Yeah see ya around
How cool is this
Pretty cool yeah
Finally, an affordable GW tank
put it on a normal sized base and use it in a normal game
Little thing would be able to shoot over any obstacles 😔
make the base higher
I do love these guys
I need to get some of those as well
This guy is from the Titanicus grandmaster set, so the bases are thicker than what you'll find in legions
Done
gawd damn
I shall have an army of knights and titans
Captain Messinius has been acquired, now to turn him into a Blood Angel
I have figured how ima start my guard army good un propa
HORS
well besides the horse
ima get some cadian shock and some krieg bits, make some engineers/navy breachers for a kill team
That works
Make a base of space marines standing on each other's shoulders and holding it up til its the correct height
Poor nob...he didn't deserve that 😦
why would that person do that to the ork
maybe hes trying to take the sword out of him
Putting the bad in bad moons
Actually gonna try and paint some of my drukhari this weekend
I might paint the sister from rouge traders
Opinions on my new grey knight terms?
Painting one up rn
They're prime scale which wasn't that bad to do
they look grey
The scale on them doesn't look quite right yet but I think I'd need to see them next to other termies to really tell for sure
A few of them fit a little weird. I built mine without the book and you have kinda experiment a bit to see which ones match up with what
So the back of the leg is 7...but the foot is ALSO seven?
These instructions are scuffed
Yeah sometimes they resuse numbers, either for same parts or different sprues iirc
HOW EXPANSIVE would starting this hobby be...?
Lookin' good lad!
Depends on what part of the hobby you like
The little minis are so cute. Even when they're horrifying monstrosities.
Depends on what you want to do. If you want to play games with a full army, expensive. Just grabbing models you wanna paint and buy supplies as you need them, can be fairly cheap but it adds up as you go deeper down the rabbithole
I know what you mean, had to use a custode model as reference but im also going to scale up a strike squad using sternguard vets. Just need the bodies and maybe the arms too but haven't seen yet
I think I would target him with a baneblade (He's pretty)
A whole baneblade for Lil ol me

Not gonna sugarcoat it: very expensive and worse if you live somewhere like me where shipping is a pain, you don't have to go crazy and get everything at once tho.
There are a lot of ways to lesson the cost (3d printing your own minis is a good way around this, @plush swift is a painting wizard and can probably recommend cheap brands of paint and glue that are much more wallet friendly than regular hobby paint, which is insanely overpriced when you stop and break it down) and a lot of stuff you can learn how to DIY if you're on a super tight budget(I've made tournament-legal terrain out of sprues and a deck of UNO cards, this hobby rewards creative use of materials), but you're looking at around the same prices as getting a gaming PC, $300 will get you over the threshold where you can play and can keep you busy for for a good while if you're new: and you can eventually "upgrade" your army by buying more models and you'll find a full 2000pt army sits somewhere in the realm of $1200-3000 in paint and models, some armies/models are more expensive than others.
Custodes and Grey Knights are famously cheap armies that you can get a useable army out of with wayy less money spent than other factions, you can also collect knights: but playing knights is kinda like playing chess match with 5 queens, its a whole different game and you'll kind of immediately know whether or not its something that sounds interesting to you
Also if money is an issue then try to avoid Genestealers, Adeptus Mechanicus, Astra Militarum, Tau and Orks because they are all aggressively expensive compared to other armies
Protip: Spend 20 years collecting, refuse to field unpainted models, and save money by mostly buying second hand, damaged and/or fudged models and sprues from sites/friends/club members.
