But i already own 1 Ballistus Dread and 3 Boxnoughts 🙈
Land Raider might be an issue
Currently having a Land Raider Crusader, 1x Assault Terminators, 2x Terminator Squad , 2x Chaplain in Terminator armor and a Captain in Terminator army battle ready XD
And i will get soon the sponson flamers for my Land Raider so that i can convert him to a Redeemer when needed
I've got my Termie Chaplain already
Based and highlighted
i got 1 with Storm Bolter and 1 with Relic Shield...
The wip tabard
Mine is Storm bolter
If I had a tiny black Raven Guard transfer, I would put it on his knee
I'm having some RG transfers here XD
Ooo, that's an older sculpt
The Storm Bolter sculpt is a comemorative Mini.. Was a gift of a friend.
And the Termie Captain
Thanks the Chaplain with Storm Bolter was my 2nd mini after 12 years of being abscent in painting minis xD
And i'm pretty happy to be back in painting minis... i've painted about 3.1 k BT and a Combat Patrol of Votann in about 1 year and 3 months ^^
Votann's whole Nasa punk theme is pretty neat
i just love this rock and stone.. but now we have a grudge theme in votann
Niiice
The legs of my Dreadnought
Land Speeders are not a part of my army tbh XD
I had started looking for some more armor pen options and I wasn't too keen on land armor
So I looked at the flying options and really liked the look of the Storm Speeder
I currently try to build a mechanized infantry+ mechanized anti tank infantry army out of BT...
Just to frustrate a buddy of mine who plays astra militarum 😄
I've fought against T'au and Tyranids so far
T'au was a tough battle but I managed to outmanoeuvre him
Currently Astra Militarum is my main test opponent...
But soonish i will have to deal with Necrons, Tyranids, Drukhari, Custodes, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Sisters of Battle and i think also Mechanicum and Grey Knights....
The wip list of my above mentioned army build managed it to destroy a Leman Russ Vanquisher Tank Commander and a Hellhound in 3 shooting phases xD
One of the people in the Warhammer group I play in is building a 1k Sons army. That should be interesting to match up against
After that my buddy had fear to be tabled
Tsons are tough
not long ago i saw a BT vs Tsons battle report... but BT did win xD
BT has anti-psyker rules, don't they?
Yup
But i don't know if the BT player used that Vow tbh
@dawn stream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1lYkus3a9k
This is the battle report i watched.
Thinking about a commission army for 2024? Sign Up to the Art-W Studio newsletter during December 2023 for an incredible opportunity. https://artwstudio.ac-page.com/aws-lp-newsletter-en
In this Warhammer 40k game Mubin builds a 1,000 point list to expand on the beautifully painted Thousand Sons combat patrol we just received from Art-W Studio....
I watch their battle reports to learn several things outside of playing it myself
sometimes i even take notes XD
They're where I got the tactic for my 10 man Termie brick with a Chaplain using the Blade Driven Deep enhancement
The Blade Driven Deep gives the whole unit Infiltrator
Ye thats nice
They showed me that flamers in 10th ed are nice stuff
Saw the Battle report Salamanders vs Night Lords (with Bricky) and it was amazing to see how the sallies just burnt everything away
Firestorm Assault Force is a great detachment for flamers and Meltas
Thats why i want to get the Land Raider sponson heavy flamers soon
cuz BT have enough options for flamers & meltas
The Redeemer?
Yup currently i have a crusader and i wasted the sponson heavy flamers about 12-14 years ago, so i need to get some new.. by rebuilding & painting the crusader i was able to make the sponson weaponry optional so that i can take it off...
Nice
Making minis part swappable is super cool
yup and i managed it without any magnetizing
i just managed to apply the hurricane bolter arrays and aiming systems loose on the pins of the sponsons
It's something I wanted to try with my Warsuits
And I could probably still do it
The little widget that goes in the arm hole did so pretty tightly so I didn't have to use any glue
Thats nice
I just need to get two of those connection pieces
should be orderable on bit sites
Yeah, I just haven't gotten around to it
I've got two Warsuits so I have one each with the weapon options
thats cool
Incindium cannon on one, ironhail auto cannon on the other
noice
Warsuits are pretty nifty
They're a dreadnought chassis but the pilot doesn't have to be almost dead
yups
Big. Metal. Claws.
I considered the Brutalis when I decided to add a dreadnought to my list
But my army is more shooty than stabby
Thats the point.. my BT are mory stabby than shooty XD
Stabby and burny
80 attacks
Death by a thousand cuts
it's just amazing what melee can do... if it arrives on front
It's pretty funny that the Ballistus Dread's melee attack is from it's feet
I know that it's probably stomping but I can't help but imagine that it kicks the shit out of people
Imagine a Space Marine vs. Custodes game and the Ballistus manages to kill a custodes in melee... Like the ballistus kicks the custodes like a football away XD
My favorite depiction of a Dread's melee attack is the video where one picks up a guy and just spins him to pieces
In that case i refer to DOW II intro where Dread smashes and burns banshees
Yep pretty does it
i just noticed my krieg has almost the exact same colours of ciaphus cains image. now im tempted to make a killteam with that colour scheme, call them Cain's Cadavers (deathkorps=dead men walking) and make their lore be the only Krieg team out there with a sense of humour and a feeling of self-worth due to serving with him
colours match pretty well. just need to rearrange them a little and add some proper gold
golden trim on the shoulders, blue pants, red inside-lining of the coat, red gloves, red collar
Are they friends
@plush swift have you messed with golden's regular acrylic? I heard online it wasn't great for minis but i find that hard to believe.
3 down, at least 100 to go
Yooo fellow crimson fist, respect
Finished these last night in prep for a tournament
More progress on the dreadnought
Got my package today ^^ cant wait to see how my astra boys looks on paint.
The people that are saying it isn't great are the same people saying that citadel paint are special and are designed for this type of thing, which no paint is specifically designed for this.
In fact I'll tell you one thing right now, A lot of the top artists use golden for mini painting
It's good stuff
If you don't use citadel paint it will cause the model to literally dissolve through your fingers like the desert sand
Source:Citadel paint website
But I used golden on corpses recommendation, good shit and now I have more burnt umber paint than I can use in a lifetime
you can use it for everything from bases to base tones
I have been using it as a base over stirland mud, I like the warth it gives
Also horns, I base all my horns in it
Do you know any golden shade I can use to replace averland sunset? To paint all those prints I'll definitely run out of what I have on hand
It's like that kraft Mac n cheese yellow color
Perfect, gon pick Me up some of that tomorrow.
