Admittedly had to fuck up most of the set to get it right
But I think if I were to do yellow again I'd do it way better
Almost finished
Very nice eyebrows, for some reason it's not common to paint that part even in box art
My wife did those cuz I gave up
I'll let her know
She says she had enough practice doing her own eyebrows lol
Reckon that's true
Nice I got some Mk.IIIs
Hell yeah
I've only got the old MKIIIs but will probably get the new MKIIs once I've gone through the models I have on the backburner right now
Finished that guy
Just finished these black legion terminators
Half the gang is here
Need help, I am using Iron Warriors for the fatigues and I want to try to make it accurate like darktide. Is it the right colors?
Zoomed in
I think that’s pretty bang-on, if you make the pants a little more bluer it’ll be mint
the pants or upper body?
If youre planning on highlighting at all you could do that to blue it up
The grey on the jacket looks perfect, bluer pants like in game will make it contrast nicely I’d think
thank you
No problem brother
I know these breachers are built wrong but they look cool
Nearly done with my last plague marine
Seeg breaker
fat fuck
the widest boi
Progres
What colour did bro used for blood effect ?
Killing for the living
Question!:
What kinda bronze color did you use for the metal?
Currently gonna be painting up a little Typhus Boyo of my own soon
thats balshar gold
from cidatel
Blood for the blood god technical
rare paint i assume
hard to find but you can make it at home really easily
it just requires mixing colors which I know is verboten in this hobby
show me
You mix pr177 anthraquinone red or pr264 pyrrole red rubine with pr101 transparent red iron oxide 1:1, then you mix in gloss gel medium in a 4:1 gel to paint ratio
@sick ledge what color would you recommend for a base layer to paint dark angels? I plan to keep them quite dark, going from green to black.
I've been really loving brown for the chiaroscuro approach recently
like a dark brown
burnt umber has been my go to
Now I just need to figure out what the chiaro scuro technique is 😆
its light to dark contrast
this is chiaroscuro
it starts with a dark base layer and moves into brighter colors
That would be a funny t-shirt, like those how to make meth ones
I should make one
That's what I do when I get a tshirt idea for red bubble, I say I should make one and then I don't
I think a breakdown of like the GW ultramarine paint scheme in non-hobby industry terms would be funny and enough to be confusing
Ні, I don't know how acceptable it is to ask about the rules here, I don't have any more board game channels so I decided to write here.
I’ve got a couple of questions. About half a year ago I bought 4 boxes, but I haven’t touched them since, because I wanted to build my own custom Guard regiment. And now the new Codex is coming out.
I was planning to build according to a modern-style doctrine: a squad of 7 riflemen + a marksman + an RPG pair (basically a regular Infantry Squad, with one special weapon being a long-las, plus a Heavy Weapon Team with a missile launcher).
But in the new edition, as far as I can tell from the book Codex I bought when it first dropped, the standard Infantry Squad was removed. And Heavy Weapon Teams can’t be attached to the other squads anymore.
I noticed that the weapon profile for the grenade launcher is quite similar to the missile launcher – both have frag and krak shots. The only difference is in damage and range (well, the frag shot on the grenade launcher is D3, while for the Heavy Weapon Team it’s D6, but the krak shot is 1 for both). So from a gameplay perspective, they’re almost the same. But both shoot the same type.
Would it be acceptable if I converted one Guardsman with a “tube,” gave him something that looks like an RPG for example, and then played him as a model with a grenade launcher?
HOLY PEAK
Usually always stocked at my local GW
Generally as long as it's made clear to your opponent it should be ok (after all as you said, missile launchers can no longer be taken in regular infantry squads so there's not a ton of other similar weapons for it to be confused with), but keep in mind (iirc) only Krieg squads get sniper rifles.
Still pretty new to painting
The red and whites are mine. I have maybe a third of my eldar army done now 🙂
It's been out of stock for 3 years at mine
It's why I gave up on hobby paints and learned to mix my own
Fair
It's like $12 for a pot on Amazon
Ouch
I can get a 8 oz bottle of a better paint for the same price on Amazon
Fair
Like genuinely paints like golden soflat completely decimate hobby paints in terms of price to performance and quality
You just have to mix your own colors which is actually really easy turns out
My autism loves it too
To be fair, you can also make a better looking blood out of contrast paint
Flesh tearers red and wyldwood 2:1 makes a perfect dried but still fresh looking blood
Looks great and without the gloss finish
If its on something like blades then yes but it was always annoying that if I wanted old, won blood look I didnt have really any 1 paint that could get me there
Its always nice having fresh blood and dried old blood on a model
true
that's the "Night Watch" by Rembrandt
it's interesting that the painting is not entirely the artist's imagination - that's a depiction of an actual city guard that was commissioned by its members
King Crimson made a song about the painting
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwFYy_Th7BA
Robert Fripp guitar & Mellotron, John Wetton bass & vocals, Bill Bruford, drums & percussion, David Cross violin, Mellotron, electric piano. Appears on Starless And Bible Black (1974)
The honorable rogal dorn joins the motor pool
Death guard are all done but I now have 6 different nurglings to paint and I want them all to stand out, gimme some nurgling recipies pls
I love how old and weathered it looks.
Pretty substantial improvement id say
That half-rotted head is gnarly
Looks goofy
Chaos Space Marines :>
BTW if youre in the US buy your paints now, there is near no pigment production here anymore so things will be unobtainium very soon
Like ALL paint?
