I find that if you spray it lightly and from a distance it doesn’t fill in the detail and just provides a light layer for your paints to bond to

So that's the one difficulty for some plants. But I'm learning what plants tend to get pests and those that don't.
In the case of indoor plants you can just use pesticides, since you don't plan to eat them and you won't poison anything else since it's indoors.

I'm gonna go for some lavender and a plant I forget the name of this year. I have one from last year that I hope has survived. It looks a lot like lavender but is MUCH bigger.
It's the plant sitting below the purple lavender on the second photo. It grew so big I had to set it on the floor.
Then in August it bloomed for exactly one month and the bees loved it.
