In that case someone else might know more, I'd advise searching for a guide online there seems to be plenty for how to paint ABS
Seems like the prep is more important than the paint used
Fair Ty
abs should be fine to paint over but if u wanna be extra safe u can sand it lightly, use something rly fine tho so u dont see the sanding marks later
the gun and the guy arent the same kinda plastic tho are they?
i were u id definetly sand/grind the inside of the hands and the gun grips a bit before painting it cus clipping those in and out of eachother is probably gonna wear the paint a good bit
but like again just something fine so u dont widen the handhole by accident
Plan on kitbashing em into an Iron Warrior so sanding should work and they're both the same plastics just from different makers and ones quality is just far better it seems
fair fair
Got like 40 of these things to paint and bash so plenty of time to mess around but yeah I'd been thinking the same on most of the fittings
Almost done on the warden captain just gonna and some black to the joints with dry brush grey and tusken fur on the gloves with some null oil
Looks awesome! Angron is my fav.
nice snow what did you use for it?
It's the Valhallan Blizzard citadel paint
Just not fully dried so that's why it's slightly shiny
from one to another i recommend Scale75 soil works their technicals are amazing and the price difference is more for what you pay for
but i really like how your snow looks
These are all the minis I painted so far and I used their technical
i might use yours in the future for putting it on cloaks or sticking it onto parts of the body when i do a snow one
I'll make sure to check it out, thank you!
Just gotta highlight the squig and do the base
Just be careful when applying it
It's a bit of a tedious thing
I know i may have asked this before, but what would be the best way to clean a mini? I'm having an issue where the mini becomes hydrophobic because of skin oils, but normal hand soap seems to not always do the job.
I also cant really use plastic gloves to prevent this issue.
Best way to avoid this is to use a holder of some type rather than directly handling the mini
and dish soap is what most people use and gently scrub it with a toothbrush
Yeah, i know. I hold my minis up on a stick with a bit of blutack but its not the best.
if you need gaint dead animal bits i 100% suggest primal layer terraain
Are you sure? A toothbrush would definitely destroy the paint.
soft toothbrush probably
Oh it's already painted, sorry I was assuming you were talking about cleaning the plastic before painting
I use a makeup brush. Im scared to use dish soap. So far i have heard dish soap is very bad for the paint.
Oh, no. Sry
In that case I have no idea, the only advice I know is for cleaning the plastic before painting or stripping the paint, no idea how you'd clean it while painted, since I've never had to.
Tbf, as im painting now, i might be over exaggerated how much of an issue this actually still is. Washing it with handsoap definitely helps a lot.
Sub 3 hour 'speed' paint. I was asked to lead by example in a small student gettogether where the people attending were painting minis for the first time and painted this there. (didn't have the greatest lighting)
i actually have a specialty with this from doing gunpla what you can get is a finishing solution that also functions as a cleaner the product i prefer to use is Gunprimers finishing glazer kit and it comes with a polishing brush and a soft cloth for your projects and it protects against dust
Scions primed for the weekend painting
Dunno how I feel about them just yet
Suppose I'll have to wait till I've finished them
Oof, its quite expensive.
polystyrene, a low grade version of it. You can use just about any paint on it, in fact house paint is chemically identical to most hobby paints so you can even use that. Most acrylics and most oil paints are fine for use
factually untrue, some paints can melt plastic very easily, including acrylics. Also not all paint is actually paint, some of its dye marketed as paint but doesnt have an adhesive or a binder
Winsor & Newton Artguard Barrier Cream is a light, non-greasy cream which, when applied to hands before working, forms a protective barrier against all types of artists' materials. It can be removed with soap and water or Winsor & Newton Artgel and also contains moisturizers to condition the skin...
rubbing alcohol can also work i've heard, at least to get the stuff off the mini
washy your grubby hands first
its already painted
I have some weird sweaty hands disorder so creams and stuff dont work for me 😦
so do I, this stuff works for me
its waxy
I might try it then, thx.
Ty ever so much this is kindof reason I asked (Once melted an old macross model cause the paint made the top layer of the plastic very soft)
yeah i get that, i make a lot of paint daily and there are so many that flat out cant go on polystyrene like Rhodopas M60A
oh it seems the increased the price sorry about that its worth it but i can understand
I didn't >:3
I almost bought a nice box offffffffffffffffffffff
deathwing knights
I am gonna, however, paint the rest of my tyranids in a new scheme
rather than hive fleet jormungandr
I bought a box of Khorne Berzerkers
That would look really good, the oranges and dark greys
1/3 of the way through building sisters army
entire kroot army is released
😬
I want to paint a bunch of kroot now 😦
Intercessors are about ready to be called complete:
These go hard!
Thanks! They're some alpha legion bois out to get shit done. Was worried about panzer grey instead of the classic colours, but think they turned out well!
Wip on ironkyn railgunner
Land Raider and Terminators came in
Yey
Finally had enough time to do the second shield
Pretty good word bearers you got there
I probably won't add the spikes on top.
BT?
Man, this purple cloth piece looks good.
Oh, and that thing at his foot is the result of a "minor disagreement."
WIP Land Raider
Any specific legion/chapter it's being prepared for?
Raven Guard
Doesn't seem like their style.
Ye!!
While the RG do favor stealth tactics, they are fully capable of using heavier units. They often use heavy elements to draw an enemy in before ambushing from behind, hammer and anvil style
Terminators seem like a perfect choice, then.
Ghost Legion assault intercessors up and running
Very nice
Warboss with attack squig done!
If you find it in you to continue, I suggest making the dynamite a bit more visually distinct from the squig's skin.
Once the black dries I want to make it look like the fuses are lit
Yeah I noticed it looked a little similar so I gave it an orange drybrush,
So I'm using my airbrush for the first time to try and zenithal. I l ow you're not supposed to let the trigger go while its pulled back but do I have to stop the air flow after each spray? Or can I just rock the trigger back between air and paint?