We dont product the polymers here either
it all comes from... china and europe
Everyone saying "oh you buy too much paint" LOOK WHOS LAUGHING NOW
We allowed for the sales of out industries during covid
and look at us now, we have nothing
Well guess who's stocking up tomorrow because I ain't getting caught without paint
exactly
I have no way of paying the tariffs turns out
there isnt a system in place to pay them
I went always 2 of them and they never had something like this
Thats crazy
JUST TOP COATED THE BODY BUT NOW I GOTTA FINISH THE WEAPONS AND WINGS
Yo gotta paint those too?
With glue that’s unnecessary as much as you can fit on it
Gonna loot me a zoggin’ gundam
Lmfao the dude in the middle in the first image is like:
For real tho
Peak Future Word Bearer
Imma paint them chaos dudes into all of the Trator Legions if I can
Archmagos Prime in progress
Oh shit! It's a Gundam!
Damn those looks gooddd
Behold my Aerial and Destiny Gundams
Love gunpla. I'd show mine off but they're all in storage
Having to find space for 100+ Hg/RG kits after a move is rough
Pallid hand plague marine kill team all done!
Beautiful
Hell yeah.
I am just a simple entry grade noob (but panel lined ofc)
This one gonna be a banger
Looking forward to it. Not sure if I wanted to do a rustic or lighter gold or keep the deeper gold on the box art for the banner
Another 3D printed model
Looks good none the less! Well done.
Ok I got a question
Might be a bad idea
Instead of a CSM army
Can I just run cultists
And like nothing else
I mean obviously I want vehicles and demons
But no Space Marines
Could I do it?
Afaik only in killteam
wtf is Afaik?
As far as I know
Oh
Enamel?
Not my best work, rakarth flesh and pallid wych flesh are still temperamental as always
The bone/off-white
Iirc there is a cultist-focused detachment for csm. Main units are the regular cultists up to accursed, and dark commune
Detachment is literally called Chaos Cult
Just play darkoath chaos in AoS
Better game system anyways and it actually respects the idea of running cultists and isn’t actively pulling them out of all of codexes for no reason (salty ksons player here)
Can you tell which of these is mechanicus standard grey primer and which is rustoleum grey?
Trying to see if they're actually close or im just trying to save myself from buying a can
Oh the armor? Its just a base coat of ushabti bone, then a coat of pro acryl ivory, then skeleton horde and contrast medium 1:1 wash
Without all the dirt and grime it gets you something like this
Krieg is Rust-Oleum right?
Okay so its not just me
Krieg is MSG, space wolf is rustoleum
I think the marine looks better, the krieg looks a little mottled
Yeah the kriegsmen came 2nd hand
Like 3d print or eBay?
Ebay, already primed
Ahhh yeah looks a little thick with it
2nd hand orks always require stripping
I don't use citadel but I can't see why you wouldn't be able to
I may just sit with it, primer looks a little thick but its not obscuring any details so I may just let it be
Do a test base coat and see if you fuck with it or not, not like there's too many ornate details to fuck up like on the chest aquila for marine feathers
Did a quick test on the shoulder, goes on smooth and doesnt bead up
Thankfully rustoleum grey is such a close match it wont make much of a difference
The only issue is it takes SO LONG to cure
Like I primed this marine on sunday and the base just stopped being tacky this morning
Yeah that looks totally fine
Imo it looks better and is cheaper, if you just plan around your projects and do it in stages it's NBD
I don't think there's enough cultist units to fill out a 2000 point list without it just being mostly vehicles
What about the cultists themselves supported by daemons?
you can only have 25% of the points costs from an allied faction iirc
Oooooh
I didn’t know that
So if say I play Guard and want a few Space Marines or Sororitas to protect some key units I could only have, say, 500 points of them for a 2000 point army?
actually, I'm not sure how the allied detachments work now
Ah
Well I’m just gonna believe you until proven wrong
That does actually give me some ideas for an Inquisition army though.
there might not be a way of having multiple factions in a single army list in 10th
might not be a way
I’ve had an idea of an Inquisition army of Tempestus Scions with Grey Knight support
Now is my time
Now if only Fyodor Karamazov was still around…
the only way is for special units like knights for the imperium, chaos knights or daemons for chaos, imperial guard for gsc
Darn
no core rule that states that you may mix your armies any more
I feel like Imperial Agents should probably allow that though
all mixing rules are from the codex rules of the specific faction and those specify which units you may take
yes imperial agents can be included, one retinue and one character per 1000 points
imperial agent units are called retinues if they're more than just a single character model
Ah
It seems like you dont really know either game system if you’re asking about cultists as an army😂 how would you know if you dont like aos?
Also im saying this as someone who literally came into the hobby with the intention of doing exactly what you’re doing: chaos is an npc faction in 40k and you won’t get proper support for almost anything you want to do within the faction unless you essentially homebrew your own rulebooks
Ask me what happened to my 3000pts of tzeentch daemons: ask me if they even baseline function in the army anymore lmao
Am I going crazy or did they
-Ask whether cultists only were usable
-get given way they are
-say no
Lmaoo fr
Also I forgot to mention Trench Crusade the entire game system is essentially multiple chaos cults as armies
Except Sultanate ig but they’re also dripped tf out
5 models done in a day, its time for bed
Nice
Don’t like the setting
Games probably fine
I just feel it’s existence is an insult
An odd take for sure
Even when I really hated AOS back in September and October last year when I started 40K it was just because I didn’t like the themes
This is another level of insane
It is certainly an interesting opinion
Ow. Y’all can like it. I just don’t.
yes but it takes days
I think some of the army’s and factions are interesting but find the overall setting and lore confusing
I wouldn’t say I hate AOS it’s just not my cup of tea lore wise
made some double checking online
this is titus squad for DW
If anyone got the KT Deathwatch models and wants to make Titus squad. us this as reference

WIP Krios Venator
Is this a little Helghast?
