Doesn't Atoma Prime have their own Planetary Defense Force? Did it get so bad so quickly they had to recall the Moebian 6th regiment from the frontlines? which also kinda doubled down the situation in Tertium.

the PDFs aren't necessarily on equal as actual guard regiments but I figured they could've at least put up a fight or stave off the Nurgle cult's rebellion before calling in the 6th.

Atoma does have it's PDF indeed

It's the guys in blue you see during some missions (also the squad from the very first trailer), they have a red symbol thingie and the regimental number 21

So until an official name comes it's the Moebian 21st

But also rememeber pdf are militia's with some semblance of a logistics and technically shouldn't be enough to beat up The most veteran regiment in a 600 light years span

Yeah, only the best troopers from a PDF get selected to be part of an official Guard Regiment, which should tell you as much. So it really was that it got so FUBAR the moebian 6th was brought it which only caused more mayhem. And why we're playing as the expendable desperate measures to beat them back.

Ye, also the sixth were already corrupted before getting to atoma, and thanks to item descriptions and ascension riser we know there's a noble family trying to usurp the current leaders of atoma (The Margrave's) , so it may have been all planned from the start

Ye, basically if you see stuff like most zealot/Psyker cosmetics with the gold engravings and stuff, it's usually stated to be a symbol of allegiance to that noble house

Meanwhile more plain, rugged and day by day stuff like the penal penance gear and similar are more used to represent the current rulers (the Margrave's)

Also the vet forest Camo set description mentions that it's from a Moebian regiment that's basically the Margrave's personal guard

I’ve heard some of the characters remark that the best tactic might be to wait for the heretics to wipe each other out. Why are they infighting? Are they like orks competing for power? They seem pretty United against the convicts

I had thought that maybe the properly geared guardsmen (the ones with the green eyepieces) weren’t really down with nurgle, more just using it as a convenient excuse to make moves for themselves