You know you've made it when this talented mf likes it
Whenever you're free for a day I will gladly give you free class
@mint dove I'm going to agree with a statement
Do it in brown or something which is similar in tone... You know what.. look in that box...
You know what box I'm talking about
Chapter Ancient woooo
Only base decorations left to do.
Haha, the light confused me in the first picture. It definitely looks like there's a cavity where the head should go. 😅
paint a little smiley emoji face on the face plate
It's a robot it will not get any kind of "face" XD
to better interface with the other kin 🙂
The robot is geared up for war, so why giving the enemy a hint where the robo looks at?
Yeah. Not my style
Robot doesn't need to be cute... it needs to be efficient.. so no face needed to kill the enemy
admech?
efficient???
It's not Admech... It's votann in my case. So what..
well idk if its clear but im joking but
the votann robots are close to true AI
and are considered "full kin"
so I mean thats clearly not just a robot who is only efficient
and also nothing in 40k is really that efficient when it comes to technology
votann tech is like, decaying really hard in its own way
Yup, but still: Votann have options to wear a helmet. This helmet gives also only a vague hint where the votann is looking exactly... So why can't a "smart" thinking robot with ai like behavior not hide it's "face" in a warzone/battle?! If i could give an enemy such a disadvantage by not knowing where the "critical" part is, i would do it. And for 40k terms.. ye there are huge calibered weapons etc. but for me it's "legit" that robots just hide their "faces" in battle
i think you are reading like
an absurdly large amount to a joke about
drawing a cute face on a robot
Me personally? I'd go with :3
Cute! I’d love to do an event where the face looks like screen pixels but I imagine that would be a pain
yea not for everyone, I just think it's cute
Effect*
in the far future of the golden age of the 20th millenium, mankind created the men of iron to do their hard labor. What the imperium doesn't know, is that they rebelled because the builders kept hard-coding them to speak in a UwU accent
Oh yeah warhammer is the peak of practicality
Just crazy
Archon_of_flesh would be so disappointed
My favorite part of warhammer's beautiful display of tactical awareness and militant planning is when they send down a bunch of heavily armored guys with swords instead of bombarding hostiles like 99% of future and modern combat
It really sells the mil sim approach
Metallic shoulder pauldron with leather boots and belts today
You continue to impress, well done.
Appreciate it!
40k got lost in the sauce trying to be a game
does it really make sense that a tank is like 60-100 guys worth of points
and then fights 20 feet from everything else on the table, not 3 miles away
i think in the 90s people just played on as big a table as they could get
but tanks are also not to scale as well
Well depending on the context yeah kinda
imperial guard kinda just throws leman russes at things
yea but when would you have a conflict thats a bunch of leman russes
like
on the same block as a bunch of guys
maybe during an ambush or something or insurgent stuff
most 40k doesnt really make sense at all scenario wise
maybe if the table was like 100x the size
like it doesnt really make sense that lasguns have a range at all, for example
its very gamey
That's true but IIRC the 40k tabletop game is just supposed to be a simulation of a battlefield not an actual one. Like a board game in-universe but I could just be shitshotting
ive talked to people who basically complain about that
like they think 2ED and 3ED was more like
storytelling driven
scenario driven
it didnt really try to be balanced because you balanced yourself
All im saying is I hate high profile characters in most armies
yea thats a common complaint
i kind of agree, take thousand sons
you HAVE to take magnus
Uh oh THE angron has visited my random regiment that also happens to have THE ursula creed
Some characters make sense like Kharn or some shit randomly being in a battle but where did Gaunt come from
haha
he has a book so...
I think the problem is when you treat it like a competitive game and you have all these named characters
if they are even a little bit good or even just interesting to use
they will get used all the time
so you kind lose that hobby aspect of THIS IS MY IMPERIAL GUARD REGIMENT
you paint your own general
name them
come up with a story
well that depends on the player entirely, nothing is stopping you making your own character with their own lore and and fielding them as a named character for a cool rules set
yea Im doing that actually
using ephreal stern as the base to make a replacement for the daemonhost
i dont want a daemonhost in my sororitas army haha
Yeah but the issue is some named characters are 100% needed or you cant even enjoy the game casually
One example being Lord Solar
hes just needed
don't play guard nor have I played against but none of the armies I've played with or against don't really rely on any one or multiple characters to be viable
I mostly play Necrons or Space Marines and both can do just fine without any named characters, or my friend's Chaos Space Marines or Drukhari
thousand sons is the worst one
magnus is absolutely critical to making the army function
I need advice, is oil wash (earthy color) necessary or will it only spoil the effect?
A lizard was added to the collection.
I'm no expert, but the dude looks good as he is.
I absolutely need this
The model? Sorry to say it's one of a kind and not for sale 😄
I have and idea, I will not use it this time but next one i paint with this technique will get this wash, if I like the effect i will go back to this one and use it
Is it heraldry friendly if I use Both Terran Raptor (eagle) and templar cross on one HH imperial fist?
What you think guys?
Looks good, lil dude looks like he went through hell
That's what i meant
Its HH legionary so I guess we can say he did
The Imperial Fists didn't really get involved into nasty business aside from Terra and the Iron Cage.
They mostly held forts.
You can't speak for every single imperial fist alive at any given time
Probably was a space marine that slipped in the shower and died and we'd never know
30k/40k primarch based. Opinions?
Gulliman is custom but rogal stays OG with some removals
Feel like I should redo lions base rn. Make it better ngl
After days of procrastination, I continue.
Looks good
Mood and it looks gorgeous
Done the Ironkyn railgunner..
For a slight change of pace, doing a different type of angry marines
Lookin' good so far, want to see the finished mini ^^
Am more a monkey with a brush than an actual hobby painter, but oh well, here's my Infiltrator Raptors. That's my first box of mini's, so there's that
Of course, should have him done over the next couple days
idk lion's default base is really nice
Not 40k but still warhammer
beautiful and clean too
love it! This is what I got up to for my AoS army
chaos boys unite
archaon did several things wrong
Raven Guard Land Raider
do you have a techical rust or tamya brown panel liner or streaking grime? some sort of oil or enamel you could run under the studs would look pretty rad with some sort of grime or rust streaking down them
For beige/cream coloured epic scaled solar tanks, would a black or brown oil wash be more appropriate?