Yes
Bro be Bearing those Words frfr 💔 🥀
Wysiwip
Looking sick
Bought a bunch of STLs of them, I even have a completed set
Certified “lil fellow”
Hell yeah
Dude that looks sick as fuck, I love this DG termie
Oh god I have so much to paint
Gonna try this for my kriegsmen greatcoats
Seems like it'll be difficult but Im sure I can do it
Damn that’s pretty good
Thanks:)
@faint star Titus model arrived and now waiting for DW Sold seperately

The funny thing is is that you could actually make that easier if you use professional paints and use pigments because that's only four pigments total
It's black, white, phthalo blue and phthalo green
What Combat Patrol has the lowest amount of points
militarum/mechanicus
I can't navigate that on mobile for some reason
Admech and imperial guard are tied at 295
Most value is (act shocked) custodes
God damn and I thought it had it bad with a 370 point Combat Patrol
Though that's not completely up to date
The nee Votann box for example is like 350ish points I think
combat patrol game mode isn't really measured in points, the datasheets differ from the normal game and are pretty well balanced for what they are compared to one another what I've seen
and it's not supposed to be the perfect system, just an introductory way of play
Yea i know i was just wondering in terms of using it in army building
Cuz the point of Combat Patrol is obviously to get people buying more boxes and making a full army
to an extent yes
but comparing them from faction to faction is pointless when the factions are never well balanced between money and points
Again you want high points the answer will always be custodes
Also consider the value of the units you get in the box
Votann are loving thunderkyn rn so the fact their combat patrol comes with 3 of them is nice
I just wanted to know who had it worse to make myself feel better about having a low point combat patrol box, not for any real tabletop reasons
fair, no harm done
The answer will always be admech lol
For the combat patrol game mode with the custodes box you're at most allowed to use like hald the box
Points are irrelevant
Aslong as it’s good
Well i mean aren't most combat patrols the same price? You're getting less value for the same amount of money
Man I am NOT having fun painting these
The value of the boxes are pretty similar when you compare the unit boxes in money rather than points
there is some variance between them but all of them are a pretty good deal
how come?
Less points but you save on money begging the units separately
So overall it’s good
Theyre just kinda...plain
Ah, well I suppose
And especially after painting my death guard this feels like having to eat my vegetables after eating cake and ice cream
Also I feel like the paint job just isn't coming out well on them
cron i did a long ass while ago
Khârn :>
3 more to go thank GOD
Okay. Now he's done. And has lore!
Jarl Yuka Take of the Ash Wolves. Little is known about this venerable brother of the chapter, lord of the 4th great company bar his loyalty and devotion to a banner he carries into war and his customised armour. Depicted here with his twinned axe and xenophase blade, the sole marker of his deathwatch carrier bar the silver arm, shield and finally a bared hand. He is known for an indomitable spirit, rising to every challenge and task even when the odds seem impossible.
The standard itself, a relic from old terra many have said, was supposedly made by a child, and bar simple restoration has never been remade.
He is oft seen escorting a small Abhuman around the fields of war and infirmaries, raising the morale of the wounded.
Progress on Logan
As loose cannon famously says
First of many
Ohh I like the grey
that is space wolves blue xd
it's a pretty standard space wolves recipe -
The Fang heavily drybrushed over a mechanicus grey primer
Recess shading of Agrax Earthshade.
Russ Grey drybrush highlight over raised surfaces and a little more focus on the high, in-the-light points.
Fenrisian Grey edge highlight from there
Love the hair, grandpa.
Shhhhhh, close enough
I am stumped on the Metallics…
At least, for the rich colour here
Screaming bell? (On the wolf)
Or Balthazar Gold? (On the band)
Oh wait I didn’t ping
@rare hornet
Are those two pictures the comparison?
Just slightly different lighting
Screaming bell’s on the wolf and Balthazar gold is on the banded piece
Not sure which one I’d do across the whole model
Hmm, I light screaming bell more as it’s lighter
Did some Leaper progress
I too made progress this evening
What are some good magnets for magnetizing minis
check out magnet baron
T'was a mistake to start another 10 man squad right after the one before, the highlights just get lazier and lazier after each model
Green Fire
Chaos Marines! Emperor's Children and Word Bearers
Finished my hand of the archon. These models were kinda boring so they got a very basic paint job, but orks is next so im stoked for that!
how on earth am i gonna do this axe
Use it in WHFB
Uh, idk it doesn't have to be That special
You could just do a metallic (but bright) undercoat and then put on a very thin red over the top
Depends on the look you want
glazes and velaturas
\o/ pigment guy
been a while
and yeah I worked out it's gonna be a load of blending and glazes
to me it looks like khorne red on the outer, with a blend through toooooo something like evil sunz/wazdakka ? then jokaero orange
My first thought was that it's metallics but I took a closer look
The new Marneus Calgar mini looks so bad(bc he looks like he wants to die). Let that poor old man retire Guillaman!
