle Leaked footage of GW commanding their diabolical employees
lmao
The warhammer fanbase deserves Games Workshop
When you've met so many people who lack basic sense and are just loud mouth ignorant shitheads then you start getting mildly spiteful
Warhammer anims are only praised because they look good
You're telling me you're derogative remarks at the fanbase was mildly putting it?
90% of the people who watch and talk about this weeks cool piece of fan art just parrot what they saw in a comment
There's no thought there
Just a twisted sense of brand loyalty because "Durrr thing shiny!"
While also hating the company that gives them that brand(While magically avoiding almost every single one of the many valid reasons you have to hate them)
"They got hired, why is the quality worse??"
Because now there's deadlines, now there's teams and marketing and other bullshit layered on top of the fans making it
in the first place they are just classic company that wants money, there are companies out there that are far more scummy than GW
GW looks like a Saint compared to some of the ******* things I've read other companies do
warhammer fans are in the gutter yes
Still remember that rather hilarious drama you told about this chat once
I don't
if it's making a plan to insult you then yes he does
No
he will remember something very very specific if it means he just gets to spite you
My bad experiences with warhammer fans tend to blur together so I don't think about specifics much
Except the one time I had to tell someone that telling a new person to prime in their closed, unventilated basement was a horrible idea
would i be right in my assumption to assume that you are a gelatinous BLOB that just draws from time to time and drinks anything that he deems delicious
I wish
while also throwing out the occasional insult
man that looks so satisfying
Ulgo think that scottish zealot canon crime is misplaced faith. He think he worshipped emperor but he worshipped Khorne
Turns out that the Drukhari Venom comes with 3 Wyches each that you're supposed to stick on it to look like it's crew, sure would be a shame if I just put them on bases instead and got a free squad of Wyches.
I would assume the Venom is on Autopilot…
3 Wyches not including the Pilot
Ooohhhh nice.
But honestly you don't need to include the pilot either, there's a visor you can put that covers the cockpit and most people paint it solid you can't see the cockpit
Except the Pilot is less usefull for other things because he's got no legs
I would say you need the gunner? (Having looked at the pic for it)
But if you convert to a closed gunner turret, yes.
Not really, you can put the gun on without the gunner, it won't change it's function
Like on the Rhino you can put a Stormbolter on the top hatch and have it unmanned or manned, either way it's still functional in game
Ah, good point.
But I have put the gunner on one of my Venoms, I'm going to leave them off the other two
This is all I can think of with that
Ulgo was bodyguard. Is Ulgo hyper-intely-intere-i... is Ulgo big smart?
Is there a list of notable companies during the HH? Like the ultramarine’s 22nd who called them selves ‘nemesis’
you gotta use lexi for that one
Oh it’s under the horus heresy alphabetical list
Wait- is it chapters of companies in hh?
The Ultramarines, originally known as the War-Born,[50a] were the XIII Legion of the original twenty Space Marine Legions. This loyalist Legion was later re-organized and divided into Chapters according to the Codex Astartes. Their Primarch is Roboute Guilliman, whose leadership, not to mention his authorship of the Codex Astartes, were instrume...
OHHHH
okay so HH Ultramarines split their legion into chapters
And the chapters into companies
A lot of the legions made us of chapters
or other formations
Like IW Grand companies
I think the easiest would be taking all the different lists like theses https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Category:Formations_(Ultramarines) and note those named
Formations of the Ultramarines Legion/Chapter.
There is also this, most would still be active in the HH I'd guess https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Known_Great_Crusade_Chapters_of_the_Ultramarines
By the late Great Crusade, the Ultramarines Legion was organized into 25 Chapters,[1a][1k] each organized into multiple Battalions and Companies, and made up of roughly 10,000 Space Marines.[1j][2]
Like 4th "Auroran"
19th "Evocatii"
20th "Eagles"
21st "Hawks"
Wait Evocatii is something different from a name
okay so chapters was only in the ultra amrines
That makes sense
And gully man made the codex astarties based off his chapter system
I'm trying to find similar lists for other Legions but I'm finding nothing atm
HH has worst logistics then 40k tbh
Lol
I mean, kinda, kinda not
Yup just checked Luna wolves and Raven guard
Chapters are not in the alphabetical list besides ultra marines
And word bearers
Power wash it, my dude
Treat the metal box as something more valuable than your life
They usually base them on actual model, but not sure if it's a rule
Its a miniature from the tabletop same with the landing platforms you see in Darktide among other things, also makes sense for it to be everywhere since 40k is very industrial in most of its level layout
So quick question, but does any of the chaos legions use loyalist SM Gene-seed for recruitment?