Nah, I have just custom made white spirit with Brown oil paint
Painted the ground today and covered it with varnish
Plan in motion............
so what you're saying is that I just have to start a bidding war then
That wouldn't help either
I'll start the bidding off at $50,000

Dont worry, i got you bro
$65,000
I know how to win at auctions, ive bid against myself a lot
I'm unemployed rn can I get that auction money :3
Just get a loan from your parents
Or how i like to do it, just dont pay.
I still live w/ my parents
WIP Company Hero
Damn, looks sick. Cant wait till i get to propper kit bashing like this.
These heads were the first and last bit of proper kitbashing I did like a year ago, and u can't even tell lol (The eliminator's torsos dont have a normal space marine compatible heads so i had to carve a bunch of plastic to sculpt a neck area.)
Does anybody know how long green stuff is good for if i freeze it
Well I’d happily trade for your painting skills lol
(I’d recommend chopping the base of the necks off, a bit easier that way 😅)
My current WIP sneaky Bois
I was just thinking about that lol. I think what i was trying to do was to give them that neck armour thing they have sticking out. If i just cut the necks of the heads you wouldn't be able to tell that they have depth. Would have saved me a lot of time though lol.
I've had 7 pounds of it in my freezer for almost a decade now. Still good
Does anyone know why chaos bolter ejection ports look like this?
Fashion
GW is an English company, they haven't known competent gun design since the smle
Dk if this is real but if so, then this:
Yes, it doesn't even have a receiver
Or enough space for the bullets
Thankfully Azrael has a better version now.
Oh jesus thats gross
Yeah but he was at least partial responsible for the destruction of most elves soooooo
A little more progress on the champion tonight
Aethon Heavy Sentinel rules. The Melta Lance looks like a worse Multi-Melta
Love kasrkin
Anyone tried to convert regular space marine terminators into Scarab occults?
Thinking of splitting the starter box with a friend and I don't really know what to do with the terminators, everything else I can use for kill teams or convert but I don't play CSM or loyalists enough for me to use the termites for anything else
Thinking of grabbing some Kromlech headdresses and seeing what I can do w them
Scouts with helmets are
To be fair it’s always got armour bane, rather than the usual melta rules for that
hey does anyone have that picture of the orc figure that was painted smoking a cigar and the light of the torch was painted perfectly
i need to have it to show some friends and i cant find it
Da full waaaaaagh!!
I can't imagine the total cost of all of these combined
I don't like to think about it
But some of these are 3d printed so that makes it better
Okay the craziest thing. I read this message and opened instagram and it was literally the first video
ooohhohohohohoho please i need it
thank you so much
I'm gonna need an explanation if how you pulled off this black magic
No thats not me
In anyway
Thats Artel Miniatures i believe
I am a dogshit painter
The OSL is wrong in that, green flesh wouldn't react like that to a flame due to how light interacts with a green substrate, which would mean that flesh isn't green.
Yes I do actually know this and I have entire document and it's only 100 pages of math, I was very bored and it was COVID so I had nothing to do
Flamethrowers also dont work like that and its a fictional race of sci fi critter im not too worried
Yes but I have ASD and mine chose the special interest of color theory
So I'm neurotic about it
Please send help
Nuts on your forehead
I'm allergic to nuts
Synthetic nuts on your chin?
Out of interest, how would you go about determining surface colour based on original colour and light source colour?
The Kubelka-Munk theory, devised by Paul Kubelka and Franz Munk, is a fundamental approach to modelling the appearance of paint films. As published in 1931, the theory addresses "the question of how the color of a substrate is changed by the application of a coat of paint of specified composition and thickness, and especially the thickness of pa...
It's easier if I just give you the wiki for it so you can understand because there's a lot to it because it's not just that theory and you have to do a bunch of revisions to it
Calculating the thickness of the flesh was way harder than I thought it would be
When I say color theory is way more complex than people think it is that's just the tip of the iceberg
It only gets more fucked from there
Maybe, but not even the Reaver Titan's Melta Cannon gets that treatment. Plus with one of the weapons outright missing on the rules here, it might just be a typo.
It’s a 75 point model, that melta hits quite hard for its cost
What weapon is missing?
If I ever get into 40k's mini painting, my main army is going to be one guardsman and only Aquilan Shield
Volkite Culverin, the kit has one. And I'll have to check if the kit actually has that grenade harness, it seems like a weird thing to put on a gun platform.
I'm not expecting a titan killer out of the model, but the Melta Lance looks kinda weird at the moment
If it has regular armourbane instead of the melta-armourbane, that would be great.
It does
Melta armourbane is specified in the weapon stats, the melta lance is listed as armourbane (ranged)
Any tip to make good looking Ogryn?
My bud looked at images of bodybuilders to paint them accurately
Like for shadows?
Yeah
Big gun
I have a bunch but you will probably never do them because It requires mixing your own colors and listening to me talk about color theory.
Would be willing if have time
Know how to paint. Not use white or black for shadow. Use darker color
I don't use black for my flesh stones, It darkens it down too much. What I like doing is using things like ultramarine violet instead which provide a more realistic shadow

Shadows aren't black also they're blue in reality
Huh... never knew
And you can change the hue of them and have yellow shadows if you really want to depending on your light source
If atoma the blue shadow
Yeah I have umm... Have a doctorate in art... So I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to this stuff
I read it yes! You are good little one! Little Ogryn not here yet. Want be prepared for them
So want to learn
feel free to ping me, we can work with all of the paint you have and figure it all out
Want to make ogryn with ripper look good. What brush i need?