Bluetariis
I have one in Macragge blue
Gonna see how Sons of Horus green works on them
The new calgar for ref
I prefer the "new" calagar, but his head is meh
But the armor is 100% improvement over his gravis armor
orks are back on da menu boyz
He needs to get some sunshine.
He has vitamin b12 deficiency ok?
Castellex Destructor
His new model is a redesign of his old terminator armor from around 2004
I bet you'll find people complaining about his current primaris ver back when it was first revealed too if you dig far enough
Its very funny that Farsight now costs less than a Coldstar Commander, which his suit is based off of
Damm he lost value from going and doing whatever it is he’s doing
I wonder if GW reduces model points so it makes people buy more models
Cuz it feels really weird for a character as important to the T'au as Farsight to be so cheap
very much doubt it, meta chasers and min maxers are in the minority
if GW were to 'game' the system to their advantage they'd make Admech the most point efficient and effective faction when their $/pts ratio is the worst
Oh if that's the case than I think it would make much more sense to buff Farsight and increase his points cost (I barely understand tabletop and haven't actually played it)
in reality there's very little correlation with point costs and model prices
How would you paint this? Im not sure if its supposed to be a blue horror manifesting out of his shoulder or gold detail
I'd do the horror
Well yeah I know but it just feels wrong for Farsight to be so low in points
Yeah but if the datasheets represent that I don't really see why that would be an issue, it's just a 10 point difference and the unnamed variant has a huge amount of options to choose from
Well yeah I know but like it's FARSIGHT, I just think it's weird that he's so low points, especially since he's supposed to be in what's basically an upgraded Coldstar suit
By lore logic Trazyn should be a more expensive unit than a nameless Necron Overlord but he is not because his rules do not reflect that, it's just how the game is balanced and the points fluctuate ever so often so they'll never stay accurate if they ever were
Its me I was complaining about it. The attempt at terminator erasure will not be forgottten.
its a funny little guy
Odd, it didnt strike me as trim...oh well I think having a blue horror spawning would look cool, ill sleep on it
its got the same color as his funny bird toes
Doing some tests for my thousand sons, I saw this color scheme for the armor so I tested it out. Its akhelian green base>temple guard blue layer> temple guard ble and gauss blaster 1:1 highlight> pure gasses blaster
I'm not saying the whole mini is bad but I am saying that his head sculpt looks like he is so scared he is mid shitting himself
My HH marshall
first mini
We're back :3
Iron Warrior?
Ye
Nice! What scheme you going with if I may ask? Planning on painting one with a Missile Launcher for my Killteam
I seee. Thanks broski
Phenomenal work,, I love you made the axe a power weapon
Whats a good recipie for tzaangor skin? I hsve 5 to paint and also the bird body of the exalted sorcerer
Hell yeah
What a creature
I keep on forgetting about that-_-
I got a pair of those to do next :3
Robit
After this one is done, the pair will be completed. I've got a Triaros, a Karacnos and a Thanatar that I'll need to decide between for my next project
8/10 of the green highlights
Abbadon the despoiler! Warmaster of the black legion!
Body done :3
Cleannn
Castellex Destructor
Tried to paint a lord of change feather on his belt. Not sure if it paid off
Wow they weren't lying, flight sticks do break easy af
Only took 2 hours too, I was having so much fun
The armor is akhelian green contrast>highlight temple guard blue> temple guard blue and gauss blaster green 1:1 the armor trim is runelord brass and TTC glistening gold 1:1> highlight 2:1 glistening gold to VMA steel>1:1 gold to steel>pure steel on high points. Yellow is base with wraith bone> iyanden yellow contrast>phalynx yellow highlight. Cloak is 3:1 shish purple to volupus pink> pure volupus pink>highlight Screamer pink>highlight pink horror. Inside is just rakarth flesh washed with earthshade
I did wonder if the yellow would be contrast
Hello Guys, I need a bit of technical advice. How much Watt compressor you are recommending to airbrush?
or how much psi it should be able to do?
Around 10-15 for normal everyday use is what i usually go for
Yeah I tried painting with base paints on some of the spare heads and it always got too messy
Feather looks great! Did you use contrasts
?
Death Guard Heavy Gunner and Night Lord Chosen wip
Finished with the greens
I've heard the Dhrukari Combat Patrol is highly coveted
It is, if you're looking to start Drukhari grab one before it's gone
Yep! Its just black templar, lexicon purple and volupus pink blended
Trying to figure out how to paint my tempestus aquilons like the 54th psian jackals without making them look boring, what I think im going to do is paint the undersuit a deep black, and paint the armor in gunmetal and then wash everything but the trim in black templar to make it look metallic
The skull motif might be a bit difficult but ill test it out first on some spares
This guy did some crazy osl https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/comments/wympw1/trooper_of_psion_jakals_54th_regiment_of/
Damn, wish I had a space to set up my airbrush again, wouldn't mind trying that
Dang that's cool
I have a nail art airbrush that charges by USB and the compressor is smaller than a soda can. It's not great for osl type stuff but it does work for it
I mostly use it for priming and base coats
I think I'm bad at thinning my paint
(Also I rushed this)
Are you testing the consistency before you paint? Like on your hand?
yeah looks like its drying too quick
I was told to damp my brush, get bit of paint on it, than wipe the glob off on a paper towel
That's how I was taught
the glob?