That's what i figured. I just learned the difference after already buying 4 more high flow ones
Everyone says "oh im too low skill to notice a difference", what do you think about that statement?
Hey, anyone that's familiar with the primaris dreadnought models, how easy is it to pose? Because i really like it and hope to have multiple in the future. But the idea of all being the exact same pose kinda sucks.
Not too difficult, the legs have little nubs to guide them to a specific pose but those can be cut off easily
Arms are articulated by default
As long as you don't glue them
Silly statement
They just announced the Event Exclusive minis for 2024
I need that damn Raven Knight!!
Yeah, he looks so good
Don't think I'm ever going to be able to go to a Warhammer event though
he looks kinda as if he was wearing monster hunter armor, with all the feathers
Yeah that raven knight looks sick
Been trying very hard to emulate this dark eldar color scheme my 3e codex for my army- i think im overdoing it and making my test models look confused. Can anyone give me tips to achieve this color? I figured out how to do the icy metallic weapons fine. Just the blue and the eyes.
This was like a one hour paint job test model but it’s not doing it for me
Going for simplicity here to hit the table
Kinda like him/her in the top left
But more blue- I have citadel and vallejo blues mainly
I actually like the way his legs turned out. Upper torso could stand slightly more blue.
The weapon I would do more silvery. It's quite low contrast right now.
And the face I'm not sure, but I agree it could be better.
So lighter on the blue wash for the gun, swap the eyes to black or sky blue? Thank you for the c and c btw
any printer people have advice for removing resin shmoo that accidentally cured with the model?
Don't have a printer, but probably a knife
true im probably overcomplicating a simple problem
I’m making my first army this year, the Imperial Fists, and I’m trying to figure out what to do for a hero. Does it matter if I choose between a Chaplain, Lieutenant, or Captain, or are they functionally the same in the tabletop?
@plush swift does amsterdam clear lacquer affect the sheen of a model?
I would assume so, ive never used it
PAINTING CASUALTY
GOT BRIGHT LUMINOUS GREEN PAINT ON MY WHITE HOODIE
This is why I paint in clothes I don't give a shit about
My girlfriend always jokes I look like a homeless man snuck in and sat down at my desk when I paint
Okay @plush swift I attempted some glazing
Gimme your honest critique
It's a little spotty on the hand I know so we can just bypass that
what did you glaze?
Tried on the upper shoulders
Bit to be fair I tried to glaze over existing highlights so it may look a bit shit
looks like layering, but not as rough as normal
ALRIGHT,
Getting better!
I also tried layering a fleshtone on the lips and knuckles
Snakebite leather contrast paint. Really good paint
I magnetized the arms and weapons on my armiger
And didn't mess up the orientation on any of them!
Is berserker bloodshade close enough I ncolor to caroburg crimson
Another Sternguard
Love the silver on the void dragon himself
Taking criticism on him
Just need to get a red wash to wash the lips ears and knuckles and he's done
they have different stats on the tabletop
Is there one that would be better than the others?
Certain characters can only go to certain squads
So its really just up to you. You can have all of them if you want
Most armies contain a few of each tbh, they also have a special character- tor garadon
Ah, gotcha
That Raven knight looks dope asf
Suddenly realizing why the Corvus Cabal is sold in sets of 9 now
Darkened the lips, I like the look
It got here like a week early thats so hype
im gonna pop these space marines out like rabbits now
Word to the wise, be careful,
If you miss your mark that panel liner will run EVERYWHERE
Source: 100+ gundam kits built
i got a silly little gundam pen
i appreciate the warning, i got white spirit as well in-case it gets particularly silly
The gundam marker is east because it's basically just an ink pen, the panel liner works with fluid dynamics, so where the liquid hits, the liquid will flow lol
I don't see a name on that coffin
You have to varnish before doing the panel liner, right?
You don't HAVE to, but I sure helps

I'm in the market for a GOOD set of brushes since I'm finally getting serious about this hobby
Anybody got any good recommendations?
I've heard good things about Windsor and newton
Oh fuck that I don't have $50 to spend on a single brush.
I've really enjoyed the Windsor and Newton brand brushes, I also got the Artis Opus series S set for semi cheap recently and they seem pretty great as well
But in general any Kolinsky sable brand is considered pretty good quality
Its worth it
Trust
I got a size 2 davinci maestro and its sharp as a knife
Most don't even cost that much
Not to discredit, but just my personal experience, I've ordered two of them from Windsor and both came fucked up
I was not happy
Depends also on the retailer I suppose, how well they're packaged and protected for shipping
That's very true
I have a local store in which I can see the brushes before buying so I've not had that bad of an experience with them
I wish i had a local art store. I only got a hobby store and the brushes there are terrible even if they're stable
They're just left out so warhammer people just dig their nails through them and fuck with the bristles and its like jesus christ why
I found out that michaels has my favorite paint though so im jumping up and down
Found a set of 0-#4 Sable brushes for $70
Probably gonna buy them next month
Man where's corpse when you need him lol
I found a brush brand at a random hobby store, Abteilung 502. Got 00-3 and I love em. Baby the hell out of em
I just need a nice detailing brush for freehand, I've been getting good use out of cheap/mid quality brushes but they fail when I need to do clean lines without any sculpting to help guide the brush
Just wanna shamelessly rip off Brad Glover's highlighting style honestly
As usual, corpse starch's color reccomdation was perfect
PRIME YOUR PLASTIC PLEASE
Why? I dont use dogshit paint
Paint is irrelevant, putting primer on them allows your paints to have something to adhere to that as plastic that isnt sanded or has no means of grip increases the likelihood the paint won't adhere to it or become more uneven in areas
Paint is very much relevant
Plus as a added benefit depending on what you primer with it gives the paint more durability
And fills any spot you may of missed
We've had this debate like 5 times already
I would recommend priming. When i first started, i would hate painting my first couple of minis because paint would rub off so easily and the paint would act a bit hydrophobic. (i know it can be fixed with washing the plastic) But its nice to know that when you're painting, you dont have to worry about the paint rubbing off. as much at least.
