So, I have a question, about a specific contrast paint. I wanted to get some lighter blue contrasts after using leviadon blue, for power swords, plasma coils, psychic weapons, etc, and I got tallasar blue and aethermtic blue. Now, tallasar blue in my opinion is right up there with leviadon, controls smoothly, dries into good colours depending on base, just feels like liquid talent. Aethermatic blue, on the other hand, feels like I am using a watered down shade. I know it's a light contrast, but shape edges hold barely any tint, and it feels like I would need 3 coats for a half way decent colour that isn't splodgy or a faint blue tint off the base. Does anyone have experience with aethermtic blue? Is it really this thin? Any tips?

Out of grey seer, wraithbone and leadbelcher, only leadbelcher seemed worth it. Then again, metallics get contrasts to adhere better imo.

I would say that a lot of the different contrasts have different amounts of concentrations of pigments from what I can tell.

I use Tallasar and agree it's a fantastic blue, but assuming Aethermatic is lighter, lighter colours have less dense pigments from what I've noticed so the coverage sometimes takes multiple coats if that's what you need to add.

Apothecary white BARELY looks like I've done anything even on white primed figures.

My go-to is always to use a contrast layer first to get colour on different areas and then using a second thin layer of actual layer paint to get solid coverage.

So you may want to try Aethermatic and then a similar layer paint HEAVILY thinned.

Because it will grip that contrast very well.

So, Aethermatic => dry => templeguard blue 1:3 (or 4) of contrast medium?

Testing now on an older primed white mini I see that adding just a dash of tallasar to aethermatic vastly improves coverage, even if I don't get the same colour.

It's so different making gradients with shades, because you build up from light to dark, instead of from dark to light with layer paints.

I always do prime white, contrast colour, layer paint, dry brush (for weathering) then shading. But I try and capture a very dirty style. I hate popped, exaggerated highlights.

Ah, I see. I am still using GW's painting guide, so more traditional painting order. Just thought that contrasts might be easier for power swords, but I will have to experiment. I did find that for horns, making a grayscale gradient, hightlighting it with white, then washing over with skeleton horde contrast looks pretty good. Maybe something similar can work for power/force swords.

Also, any opinions on an incubus of the swamp temple concept?

That's the downside of designing armies with few models, is that every model is strong. A squad of units will lose damage capability when it loses wounds, but a model with many wounds and a static stat line doesn't. I want to get back into the gaming scene, but I will consider auto conceding against custodes. It's not fun rolling dice against 2+/3++ blob of characters that slowly moves towards you.
