The unit control is awful, like one of the first units you get has had crossbows and swords, so you think "This is a skirmishing unit, I'm supposed to harras the enemy by shooting them and running away and only fighting close range for short bursts and then running away." but the game doesn't do that. Once a fight starts you can't pull your units back unless they have the retreat ability, which causes them to teleport back to your homebase