Corpse is pretty convinced you don't need primer if you're using a high quality paint, I believe him, but I'm still priming my shit 100% of the time, its worth having for an even base coat, if nothing else
factually untrue
This is testing of primer vs normal acrylics
had no difference in adherence or durability
Literally zero point in priming if im using a white imo
At that point i'd be priming it white already just to go over it with a better white?
I mean I'm pretty against priming in white in the first place tbh
It leaves you with nowhere to go pretty often same as black priming
light grey til I die baby
Toom BTW isnt something consumers can get, its something only people in my industry can get
Its fantastic stuff but I cant afford $1500 for a single gallon
Nobody would know, if this was fully base coated, that it wasn't primed
my ass the paint doesnt adhere
Now you see what I've been saying for a while, weird how using high quality paint changes everything, right?
There is also a streamer called DialanArt who paints on bare plastic, as do a lot of the golden demon winners
Yeah I like painting and not fighting for my life for light red to get good coverage
I was referring to the point of paint being irrelevant on the topic being to primer or not. And I'm not gunna argue for it since people have their minds made up
"wait corpse a complete weirdo with a hateboner for hobby paints"
They can primer or not it's their figures
its not about having their minds made up, its literally about the documents and the months of tests i've showed people about how primer doesnt matter
if your paint isnt adhereing to bare plastic, then you've added too much water and destroyed the binder
simple as
its the literal science behind the chemistry of paints
and considering its physically impossible (if youre not insane idk) to make this mistake with acrylic ink....the paint is relevant
Would using quality paint on top of primer not double the security of paint not rubbing off?
Yep, however a lot of the good primers who help, but they arent in the hobby sector
Nope, does next to nothing. I have a video where this gets tested
with the majority of things done with vallejo paints
with the other part being done with professional grade
I wouldn't mind a good primer, but I'm done with rattlecans. I'd want brush on or something
Get automotive if you want cans, its cheaper and smoother
It's too inconvenient to use primer in CA when i got a husky i have to lock up everytime I go outside to spray
ouch yeah, that would be bad
Would love to see honestly, I'm taking what I know in the automotive field and putting it to figures but obviously I can't sand the little guys lol
Automotive is 100% primer required. but here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ATTqRqkEqA

Isn't the use of primer largely a carry-over from metal mini days where you actually needed it full stop?
there is a minor benefit with one primer on thinned vallejo when i was scratching it with a knife, but thats honestly near meaningless
That seems like the logical conclusion, like people never dropped the priming step between metal and modern plastic and the product just stayed bc of it
yeah kind of, its aalso one of those things we just parrot with no actual proof. Its very common within the arts, its like how I kept assuming cobalt was toxic when the modern stuff is incredibly safe and it was entirely based off old data because the newer data wasnt public
I had to get the new data from a regulatory standards and toxicology lab
Yeah GW seems to get a lot done by way of marketing misinformation
It's also marketed by companies like GW because they want you to buy their primers
But even they will admit in certain painting tutorials that you don't actually need to Prime the mini
which the owner of the lab was hilarious, he was this 96yo chemistry nerd who i sat on the phone with talking about the production of pigments in the early 1900s and the different standards we have now
Would make complete sense they'd want it believed so they CAN CONVINCE MORE GW MANAGERS TO TRICK ME INTO BUYING A $50 CAN OF FUCKING RETRIBUTOR "BC YOU PAINT THOUSAND SONS"
Still coping seething malding and shitting about that one
just buy rustoleum gold spray cans
Bro saw me buying a bunch of contrast paints alongside too and never thought to be like "Oh those are gonna change colour with the primer I gave you"
So glad I found my LGS fr fr
Yeah not sure if it's available in aus but we probably have an equivalent
I keep forgetting you're an aussie
I'll talk to a few chemical companies I know in aus
this was painted on bare plastic
rate this @hollow goblet
Ooo thats right up my alley style wise
Real solid tbh I never would've guessed it wasn't primed
The guy used liquitex acrylic gouache
Thats Dialan, he's a pretty nice guy,
I'll have to check him out bc the bright colour is exactly the kind of thing I enjoy aesthetically
Off topic but is there like a common practice for brush treatment when they are freshly opened? Like do i wash them or something or do i just start painting?
I just got some sable ones
wash them then start painting
maybe use a little brush soap but nothing super involved
Yeah I tend to just give em a lil rinse and they're generally fine
really cheap ones will sometimes have like a waxy coating you've gotta rinse off but shouldn't be an issue unless you're like me and bought like 100 shitty junk brushes for drybrushing and paint mixing
Its just the last brushes i bought were from GW. Both small layer, both fucked up. One i could fix up to the point of being decent but the other is in its grave. Idk what causes it but it splays out when in contatct with a drop of water. I've tried everything to fix it but nothing has, so i'm just guessing its a factory deformity but it sure has made me not want to buy any more of their brushes.
Anybody have a preference on speed/contrast paints?
is there a good reason to pick one over the other?
lots of things, but with GW brushes? Incredibly low quality
Personally I just make my own for both, its pretty easy to do. Its one part ink, 2 parts glaze medium. Add more glaze medium if needed
Found out the hard way
Well if I'm having to buy contrast or speed paint, i'd just go buy ink because its cheaper.
If its because you have both, well both use dyes and not pigments so they fade quickly, speed paint however still has an issue where its water reactivated, even after its supposed reformulation
ah I see
thanks for the knowledge
I don't paint armies, and recently got an airbrush. I'd like to start having a go with the zenithal highlight and speed paint approach. Should I just buy some inks?
I would because they are more versitile. Keep in mind you'll want transparent inks and not all inks are transparent.
if you get the professional stuff, there will be a marking on the bottle which tells you
professional stuff isnt more expensive, its generally cheaper btw
I mostly make dioramas and don't have an issue spending 12- 20 hours on a model or two so I typically just work very methodically
a 30ml bottle from an art store online is like $6-8
if you find yourself available, would you be able to DM me an example?
sure
@plush swift was there any reason in particular you suggested golden high flow instead of golden acrylic?
its thinner and I figured you'd prefer that
I also love the titium white
@plush swift saw this in the wild on the warhammer subreddit, was this one about you lol?
Redditard thinking that car maintenance is a valid comparison to a painting topic
Uhh not using primer is like drinking oil!!! Sometimes it works out!??
Wow such a great analogy mr redditor
its not
maybe?
