you could gloss varnish the model beforehand and if you mess up I believe having a damp brush or cotton Q-tip with rubbing alcohol would remove the mistake

and once you're done go over the model with a matt or satin varnish to remove the excess glossiness

printing resin is generally not as "playable" as polystyrene (GW plastic)

it's quite brittle

so imo it's less good for kitbashing, since what you print is what you get

if you can find models made from very high detail filament then that's much much better

PLA and PETG are quite malleable

but generally filament models are of lesser resolution than resin printed models

I’ve been thinking about buying a 3d printer and painting minis. I’ve figured out what printer I want, the filament, the paint and paint supplies I need, I found YouTube videos to help out. And I’ve already found some prints I want to get. Am I missing anything before I commit?

PLA printers make really shitty minis that require a ton of cleanup and it'd not worth it

If you're going to be printing minis you want a resin printer, you'll need a space to put it, a ventilated box to keep it in and also a curing booth and a place to clean the resin

depends what type of units you're going to print. FDM is good enough for vehicles and stuff that isn't too small. get a 0.2mm nozzle and dont get a cheap entry level one, bambu makes acceptable ones which arent too expensive

for smaller stuff like characters you'll be forced to use resin but i dont recommend buying one of these if you don't have a whole room that can be dedicated to it

resin fumes are a health hazard

also resin in general is just super finicky and has a steep learning curve

here's an example of something fairly large i printed with a bambu printer

0.4mm nozzle and 0.12mm layers

there's also many different ways to smoothen filament prints like acid, melting and filling

not to mention filament is a lot easier to play with after the print than hardened resin

As for converting the shock troops the issue I see running into is the chest armor and lack of gas masks

idk if this helps but if the fogging is caused by alcohol in the glue it can be removed with a tiny bit of acetone or sanding with high grit wet sandpaper

I use a mix of the vallejo blood and BFTBG if I'm doing any kind of extreme gore, it looks super real if you add bits of ripped up cotton for texture

Iron warriors generally dont have that typical chaos aestethic, so If you wanted chaosy youd probably be better with the normal chaos space marines, but mk3 normally works great for iron warriors, and youd be hard pressed to say theyre not chaos cuz theyre iron warriors

Rakarth flesh>druchi violet>rakarth flesh again>layer flayed one flesh>highlight pallid whych flesh, which gives it a nice sickly looking effect but im nit sure if painting all 4 big guys will make ot look bland, how can I tweak that recipie to give every Hulk they're own flair?

Progress on SA-Guard kitbash.

First time using green stuff and liquid green stuff. Attempted to make the back cargo area and look welded together as well as fill gaps where I previously shaved too much material off. Not thrilled with the welds as of right now. Modified the crew man's arm and liquid green stuff work wonders for that. Used blue stuff to make moulds for the front and top sandbags.