Yes
Fabius did it for example
But I think they Apothecary even have a tool specifically to harvest the Geneseed of enemy SM
Like an eviler Narthetium but I don't remember the name
There’s probably more ultramarines in the Black Legion than anything else
Also feeds into the “it doesn’t matter who your daddy is” thing GW tries to emphasize
Chaos marines usually travel in warbands, not legions. Warband members can have literally any geneseed, and even warbands that are from a single legion (like First Claw Night Lords) don't usually work together with other warbands of their legions
The special ingredient is theft
So stop making cringe “omg my guys are a traitor geneseed chapter” homebrew smh
It’s not cool it’s not special
Your homebrew idea is bad and you should feel bad
Thousand Sons are the big exception because funny sand ghost
No
They’re all dumb
Traitor geneseed chapter is dumb stop doing it I hate it just make your dudes unknown
I'm talking about traitors using loyal geneseed/not working with their legion
The progenoid glands of non-Rubric Thousand Sons can be used to make new marines, they actively recruit from psykers they find on raids on the Imperium. Mutation of the geneseed is a potential problem though as with all CSM. You need relatively untainted geneseed to make marines as opposed to just killing the recruit or making a Chaos Spawn, so a good portion of your oldest and most powerful marines geneseed is useless.
Your homebrew: traitor geneseed, old, bland, overdone
My homebrew: Chaos geneseed, new, special and never done before
Idk why people don’t get you can just make any geneseed like sieging or be melee boys or whatever
They don’t need to be IW or WE geneseed to be those things
So what happens if they use Space Wolves or Blood Angels geneseed?
Does their geneseed curse eventually pass onto the space marines?
And have to be primaris
The only ones that have difficulties increasing their geneseed stock for the Chaos side are the TSons and the DG right ?
Yes but we don’t see it much
My homebrew: someone found a bucket of DNA in an old filing cabinet on Terra, they don't even know if it's technically "geneseed" but man did it fuck that teenager up when we injected him full of the stuff
They couldn’t really use SW geneseed tbh
There are traitor SW but their geneseed isn’t stable enough
Theres a reason they just get geneseed from generic chapters
Ah.
Oh it's just old Thunder Warrior stuff and people injected by it become unstable but stronger.
And the other chapters are just thinking that it's a Blood Angels stuff
Ultras and Dark Angels are the gold standard mostly, Iron Hands, Imperial Fists, Scars, sorta RG work fine too
Sallies have some issues and Blood Angels and SW obviously have a lot
I'm just wondering if chaos wulfen or a CSM that undergoes the black rage would be possible.
Yes it would be
Yeah
Chaos wulfen definitely exist
We just don’t see it much
this is just not explored because its not interesting yeah
But yeah there are chaos SW
led by
uh
BADVULF
no
LMAO
ITS VULFBAD
FUCK ME
Good old Vulfbad.
lmao I was going to link you Vulfbad's wiki
B b b but Eternal, what do you mean geneseed doesn't automatically decide what your personality will be like????
I WANT TO DIE
Homebrew idea: Imperial Fist chapter that started from a House Goliath Ganger that did not get the complete upgrades and had to go about without it, and now made a whole Chapter where they use half SM geneseeds and half Goliath gene techs
I do want to make a super cheesy, Dr. Who themed time travelling chaos wulfen named Badulf now
But I don't remember Vulfbad's gang having any Wulfen in it.
his nemesis can be a daemon named Bagoul
Same people who think all Sallies are nice dudes who hug kids and are chill and all Ultras are by the book soldiers
Gabagoul
Ahem
"Cato is like, the most ultramarine, ultramarine"
I HATE AR
Ultramarine Fans: Oh wow so many Successors to choose from!
Chaos Marine Fans: Oh wow so many Chapters to steal geneseed from!
I'm so happy Cato has PTSD now

Badwolf mentioned, Doctor Who hours engaged
Like you can just look at Blood Angels successors, and how vastly different they are at dealing with the exact same issues
its fucking hilarious in their case to be fair
Also one of them thought they were ultramarine sucessors for like
Dante is just "WHY THE FUCK CANT YOU GUYS JUST BE NORMAL"
90% of their existance
Or Ultramarines where you have Mortifactors and Spears of the Emperor as the same geneseed as Genesis and Novamarines
the only reason they found out was by random chance when they ran into the blood angels and their sucessors on Armageddon
Emperor's Spears mentioned, Tea's neurons stimulated, beginning nerd lust
No
Libators?
Yeah them
I'm actually looking for a good Space Wolf mini to turn into a Emperor's Spears druid but they'll all be so much work T-T
I like the rune priest but I'm pretty sure he isn't plastic
Have you considered Ragnar
I was gonna say there’s a few which would be pretty simple conversions I feel like
Tbh
It’s mostly just the fur coats lol
Yep
he wasn't really what I was looking for, I want something that comes with a lot of dangly bits out the box, like talismans and stuff
Just get gud with green stuff
hence I liked the rune priest but yeah
I was wondering earlier about whether to do a tierlist on which SM chapters that deserve a book based on them solely.
Most of the main ones have at least a novel lol
It’s not about deserves
That would be painful
It’s just if an author wants to make a decent book
honestly I think most chapters have at least one good book in them with the right author and right genre
There are so many marine books
There’s a ton of obscure chapters which got a book or got focus and look bad or good based off how well the author did
Lots of shorts and stuff too
I'd make a joke about charcharadons fans wanting books
Red Talons need some love.
I guess, idk if they’d be done well
The carcharodons books were great if you're a Night Lords fan
Their whole thing is they’re bloodthirsty and violent Iron Hands
I want a marines malevolent book
I’d like a MM appearance not done by Kyme
I agree.