I remember you saying you were getting shit in a subreddit for painting advice or something
i deleted my reddit account a while back
Question can you use an airbrush for priming?
Redditors cannot make intelligent thought
Yes
Would you recommend it?
Yea tbh
The only successful thing reddit ever did was prove to the world they shouldn't be trusted outside of the internet after their boston marathon manhunt stunt
yes
yes
short thing was, most of the people were attacking me for suggesting the audacity of mixing two paints together instead of buying a new paint
Extremely normal
Its generally how many colours are made, assuming they are the same type of pain
not in this hobby
this hobby is built off layering techniques and convenience colors
The worst part is that guy has only been painting for 2 months
That's really dumb, even if you look at GW tutorials and former GW painters they advise people to mix paints quite often.
If I've learned anything about the internet it's that people don't care even slightly about being correct about things: they care about you being wrong
They're also redditors so if you make them too angry they'll probably kill a dog
Yea like just yesterday in the Ushoran paint guide GW released, they say to mix paints. So it's just fanboys being dumb.
no winning
Harder to sell paint when you teach a man to fish I guess
As opposed to selling the fish marked up at 300%
the audacity of that redditor making a joke about "big conspiracy theory big primer"
like do you think a multi million dollar company with a strong grip on a niche community WOULDN'T aggressively market their 30 dollar rattlecans?
How naive do you have to be?
Honestly it's hard to get legit hobby info when you're starting, so much misinformation that's very keen to present itself as facts
So often you'll see people insert themselves as an expert and give advice on stuff and they're literally making it up or have left out the key "I'm not personally exeperienced with this" info that matters a lot
I.E brand new mini painter makes a combative stance on priming miniatures
Like I can give y'all an educated guess on how to mix a certain colour or approach a certain technique but if I haven't done it myself I'll say so bc fuck knows if it'll play out the way I think it will
When I was getting started out I was told "Thin your paints, then thin them again and then when you think they're thin enough thin them again, you can't overthin your paints" and then unsurprisingly my first attempt didn't go well because I'd overthinned my paints and when I returned to that person it was just "Oh I don't paint myself, I just hear that not thinning your paints is a problem" if you don't know, don't give advice.
God I get told painting tips all the time by this guy that doesnt paint and i swear to everything i want to juggle him like a fucking fighting game
then you have people like me get pushed out of the community
this is advice direct from vince venturella and he legit pisses me off
his advice is terrible
yeah you can paint but you have zero idea what you're talking about
I cant paint but have some knowledge from working in the industry
There's also the SoFlat line from Golden https://goldenartistcolors.com/products/soflat-matte-acrylic-color-titanium-white/
Out of curiousity, what are some pieces of conventional painting wisdom that are actually really counterproductive?
i still can't get thinning right idk how people think "just thin paint" is good advice
its not and aa lot of those videos explaining how to thin it are awful, Ive watched them all and they just teach you how to destroy the paint and not actually thin it
basing with black and white for one
im still too scared to get into layering. i find it so time consuming to base paint that i dont want to risk ruining the entire thing with another one
mixing your own colors solves that a ton actually
i enjoy soflat sometimes, but I dont like matte paint as it can obscure details occasionally
Black too dark, white too bright, or is there more to it?
Washes a lot of the time are highly counter productive too
this whole "you need washes" generally degrades the work
pin washes are another story
imo my one piece of advice i can think of on-hand is to not be afraid to try things out if you have a solid stripping solution, you can always try again. Alternatively your “experiment” can be tested on paper
I got 2 thousand sons librarians just so i can kitbash bits right
But how couldnt i make a quick meme
i mix my own colours and that's the problem lol. it looks so good without any shading so i dont bother
I mean you dont generally need shading
true
Yoo I didn't realize that kit was out yet
Guess he's gonna have to be my foot Ahriman
I'm very quickly running out of shit in ksons I can proxy lol we need more units so badly
Good luck, its constantly out of stock
Or yknow, get a Reeeecast
@plush swift How much faster does oil paint cure with quick drying medium added to it?
I mean its a resin kit isn't it? might be better off with a recast lmao
Ordered some golden liquid acrylic hopefully it is epic
Probably wasting money by buying identical paints but i need to find whats best for me
depends on the oil and the pigment, but generally around 24 hours or so
ehh I have some duplicates of colors, some soflats some high flow
they do different things for me
@plush swift what does Series 1-8 actually mean? Is it like increasing pigment density?
cost of the pigment
1 is cheapest, 9 is most expensive
an example is iron oxide red, which is a series 1, it costs like $5-10~ a kg, while cadmium is $100~ a kg
Isn't it for the same pigment, though? I'm obviously confused.
It shouldnt be
it should generally be different prices per pigment
some mixtures can be expensive due to the complexity of them
and keeping them the exact color through out all batches is expensive
pigments naturally can have their own color shifts between batches
I see, thanks for clearing that up 👍
started my cadian today.
Boot
What's the scale of this BTW?
1:8 maybe? Unsure of the exact scale but a 1:12 bust is a bit smaller in scale
The whole thing with the base included is about 24cm tall
I really love those resin shoulder pads
Got my wh+ miniature
Does he have a hotshot?
Yesh
I thought you bought one
Finally painting something after a while
Day two of this monster - brighter greens thanks to tesseract glow.
Are there any guardsman models with bolters? Like new ones. Not the baby shaped old ones.
looks like all the ones I found are kit bashed
Is that too much gold for a flesh tearer?
Nah he’s just in Australia lmao
The only thing i can think of is the kasarkin box might have some options. But i dont own the set yet so i cant check.
Only krieg i believe have bolters
Well and the cadian castellan
yeah, you're right. Nice.
i also forgot that you can see the sprues on their page.
And the kasarkin don't have a bolter 😦
Also that silver nub next to the battery release is the charge display right? I cant wait to paint each one green or red to imitate their gun ammo.
Yeah, but those are the baby ones. 😦
looks exactly like the krieg ones?
I mean the kitbash has the old cadian models. The kreigsman you posted is one of the new ones. Its also not a kitbash im pretty sure.
you're right, but if you want normal guardsman you're going to have to do some kit bashing either way
new or old
Yeah, guess so. Or just wait and hope that they release one at some point. Surely they are going to have to.