I use a bunch of random ones I have laying around, but you just need a detail brush and a larger one for base coaats
@barren verge this is a face im working on currently, the stuble shading is what i like doing the most if you cant tell
this isnt great though and its a speed paint
I have witnessed this abomination and now so must you
Ooohhh
thats not an abomination
https://www.instagram.com/orc.butt/p/CuJ7SAWOlJW/?img_index=10 for those wantying the source
Another lad finished
Almost finished my abaddon
Keeping with the Chaos theme
And finished
One of the grots corpse printed me turned out to be the best driver for my trukk
Hell yeah
Current wednesday early wip on votann salvager luggager backpack....
thats perfect
The fungus beer allows him to commune with the machine spirit
straight into a tree
The only grot to use the careen stratagem when the vehicle is on full health. God bless em
Currently working on an invictor and I don't want the pilot static in the seat. What pose looks appealing to you fine folks?
probably the last one. First one may seem good in theory but the leg sticking out seems unatural.
Fair. Plus him looking in towards the suit is a bit odd as well. I tried to remove the head, no clue what my buddy glued him with...
I really like the tone of yellow you achieved here, very nice.
Still got more to build, add and paint
Battle Brother Potato Pauldrons
Any suggestions on replicating this cloak?
Probably going to apply it to the kasrkin sniper
I suggest doing the lighter color first then maybe use a sponge or make a stencil for the camo pattern?

how did you manage getting the cape fitted on him goddamn
I gave uyp and threw my cape away
Started to work on Sienna's golden butt flaps
Much struggling
I had him on his base when I decided to put it on and FUCK that, hell model.
He looks better cloakless anyway
Debatable, I like the cloak on him
First pass on my company heroes 🙂
I love it so so so much
Thank you, very appreciated 😄
Can someone explain me why the fuck is a tactical armor wearing gunner as tall as a terminator?
oh my GOD those look great
Aw thank you! Was hating the photos a bit because of the classic "photos making the models look like garbage compared to real life" syndrome, but glad people are liking them 😅
It looks like the terminator has stepped in something and is examining his shoe
Put some black paint in the barrel when you do too.. or don’t, i’m a janitor not a cop
Thank you! ^^
Starting to get into black metal more and started listening to this album and couldn't for the life of me remember where I had seen that face before...
Finally got an airbrush and tried to do a white zenithal. Thoughts?
Anyone watching the reveals?
solid, did u use the markers for the calligraphy
Yo fellow, word bears fan
I am so close to being done with this guy just some highlights left
Seems like a cool guy
What brought this on is I wanted to paint corpse paint for my kommandos and needed reference lol
The black is gonna be easy. Painting white skin will be the hard part
I'm thinking of doing pallid whych flesh as the base then putting white over it
Or would that read as white skin and not white paint
you might want to start with something darker, pallid wych flesh doesn't cover really well
do it gradually from darker tones towards brighter until you're happy with it
but yeah don't go for pure white
I usually sktech out any white/light areas with a grey or a similar darker tone I'm ending up with
So something like an ulthuan gray as a base and then layer it up to a pure white
Ulthuan grey is very light as well 😄 It's kinda the cool tone version of pallid wych
Because as cool as pure white would be. 1. It's a pain to paint and 2. I can see it washing out all the muscle detail
Ahh dammit. Hold on in a sec I'll see what grays I have
I was thinking about thinned down eshin or mechanicum greys
are you painting it on Ork skin?
then just working from a monotone gradient from black to white gradually tuning it brighter could work
I have ulthuan, celestra ,administratum gray, grey seer, mechanicus standard gray, dawnstone and fenrisian gray but that's more blue
Also stormvermin fur
do you want a cool or warm finish
I'd want a more cool tone, as close to the standard cold looking corpse paint
then going from grey seer -> administratum grey -> mix of ulthuan and administratum -> ulthuan could be the way to go
or start with celestra grey optionally
or dunno, not sure how that paitn really behaves
Well thankfully I have 3 squads of commandos and no end of practice material
So I'll give that a go:)
let us know how it will go
Do you think a white drybrush over top of the ulthuan would look good or subtract from the look
think that's a no for me
but I don't really like the chalky look of drybrushing in general
Any ork stuff?
Orks lose yet again
I don't understand why gw hates orks so much
Tau got like 3 new units for their codex we get 1, and all it is is an update of a current unit
Beast boys are relatively new, no?
WIP of my 30k iorn warriors warsmith, what u all think 🤔
Looks good, I see you went for the sword praetor body, it works well
Where did you manage to grab that servo arm flamer/melta?
The finecast 40K Tech Marine with servators
Ooooh
Finally finished my Voidsmen-at-arms

Shiny
pretty bois for my Knights
I need to finish some of my 30k stuff
the historical fiction of the far flung future
I'm still miffed the new titan game is for HH
was really hoping for a rerelease of classic 40k era epic
maybe I'll luck out and get a BFG rerelease thou
If legions gains enough traction then there’s a slim possibility?
It’s fun to get the titans out again, I used to play titanicus to death
The baby knights are some of my favourites
AdMech moment, at least the ork model looks cool
Is that GW or a proxy? Looks likea proxy but I'm not sure
Proxy, it's the Cartographan Privateers by Golden Dragon Games
95% of my minis are 3d printed
resin or fdm
my fdm prints for mini is some spots looks alr but the other is ehhh
or just doesnt print at all
Get an Elegoo Mars
Best money to the hobby you'll ever spend
But I've got 2k of Knights, about 1k of Eldar, and printed about 3k of things for friends
Currently finishing and redoing the paint for my knights, and by the 30th I gotta do up 1k of Necrons for a friend to join me at a 2v2
They look great!
A lil bit too golden in my opinion, but it's 40k we're talking about, there can be never enough gold (just like there can never be enough dakka)
Oh yea they're meant to be ostentatious, foot soldiers for a well funded Knightly order
You know, with all the gold laying around on imperial battlefields, they could probably fund a second astra militarum lol
actually, is gold valuable at all in 40k? They use it a lot, and they have literally millions of planets and even more asteroids to mine from
Has a book ever mentioned the value of different materials? I'm guessing adamantium is the highest
Markers? Like the pens? No, i only use a brush.