His take on them is so boring
I'd honestly like a Rainbow Warriors book, unless they do "11th legion" bait
Kyme moment
I'm lucky in that his Cato books are apparently not actually awful l
“Oh wow it’s a Kyme book with a MM character, I’m sure this will be fun. Annnnd he just teamkilled a bunch of people for no reason then died.”
Rainbow warriors have like 0 lore so would be fun to have a book with them
Deepest and most interesting Kyme writing
So true oomfie
Their main hurdle is you have to call them something other than rainbow warriors
Their lore is literally "we have no idea who these people are"
At the end of the day some chapter names are too dumb
Theres a reason Space Sharks and Wolves don’t tend to use that name lol
I'd like if they took all the secrecy and [redacted] and made them another recon/intelligence based chapter
I just like spy novels tho so ymmv
Charcharadons Astra DN
Did you read assasinorum kingmaker
I will shill it to you
Not yet! It's on my list
Pog
Vyka Fenriaia or whatever
List? Watchlist?
I just got down to reading The Infinite and the Divine and it's been talked about so much that entire chapters are already things I've heard/read before rip
Hamwarmer moment
Nemesis chapter book would be cool
I want more Cain novels where he interacts with major characters for one reason and one reason only
Snark battle between Trazyn and Inquisitor Vail
Add some silver skulls to the book and it would be golden.
Patiently waiting for the official celefax honeymoon novel
Everyone was mean to Greyfax and now GW doesn't want to write her
I don't think she's been in anything (except maybe game book blurbs?) since Our Martyred Lady
Trazyn calling a Silver Skulls SM brother
"People only know who you are because of me"
"Who the hell are you"
I’ve always wanted a Deathwatch killteam short of marines from the war crime chapters
A Red Talon, Flesh Tearer, Mortifactor, Nemesis, Star Phantom, Marine Malevolent
Also, is that Death Watch marine from the Astral Claws still around?
Killteam “Acceptable Casualties”
We don’t know
Probably not
Imagine the meme material of the Inquisition dropping a Deathwatch squad of Marines Malevolent, Flesh Tearers, and Mortifactors on an exodite world
Any Astral Claws in the DW likely got killed or became Blackshields
The one dude whose in the FFG books prior to the Claws turning was very much a loyal Astral Claw
He has the same traits of being an Astartes Supremacist
We really need more straight comedy books and shorts but GW and Black Library are afraid of fun
Imagine, if you will, a Plague Marine trying to infiltrate a loyalist chapter. Never takes off his armor, everyone admires his dedication and refuses to comment on the body odor it causes. You ask him a question, he responds by vomiting through his helmet's grille.
Celestine novel where she tours every planet in a sector wide warzone. On every planet she has an ex girlfriend she must avoid

I don't want a balance, I want cheap gags to the point it becomes annoying
Everyday I am glad more and more GW doesn’t listen to fans
I want terrible books that make me smile
I've read too much that's worth the paper it's printed on
Just have Chat GPT write you some
No, I need the satisfaction of knowing a human being mistakenly believed they were providing something of value to the world
Make the horse heresy canon

There better not be a SM chapter called Hands in it.
Wait
Inquisitor heldane turned to chaos
The horse heresy happened
nevermind apparently I misremembered, he wasn't chaos, just a villain
What is this marine?
A Chapter Ancient
Give me a second and I'll find which variant specifically
He's a Bladeguard Ancient that was availible in the Indomitus boxset
He is unfortunately currently only available from GW in the Honoured of the Chapter box, although you can probably get him individually from resellers
In lore he's basically what he looks like, an elite veteran who has earned the right to carry the banner of his chapter into battle.
Why is he unarmed? Or does he have a sidearm where we cant see?
Sidearm in a back holster
and I believe he can also bonk people with the banner
But his role is mostly to inspire the troops, lead a charge or act as a rallying point
A respectable bonking stick
Also they’re posing, and it’s a game how he is there isn’t necessarily how he would be in combat. Beyond using the banner as a weapon he would probably bring other weapons too
Yea tbh it doesn't really make sense that he doesn't have a sword, like a regular Chapter Ancient can have either a Bolt Rifle or a Power Sword, while the Bladeguard Ancient has neither and must make do with only a pistol
Like why would a Bladeguard Ancient not have a blade
What if the banner was a bunch of swords
no
but what if the banner of swords were attached to swords and swords
whats that ancient ass book the gw paint team made where they made up a shit laod of random space marine chatper paint schemes
It is absolutely the most 40k shit to have a standard bearer strike a cool pose and stand perfectly still in a highly visible position
lmao
there was a book i cant remember what its called
im digging throufh all the 'heres 200 space marien chatpers' books i can find
THIS IS JUST LIKE 50 PAGES OF RANDOM CHAPTERS
WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS
there is NO LORE
this is a bunch of chapters they made
for this book
I'm guessing Red Wolves were SW successors? Was that ever a thing that was possible before the primaris?
