Wtf weapon do i build them with? Idk the difference between a heavy bolter, melta, and heavy flamer

i assume heavy bolter is generalist, melta is anti armour/vehicle-ish, flamer is horde control anti chaff vibes

The heavy bolter is all about stationnary anti heavy infantry weapon, a good space marine killer, the heavy flamer just straight up anihilates anything that has the stats of a normal human and the melta is the close range anti vehicle weapon that also works well on heavy infantry

Imo id go for heavy meltas because its just a really good weapon in general

Thinking humans under tau rule for standard patrols, fire warriors closer to certain checkpoints, and then a few rare devilfish/stealthsuit teams

Hmm, I wouldn't put Devilfish squads as encounters? If I was the tau, I'd have them as rapid reaction forces. Maybe on the way they encounter lone foot slogging patrols of 10, and remora drones or pirhana skimmers? And nearer major objectives they'd encounter Tetras maybe and then roving devilfish?

put enemies around the place moving on w/e path makes sense for the task they are given

and then the players encounter enemies when and where they find them

Idea being this is far enough behind enemy lines they don't have artillery support, but close enough to the front the enemy are still somewhat on alert

the squad playing paratroops will be doing stealth ops to try and hit key points (unsure if i'm going to make it linear or open)

So bumping into like, a devilfish moving between 2 compounds cause the players stray too close to a road is something that could happen

but if they just fuck off into the forest, they're more likely to come across guevesa or fire warriors

maybe some kroot if i'm feeling particularly bully

My initial idea is similair to what u said

3 points, connecting roads, blue zones are like "influence zones", where the heavier patrols are

outside of those areas only really the roads are patrolled, other than maybe some smaller teams of pathfinders or drone sweeps

central green area is an urban zone, which may have an optional timed objective come up for high risk high reward (HVT coming in for a few days, but the city is the heaviest defended zone)

like a "You NEED to avoid this zone, but...."

2nd idea is a bit more linear, pushing up a valley with steady growing levels of patrol as they deal with key points (such as taking out check points or tidewall stations)

I find that yellow needs a big ratio to make a difference for green because yellows weak to begin with and is already present in green