It's likely still got some value, especially when giant golden symbols of the Imperium eat up the supply
And tbh, gold isn't Even the most valuable metal now by a long shot, but it's the right price for being available and useful financially
hi chat, I'm asking on behalf of my friend who's just started painting tau. They're going for a darker colour scheme and I wanna advise them on things they could do to improve the scheme a little, any advice?
ping replies appreciated for thsi
I need bro
love the power Dadao
say hello to my bladeguard (still obviously need cleaning up / mould lines removing etc:
Needs more hammers
I'd say some white decals, maybe green lenses instead of blue, otherwise you end up with blue lenses on blue armour on blue cloth
https://youtu.be/wx8-mysJG2s reminds me of this
Difference between laypeople's and priest's socks.
Oh cool!!! homebrew chapter?
Oh my bad
I forgor you are the alpha legion / omega legion person! That’s amazing!
Hmmm blood?
I mean, that's definitely thematic of Alpha Legion lol 😄
As he's your warsmith, some edge highlights etc wouldn't be a bad shout, as he's basically your figurehead model. His loincloth also looks a bit metallic, maybe red or cream would make it pop a little more?
Omg, those are my favourite marine helmets! Did u buy them or print them?

I see your point I might see what red looks like as I was trying to keep it as gritty as possible
As for the edge I am really bad at them and I didn't want to risk ruining him
I’ve never painted nor bought minis. I don’t have any interest in building an army, but warhammer lore and aesthetics are dope, so I wanna give it a try.
In simple terms: where do I start?
My collective experience painting is arts and crafts classes in elementary school.
Personally I just bought a box of minis that looked cool and used the citadel app to find colors. Got paintbrushes off amazon and used citadel snippers/razor blades.
You might like Killteam
It's just small skirmish miniature combat with specialized sometimes niche lore units
Killteam is a great place to begin, see whichever army suits your fancy
Thank you!
Tactical squad
I recently started again after 20+ years. Found a starter set of paints from Citadel, bought a cheap Tamiya plastic soldier model, practiced different techniques on it, my Killteam box of Novitiates arrives soon and I'm going from there. (Wanted to start with basic battle sister squad but it's never in stock in my country)
I've since grabbed a few paints I found I was missing, added a few more brushes, and built a wet palette from some tuperware, a paper towel, and parchment paper. The cheap trash model helped me figure out what I needed without wrecking the more expensive GW ones.
Watch some youtubers that create painting content and see what they do, figure out one you like listening to and learn about some techniques. (Eons of Battle is my go to for painting)
watch canvas artist tutorials, they will explain things better, quicker, and will be easier to understand. The same methods can be applied to minis despite what mini painters claim
Last ditch killed the silent king with combat knives, on cloud 9 rn
Y'all I need help deciding, I'm building a chaos legionary kill team and I'm painting each mini as a different chaos faction
There's one dude in the kill team who's like a sneaky guy with knives, do I make him Night Lords or Alpha Legion?

Start from the tip of the flame to the base. Once I got the shape down, fill it out the sides starting from the middle point to the base a little at a time like a pyramid.
Thanks!
rip wallet
just an fyi, brush sizes arent universal between brands, so listing the brand is recommended. You can have a #6 thats the same size as another brands #0 as an example. The size can even change per line in a brand too, good example is natural hair vs synthetic brushes, the synthetic ones tend to be a little larger for most brands
I found a bigger picture of him and he's got a skull painted on his face
Hah I was gonna say looks like only 3 of golden paints… then I read the quantity
stripes.
Finally painted my servo skull the wife got me, first time painting something and I think he came out pretty alright. His name is Frank please say hi to him.
hi frank!!!
It cant just be me, right? Some of these poses that GW puts out are so damn lame. Like this new one just looks so stiff.
I expect stability is considered for this
also, like
you try hauling yourself around in power armour like that AND jumping
I doubt you could move your legs much
Dude, come on. Its a model. I would much rather have it look badass and break realism instead of looking like it does.
And this is the alt pose. Like you cant tell me this looks good.
Besides the paintjob obviously.
It looks great
Really? Damn, maybe im in the minority.
Working on the big boss himself
@lunar condor you can always commit the deepest Heresy, and kitbash a Loyalist Jump Pack Marine into being Chaos.
(I…know…some of the Primaris are a wee bit larger than Chaos nowadays but you can always hacksaw convert them smaller, or use a mix of bits to kitbash)
you're absolutely correct.
With enough spikes, fine jeweller's chain, and removing Imperial iconography, you can have totally canon chaos marines out of loyalist ones.
A fair amount of my 2e/3e 40k army was repainted loyalists.
Got a companion done
Looks fantastic
Stick a Jetpack onto that to use as your custom kitbash Chaos Jetpack Lord instead.
How's this for a 900/1000 point army?
Do any of you use a 3d printer and print out your own models just curious if thats being done yet as i know 3d printers are still somewhat new
of course thats probably cheating
It's only not allowed on official tournaments as far as I know.
3D printing is by all means legal.
aw ok
You just need to make sure that the other player knows what you're using.
Then you're good to go.
Spent three hours fiddling about the golden butt flaps but felt like they got worse by the minute for the last hour so I guess I'll give it another try some other time
Anyone here know of a good method to fixing the cut-out-dimples ig on space marine backpacks? Where they have been cut too heavily on the vent pods so they are no longer spherical?
Got some 2nd hand marines today and some are in need of tlc is all
as in cut in too deep and the sphere lost it's shape?
Yes thats it
Honestly don't think there's a good method for that. Best one would be just trying to sand the cut out area back into shape but it will not be perfect
or trying to fill in the area with milliput etc if the cut out is pretty large
All of those were ideas i had I may even try using vallejo plastic putty that I bought for gap filling, in an attempt (like with the milliput) to resculpt it
Also thxs for the advice
no problem
sprue goo and a nail buffing bar
Found an old unloved model in the cupboard, so he’s become the tester for my new paint scheme
Is that a blackreach boy??