the most i use paper towel i think is when i wash my brush and need to get rid of moisture then
"I CAST, TESTICULAR TORSION!"
Hey I just got the Astra Militarum codex (10ed). What do the Leman Tuss tanks use for the main turrets attack? The Hunter Killer missile?
This part.
that's just the Leman Russ battle cannon, the Hunter-Killer Missile looks like a missile and is often placed out side of the hull
Okay. What weapon is the cannon then on the sheet?
as a paint formulator I hated this video, he gets so much wrong its not even funny
contrast over metallics?
a pretty decent combat patrol I feel
This makes me more annoyed at the IG one lmfao
they couldnt have snuck in a cheeky few engineers
which aspects?
How old are the harlequin figures? They look like they could use a refresh.
I'd have to rewatch it to know since it was like a year ago I watched it but things like you destroy carbamate links past 25% dilution which affects durability heavily and dilution is heavily specific to the type of binder the paints are using, some binders cant be thinned at all due to the water content in the paint. This can cause cracking and flaking after 5 years.
I cant remember if he was one of the ones adamant about using distilled water over tap for thinning too, tap water destroys carbamate links due to its acidity which cause paints to have problems
So if you're thinning with tap water you need to add in ammonia for a pH balancer, which it also will prevent fungal blooms on your minis which causes discoloration
i dont think ive ever heard of anyone using ammonia in their painting
though that sounds like something only a paint formulator would do
Its very common in restoration and conservation
but they also dont use tap water for acrylics
the mold issues with tap water are massive
People do all the time without knowing, acrylic thinners are distilled water and ammonia, sometimes a little extra binder
on occasion extra wetting agent if its a good thinner
If I were to kitbash these goobers into Valhallans, what could I potentially do for the banner?
you could laboriously file off all the detail and freehand valhalla onto it like this fella did https://www.reddit.com/r/Valhallan/comments/qppuq6/heres_our_valhallan_1212th_cold_bloods_standard/
you could bugger it and just swap the kreig lettering out for valhalla
or you can get a new flag
I'm not able to open the link, could you send a screenshot by chance?
Ooo thats awesome I actually have that scion flag i could work with that thats awesome thanks
Red Hunters force is finished (for now)
Yeah I tested it in an old krieg model, it still reads as metallic but like black mwtal
How can I use an airbrush indoors? I see those airbrush booths but those have vents that need to go out a window, I live in an apartment and all my windows have screens I cant remove
Salamanders Sgt
Stomp like buuuugs
Do it under the cooking ventilator
Into a cardboard box
I can't decide what drone to make, so I made a super drone
One completely finished siegebreaker
Almost finished my last sorcer er tonight but I couldn't get it done in time, all I had left to do was the higjlights on the head feathers but hey doing 3 of these in 3.5 days, not bad
My local warhammer store reopened so I got some goodies
mortgage payment obliterated
My credit score in shambles
More veterans of the IVth.
Are those Kalashnikov Pattern Boltguns I see?
Is that what that’s called? Whatever it is I like it
I have no idea either, that's just what I call bolters that have AK-esque receivers and banana mags
I like that name for them lol.
Im gonna go for nihalakh for my canoptek circle
Nice marine you got there heresy era armour truly is the best
It really is… I’m using them for my 40K Iron Warriors because they match the vibe better than the chaos Legionaires imo
Those Mark 2s are a godsend
WIP Karacnos
Got them eyes fuckin KWISPY
ive seen you improve over the past year in the ork server and here and i think this is the best thing you've ever posted
well done
My Gue’Vesa
BIRD UP!
Thanks! Its thanks to mostly everyone here that ive got this good
Hey!
Oh yeah, im everywhere
Same lol 😂
I painted a tombcrawler from the canoptek circle
Karacnos Assault Tank
Ruinskulkers on the hunt for heretics
I may have committed some light tech heresy :3
"Some nights, I pray for the guy who first figured out you can take a spare sentinel cockpit and turn it into basically an underhive rickshaw. I mean, he's probably a servitor now, right? You started seeing these pop up a bunch after the last big refit-legs break down more than engines, and the cockpit frame on the new models is directly welded to the engine compartment, so a lot of regiments wind up with a bunch of spares lying around and just begging for someone to do something like this. Anyway, if these are really tech heresy, how come regimental enginseers agree to build them so often?"
-MB
I had a idea for my own harlequin troupe but im not sure how it would work, they're called the masque of the crooked dealer, their color scheme would be red, white and black with gold accents to mimic the face playing cards, id do alternating white and black checker boards instead of the purple and blue on the model, other arms and legs will be red, any coats will be red eith black glazed near the coat tails, accents and finery will be gold and any waistcoat will be bright yellow, thoughts?
that some hot kitbash. Would make for a really baller gsc vehicle
New atalan jackal member
Thanks. I based it off the suicide tuk tuk from Brigador. It's about the right size to be used as a cyclops demolition vehicle so that's what I'll use it for.
I'd build so many variants of this thing if I played Necromunda lol
Hey I’m building a 500 point Guard army, would it be better to bring two Commissars or Ursula Creed
I’ve gotten my hands on some old unopened Kreigsmen
Premium grade aged plastic crack, what’s the street value?