It's definitely a test to see if they can make a new space marine chapter that the fans will love
Or you know they just want to give space marines more attention than they already have because they sure as shit needed it
No it's the sweaty nerd equivalent of those inspo guides fashionista divorced moms love
lmaO
My god look on the cranium on that lad
the intern can NOT draw
Did they make these in MS paint
I'm going to tell people "old 40k art was the coolest thing ever made" and send them these
Oh I mean the termie isn't terrible
his bolter is weirdly concave
my god this Motha fucka so bald it can literally shine in drawing
LMAO
Remember, it's canon to neopets lore that the reason the site underwent a massive update that changed a lot of code and features was because the original staff murdered each other and the company experienced a hostile takeover
ist so funny because sometstuff you can tell is importated from like irl drawings
then you get
shogun
They reduced a shotgun down to it's bare essentials, and then left it half-racked for some reason
true artists
how do you think you hold that
hang on we're going back up for a sec
I swear to god
For a half second
I thought this man had a chastity belt
LMAO
"Brother, you do not understand, I must use this device to (ostensibly) keep myself pure in the eyes of our Emperor!"
gw use to name their painting sections in white dwarves colors of war
but THATS ALREADY A THING GW
THERES LUIKE 30 MODEL PAINTING BOOKS NAMED COLOURS OF WAR
bROTHER! I MIGHT AVOID THE HOMO EROTIC IMPULSE
is
is the urban camoflage supposed to look like little buildings
Also what in a tundra is bright red. Take your time
Oh, apparently there are red grasses in a lot of tundras. I forgive it.
I DONT KNOW
omg thats amaizng
I love that Carcharodons are supposed to be this edgy, mysterious, and brutal chapter, but they have an alternate color scheme that looks like someone tried to paint a taxi while drunk
Oh, speaking of, portugeuse image incoming
the destroyers are a loyalist chapter
?
That is spanish, do not correct me
Anyway, I found out the story behind why that bolter is so... unuseable
It's Azrael's bolter
And in Azrael's old mini, it had a notch there, because Azrael carries it under his shoulder
as in, it's a whole, normal bolter, he's just holding it weird
I RESEARCHED TI AND EVERYTHIGN
The artist just copied the piece of the mini exactly
So they didn't even bother to fix the shape of it?
Like they didn't even try to straighten out the mag
Ohh thank goodness that fixes the eyes a bit
But why didn't they display it with the side mag
ive seen the back of teh old mini its a side loader
oh 2
unless the store modded it on tehre
I think we're both right, it does have a side loader, but the art is based off misinterpreting the mini
yea 100%
i'm going to be honest 100% i would go with the side loader
wait we cant cuss anymore?
Fuck
Mother Fucker
only i cant cuss smg
You probably used a combination of words that implied something sexual instead of just cussing
smh
happened to me a few times
Oh
Type appetite
appetite
ok
seems the bot as usual is being a fuck
The bot would cancel that out because it could literally spell tit
damn
it's a redesign completely
honestly, I'm still a fan of the art design
still a bullpup, and it's actually physically possible for the bullets to get from one point to another
yeah i just wish that this didn't exist and it went to a chiropractor for a flattening
What in the unholy omnissiah
yeah
Executing eye bleach protocols
The artist who did that took the model design literally
And not realise it was like that because of modeling issues
If you look at the old azrael model, the gun is clipping into his pauldrons
The gun in this is closer to the Umbra Ferrox Pattern Bolters and not the Godwyn Bolters
Classic design that Umbra pattern
Hot plasma coils right below gas chamber?
I don't even care bullpup design is just an afterthought to place a magazine
I do like the dumb look
Side mag makes it look even dumber imo
Azrael's bolter, hue.
They should've worked out artwork design
They should just never stopped doing side by side weapons
Instead of making up and down combos
Terminators still use combi weapons that are side by side (loyalists use Storm Bolters, but some do carry bolter combi something)
A fatter gun as opposed to weird tall gun
Nope.
He's literally an avatar of the chaos gods, he'd probably one shot that cruiser out of orbit lol
i think it would be easy to target him and his dumb shining dome
just shoot that blinding light done there
Are Primarch Terminator armour, Terminator Armours or Terminator - Like
Did the Mechanicum just have like oh yeah we got massive suits of armour
Its a lot more custom made and special
Dont know what radioactive environments DAoT humans were soing
its either master-crafted or some sort of terminator armor
I know that Pert designed his own custom Terminator Armour
Yeah i figured
Yeeee
only like 1-3 of them are actual termie armor and even then its super-customized
Like the materials for a primarch terminator armour had to like match a massive knight or something
like by the end of the Heresy it doesnt even matter if Horus is wearing armor since he becomes a mini-god lol
Thats a lot of like specific materials
“We could repair the nuclear generators and water pumps….but Ferrus made an order for an armour.”
Me but replace "armor" with "videogames"
NEET
Shit the gun on the thing literally shoots plasma bulltets that uses the target's biomass as a fuel to burn said target into a smoking pile of ash
He's just such a cool dude
that thing would have been very useful against those tyranids
“We could solve imperial wide hunger problems if we use these specific light super tough alloys.”