Don't think so, he's technically a dark angel 🥴
Awww heck
Used him to test the paint scheme for the war hounds
That pose is pretty lame, the one with the power claws one in @white tangle post looks pretty good
they are designed to break easily so you buy more.
thats not really a joke
so many models are incredibly top heavy with terrible supports
😭
Behold, one tea fuelled masterpiece
That's a big chainsword for such a little marine
my primaris marine has an eviscerator because he can 🥴
Is that the chainsword from the Heavy Intercessor Captain?
yep
Cut it off at the wrist and put it on the power sword arm from the lieutenant kit
Sorta did the opposite for my heavy Intercessor Sgt, gave him a Scion power sword and heavy bolt pistol from the Imperial Fist upgrade sprue
.... I have no idea why my phone posted the picture like that but okay
I like that sword, makes it stick out as a special blade
Yea it annoyed me that the Heavy Sgt doesn't get any wargear options like the regular Sgt does, so I just made it myself
Nice
Looking to grab the old sternguard plume and place that on him to finish it
What chapter you planning to do?
My own chapter The Forsaken Sons, Blood Angel successors. Maroon armour with copper accent and black trims
Ooooh, I’m doing a successor chapter, the War Hounds which are descendants from my heresy army of loyalist world eaters
They declared themselves as their old legion name which was war hounds when they heard about Istvaan III, I will be running them as a blood angel successor so I can get death company which will serve as my own funky version
Love the kitbash!! Fits smoothly together!
WIP
What's a good camouflage scheme for cadian tanks amd vehicles?
I was thinking about going for historical British camouflage schemes but idk
Cadian.
It this video, Duncan shows you how to paint your Astra Militarum vehicles in the camouflage favoured by the 8th Cadian. All of the tips and techniques shown in this video can be applied to any vehicle kit and colour scheme.
If you want to give this a go using the miniature Duncan has, be sure to pick up an Astra Militarum Hydra today: http://b...
While it can be brush painted a air brush helps a ton for camo
At least for making the basic shapes you prolly will still need to do clean up and everything with a brush
Already posted this a while back but posting again for attention.
A single Dreg shooter, the only model I've painted in years.
Inspired by.... Yep, you guessed it!
Warhammer!
I'm a lot better at conversions and greenstuff than I am at painting. Hence why I never ever paint ever.
Especially if I've spent a lot of time and effort converting something.
Why would I ruin my hard work with a bad paintjob?
Like this badboy slaps roof
driving around with not just any pick up truck its the all new 40000 chevy silverado
Kasrkin Helldivers, ready to spread some managed democracy
toyoyta
Painted this black templar terminator
I love the glowing effect
However, I do think that it's a little too over-exaggerated
Aw fuck I love it. I love the drone too
That's some nice and suble conversion work and a nice and LOUD paint job
for super earth!
definitely is up close, but since people are mostly just gonna see it a few cm away, i think its excusable, though thanks for the compliment
i love how the guard dog is just 2 primaris power packs bashed together with a plasma pistol on the bottom
yeeeeeeeees :3
When doing a zenithal would It make it look better and more natural if I prime black, spray zenithal mostly gray and then do another spray of pure white
besides the new sylvaneth models do we have any other models that have bee hives?
Yay or nay?
bee dragon.. well it's better than a wasp dragon
My custom city of sigmar is bee themed, maybe get some of that card board stuff and make armor and a horse leash stuff
Maybe i buy the throne bit off eBay
Bit of progress
So I have a bane blade turret but I was wondering if there was a set I could easily juryrig to put it on? Like a leman
Getting better
I do know it fits quite well on a baneblade hull
Grahhh dinosaurs
Idk what colour to do the dinosaur
a baneblade turret on a leman russ hull would be cool
Tried a new ork skin recipie. Thoughts?
Why did apples keep the name apple when all fruit used to be called apple
All fruits used to be called apples?
Is that why potato in French is Pomme de Terre which means Apple of the Earth?
yes
Yes
Tried painting a son of malice.
That’s the main body done, not sure whether to change the brass coils on the bottom of the plasma pistol to a lighter shade of brass?
Current votann lugger wip
Have you gone blue berry on us?
That’s not an ultra marine, he’s a war hound
My loyalist successor chapter from the world eaters who abandoned Angron and fought against their own legion alongside the ultramarines during the shadow crusade
The paint scheme is based on the legion’s pre-heresy colours
He's cute
Thank you!
Slow progress
I had a similar idea of Death Guard loyalists from a ship that got lost in the Warp pre Heresy who reverted to the Dusk Raider colors but called themselves the Sons of Purifying Flame. Their symbol is the loyalist DG symbol surrounded by a flame and they hunt traitor DG with fire weapons
Imo you should do a lighter blue, otherwise people will keep calling them ultramarines. Unless it doesnt bother you, either way it looks really good
Almost done
He's done! And he is beautiful
None off the top of my head but you could maybe get some value modifying some nurgle stuff like bloat drones or the flies from the Gellarpox infected
If you glued some black tufts/some sort of black/yellow flock that resembles hair you could probably make them read as bees easily
Also Tau vespids, their kits are old but you could maybe find some stuff that translates over, saw someone who turned some into Flamers of Tzeentch for a bug themed tzeentch army
I think that's about done
Trukk wip. Just gotta do some cleanup and highlight then we're in buisness!