Kitbashed some non krieg engineers
When do I get to post images 🙁
Post a bunch of nonsense in the channels for a few days
Thank you
I will do that
So that I can then post my nonsense minis 🙂
1/10 awaiting for metallics
I like to use genestealer cult shotguns on mine
That was my plan too but I couldnt find any. Im gonna get some krieg shotguns tomorrow maybe for repleacements
Probably because I bought so many lol, bits sites aren't known for holding lots of stock at a time.
the GSC shotguns are so good...
I commend use of karskin for engineers, I should probably do that too if Ill ever get some spares
My first mini just completed
rannik kitbash WIP
Looks great!
thank you, I used a lot of different parts.
The book comes from the cadian upgrade sprue, the head from the traitor guard kit, the pistol is a surgically combined arm and pistol from novitiates and serberys pistolier and the body from inquisitorial agents.
Thinking of shaving down the body and putting an inquisition rossette on there I have from the deathwatch upgrade sprue xD
More Thallax
Trying to make this black necron scheme but I want it to read more as black metal tha. Flat metal. I think what ill do is base coat in Vallejo metal color duraluminium, highlight VMA steel, spot highlight chrome then wash with black templar and contrast medium 1:1, then do select chipping highlights with chrome
Go vallejo gunmetal and paint it black then high light with gray
Idk why I just really like that gunmetal paint color hehe
Oh vallejo metal color blows the model color stuff out of thr water
Maybe i should stop being an actual godamn troglodyte abd get a fucking wet palette so I can properly thin my paints
It help but it isn't mandatory to do it
You can also make one yourself using a plastic container and a sponge
Not directly, the way I was told to do it was to damp my brush, load it up, than gently wipe it on a paper towel, but that hasn't been working super well for me
Paper towel directly might be too porous and it'll drain most of the water
Maybe a bit of cardboard?
That'll have similar problems
anything plastic would be better
and if you have anything shaped like this, size doesn't matter, you can make a wet palette
Yeah i think I underestimated how much stuff you need for good painting
his point was you can make one at home easy
any tray will do
just buy a sponge and cut it into sheets and then lay non waxed baking paper over it
or buy a 5 dollar one off of temu
Oh yea, EC models are technically primaris height
Chaos twink marines
Whatever 20 yrs of age can get in value
oh my God
(this aint my figure btw, it just felt wrong not to post this)
An improperly set up wet palette can actually make it harder to thin paints and make them way too watery, also you dont need one to thin paints properly. Most golden demon painters ive talked to actually use dry palettes weirdly enough
Yeah i just need to start using an actual palette
Anyone tried to give their space marine head drag makeup
Emperor’s children
blood ravens "borrowed" a titans mega bolter
The teeny scope and bayonet is great
Lieutenant Titus from Space Marine 2!
I'm Khorning it so hard rn
@sick ledge you told me the name of some good quality brushes a while ago, not W&N but they weren't DaVinci maestro either, do you remember what they could have been?
Maybe raphael 8404?
Isabay is the superior version of raphael, but it was escoda reserva
escoda is completely unheard of in this hobby unless youre from spain
Love my escoda reservas
Can still pull off some pretty good results, but its getting harder and harder to keep a point
I own every brand of sable out there, over 300 brands
synthetics?
No they're sable, I have some DaVinci brushes, older citadel brushes and some offbrand sable ones, the da Vinci is the best ive got at the moment
davinci isnt bad
I think ill order the 1,2 and 0 escoda, see how they grip me
the 1 and 0 are very similar in size
Ahh okay ill get the 1, ive git a shit ton of tiny brushes
Ive been buying the 18/0 brushes from hobby lobby in bulk for detail work,
I use them like 10 times and then toss them
Thankfully its only a dollar a brush
In order left to right 5/0, 0, 1, 2
How long have you had those brushes?
Those look brand new pretty much, they hold their shape that we'll over time?
I was about to say besides the 0 🤣🤣

I cant for the life of my keep my brushes in any kind of shape
Do you have any pointers?
lightly rotate the brush as you pick up and remove excess paint and do so after washing
Get some conditioner for it
If it’s synthetic it won’t be as maintainable
I see
I've been using my childhood brushes and citadel brushes since forever. It works for me but they do look haggard
That's also like $100 in brushes right there
I have probably $15,000 in sable brushes here for review purposes
Yeah, synthetics will die over time fairly quickly sables retain their point even when they're dead
Angy boi
I dont know if im off my game or what but this feels like the worst model ive ever painted
Like do bad i gave up for the night :/
I think i may switch up my scheme, the video i was following had my doing akhelian green base>highlight temple guard blue> highlight gauss blaster and temple guard 1:1> pure temple guard
I tried layering temple guard and it seemed to come out splotchy
Sometimes we need a mental break
What I may do is kind keep the sams kind of idea but tone it back a bit, instead of temple guard blue do thousand sons blue layer over rakhelian green, then a chunk highlight of ahriman blue then temple guard on just the top parts
Hey I’m building an Imperial Guard commander, do y’all know of a model that has a right hand power fist that would be the right size for a Guardsman?