Those are just about the coolest models ive ever seen
@mint dove is there any further advice you could give me on using tamiya? I'm finding it hard to get it to flow without just leaving a black smudge on the flat panels of a space marine
With tamiya panel liner I ONLY use it for recessed areas, anything that's like a shadowed area I stay away from because it has a hard time sticking to where I want it
Her will show you where i would and wouldn't use it on
Gimme a sec
See how the spaces in the tabbard are rather deep? That causes the liquid to flow through the groove, lining it perfectly, meanwhile the shoulder pad, while having a separation has no groove to follow, it CAN work bit more often than not it'll just result in the liner running all over the smooth surface
Let me find a space marine picture and see what the best places for it would be
Remember with the panel liner you want to use it to line deep grooves and recesses, not so much to shadow raised bits of armor
Does that help?
Also be sure to tap the brush against the lip of the pot before applying, you don't need much
Ahhh gotcha. I was most likely overfilling my brush
I appreciate it, these are great things to know
Very common problem lol
palanite enforcers
😋
I got me some of those and they do indeed look cool
definitely my favorite 40k models atm
I think I got 'em about a year ago now. Painted them as stand-ins for Guardsmen rather than actual Enforcers
I have very few actual guardsmen save some Etsy-brand Not!Kriegsmen
I'm so glad I'm getting 3d printed grots because the official GW models are shit
Like look at this shit man
I hate when gw do that though, they do it alot with older ork kits lol
I was watching my friend put his Sisters together and holy: wasn't making them monopose meant to avoid ridiculous gaps in the plastic
It's not like it's a design choice to specifically have less detail on areas like that. When the sculpt is in one piece on a plastic sprue you just can't do much about the limits of plastic press molds
They have gotten really good at hiding the physical limits nowadays though
No it was about making it cheaper
glad how this turned out
dont do retail therapy when you get fired, thats dumb, how will you pay rent?
Because I -
- Worked at a job that paid pretty well
- Just got paid
- have a year’s worth of holiday days that will also be given as pay.
Retail therapy best therapy
I cry a lot. That does not help.
Yes
Im raising your rent
fucker!
suffer
:(
Interest rates will be 20% and 50 blahaj
anyway should I build abaddon or should I build my alavenor
I know :)
What legion are you running?
Oh I only paint for the sake of painting
I just like the pretty models and so I collect the character sets more than anything
I do have an Army - carcharodon tin-cans - but I bought abaddon and alavenor as retail therapy
I have stormcasts flesh eater courts and krule boys (I have not painted yet$
Gonna order ushoran when i get the chance
this does remind me I need to make a list
Ushoran is so pretty and amazing
I need -
Guilliman x2 (one for me, one for my friend)
Another Farsight (To convert into V1 Ultrakill)
Another C'tan Shard of the Void Dragon (to make Minos Prime)
But a king must he handosme
Oooo
Absolutely based Ultrakill conversion
I got some sable brushes and holy hell is it nice to be able to be precise without fighting a darksouls boss that was my old brush.
@plush swift are kolinsky brushes worth the money over just standard hobby brushes?
cough cough yes cough
Green stuff world has a set of #00-#2 for around $50
I got 3 for £22 including tax and shipping. And so far its amazing.
Lemme calculate that to freedom bucks
like $30 i think
About 28. Not bad
I always thought they were really expensive but the ones i got were cheaper than gw
What about brush care? If I'm buying expensive brushes I wanna know how to keep them good
I know you pretty much need brush soap. Thats all im gonna be using.
I got mine for $15 off amazon
not from a hobby brand
Where would you recommend I acquire them?
you cant actually use natural hair with acrylics, it dries them out and destroys them
I spend about 4-7 hours a week trying to fix my brushes because of this
you get about 2-3 years out of a natural hair brush at best
my naturals that have only ever been used with oils are about 60years old
is that says how bad that stuff is for them
Damn i didnt realize how bad acrylics are for natural brushes
So what're some good options?
2-3 Years?! Bloody hell my GW one broke after like 4 months lol
this is also with obscene care. ive had naturals die in a week because I didnt care for them well enough, but those were the dog shit rosemerry and co brushes
yes those brushes are bad
Im still looking for good options
So far black taklon is my favorite
Just like standard brushes?
kind of?
I'm seeing a pack of like 10 black taklon brushes for $10
they tend to be stiffer than gold ones and retain the point better
Alrighty I'll take your word for it. With all the orks I'm gonna paint I know that I'm gonna destroy at least 1 of my brushes
My Amazon brush set from last year is on its way out.
The size 0,1 and 3 brush are fucked
Oh, no. Those are the one ive bought. Oh well, as long as they last for more than 4 months ill be happy.
I get mine from an art store but its way more expensive than those
Let me put this into perspective, they are bad for whats out there on the market, it doesnt actually make something bad persay, its just bad compared to other options
if you get what I mean
Yeah, i get you. Guess you get what you pay for. Unless its GW then you get what you pay for + 40% artificial price upscale. Im bitter.
or artist opus where thery just rebrand rosemerry and co brushes and claim they are the best things ever
I wish we had an art store, we just have the big box stores
I go to the old Hobby Lobby and wait for their brushes to go 50% off and buy a ton of those like $6 horse hair brushes for half off
I should start doing reviews on cheap brushes
If you're in Aus we have a place called the reject shop that frequently stocks cheap asf brushes/hobby supplies that are actually quite decent quality considering
I've also found that if you're a long haired individual its actually not out of the question to macgyver a brush out of your own hair if you desperately need a smaller brush for highlighting or smth, you're not gonna end up with a perfect point but with nail scissors and a dream you can get pretty close
If anyone has zodgrod wortsnagga can you tell me how tall he is?
I'd watch that
@toxic rampart would you know how tall zodgrod is?
That's a good question. Lemme get to my PC and I can research it for you.
Thanks ork boy
Another day another 2 hours spent trying to figure out how to paint a space marine
This should not be hard
He is 15 x 11 x 3 cm
Length by width by height?
Height, length, width. I suspect part of the length is his staff
God bless, thank you sir
One of the grots I'm having printed comes with a grot wortsnagga so I wanna proxy him and make him taller
Oh trust me I got plans within plansd for this
I respect it so hard, first reaction to seeing Tau i was like "thats kinda like V1" id totally be doing the same as you if I got into Tau
What dampness % would you say its minimum for mini painting?
Dampness? Like humidity or water in your paint?
Thats the word i was looking for. And no, in the room.
