chaos characters tend to suck because chaos is not about likable, relatable characters. a big part of serving chaos is you're a sucker with a bad tendency to treat people like dirt for one reason or another and think you're important enough to justify it.

if they had any motivations apart from "i hate imperium" and had actual character arcs then they'd suck less

i mean the two biggest 40k chaos characters in popularity are still kahrn and abaddon and both of them bore me to tears writing wise. they're just neat designs.