“Yeah Sorry Sanguinius needs them all for his armours”
To be fair it’s pretty terrible
Yeah its still bad lmao
hey Dilara I'm gonna hold you at gunpoint again to ask a question, Psyker Powers can take any form yes
can take any form yes
you Could electrocute someone or enhance your physical strength yes
Yes
Biomancy
For both
Bio-lightning and Hammerhand/Steel Arm being basic examples
And if you have enough potent power you can augment your body to basically punch with enough force to match someone with a power fist yes
theoretically speaking
Yes
besides the emperor and the primemarchs who was the strongest Psyker the imperium has
Malcador probably
Not counting Primarchs or the Temperor probably one of the Perpetuals like Malcador or one of the Chief Librarians like Mephiston
my psyker oc i just made up is also at emperor level of psychic ability
https://youtu.be/neuJS2_WPYI?si=qbOLYwprZVj-2ew5 because I want to recreate this as a character in 40k
https://playstation.com/en-us/games/street-fighter-6
Ed, the troubled protégé will prove he's no longer a pawn when he enters Fighting Ground, World Tour, and the Battle Hub on February 27.
With psycho power imbued within, Ed pummels enemies with his mastery of boxing.
Owners of the Year 1 Character Pass, Ultimate Pass, Deluxe Edition, or Ult...
Or if you're looking for more obscure characters there's Ax’senaea, who casually absorbed three Keepers of Secrets, then when she tried to absorb a fourth Slaanesh made her a Daemon Prince so that she'd stop.
oh yeah her
Ego so massive it impressed a God
"Please stop eating all my Daemons, please I'll give you powers if you stop"
and the guy who taught her the technique to summon Daemons only did so because he thought it would either kill or possess her and instead she just slurped it down and said "Waiter, more Daemons please"
Literally me
I love listening to Legio Symphica and then getting a fucking Burger King ad right after
The two literal most opposites genres of music
Imagine being an imperial church then hearing ‘whopper whopper’
Grox whopper
i would go up to a space marine and tell him i like to worship chaos
As the others have said, yes.
and psyker powers are literally "whatever the author wants" half the time.
High level psykers can just do basically anything ala Ahriman and so on.
There’s different categories of psykers ie pyromancer biomancer religion technomancy (some how)
Some pryomancer’s spells are completely different from others
From colors to smell to type of fire
Ulgo think bodyguard ogryn is smart Ogryn
A Boxing Psyker is gonna be in the makings yes
Like lil uns are
Biomancer
yep
Psykers never get explored enough so this is a good idea
I can send my build when I get a chance
@storm jungle video basically represents my idea
yeah i was gonna write this guy who is like a bouncer and bodyguard who it's notorious for just beating people with no weapons in just his hands
i could also go as like a personal bodyguard for a rogue trader
Holy shit, they said the line
‘This arakhia is a fell creature. Not just brutal, but swift and cunning.”
Brutal kunnin’ baybee!
Is this Da Big Dakka
Finished it yesterday, hated it lmao
Good for orks but the dark eldar are shown as so incompetent in it that it was legit insulting.
Oh darn
Like
Yeah but thats what happens when a book is written about a faction
That faction wins
not really a spoiler but Ufthak literally gets shot by an ossification pistol (it makes you grow your bones and jut them out of you and explode and its basically an instant death sentence)
And it’s often stupid how they do
And he gets fixed because the painboy hits him with a syringe
and instead it adds to his intelligence and size
lol
I’m kind of used to that kinda shit happening to factions I like lol
Tabletop accurate tbf, Drukhari are currently the worst performing faction in the game.
AAA-
I think my problem is Ufthak is a really big Mary Sue
he basically has zero issues or conflict/obstacles across the two books
The orkish tactic of “fuck it, we ball” wins again
Kinda true
Yeah its because Brooks said hes literally his OC so lol
I just like Orky characters not completely averse to finkin
But yeah he doesn’t have really any conflicts or anything like Ghaz does
Yea was just about to say, pretty sure he's said in interviews that Ufthawk was his Ork OC before he even started writing for BL
Yeah but xenos book so ill take it
But I mean, I suppose Ghaz is unique in that regard
I think the only thing id shit on this book is the chapters with Nizwik the grot, they are so fucking boring lmao
i skipped all of them
So true , I’ll take anything at this point
It’s readable
There are two ways to make an ork character make them killing machines that spout goofy stuff or as terrifying warlords that will literally break the entire world with just a shout
So he's basically just writing canon fanfiction
This yeah
I mean, I think he’s done that
Thats basically my sole criticism with the book
Isn’t that kinda almost of the books though
i mean at least he's honest that he's saying that his OC is the main character
Whatever faction is the main character gets fucking crazy plot armor
Kind of, most books have pre-existing special characters
Ufthak's problem is he faces no opposition
hes never in any danger
It’s only different because other factions have enough special characters to use
Orks don’t have that
He literalyl gets attacked by a pack of Mandrakes alone and his tactic is "hit them with a hammer"
Brutal cunning the closest he fought was the high-ranking mechanicus
Princess saved him in that duel
Badrukk was doing fine against the guy
Without spoiling it, it does in this one too
Princess is basically his Jurgen
He does all the heavy lifting but round thing comes in clutch when needed
Ufthak ends up in like 4-5 scenarios where he should have died but doesn't lmao
the Mandrake attack was legit pushing it but the Ossificator pistol shot annoyed me.