Best boy on the gun right there
I think he's the best ork I've painted so far
Contrast paints or the old fashioned way? Either way it's really good
I wish I could do this with just contrast paints it's a pain in the ass lol
Base orruk flesh>wash with 2:1 contrast medium:ork flesh>layer orruk flesh>Glaze ogryn camo>Glaze krieg khaki>blend
Times like that makes me really glad I picked crimson fists, shit so ez to paint with my method
But shit still quality for da boy
It's worth the effort but I don't think I'm gonna be doing this for every rank and file boy
Only characters and standout boys will get the treatment
Everybody else will get gutrippa flesh contrast and like it
Oh you'll drive yourself insane if you do thay
Wait is this your kitbash
Lol no it's just a 3d print
I wish I could kitbash this good
you did an honestly amazing job
ive been lurking watching it come together
those patches on the trukk look so good
wowza
Thank you! I'm gonna try and keep getting better every model
Thankfully

I have no shortage of practice material
ebay haul 🙂
Got really lucky with some local sellers, some guy was selling like 3000 points of orks for $200
Ironically I went for a darker blue as the lighter blues matched mine and my friend’s ultramarines too much, and once the helmet and shoulder go on it’ll help differentiate the two chapters a little better
Okay now I feel I've gone overboard, just gotta live with it now
how was painting the yellow
this thing has had so much controversy, turns out the model was scanned and almost everything on there is 3d printed
which isnt allowed at GD
unless you have a big name
That’s so based
3D printing is allowed as long as the pieces have been sculpted digitally by the painter afaik
also these guidelines change a bit every year
but the biggest cause for controversy on that particular piece is that the backdrop is apparently generated by AI and printed instead of being painted or rendered by Neil
How can I paint headlights? Would painting a light gray and then white in the center then go over with an orange/yellow wash look good?
They seem pretty difficult to paint. I just don't want to leave them silver
here's the blue approach I liked
I like it. How'd you di that?
Well how'd you do it in a way I can replicate. Because there's no way I can paint as good as you lol
I start with an almost black blue, keep adding blue to it and paint thin layers focusing towards a corner of my choosing keeping the opposite corner almost untouched
then the final touch is to add almost pure white/light blue as spot highlights to the dark corner to make it look reflective
Okay I'll give that a try!
I want it to read as old dingy halogen bulbs, so I think my base color will be something like averland sunset?
then I'd start with something more yellowish brown and make the averland the midtone
Like this?
don't mind the pixels, this was done in paint
here's how
(I only now realised my mic was active so you can hear me spam redo lmao)
Wip update on Votann lugger...
hell yeah
Bro must be pulling off a sick tekken combo with those inputs I'm hearing

Very helpful! I'll probably base it in iyanden yellow contrast>averland>flash gitz>phalanx yellow then dot highlight dorn yellow

this is actually a good brief tutorial
also yes, I just called something good

you all can stop being in shock
glaze that py175 over things to help, its transparent so it can help tone down the layers
skill in a bottle
Will do! I used some of it on the gun barrel of my trukk to test it and it really helps draw things together
i really hope we will get a new chaos lord in termi armor
Lugger done... base deco still to do...
Finished the last companion!
He is getting closer
Back on painting after finished assembling the kits. Got this Boy in (Kantor) blue w/ Heavy Bolter done!
I like how we have similar basing schemes great work 👍🏻
Ty ☺️
No problem 😎👉🏻👉🏻
Finished... 4/10 salvagers done..
What a beauty!
right! love it got a flat bed and some passanger cars coming next just got to build the loading platform for it
Reminds me of the ones in Darktide
Suggestions for next step on the purple cloth? Tried using a contrast paint for the first time and the texture is interesting, but I’m unclear what the next step would be to make it really pop.
fucking love it mate!!
I would do another coat, then mix it in with some bright red and so highlights over it
iirc its thinner than paint so it should also act as a thinner
Kataphron battle servitors for the machine god!
Was already planning to do dry brushing with a lighter purple. I’ll mix some red in. The contrast was magos purple and I’ve got mephiston red. Hopefully that combo works.
Extra side note Vallejo white primer behaves so weird.
The sprues as terrain is really interesting. What’s the rest of the base material?
Model magic for the hill, GW texture paint or basing paints, army painter battlefield rocks as the rubble
mephiston red is weird, it has such a drastic color shift to it that it threw me off for a while.
I cant stand most vallejo products to the point my office banned them because everyone else agreed
a few are ok but most are just... not useable like their white primer
Trukk done!
Suspiciously little red on the truck, it must be crawling like a snail 😋
MINI OGRYN LOST IN TRANSPORT AAAAAAAAHHHH
IS THIRD TIME
DUNNO HOW MUCH HIGHER ULGO CAN COUNT AFTER
An attempt at a cadian inspired space marine
Saddest thing is most model stores and gundam shops are all Vallejo. They seem to have a really big presence.
Vallejo, Tamiya, AK, MIG, and Shinhan are the big names at my local shops. Would you have a suggestion for alternatives? (Excluding Golden and Holbein due to price)
Citadel paints aren't sold locally in cold weather due to shipping issues and temperatures. Army painter also isn't an option. I could find the IKEA "paints"!
Most of my recommendations are professional things like golden and liquitex. I know people rave about AK but I didnt find their stuff to be that great plus I hate them over the whole holocaust denial stuff
Well, if a paint company can deny the holocaust, they’re beyond trash. How they do that I have no idea.
Done
The imperium had a panic attack about cadia and made a chapter specifically to protect all the cadias I love it lol
The elites to protect the elites
“3 of your finest child platoons please as a protection fee”
They didn't deny the holocaust, in fact they released a painting and hobbyist journal on how to paint and model the greatest tragedies in history. Which is somehow (potentially I mean) worse!
Does anyone have any pictures of Sons of Horus schemed Greater brass Scorpions?
sororitas fren 🙂
looks great
what are you going to do for the icons in the little acloves?
Hemlet
bemley
Primaris blade bros, cuz running Crimson Fists with Black templar detachments are fun
Sons of Dorn united just like in the Declates crusade
Looking further into this now that you've shared further info and it's even more batshit insane. 3 books on how to model mass graves and drowned children, etc. It's already wild how much shelf space is devoted to models of WW2, I guess they thought they'd get an overlap of interest.