In my experience it doesn't really matter, I live in a relatively high humidity place and it doesn't seem to have effected my models in any way, but some people say that over 70% it can make primer "gritty", I'd avoid going outside or priming in a room with high humidity if you can help it, but it won't matter much if it's not very high.
Its just that my experience painting has always been a bit diffirent to all the videos i see online. My paint always dries super fast on my wet palette, and the paint strangely soaks up water sometimes, making the consistency very watery. My humidity in my room is 47% and i'm curious if that may be the reason.
That is a bit strange, might be due to the amount you water down your paints, might be the paints themselves. It's not an exact science but I personally wouldn't pay much attention to this, some others may have better advice though, maybe Reddit can help with it
Yeah, i've had this issue for a year and a half. Its the worst when glazing and doing final edge highlights. I might take your advice and reach out the the hell hole itself at some point. They might have a solution.
Chaos infestation? Better Call Saul!
🙂
actually, it is an exact science but most of those details are incredibly complex
there isn't one per say, but you want thing to be at a neutral temperature and not super humid
It is, but not for your average mini painter, like I'm 99% sure this guy won't buy a dehumidifier, cutting mat, anti-envirionmental backing and weasel hair brushes just because the humidity is a bit high.
He will if I tell him too, I will force him to by pulling an america and stealing all his oil
actually 3 of those someone is very likely to buy
the backing no one would though
Ehh depends, I know no one that would spend that much money just to be able to paint better, if it was something that could be used in many ways sure, but most people at least where I live don't see the need for a dehumidifier
I need one so my apartment doesnt mold over and destroy another $35,000 coat
Convenient for you then, would make sense to have one
I'd never get one for painting, and Im a full time fine artist
I'm sure there's some crazies out there that would, I mean, people willingly paint Imperial guard armies so I won't question it

it really doesnt change much unless you live in a place like Malaysia
it being too dry is a bigger issue
Warhammers country of origin is a humid mess, I imagine it was designed with the average indoor humidity of a UK home in mind
not really, the paints they use come from HMG which only makes home and auto painnt
and those paints arent designed for any type of humidity
no point
Which is weird to think about, since warhammer is super popular in the UK you'd assume it would have more attention on the humidity issue, but it doesn't, I hardly even knew it could be an issue until I heard others talk about it from other countries.
Hardly any work arounds exist either, at least, nothing that complex beyond "wait".
I would not call my country humid tbh
Day 3. Silvered the blade, changed the crest and wing stone colour
I know warhammer is like really popular in the UK but is it still a niche market/hobby there for the people who arent into miniatures?
I keep hearing crazy ass claims that GW is like one of the most profitable companies in the UK and that just seems ridiculous
It's easy to be profitable when you charge what they charge
I know they are profitable but they are shmucks compared to actual british corporations iirc
Like i think their highest annual revenue was 400 million
I think people see that GW is super profitable in the miniature market and assume they're like the star wars of the UK
I think it may just be the stipulation of something like most profitable British entertainment company or something
Because imsure the most profitable company has gotta be like heinz or something
Those mfs love beans
Not a good example but an example it is, EA made like 5x the amount GW did and they aren't even considered pivotal to any government economy
At least not that I know of
I ain't about that bean life
I'll put beans in chili
Couldn't imagine just eating them straight
Like "mmmm time for my meal" and its just a bowl of loose beans
👍
Just gonna throw 3 warhammer painting channels that need a shout out, Warhipster, Andromeda Studio, and Fog of Gore. Warhipster makes painting tutorials on how to paint models like the box art using mostly contrast paints, his tutorials are very in-depth and can greatly improve your painting skills if you follow his tutorials. Andromeda Studio makes superbly edited videos that are just great quality to watch of how to paint different army schemes. Lastly Fog of Gore makes super simple painting tutorials using less than 10 paints to paint minis in a grim dark style that come out surprisingly good and saves a lot of time.
Cool freehand dude
I'm imagining a group of grot being forced to shove food into its "mouth" at the commands of a warboss
Duuuuude that's sick, I'm having some killa kans printed soon so I may try something similar
I'll finally have my full grot army
Should I prime my clear drukhari bases?
If I paint the bottles on my mini, spray the mini with matte varnish and then paint 'ardcoat onto the bottles over the matte varnish will that cause any probelms?
If you want them clear, no
The duality of Warhammer minis
Idk it feels relatively widespread, they definitely don't feel like they're struggling and warhammer is the cheapest to buy here.
knife
Gasp! More Tee models to heart react!
Boutta move house with all of my minis
Hoping they survive the journey
I'm gonna need the incense censors in full swing today y'all blessing of the omnissiah upon them
Did some work on my Cogmaidens tonight ^-^ wasn't feeling all that great so just wanted to do..something
Pretty happy with it, Did the highlights on the warplock bronze with Balthazar gold
You call that a knoife?
(WIP)
and I have to consciously remind myself that the cup in the back isn't juice
Wish more people would paint their admech with bronze tbh it tends to look way nicer than the silver everyone uses it and you get to add blue/green tones to the metal bits that are usually kinda boring
Yep!
that sword/ knife is half is size godam
Haha, the right arm is a tempestus scion arm
I wanted to make a distinct character, was hesitating between 2 laspistols and two swords
swords were cooler
Just remember there's a difference between revenue and profit. I'm sure Heinz' revenue blows GW out of the water, but I doubt the profit margin of beans is very large compared to plastic crack.
That's a very good point
God damn the legs on that mechanicus
Belisarius cawl is going through his modelling phase
What If GW start producing beans then?
I'm sure if they edged an aquila or chaos symbol into each individual bean, they could double the profits 😛
Aquilan beans lol, fight for the emperor die for the emperor FRY FOR THE EMPEROR
Is a primaris bean can larger than regular bean cans?