wouldnt you just grab one from the cadian command squad
oh err right handed
theyre a little bit old scale but the tempestus scions have a right handed power fist
Its not your worst
What do you think about what I said about tweaking my scheme? I think the reason it looks so stark is because temple guard blue is too bright of a color compared to akhelian green
You should know by now that I dont know your fancy words for colors
I'm slowly learning
Lol hold on let me get the approximations
I know digital splotches aren't the best but they'll do
its hard to tell them side by side with both are two digital ones taken by different cameras
much more green and a lot of titanium white in it
I can see why it looks stark next to it
And this is thr contrast base layer
phthalo is a very strong color
and contrasts are just a weak ink
so they'll be very strong compared to a hobby paint when it comes to color
personally I dont hate the scheme and thinks it looks fine now
I see, so thats why even with 2 layers the temple guard blue is still showing up splotchy
yes
I do like the vibrancy of temple guard blue, I think my problem was I did no midtones and jumped straight from that pthalo green to a bright turquoise
@sick ledge this is a better look, I feel like a midtone of that ahriman blue and a chunky highlight of temple guard blue instead of a layer would save it
why not just mix white into them yourself rather than buy ones with white mixed in?
Im kinda neurotic and I like the color tovbe the same every time I use it, even if its a shade lighter ill notice and it'll throw me off my game
then why do you use hobby paints? Each batch is 3-10% different from each other
I did a video on that a while back proving they werent consistant with their colors
Also just that im really not great at color mixing
I shall teach you and turn you into a golden demon painter
that way you too can spend 500 hours licking up your mistakes
Only to lose to someone with an AI generated backdrop lol
It’s sun’s out guns out time
WAAAAGH
Dont get me started on that
@sick ledge do you think is could layer back up with the thousand sons blue over thr existing blue? Or will it look weird
probably? its been a long time since Ive used citadel paints
Oh...oh I FUCKED up
The tutorial said EDGE highlight temple guard blue
Not layer
WHOOPS
Lolololol
@sick ledge salvaged it
Not my best work, but its DEFENITLY not the worst rubric marine out there
hell yeah
Worked out pretty well,
I found a good match for akhelian green contrast is ahriman blue and temple guard blue 1:1...so I m gonna do that because FUCK contrast paint on space marines
Oh yeah this FUCKS
I was about to ask if you primed gold, then I saw the above picture.
Nope I do this shit the painful way lol
I feel that, I got chaos burnout trying to do a unit of rubrics.
I'd post pictures, but I'm gonna assume it takes abit to uh gain access.
hell yeah
@sick ledge how much more/less expensive is becoming a pigment piggy vs using hobby stuff?
You only need 8-10 paints at the high end vs around 50 for hobby stuff so its slightly cheaper
and requires less space
cheaper by ml too
most of the time
How does one start that journey? Where do you buy the proper pigments from?
Guerra for making your own paint, blick or jerry's for paint
For pigments youd want Quin. Magenta, bismuth yellow, pyrrole red, phthalo blue/cobalt teal, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, titanium white.
this is siimilar to my palette I use
Would I be buying them as dry pigments?
Something like this? https://www.guerrapaint.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=145_123_144&products_id=647
Guerrapaint & Pigment Corp. Titanium White 8 oz Dry by Volume [DPW60001] - White | Class=Inorganic | Dry Pigment
no dispersions
dispersions are far easier to deal with
so per oz it looks like its more expensive, does it yield more or is it just easier?
the dry pigment you need to turn into a dispersion for acrylic with requires a rock tumbler
easier
and quicker
I have an entire wall of guerra dispersions
I might try like a basic blood angel or something to see how I like it
tthe dispersion all you need to do is mix it in with medium and you have paint
with dry you need additional chemicals
anything else to be conscious of?
not really
If I want to make like a batch of something is it better to just properly document and recreate it or get like a dropper and fill it?
I use lab beakers to measure, droppers for the other additives
depending on the pigment 20-30% works well
for their dispersion
some pigments really want 30%
Probably half way there
The imperfections on the main knight (minus the Helmet bit since that’s also a replacement piece) are from December (when I got the knight and painted it)
necromorph ass marines, cool I like it
The Thing and Iron warriors is not something I would have thought of. It would make a great diorama.
Combat engineers in progress
Damn that's so clean
Thanks! Glad you think so
What's the base color on the gun? I've been trying to do red guns recently but they don't look nearly that good
Started our as mephiston red, layered with evil suns scarlet. Wash was a mix of nuln and agrax and lahmian. The orange higlights were flat orange ))
Perfect thanks!
Np!
Need some feedback on which scheme to pick for my eldar corsair, im stuck between these two
Well what do you like about each of them?
I mean i lime how much the warp hunters pop, but they dont have alot of differentiation, meanwhile the void dragons have a really cool color scheme but its kinda flat
Lmao my local sold out of Aethon Shaan same day he came out
Still have two Lysander’s though
I'd mix it up, take the kinda turquoise armor and the orange shoulder pads.
Mix the two into one.
New group, Void Hunters
The only true competition if knights ever get one too
AAAÄAÂÁAAAAÃ
Back when I attempted to paint Tsons, and what caused me to get chaos trim burnout
This would be funny if they released this and in the combat patrol rules for it Sly Marbo is just on the same level as a primarch
I've decided to do emperor's children as my first army am I cooked
I'm a big believer that if you're painting a lot of units, they should have strong colors and visual legibility.
I think there's certain stuff people do in mini painting that looks good in photos but actually hurts their appearance on the tabletop
So I'd go with the green 🙂
Green with some of black and red splashed in
My current project for Black templars, decided to peacemeal the army instead of what I've done in the past
Hexmark my beloved
That's tuff
Looks good! A lot better than my first try 🙂
Where is that head from?? a 3d print? Another necron kit?