I do agree though, I thought this was gonna be a story of him being brought to the lowest he’s been in the fighting pits of Comorragh and then rising up, a changed Ork
^
IT WAS LITERALLY MARKETED AS THAT
So that’s a little annoying
Yeah the arena segment lasts like 2 chapters hope you like that lmao
But as I said, I’ll take fucking anything for more orks
Ulfthak on his training arc to challenge that demon that he killed on the first book
That is what it's looking like to me to be honest
To a certain extent orks are kinda like this in general to be honest
Weirdly overpowered for no good reason, because cool and/or funny shit
And that’s why I love em
Yeah unfortunately anything that happens in this book gets a pass because "lol ork"
Yeah orks suffer the same problem as Skaven
If you want lore accuracy they’re all over the place, but that’s just warhammer
True
Could make them completely useless
or they literally turn an entire city to ash with a single flick of a weapon
So tabletop accurate
It’s just gambling
yeah writing wise they are not the most flexible when it comes to characteristics
They are just designed in really one way
Fun
See this is why I like Book of Martyrs, because although it's a Sisters book all of the Short stories cover every faction involved pretty fairly, the one with the Tyranids in it is like 95% the Tyranids constantly outsmarting the Sisters and then the short story with the Tau shows them as competent and diplomatic while attempting to be reasonable and only failing because they're trying to reason with an insane zealot.
And I love it
They are hilarious and horrifying at the same time
It’d be different if it was a faction that’s trying to be serious
At least Orks acknowledge that it’s dumb from the get go
Yeah it works at two ways it can be hilarious or it can be serious there's no in between when it comes to orks
On the point of view of orks they are just lads having fun
All by one author though
That’s part of the issue
The point of view of the enemy they are barbaric fools that would turn anyone into nothing more than a splashed paste
Which leads most to underestimate them
Underestimating orks is a fast route to the grave
I’ll admit I like the concept of orks having failings, like self doubt in Ghaz’s case, but I get that orks don’t generally tend to have those, or at least live long enough to discover them
The thing with ghaz iz
He's a Messiah
literally a prophet of the gods
Yeah I get that it’s extraordinary
He disappoints he could be kicked so far into the sky he would be nothing more than a block in the stars
Having expectations placed upon you is not a good way to improve your mental health
Most orks just look for fight
fight
rince repeat until you are the greatest
Yeah it’s not normal for them to have specific long term goals to fail at
I think another thing that annoyed me
"Orks dont feel fear"
cue every time they run away because their boss gets killed
lol
OK that is false
They have incredibly high morale sure but you can break it
That's like one of the ways few imperial characters win against them
And the druk would know that
Target the big ones first
It's three shorts stories each with their own author and the author who wrote the short story of the Sisters vs Tau mostly writes Tau books, so that's why it's equally flattering to both sides.
Yeah its more battlefield shock more than "OH GOD I WANT MY MOMMY"
Yeah, I doubt Mike brooks writes drukari often if at all so I get it
But I like his writing otherwise
Yeah fear is a very very useful weapon and making orks retreat more than anything is one of the few ways people defeat them because on all out war it's going to drain you of your supplies against them
Space marines know no fear either 🗿
Maybe that’s what they mean?
Yeah its more that in this book its said constantly
Like a cognizant fear
That’s near impossible to get out of them cause they just don’t care lol
An ork would look at the warp storm and say that's hilarious
Or know
So I do see why they don't have the normal way of fear
They won't be scared by a random ghost popping up if anything they would punch the ghost and continue on moving
But they can be demoralized
That’s actually a line with the mandrakes
Something along the lines of, any intelligent race would freeze and be killed by shadows coming out of the ground
But an Ork just punches it
Hm, how do you write an ork character with flaws?
With their potential for violence, they'd fight the things they fear harder ig
Ufthak I guess is obsessive and can hold grudges so there might be something there
Basically having them lose or be pushed down the pecking order etc
Orks live in a violent society, you can make a lot from that
But that never once is problematic which is disappointing
Ufthak is just a genius for no reason
Like you said
Yeah literally lmao
He has flaws, but they just don’t matter
Emphasize on their clan quirks?