Endgame: Unknown
Yeah also this honestly, you can save a really solid chunk of cash by keeping an eye on local marketplace resellers
I got a whole set of Corvus Cabal and a chaos spawn for like 20USD a while ago
That's like a quarter of what its worth at retail and the only thing wrong with it was one snapped arm that didn't end up mattering bc I swapped a whole different weapon in from another kit
Kitbashed grey knight is just slightly taller than a normal term
I think you nailed it, that's hard as fuck
Like Astropliff said, lots of ways to lessen the cost. If you don't plan on joining official GW tournaments or games just get some proxies
Yeah that looks super clean, can't quite put my finger on what's off about the scale normally but it feels like their weight is distributed properly now, what did you end up changing
The man with the nes cartridges
showerthought but i kinda wanna see some broadsides kitbashed into like, chaos tau obliterators
that'd be siiiiick
I plan on making my Tau chaos corrupted if I ever decide to collect them
That's a big if tho T'au would need the auxiliaries to exist for me to wanna collect them
We should at least be getting some new/refreshed Kroot. God knows when GW will give us anything else though.
My wish is that Vespid get fleshed out with at least one more model (plus refreshed stingwings in plastic). Since I already kinda think of them like Geonosians from Star Wars, they could have a cool artillery model that uses their green crystals kinda like the Sonic Cannon
Taus whole alien allies thing could use more
Oh for sure, but realistically I'm not expecting GW to do more than service the existing line of Kroot/Vespid. They've had what, 22 years to give T'au more than those 2 but nothing so far.
Eldar wraithlord of craftworld ulthwe
Looks very nice! I love the subtle pink of the blade
WIP of my Devilfish. Spray primed it late yesterday, getting ready to paint interiors before assembling further. I magnetised and drilled hinges for all the hatches so it's gonna be pretty sweet once it's assembled and you can look inside all the hatches
I need to paint my falcon might start it tomorrow
Sorry my wave serpent I mix those two up a lot
The transport one
What should i do with these little guys? Picked em up before knowing about the "modeling for advantage" rules.
Not to say that that isnt a reasonable rule.
Clean them, paint them, play as usual? If you're worried about their size, you can put them on tactical rocks or something similar.
I just need to get my metallic colors and then I can paint my army
Any suggestions on how I should decorate the base for my Valkyrie
Most boxes cost 60 for infantry units like space marines, but if you want to order stuff save some money find a local warhammer shop and send your order to their store free shipping that way, if you want to get in the hobby go slow buy a box a month if your budget allows you
There are also starter kits from paints to full on two armies for like 210 usd with everything you need to do a skirmish game
I always say to estimate an army costing around $1000, it can be cheaper but after taxes and other supplies I find it ends up around there for the first army
corpses
generally as long as the bases are the correct size, they'll be fine. Most TOs wont care if you're using vintage models
The tau deserve a much more diverse model line. I'd love to see more xenos joining the tau in expendable frontline roles. It'd really get across just how exploitative the Tau really are sending their allies to take the bulk of casualties while their fire warriors hold the backline with drone support.
But GW needs to serve the needs of the gundam weebs,
Damn citadel primer really is worth the money
I've never gotten such a smooth coat with just one pass
As opposed to this guy whos textured like a braile book
So can I get your guys' opinions on my tyranid scheme? He's still far from done but I have a hard time deciding how to paint them. The claws and hooves are going to be black to red.
I also don't know how I should base them..
damn how did you get the glow effect, that looks phenomenal
what do you lot think of the color scheme?
Used the chest piece and legs of the prim terms and the right arm to mount the bolter. Used the term kit from grey knights for the bolter, melee weapons and heads
also used their shoulder pads
removed the symbols and replaced them with seals + other bits on the chest
had to sand it down to make it clean
@void rivet that's what I meant
though I use these as Stormetroopers since they have Lasguns and Flak instead of Rags and Autoguns
I have an airbrush so I kinda cheated, but it's literally just white, doomfire magenta contrast, highlight the raised brain parts with white and do a super thin coat of the magenta again. It's my first time doing glow effects
Classic gold and purple - I like it! I'd maybe try to highlight the gold and some parts of the coat, but it's a solid scheme for sure!
ehh, you can get the same stuff at an automotive store for like $3 can, I just cant remember the name. Its actually considered insanely low end funny enough
Mr Hobby Finishing Surfacer 1500 is really smooth as well. It's cheaper than GW, but the cans are also smaller, and it only comes in white, grey, and black.