Whole model is printed!
Bodels binted
The g qwucks
Yuhhh
Working on aod from kill team
I am no longer afraid of edge highlights
And I tried to make a somewhat camouflaged cape
My first mini. Rate it from Complete crap to Bruh
If bruh means 10 then it gets a Super Bruh
The detailing is excellent and very nice colour choices. Good job painting the barrel hole too
And night lords,, good choice brother. Ave dominus nox
But. This is not a Night Lords
Apologies, I saw dark blue and gold I thought they was
Ah wait it’s the lighting in a couple the images I see it’s black now
Nonetheless, looks sick as hell brother
Maybe next time, i paint Night Lords
More 3D printed Helghast
5/10 steel parts
Yellow hobby paint is trash, professional artist fluid acrylics aren't.
Shadowkeepers
Got some work done on my Cadians today
I think i absolutely killed this trim, this is 1 pass, no cleanup
Last warpcoven rubric
you missed a spot
I always miss a spot, its like my signature
And defenitly not because im too lazy to break out base colors again
The signature of artistry
@sick ledge been using this app to determine which citadel paints i can sub with golden
The 3.41 one is chromium oxide green
Ive only ever used golden soflat, are their liquid acrylics good for mini painting?
I think you have chromium oxide I sent you
and yes they are
I prefer them over soflat but thats me, im a nut for smoothness
Its at my folks house somewhere ill have to go look, I think Michael's sells them, ill give them a shot
A little test for my eldar corsair scheme, I really like the black/green
on or off
peak
Reminds me of a great segment from the Terry Pratchett book "Making Money"
All the assassins wear black as a point of pride, but former assassin turned mayor Lord Vetinari wore green because it was actually "blacker than black" or something
it was really well written and really funny I'm probably not doing it justice bringing it up xD
Thanatar progress
I have one Bloodcrusher because I'm not spending 110 dollars on one box. He big
No fucking way they should cost as much as one combat patrol
Just primed this model can you tell whats wrong with it if I didnt point it out?
mold lines?
WASNT ME THIS TIME
or the tad of over priming on the legs?
I can't tell
i thought combat patrols were like $200 now
the cat hair?
About 170 at most on Mr. Games Shoppington at most, and you can get cheaper options on Amazon at 144
Only about a 30-50 smackaroo difference, yeah, but I still think it's Bull-Honkey
god this hobby has gotten too expensive
Yeah I primed it in grey seer, noticed the priming was a little sparse so in the morning I went to give it a quick second spray but I didnt realize I grabbed leadbelcher instead so I had to give it a heavy 3rd spray to cover
Ah fair I do that all the time, luckily the legs don’t matter you can just paint dust on it
Or dirt or what ever
It's got me like
I collect knights, imagine how I feel with our prices per model
Thankfully it's not obscuring TOO much detail
Oooooh noooooooo...
And its deathwatch, I feel ile once the bla k paint is on it may not even be noticable
I felt a wave of psychic damage reading that, I'm sorry broski
why didnt you prime with black?
I wanted more of a midnight blue looking armor so I was going to undercoat leviadon blue contrast then black templar over it
That mades sense, but look at you doing atomic mixing
youre growing up
Im learning!
hazzah!
It only took 3 years lol
Like for my corsairs I found a recipie that requires a ton of paint mixing
Its black base, equal parts dark reaper, incubi darkness and corvus black as a wash, then use that previous mix 2:1 with sons of horus green, then 1:1, pure sons of horus, 1:1 sons of horus and deepkin flesh
imagine that with single pigments now, you'd only be working with 4 pigments
Baby steps 🤣
At least I didnt ruin it with the primer so im pretty happy with it
are they selling those saturnine dreadnoughts to paint yet?
Had my wife send me a picture since its been a few hours since the primer set
It looks a little better
Im sure once paint is on it wont matter
That plate could probably deflect a tank round
Purple is always an excellent choice
I'm pretty happy with it
Thanks!
The checkers were tough
I tried my best to follow this
I'm gonna try doing some highlights on them tomorrow but I think I'm done for tonight
First time painting and you do some nice free hand good stuff
I've always had a pretty good hand when it comes to stuff like this
Get it from my dad
Though I also have been building gundams for about 2 years now so I can't say I'm a total beginner when it comes to models in general
Just my first time hand painting stuff
Looks great you did a great job
That looks so cool
Gonna be sick when I get the bases painted and I get em all gore’d up like the others
That'd be so cool to see. I love seeing what people do to their minis. I would invest but I don't have the money
I’m doing it piece by piece and working with I got so far for I too, am broke
Every now and then I’ll make an investment of sorts beit little things like corkboard and the handy hand drill for barrel holes n such
One major thing I really wanna start learning is DIY terrain and buildings, because I wanna start learning to play the game but I wanna go out of the way to make my own customs board with buildings n whatnot
Yeah that makes sense. Actual terrain is so expensive
Exactly my thoughts lol
I got hardboard for a base thing for it to be on, I already have cork but I’d need a lot for what I have in mind for like trenches and gradual hills n stuff, so I think I’m gonna try and get some kinda foam to make it easier and cheaper
Yeah that should work. Would be interested to see the development of it as you do it