Also true
Make them an ork
They make it out like it’s the natural progression of becoming a warboss which is odd
Same deal as Human folly
yeah they occupy the same space as skaven, most of the time they are just killing machines with no quirks and are pretty good at doing what they do but if you get one with interesting things to get attached to they're immediately becoming a hit to the fans
I think it might have to do with reincarnation being a straight up thing with Orks
I mean he’s kinda like mekboy a bit
Possibly
I mean there’s plenty of human characters like that
Just “is a savant at thing because why not”
But I always write my characters with flaws, the more debilitating the better, with limits ofc, I’m not always the best at conveying those flaws but eh. I like to write characters like Darkest Dungeon heroes
my ork Characters are bland but the thing with orks is that even if they are quite bland it works
i think the reason why being bland works with orks most of the time is they are just genuinely hilarious
You could do very interesting things with them most definitely
I don’t write orks though mostly cause I don’t write 40K characters yet
It’s kinda omnipresent though, even if you add a little spice or a quirk, they can always fall back on that
yeah Ghaz is basically the only exception to this rule most of the time with how smart he is
yep
I just wish we had more consistent names characters with orks
Besides Ghaz and the guys in Ghaz’s gang
Like we have named characters but little on them besides badrukk
ork names are rather quite simply gutteral and sound like someone getting punched in the gut
But I guess that’s kinda the point
Like Krakka Toof
Is that they’re nameless warlords that come and go
Even still, that’s interesting
Or Bolt Brain
well there's Ulfthak
Yeah now
but there is also Gorgutz
I liked his stuff because I thought he just was the epitome of orkish dumb luck
Like killing a titan by teleporting through its shields
Or even killing that daemon engine
But if it’s gonna keep being this consistent with no downsides or character development it might get boring
he definitely is
The point of dumb luck is that it’s not consistent or expected
yeah you can only really do so much to characterize an ork
I mean yeah but at least have him fall every once and a while so when he gets back up it’s even more Orky
making an ork both interesting and Hilarious is quite a feat
But I admit there’s a bit of a box that’s hard to get out of
Gorgutz did that well in Dawn of war
Either we just gotta accept that he’s a goofy character
True
I gotta look at his character again
The only thing I will say is orkish dumb luck shouldn’t break the existing rules too much, like the ossification gun stunt otherwise it feeds into the “orks are reality benders” schtick that I hate
yeah
That is the unfortunate nature of it
There’s actually a good quote in this on what the psychic gestalt thing is like in the book
Except I can’t find it
Ofc
If he was wearing blue I would believe the dumb luck more but he is using yellow so
does not help
like if you're going to have a dumb luck ork
may as well use the blue
I actually rarely see this trope
yeah that's why he's using a shock rifle
yeah an ork who survives only through dumb luck would be hilarious if executed correctly and using blue because he's a deathskull would make logical sense because well you know blue is lucky
Is the pain boy fixing his bones growing out of control within reason within orkish luck?
Considering he’s not blue
Pain boyz are fucking ridiculous
in considering they are actually quite good at their job
it's not going to be a surprise that they would pull it off
So it’s not that crazy all things considered
Well hold on; lemme read it and make sure first
an ork dok quite literally became a warboss because he kept taking a little bit off the top he says basically taking the pieces of his warboss for himself to make himself grow bigger
Yeah but that’s just orks being essentially mr potato heads with their physiology
yeah that's the point their Physiology
It's so completely different than the rest of the species in the Galaxy that their doctors who work extensively on that Physiology would know how to make it work the best
It's very easy to heal when you can literally just pick up the head of the decapitated ork and attach it to the body as long as it's still fresh
Ok I read it and it seems a bit more reasonable
He got stuck with some sort of sharp implement with a poison, not hit with a beam
And then shortly after gets knocked out with some darts, so I guess orkish physiology it selectively resilient
Found at least one of the quotes
“with an approach to technology which appeared to consist largely of deciding that they were going to achieve the desired result and daring the universe to prove them wrong.”
POV: You're the engineers/architects in Dubai
Electro steroids it was
So it’s not the ossification weapons
LMAO
They have slave labour to help on costs
Sorry I mean immigrant workers who get their visa’s stolen
This is not CA wolf
you can say slaves don't worry
No I’m using an excuse they use

They say they’re just immigrant workers
Except they don’t have their visa’s
Or get paid that much money
Or are allowed to leave
“See, da more we fight, da bigger we get.’ It tapped itself on the chest with one massive finger. ‘Da bigger we get, da smarter we get.’ It tapped itself on the side of the head. ‘An’ da smarter we get, da better we get at fightin’.” Chat, is this true?
Orks do get smarter as they get bigger generally
“You know the worst part of being a Slave? That you don’t get to do what you want or leave”
Lol
They also produce stronger WAAAAAAAGGGGGH fields when they are bigger
“That’s the only part of being a slave!”
I always think of Dubai when people say "Paradise worlds would be great to live in"

Ok so ufthak being smart isn’t just out of nowhere
Holy shit you’re right lol
Literally lol
Only if you’re rich
Ufthak is also decently smart already I’d assume
He just got smarter faster then he got bigger
Otherwise someone’s gotta be working to make it a paradise
No the most successful orks are incredibly smart
Ghaz
Gorgutz
Badrukk
Ghaz was smart enough to krump anyone bigger then him
and many more
And big enough to krump anyone smarter then him
@storm jungle
‘Weren’t dis smart before,’ Ufthak said. ‘I woz gettin’ dere, but I weren’t dis smart. Den dat git stabbed me wiv da grow-juice, an’ when I woke up everyfing was smaller’n wot it woz, an’ me brain woz bigger.’
I guess this is why he’s so smart?
Doesn’t quite make sense but alright
If leviathan gets black library book of the year I’m killing myself
Yeah pretty much
Probably one of the most boring books I read lol
but nah its gonna be End and the Shit
ah yes the mid in the mid
Which part though
People might end up splitting their votes between all three and accidentally let a good book win
Being maimed proves you've survived engagement with the enemy Diver, which is highly suspicious behaviour if you ask me. Report to your Democracy Officer for questioning.
lost the arm on mantes to the 12th rocket devastator that spawned behind me
Rocket devestators headshotting and one shotting you is so funny tbh
Even with the explosive resistance armor
Sure armours still haven't been fixed so they don't work properly
The explosive resistance on the armor works
Yea but the rest of the defensive stats don't work properly I think
Yeah
"Xurzuli herself had only taken on a female form in the last few decades since ascending to the rank of Succubus"
I still don't know what a helldiver is
Elite shock troops of super earth
(They still have like a 18% survival rate lmao)
Not really that elite tbh, you saw the training course, that's all you get before you're thrown into combat
Does this imply
Trans Drukhari
More elite then the SEAF
Is more so my point lol
Tbh wouldn’t be hard for a haemonculi to perform that surgery
Still pretty based
Mhm
Indeed
I asked Mike Brooks on twitter
Oh sweet dilara post
Omega based
Basically saying Eldar dont care about gender roles as we do, which makes sense. Their society is very open and accepting.
