I think autoguns for PDF are as bad as it gets honestly. Autoguns are considered worse due to needing to haul around ammunition as well as the mags for the ammo. Las weapons are preferred because they simplify logistics massively and despite the memes very powerful.
Why they seem bad in tabletop/ lore in some cases against more powerful units are because for example a space marine's armor mostly negates las weapons.

to expand a little lasgun powerpacks can be recharged by leaving them in the sun or if you're willing to risk it keeping it near a campfire.
so if you can rotate out troops to backlines or rotate new powerpacks to the frontline and bring the drained ones to the backline you could in theory have unlimited ammunition for what is your standard issue weapon.
