My advice to get the best of both worlds is getting a cheap hobby drill so that you can fix your sprues on something like a paper clip in a cork
You don't need to clean the sprue damage since its all cleaned up and you can use the leftover holes from the drill to to put some bits of said paper clip inside your miniatures, making the glue bonds stronger
Plus its easier to paint than on the sprue since you can rotate it 360°

Forge world wanted to sell mk iv, ii and v marines so they made mark iv and mark ii marines more prominent in the heresy with the first black book they released
And made mark vi armor less prominent so that the raven guard could just start the heresy having it
In older fluff from white dwarf 129 corvus armor was introduced late into the heresy and became "quite widespread"