Hey hobbyists! Add our new Concentration Camp set next to your collection of Panzers and Luftwaffe planes
it's actually fucking crazy
but they make some fantastic blues
they had a few employees who did
the employees were commenting with stuff like "i dont get why you're so offended by something that didnt happen"
one of them said something like "its not offensive since there isnt a jew in the chamber"
its spain, this is something that you get used to in the scale modeling scene over there
there is a weird amount of people who idolize hitler over there, they even have a clothing line with his face on it thats considered a fashion statement over there
Well the country was run by a Fascist government that was relatively popular throughout its lifetime
yeah, its bizarre to me as someone who has to deal with a neighboring country that constantly threatens geocide and does military displays as aa scare tactic
Which country
greece, so we have to deal with turkey
Oh well they've hated eachother for as long as history has allowed them to
Especially after Greece and the others got together to kick the shit out of Turkey in the early 1900s
110% relatable
Painting my first minis for a Kill Team tournament next month and decided I wanted to do some Inquisition Stormtroopers. (Obese Toothyfish hotshot lasgun when?)
oh it goes farther back than that even, neither country also didnt exist technically speaking until after ww1
Practiced my zenithals a bit more, thought?
The test for my death metal orks
They changed the formula the bastards. What happenes when I run out of my old Nuln Oil!!! I actually cannot comprehend using leadbelcher without nuln oil. God help me.
I'm pretty happy with this, it doesn't look perfect but it's my first time doing any sort of freehand design

First of my skittles. Nothing fancy, just a plain scheme with the cloak serving as a focal point.
Lmao my head is 40% of my body weight, we don't like to talk about it
We can confirm that they are a disembodied floating arm
It makes it very hard to paint and hold the model simultaneously
Much less take that photo
You truly have mastered the arts of one handed multitasking
Is she the right arm? Or are you both left?
She's the right arm so we can hold hands❤️
And arm wrestle
Oh wow that sure is crisp!!! Looking great
Arm wrestling is done with the same arm on both opponents, silly!
Thumb war?
No that doesn’t work either…
Well at least a fist bump is still on the table
make your own, its not hard actually. Look for mars black ink or lamp black as you want a brown tinted black, 15ml distilled water, 5ml of medium, a few drops of flow improver, 2ml of ink, lower the ink if you want less of a color
The new stuff ain’t that bad honestly
its worse and a different color, thats the problem
every year they reduce the pigmentation in it
meaning you need more coats to get to where its noticable
its a form of shrinkflation
i've not found any issues using it
i have 20 bottles of nuln oil from different batches and years
the color in each is different
and noticably different
the new stuff is notably less pigmented than last year
but costs more
so its cheaper to make and more expensive to buy
its still "useable" but it is worse
Next character on the horizon
mini eggs
eggs
Let there be sun
Angy sun
Imma buy 480 skulls for my world eaters…is this wise?
Sir
When has khorne ever said
"Yknow what, no more skulls, we're good on skulls thanks"
That’s a good point I’m buying 200 on top of that just to be safe
There’s gonna be more skulls than world eaters
Atta boy
Still needs more skulls
no. you need at least 5x that
and even then... that might not be enough for a single figure
I think you mean 8x
i think you mean 1200x
But you need to have khornes sacred number
K guess I’ll just spend all my money on miniature skulls
mortage loan for skulls
I’ll be able to build a skull house
Or maybe a throne
Not exactly, those are my custom chapter of War Hounds
Also I wonder how brutal rule would work in Horus heresy
Can anyone explain the rule?
DA BIG BOSS IS DONE
Weren't the war hounds, primary white and secondary blue??
That was the world eater paint scheme
White blue brass and weathered to hell
2nd terminator i painted up (last pic is this terminator next to the first)
Hot damn I love those lenses!!
Wip apotjecarius base..
I’m so hyped for it already, the characters and such you can make from it
indeed
I like that’ll they’re giving the option for buying the upgrade sprue individually or with a unit of 5 marines
Horus heresy looks so fun but jesus they really do sell you things individually. I saw they charged for transfer sheets. 40k spoiled me ig
A horus heresy version of killteam would be sick too
Yeah Horus heresy is a lot more expensive, but they’re slowly transitioning to majority plastic kits
The game is very based around narrative as well, you’ll see this for the purpose of rules and so on
I do like that. I've heard HH is also basically old school warhammer as well, in terms of mechanics and by the paper list building/maths.
Just generally sounds right up my alley but fuckkkkk resin man
Happy to hear about the plastic
Resin isn’t too bad
Staring with 1000 points is a good way to make a legion
Heresy is very rule heavy, but you all use the same rules for the armies
IIRC the average HH game is 3k points right? That's nuts
Yes
"its the guy from Fortnite"
We live in a society.
Exactly why ordering from outside Europe is cheaper in exchange for exorbitant shipping times
there really is no winning
That’s from a shop lad + most of Warhammer is made in Nottingham which is like 6 hours from me 💀
Me and my mate made a version, 500 points
There aren't that many changes to the rules
I got a whole jar of old cadians in isopropyl.
Any suggestions for removing superglued minis from the base?
Knife was slow going and im worried about messing up the feet.
I needed them for some darktide kitbashing
If they're super glued to the base rather than plastic glued then apparently if you put them in the freezer for a day or so they should snap off the base easy enough.
Or you can find products which will dissolve the glue bond online
Be very careful with that, a lot of the new generation of mini paints have a chemical when added to alcohol can cause some dangerous effects in some situations. Basically dont put the jar anywhere close to sunlight and wear a respirator

IPA is shockingly very dangerous despite it being an everyday chemical
that people use willy nilly
||we cant use it at work because its been attributed to a lot of work place deaths due to its fumes||
It’s also crunchy when you eat it
and very spicy too
funny because my dad just like
washed his hands in it
xD
but I mean its in a sealed container
and I open it by the window
i dont have a respirator but I have a work mask
idk what the liek
particulate size of ipa fumes are
but seems fine to me
cant be worse than paint fumes and I just spray my rattlecans indoors into my venthood set up
It’s a meme reference. Because it’s a beast of nurgle. And this is a darktide server. The meme reference is that little kid saying “It’s the guy from Fortnite” about Chief
actually it is weirdly enough, my old work place had around 70 deaths from IPA weirdly enough, its why OSHA has safety standards for it now. Military vehicle painters are also found dead randomly due to the stuff or get serious brain damage for over exposure.
acetone isnt nearly as bad