But you can only have a dedicated bean type in the can, also you can only have a can of 3 beans for whatever reason
And rather than changing the price of them they just change how many beans you get in them
They make an upgrade bean can that let’s you mix in another type of bean
The bean upgrade tin
Then what they’ll do is make a new type of bean can which does everything the previous one did and get rid of the old one and then charge you more
And it comes in a variety of colours
That are only on the tin and not in the inside
But only one type of bean
And it contains ONLY artificial food colours
Just a can of food colouring
if we are keeping with the primaris theme primaris beans are just actual not messed up beans BUT it has a giant auto opening can opener built into every can that is incredibly overdesigned
the marines are eating "beans"
primaris special power is just to have stuff not suck
Auto eating beans
OMG lmao
They degrade in contact with the air lol, so they eat themselves
the can attaches to the power armor and has a little mechanical arm
it shovels the food into the marines mouth on its own
BROTHER I AM CANNED HERE
EAT BEANGUN
My Bean is my shield
In the grim dark universe of the 41st millennium…there is only…Bean
Walk softly and carry a big bean
We should rename the crozius relic to Bean-ediction of fury
Beanicosa volcano cannon
Need Ogryn Army
It’s technically possible
It’s just soggy bean flavoured bread
Dipping your toast in tea however…
What
You're no longer allowed to buy warhammer
It is a real meal! It’s a bit of a shite one but it still counts, it’s poor food lol
Poverty- the meal
I’m in this everlasting state of fighting everyone saying that British cuisine isn’t that bad lol
No, it doesnt
its english
If that’s the case then America just doesn’t count either
😂
The new theory to counter the flat earthers, there is no planet, there is only greece
its truth
The earth is just in the shape of Greece
Everyone is greek, they just dont realize it yet
I’ve got the cape for it
Ive got the ouzo
improvement
Something I decided to try in light of doing my guard
Which means I might actually complete my land raider
Which is a painful reminder of my incompetence of how not to use contrast paints lol
Shameeeee
You’re just jealous cuz my landraider is built
Yes, but I bet you wish it wasn’t though
Actually I wish I had more spaces for boxes so I could put it somewhere better but it has a nice place sat next to my repulsive
Repulsor*
Taunting you with your painting skills of old
Indeed, next to all the other old dark angels models
front and side painted. Now just gotta do the back and legs.
really dig this DA
Space elves, in spaaaaaaaaaaaace
Hell yeah
When painting the reflection line at the bottom of the lens of the visor, how do you hold the mini/head when doing the marines right eye? I find his left one really easy, but for some reason really struggle on the right.
are you left handed?
no
damn, then you would have had an incredibly good excuse then
Im right handed. What I would do is tilt the head inwards to my right arm. Left and right lens would have an outward curve for an easy concave stroke. The rest is just a matter of how thick your paint is and the brush you are using.
Wait, if i was left handed it would be easier lol
No, it would be harder
I i find painting his left eye easy while im right handed? So the right one would be easier if i was left handed, no?
hold the mini upside down
Btw do you use this method yourself? Because I've heard it before and tried it for a sec and I'm unconvinced. Unless i need to give it a better shot next time.
I do it, yea
Just hold the model at different angles to try and get the angle you need
Mhm! ^-^
Time to start the Templars again
Side note. I hate painting thse
There's no clear separation of parts so it's hard to get clean lines
So ended up misplacing one of the grots in the kit so now the squad is "9 Grots with special guest, Grot oiler"
Lieutenant is completed and a few extra layers on the terminators shoulder and knee
So I ordered the Aeldari Combat Patrol and Eldrad
Omg does the crusader or what ever it is called trip onto a doorknob lmao
Niceeeeee, go nuts man
Seem like a hard army to paint
Current wip on Sternguards... 3/5 (bases will be done afterwards)
Eldrad is going to be that most difficult, followed by the Farseer
The rest of them are pretty plain
Only Heavy Bolter Sternguard left to do...
that judiciar looks great 👍
Finally got more primer so I present “battle brother Trejon”
niceeeeeee
Thank you!!! A little botched kitbashing and now he’s a lieutenant
i don't think i could ever collect marines because all the primaris vehicles look derpy even though i think the marines themselves look great
if he an ultramarine?
oh that blue on the guns is really nice!
I still feel it's a crime you did that to the executioner sword 😭
it looks GREAT
but the flat-head of the sword is so rare......
you can find it on ebay im sure. You mean the judiciar sword? isnt that also in one of the BT upgrade kit.
you can clip the sword to make it pointy like the one above
Nah not the same, the Judiciar's sword is intended to be flat-bladed
It's an Executioner's sword, not made for stabbing so the blade is flat
Made for the execution of nobles as it seemed more befitting a higher class to be killed by sword than by axe
executing noble demons
Plus people are selling JUST the judiciar for, like, £50 on ebay
Bear in mind the entire box he's from is £90-odd
i dont remember it being that cheap
hmnm, last i checked it was so inflated.
probably even more expensive than the bladeguard ancient
yuuuuup
I really want it because of the armour and the sword
I also need more executioner chainswords for my silly little guys
I think the Impulsor looks good
Generally the Impulsor fits a lot better to my sensibilities
also why does every primaris marine sit IN FRONT OF THEIR GUNS
Ey that only looks ridiculous if you build it that way lmao
They just LOVE the tinnitus lol
its mostly these two that upset me. the impulser is the best of the bunch
Went for the idea of a two handed great blade
Fair on both counts
Impulsor is also a light vehicle, so it being able to skate around on grav-plates makes a lot of sense to me
now this, this is sexy 😄
I like the idea that the big tanks would still be on treads
Rhino is nice, but... idk
Call me a zoomer, I prefer the impulsor
Land Raider spanks the Repulsor though
Jesus christ, not even close
Impulsor beats the rhino by like 2% in my brain
Land Raider clears Repulsor by a solid 80
...I also don't like the fuckin Gladiator tanks n shit
the only primaris design I actually like is this boy
idk why but the roll cage really sells it to me
The roll cage is stupid and nonsensical but yknow what
It does look good
Makes you feel like it'd be stomping through a jungle
it sells to me that its a light vehicle that goes fast
This one fills me with joy
chonky
Love me the Brutalis ngl
They got the "walking coffin" vibe right
They also have dark lore
The primaris dreads, lore-wise, feel like they were made in an era when Primaris were possibly just an upgrade and not a replacement
Because they have the drawback of burning out their interred marine
Whereas the Castaferrum has no threat of that
I don't think the first one is real
Yea it's the Land Speeder Frankenstein that was made with photoshop for an article
The one on the right isn't real, it's a photoshop.
