Been kicking around a scheme for my harlequin kill team. I wanted to base the colors on the Face cards from a deck of playing cards, white and black as the base of the suit, red for any gloves, coats and boots( but I'll switch it up if the model is wearing gloves and a coat), gold for any armor or accent pieces, yellow for any cloth tabards and blue for any lesser accents like gems or the wraps on weapons, thoughts?

Got a question about painting battle sisters, I've never painted them before so I'm not sure, is their armor like space marine armor? Where it wraps around the entire limb with joints in the middle or more like greaves where it covers just the front of the limb, I want to make sure because I'm going to paint the armor and under suit 2 tones of black

Yes, compare them to any cheap clipper like hakko and you'll notice they cant cut at all, they just rip and tear. COmpare them to a single blade and its even worse of a difference

I just use whatever hobby store clippers.

I owned Godhands and yeah they cut really well, but you still have to use a hobby knife for cleanup

And the Godhands straight up break if you use them for anything other that clipping the tiniest join - you'll need a second set if you wanna use clippers for any kinda kitbashing or reposing or wharever

once again you throw down a model with the most amazing skin i have seen

Basecoat with Cadian Flesh.

For mottling, load a makeup brush with brown paint and flick it onto the model to create random speckling. Then clean it back up with Cadian Flesh, leaving subtle freckles and moles.

Paint veins using Flesh Tearers Red thinned with Contrast Medium (not water). Keep the lines very fine and organic. Refine them with the base tone until they sit where you want.

To push the veins under the skin, lightly glaze over them with a slightly lighter flesh tone, or thin your base color about 3:1 and apply a translucent layer. The veins should remain visible but subdued. Add details like nipples at this stage.

Apply a thinned flesh wash (Vallejo) to unify everything.

Once dry, use a gloss varnish (AK) on the skin for a sweaty finish.

For the final effect, switch to enamels. I used Carrion Crimson for subtle red variation and Goons Grime for dirt and desaturation. I think I added some umbral nightshade here too since it felt too red. Since the skin was meant to be glossy, I thinned my Goons Grime with mineral spirits to avoid such a matte, dusty look.

Let the enamels set slightly, then use mineral spirits with a clean brush or Q-tip to remove and shape the effect. This reductive step is what creates the realistic, grimdark finish.

Tryin to find a good replacement for citadel iron warriors paint any good recommendations?

Gonna be doing the entire contents of the saturnine box so i just want a good alternative cuz i find the citadel stuff to go sludgy

you have to shake it a lot like every citadel metal paints

I paint iron warriors but I personally find it way too dark for iron warriors and usually use it as gunmetal

I think you can find a good equivalent with AK paints

I think dark main color usually kills the trim on IWs

I tend to use leadbelcher, makes trims pop out more

Wash with drakhenoff nightshade
Drybrush on runefang
Then do a white for energy areas then coat said areas with aethermatic blue
Finally retributor gold followed with reikland wash

I do a build up to yellow with screamer pink and emperors children then yriel yellow and an imperial fist wash lmao

Then i do the stripes then i bathe the entire model in nuln and ratling grime

stripes tend to go a bit dark green/faded grey tho

I use runefang to edge highlight and stipple for anything shiny

I paint rust/mud dripping manually with watered down vallejo matte earth and then wash it with slight agrax earthshade to merge metal and rust a bit