It's meant more for Gunpla, but it works with GW plastic just as well.
I did a post a while back on this, but this is my wish for T'au auxiliaries based on lore.
My girlfriend painted her first mini. I'm so proud
Good thinning on her part! She's gonna be an awesome painter if she keeps going!
Looks awesome! I done purple on my custodes too!
Aquilan shield is a badass color scheme!
T'au literally has a race of psychic owlbears in their auxiliaries, they add those and I am in
Hell yeah dude!
Yeah keep in mind my prices are in AUD and USD converts to roughly half the amount of money so I was still technically correct here lmao
Absolutely! I didn't know they were a thing until I was already painting them, but I really like their lore!
Lop when did that happen?!
Man I gotta learn how to do the lil white highlights that custodes/aeldar players always put on their gems it really makes it pop
I was saying "oh its okay if you mess up the eyes, everybody does it" then she proceeded to get both eyes perfect
Your gf is based asf Emps Children would be my army if they existed
yeah, you can build an army for 600~ but it depends on the army, but 1000 provides enough of a safety net
I'll be probably doing something tomorrow btw but you;re an aussie so if youre not busy right now I can show you some stufff
Lol gems are really weird. Paint them upside down and flip them right-side-up and dot the top with white 😜
But if you're not busy at this moment, i am painting stff
so I can show you some things
Just FYI: Discord has some issues with servers.. So this server could be affected anytime... 90% of servers i'm on are down currently 🙈
Lol she's got a steady hand for sure! Nit sure if you guys know the hobby cheat, but the eye lenses are easier to paint upside down
I didnt mess up my eyes on my first attempt
I'm always down for painting tips. Whatchu got homie
If you go through the wiki there's about 9 races of extra T'au auxiliaries and a tinybit of lore for them. It mostly seems to be whatever role they'd fil on tabletop
It seems like they wanna eventually flesh Tau into being a kind of xenos equivalent to the guard/space marines and not a walking railgun faction
But yeah there's like human converted T'au (who'd be a cultist equivalent and cheap cannon fodder
The owlbear race's only lore is being psykers so they'd be a psyker unit
There's one called the "varge" or something like that and their only lore is they're so big they can fistfist small knights and titans, (so they'd give Tau essentially chaos wardogs but a little more Sons Of Behemat inspired)
T'au should be a really fleshed out faction with a tonne of options and playstyles and they literally just spam railguns across the board 95% of the time
Yea I seen like 5 servers I'm in are offline. I'm dm friendly tho lol
Lol man I messed up so many eyes
They arent for me
thats are actually harder, but I am also doing my lenses much differently than the normal thing
Funny enough on all my guardsmen years ago, I never painted eyes. I just said they were all squinting
I'm at work atm but I finish in 3hrs
Just spamming the channel on my lunch break lol
Well I mean I have a ton, really depends on what you're after. I can teach you more about color theory in 15 minutes than you can in several years in art school as an example
Dude that'd be awesome if they ever made models for them. Makes me wish I could sculpt at all lol
How are you doing your lenses? Got any pics? 😄
I've had 2 servers go back to normal in the last hours so I think it's getting cleaned up
Lol nothing wrong with that! I'll be around in 3 hours if you're up for sharing!
So, first off grisaille is stupidly outdated, it was outdated in the 1600s for this art form, the black really doesnt actually provide free shading unless you dont paint that area, and even if you dont, its so dark that it doesn't look like shading, it looks like you didnt paint it
Color theory is a big hit or miss with me. Id love to learn what you could teach. I either nail it or completely miss the mark and I have a lot of trouble with contrasting colors to separate different parts.