This one is fun because the free hand has a huge boltgun
It's not too different to the actual Storm Speeder tbh
It literally has 3 lenses they could just say it sees through those lenses
There’s no point in having the dude there
Oh you know where the gun is far enough back or beneath the person poking out
The adeptus sororitus are the best army imo to do the stupidly badass look. Orkz look stupid and funny which is it’s own thing and the other imperium factions have more subtly and restraint(compared to the battle nuns)
The only except is arguably the adeptus mechanicus
Other armies identity is expressed in more practical ways like imperial guard where their tanks have excessive guns but are essentially just normal tanks past that. Space marines are similar to imperial guard but you know more armor and bigger guns. Xenos and Chaos are harder to judge like this cause you could argue daemon engines are as practical as they can be or that a t’au mech with 60 rockets is practical to the t’au
The sisters of battle have a fucking pipe organ and an active funeral I love that each of their models showcases how dogmatic the imperium is
I’m a tyranids(and gsc) and space marine fanboy so I love my strong monsters and hordes but if I could choose an army that best represents the themes of warhammer and their own faction very well it would be the sisters of battle
Rant over lol
It looks good I like the rocket launcher also consider dry-brushing some dark red paint one the front or on the treads to simulate blood of heretics
i have some details to paint on it and I need to drill the guns
i got a drill set but I havent done it yet haha
everyone always makes fun of my gold treads but I feel like the echlessiarchy balls out
Thanks a lot... i currently try to improve my skills a bit on highlighting etc ^^
Oh no I think they look nice I just like adding blood to models
For all the grots in the GW kit I don't like I do really like this one
Blunderbuss gobbo, my beloved
Anyone here done any old world yet?
Fuckk, is it 25mm bases or 32mm bases
I think 25mm
They’re older minis and generally abit smaller but lots of them
And square bases
Because formations etc
I’m just sad there’s not really any new looking models is my only issue
I understand it’s classic but some of them look painful lol
Especially the Tomb King box, it was like one new model and the rest are 30-40 years old
Big sadge
Using proxies to make a bretonnia army
Perry miniatures saves the day
But yeah it’s weird af because I saw a video where someone mentioned that the bases have increased size
If you look on the GW store the minis usually say the base size on their store page
Seems like most of the Bretonnian infantry are on 25mm square bases and the knights and Yeomen are on different size rectangle bases
I still think that's nuts that they're releasing a product with sculpts that old sold at full price
Ahhh cheers
Saves me the effort of getting custom bases, 25mm bases are sold in the hundreds
What chapter should I make the dead space marine on Abaddon’s base?
Carcharodons >:3
Anyone got a good 1000 point list for beastnsnaggas?
Would it make sense for me to have 1st and 3rd Company Astartes? Or should I stick to one company?
The last bit of gw white that I ever hopefully have to paint.
No reason not to. Ultimately, there's nothing stopping you from having a different chapter for each single marine in your list, technically, since... At the end of the day, it's your army.
Lore-wise, yeah, each company is usually going to operate in their own specific mission, but... There are plenty of circumstances where elements from one and the other would work alongside. They just typically wouldn't be in constant garrison and deployment with that specific element.
However, 1st Company, being the vet company, often works to support any of the other companies, so it's pretty flexible.
Ah, thankyou
Looks like a Frag Cannon, but missing the ammo links
Seems to be missing the muzzle end as well.
but it's a frag cannon alright.
Usually looks like this
Yeah frag cannon
I wouldn't go that far but it means a lot. Thanks!
Lol give yourself some credit homie
He’s getting there
I like how your aquila came out.
Nice highlighting on the armor
Poor UltraSmurf. He died the worst way: Making Failbaddon look good
Ooo, abandon or just has similar armor?
It’s Abaddon
backpack
Nice!
How do you do your black?
just ordered the necron killteam. making an egyptian undead noble character for DnD so i had a relapse into my love for tombkings and necrons
i will definitely paint them like tombkings with nice beige for the overall skeleton, gold plating, gem details with turquois and ruby red etc
i am so excited for that
You should use a Necron as your character image/mini
I also got a killteam today, but it’s for chaos
Either you take the hard way or the easy way; you either use abandon black or the chaos black primer for your mini
You mean my profile? No. I am still building Krieg and painting them. I own three Krieg killteams and will start on my proper tabletop army soon. I might change to a Tombking or Necron pfp at times if I feel like it.
Legionaires or Blooded Traitors?
Legionaries
Do they come with helmet options?
Yes, they do
Very nice! Sounds fun to build and paint. Enjoy your box.
I will. But I’m definitely going to enjoy my raptors box because they have parts for the warp talons
Marines are so strong in their stat line. Fighting them as veterans was hilarious because we didn't yet use stratagems, Command points etc
Oh really?
We went purely by what is on the datacards of the models (like weapon options and base wounds etc) and I got crushed.
10 veterans including 3 normal troopers are far too weak to defeat 6 marines without any special abilities or equipment. That is at least how I felt while trying to defeat them.
No, I mean for the D&D character
Oh, that would be great but we will be playing online.
My DnD friends are spread across the northern hemisphere.
Ah, dang
I’m converting my CSM to being EC
what are EC?
oh i see. that is very nice. they are probably my favourite chaos chapter
Masochists, bonedust snorters and guitarists alike
obviously horribly evil but when i ignore the parts i dont like and focus on the parts i do like.... they are not so bad
i will make my slaanesh traitor Krieg killteam one day to reinforce your astartes
spiked helmets and breastplates, golden adornments everywhere
red inner lining for the purple coat
I think traitor Krieg would look great with Night Lords, just add spikes and scalps on top of their helmets
i have a plan for all traitor legions
Are modern Kreigsman even able to go traitor?
if you warp them with chaos influence probably
I don’t think so, but you can kitbash them
by default? i dont think you would convince them through terror and persuasion to just become cultists
their biggest shortcoming is probably that they trust their orders. orders are not to be questioned
Oh no, I’m talking about having their aesthetic, not the actual Kriegsman
if you corrupted whoever is commanding them they might fall to chaos over time
It'd probably have to be something like the Blood Plague that corrupted a bunch of Space Marines and Sisters
so if you corrupt a general that then, for example with slaanesh, convinces them that they can proudly believe they have served their penance and their people are redeemed, you could then slowly guide them down a path of prideful sin which leads to slaanesh for example
that is my headcanon for my slaanesh killteam. i have a plan for all 4 main chaos gods and most other traitor legion auxiliary ideas like nightlords with the ribcage breastplates etc. i am very hyped for those kitbashes and paintjobs. and the look on peoples faces when they fight traitor Krieg
