I semi-followed a tutorial from Pete The Wargamer

Essentially iirc it's just a matter of first laying down blue, in my case it was temple guard blue in a quasi-checkerboard

Then in the middle of each one you do a bit of thousand sons blue

You cover the sword all over with talassar blue contrast

And then a mix of white and thousand sons for highlights

Also this is all over a basecoat of a darker grey, in my case it was mechanicus standard

Just make sure to use a brush you don't care for since it WILL permanently stain it

I use an old synthetic citadel layer brush

I advise just buying some cheapo synthetic brushes since you will be just applying it super messy anyway

The point of the grime is to get it all over the model and then use white spirit or odorless thinner to wipe away from the raised points and leave it in the recesses

Much cheaper, high-quality and also each bottle is 18ml

They are a bit thinner than citadel paints, though

Army painter paints are nice too, the fatigues on the Tempestor was done with camo cloak speedpaint from AP

Whats the difference between a base paint and a layer paint?

Layer is just thinned down and goes on in multiple coats

For highlighting areas in light with a brighter colour bit and creating a natural gradient

You can achieve the same with bases with the addition of water

Or some glaze medium

I did a couple layers of varnish, mostly because the first two were too glossy to my taste so I did satin first, then a mix of satin and matte, wasn't happy with it either and then just matte. So I kinda only worry about cutting pieces off because the resin is very brittle. The paintjob is well protected though

I did a mix of burnt umber and black oil wash that was a bit on the thicker side so it would leave more of the paint after it dried then a dry brush of lead belcher and random sponging of leadbelcher and a brown after that all around. I think what I did before the weathering really helped as well though. I did a stipple of slightly thinned Tamiya putty for a bit of texture and then for the colors did a dark, lighter and lightest stipple of green and tan over a black prime. Wish I taken an in progress picture to show how it looked at that stage

It’s been kitbashed with a lot of Tzeentch parts (Tzaangor shields, weapons from lord of change/magnus kit, some chains and eyes etc) but the base figure is pretty solid and fully poseable which is nice bc I want to pose it to look like it’s stomping on a space marine

ye, paint it white, then go in with green fluoro glaze and damp dry brush where the glow would hit on the model

go extra, pick out the edges with a dry dry brush of white on the edges of things on the model, and fluoro that

when using fluos dont forget to use a UVL varnish because fluos have a LF rating of 5 which means they fade or darken within a week when exposed to UV light. Documentation can be provided for those who want more information on this