sci-fi's most expendable elite drop troops
I imagine the life of a regular SEAF trooper is even cheaper than the ammo they fire
Brooks continues to be the biggest BL Chad
What i like about him is he is very very openly honest with his work
You even said it yourself best because he literally admit it that his character is his oc that he's just doing for fun at this point
Now if only his dialogue didn’t suck
He does write good action scenes though
But jfc I can’t sit through his attempts at having people communicate
I mean it's been canon for a while that some Howling Banshees are "male" but are considered women while they're on the Path
Trans Eldar are old
Those aren’t trans necessarily
^
They’re just wearing the uniform
This bluntly basically clears it up
And yeah what Eternal said
its less "you turn into a woman"
more just you can take woman/male-centric roles as the opposite gender since they dont care
with the succubus bit its more different
But yeah as much as he seems like a nice guy I feel like I’m taking crazy pills whenever I read Mike Brooks praise
He’s not the worst and his Ork stuff is fine
But dear god he can’t write people
As he writes Orks most of the time i just turn off my brain and turn it into dumb entertainment mode
Yeah he’s best at them
OK hot take time. I didn't like the orks in Brutal Kunnin.
I was there for the admech
Yahi probably is the ork guy
He’s also really bad at the “Antagonist is dumb as fuck so my OC can win” thing
Yeah but hey he admits it at least
Honesty is quite rare nowadays so i take it with a bit more nuance
Nate Crowley is the guy for every xenos, as long as you want them treated more seriously
We need another Nate Crowley xenos book
They’ve literally made drukari humans, transitioning someone is probably as easy as breathing
Crowley is great
Yeah his Ghaz book is a good balance of making orks still hilarious but also very horrifying
Him and Rath are two of my favorite newer authors
Da biggest, da smartest, da depressedest
That’s why he’s my favorite
Haemonculi in the past have made Dark Eldar they have have the biology/metabolism of a human as punishment.
Haemonculi basically work on the logic of "can do anything flesh-craft related as logn as the plot allows it"
Also to be clear I’m fine if antagonists or whatever make mistakes but the point is if your OC is only winning because you the author wrote the antagonist to be stupid as fuck for no real reason or a bad one then it doesn’t make them look good
And Nate is my second favorite
Ah yeah the sad reality of having expectations place upon a prophet isn't it
Word Bearers trilogy is imo a great example of both sides being competent and it feels better because of that
No one sucks in that or is dumber than they should be they just get outplayed
Drukari are tabletop accurate in the book
Or are out of their element
Also they just wholly underestimate orks
“They won’t find a way to teleport out of where we locked them even though they did it twice already”
“They did it again”
Also drukari being drukari and doing things out of spite
If you want complete wackiness, read "The Heretic Saint". She parries a punch from a chaos possessed fortress the size of a titan and the villain is defeated because he ||was secretly atheist||
The whole “Oh boy someone underestimates Orks and it beats them” thing is really boring as a trope at this point
It doesn’t even make much sense in universe
Someone accurately estimates the orks, gets eaten anyway
Literally every book with Orks someone goes on about “You shouldn’t underestimate Orks cause it’s bad”
I mean to be honest every faction at one point got the treatment Mike does to orks
Especially if it's a chaos book or a space marine book
Like a succubus letting ufthak out of his cell to fight, after one of them literally had him tell them that if he doesn’t fight he’ll wither and suffer in great deals, and says “hey don’t let that Ork out”
Just to spite that particular archon
And because “it’ll fight good in the arena”
It got out and killed them all
I still want an actual tyranid horror novel. Like, a small group of survivors getting picked off one by one as their ship itself is slowly digested, trying to find an escape shuttle small enough to escape without drawing attention from the swarm.
So true
Stalked by a lictor the whole time
Me too
I’d like an asymmetrical horror game like that
It would be fun if it was the death leaper tho
Continue his already funny games of breaking people's mind
I was looking forward to see psychological torture of an Ork would look, but they were dumb and didn’t do that
Literally The Martyrdom of Sister Ishani
Deldar are really arrogant though
I mean the guy already got a sick design so i thought may as well have them appear some more not just in a one-off story
This isn’t a thing in this book, they all just think “yeah they’re dumb”
And the deldar seem really lazy
And that’s dumb
Arrogance I get but it just feels silly when it happens every time
And it kinda does
And those books suck which is my point, it doesn’t do Orks any favors
It’s bad, unsatisfying and lazy when authors have their OC win because the enemy are just stupid as fuck
The orks just decide “these gitz won’t give us a proper scrap, let’s steal they’re tech and leave”
I like brutal kunnin because the admech were kinda competent
It’s way more satisfying and fun when both sides are competent and capable and the win feels earned and cool
I was rooting for em even though I like orks better
I strongly disagreed, they’re a punchline most of the book