For eyes, it all depends on the color you're after
using a transparent color will provide a lot more utility than an opaque one for them too
instead of doing that dot, you can just do undercoatings and get a more realistic look too
Ive had a much better experience with ak primers tbh
And remember, base with something like burnt umber, not black
you'll get more use out of that for most colors
and if you miss a spot, it looks like rust
i may or may not be around at then
I've been super tempted to find proxies and make up my own data sheets and rules for them but it would be a lot of effort for something I'd realistically only be able to use in games with friends
I have no clue why this keeps happening. I thinned the paint, and yet it still globs up in the edges and recesses :/
Yeah that's just yellow paint for ya, hardest one to get a good quality for
I wouldn't have felt like anything was wrong with this at a glance tbh it's not as if it looks bad
Maybe my wet pallete is too wet?
Am I supposed the Wring the water out before I put it in the pallete
surface tension
No, you're not. However youre doing your wet palette wrong and destroying the paint
the sponge soaks up a ton of surfactants in the paints, so you have to counter act that
which yelloe is it?
Flash gitz
ag yeah there you go
Not really. the chalk in that yellow will always cause problems
I wish they made flash gitz in contrast
they do
there it is
just add more water
or glaze medium
most add glaze medium
A buddy of mine told me a way to get flash gitz to work well is to undercoat a orange/brown color, because flash gitz is a layer paint it would show better on a warm color
So I didn't know anything about the game when I built my first set of Rubricae
And I've been putting the flame icons on my sorcerers BC more magic spell effect drip is always good. But I've had to get creative with how I'm replacing the icon
Think I've found a really good fix tbh
Blu tacced on so I can swap it between minis depending on whether it's meta to have it on your soul reaper or flamer units
Flash gitz take 2
Better this time
Trust the process I guess lol
And after letting the arms dry for about 2 hours before going in with another super thin coat seemed to help the look of the arms
the boy
@edgy jackal @plush swift i see, thank you both
That's really not how that works nor is that how color theory works in the slightest...
It's not actually a warm tone pigment which will give it a really greenish hue if you try that
Okay we good
Love how this rust grime turned out
I'm gonna paint with my girlfriend tomorrow I'm so excited!
She got her first Box and chose thousand sun's
Run
She's gonna fill your shoes with sand
I wish she chose blood angels like me
Well she should run from you before you steal her shiney things
"Our" Shiney things
I am painting them as blood ravens too
Curse of the god-emporer
Hahaaaaaaa 🥴
WIP Sister of Battle. Almost done with her. Leaving her here for now, weapon details and her transfers will be done later today
Good choice on the colour
Thanks! I'm mainly a Guard player, but this order has ties to my custom regiment's lore. So they're a fun side project when I want a break from grubby Guardsmen lol
Oh as an aside where do I get one of those stonkier, chunkier painting handles? I see them all over but I can only find the slim citadel ones
The chonky ones are the old citadel version they don't make them anymore, they switched to the new slim one because they're supposed to be easier to hold
I don’t mean to alarm you but you’ve left the lieutenant’s bald head green….
My daughter's latest
Is your daughter Duncan Rhodes
Not that I know of, she's 11 so possibly not.
Finally got round to painting my skittari marshal
Ooooo where did you get that?
its a kitbash! blend between some modified skitarri marshal bits and a cursed city char, tho i cant remember his name for the life of me
Oh ok my friend thought it was cool so I just wanted to know
It's Glaurio ven Alten III (the other bit in the conversion)
yeah no it was a really fun kitbash i cant take all the credit i saw something very similar on pinterest a while back though i think he was using some of the legio mechanicus stuff from FW
TJATS THE BASTARD
i honestly just bought cursed city for the skeletons and couldnt remember any of the chars
Thanks!
What's a good way to paint bad moons stripes?
Like these things on the shoulders
I don't know if I can freehand them well
Also the the fact you're playing Orks means that you have a lot of freedom to lightly fuck up the designs and it'll just look like Orks hand painted it
It's not like doing freehand on like imperial banners where everything has to look immaculate Ork can kinda get away with the "child left with crayons" vibe if you're not comfy with your freehand
That's actually hilarious bc I use a psychophage as my MVB and that's borderline the lore fluff I gave it, it's a Nid that ate wayyy too much chaos tainted rubric dust and become a huge chaos spawn
should you avoid using metallic paints with your sable brushes or is it generally okay?
Just make sure you wash your brush properly and you'll be ok
Most of the issues with metallics come from people not properly rinsing it afterwards
he FUCKS
See this is the one scenario where black priming gets super good results lol, nothing else quite makes red that rich
These ones I primed black then slap chopped
I feel like i could have done the slap chop better
How are we lookin so far chat
looks great! love the contrast between the grey bark and the fiery red of the blade!
Blades not done yet
Gonna drybrush the bark to highlight better, get the crevices glowing properly
was about to say that a few dashes of like fire dragon bright or some yellows would make it pop properly
I was using the emperor’s sword guide that Duncan made for warhammer 7-odd years ago as a baseline
ah i never really watched any of duncans stuff
i know hes supposed to be good but i prefer trial and error
I unlocked my true power by drinking every citadel contrast paint
Even shyish purple?
ALL of them
Just try not to concentrate too hard you might pop
Or pick up your neighbors house
Already dun that
He drank the current line of it AND army speed painter
I mean technically he was created when a bunch of ancient Psykers jammed their souls together into a singular, radiant oversoul sometime during the BC's
So he wasn't around when proper contrast paints were a thing.
Ochre, sure, but not paint
However I wager the collective shroom intake of those individual psykers would make every single Ork absolutely terrified of humanity should they ever learn of it
I will buy the 400 pack of speed to surpass him
Korne Marine?
Wraithblade all done minus the base
Meganob #1 coming along good
Just need to do the pants, skin, wires and final edge highlights
Although I like the flash gitz yellow colors plan for nob #2 and 3 is to paint them in imperial fists contrast paint then dry brush flash gitz over the top of that
I'm loving how the weapons turned out tho
Still need to do some minor detail work, but I'm pretty happy with how my first Nob turned out
But I think I'll be going back to imp fist contrast paint for next time lol
Or what I may do is get some auberland sunset as a base coat then put a coat of flash gitz on top of that, since trying to use flash gitz as a base coat is near impossible
Averland sunset could be a pretty good paint for yellow base, Rob has an old tutorial on GW yellows https://www.instagram.com/p/BpSb5nzn-PA/?igshid=ZWI2YzEzYmMxYg==
His new stuff is better but the base recipe is the same
I haven't painted in a while and use AK paints, but their sand yellow is excellent if you use a black basecoat
I painted mine Evil Sunz
Need the strength to paint today
That's a lot of paint on your hand
Paint or else I'm coming to your house to talk at you about color theory
And I don't mean the fun parts, I mean the maths
I've been staring at my dark eldar for 2 weeks undecided on a color scheme
It's driving me insane
I'll decide it for you
when I arrive
so you better get to picking
They're so simple to paint but I just don't know what scheme I want to do ðŸ˜
just pick your favorite color as its primary colo
I have too many green models
You cant have enough green models
Well pick a different green for these
Yes
Slapchop is boring, do scumbling instead
So scumbling is basically slapchop except it was invented in the 16th century roughly and is the real name of slapchop, however slapchop only uses the grisaille method while scumbling using various undertones and transparant paint to achieve a greater varience of colors
like dry brushing on an orange for the shadows instead of black
this will give better depth
do you have a video reference
Anyone have any recommendations for varnish finishing coats for your miniatures? I've heard it's something you want to do to prevent chipping and ensure longevity of your paintjobs, but I've also heard horror stories of paintjobs being ruined by by varnishes that either overly dull or overly shiny your miniature, depending on matte or gloss. Spray varnish vs paint-on varnish is also something I'm wondering. Any advice is appreciated!
Smol guy a lot of fun
Its hie I test the thinnees lol
only automotive varnish will prevent chipping, and only high gloss will have a good effect
lost the strength to paint today
So excited to paint Angron, he was a fun build.
very brave to do him not in sub-assembly
Meganob #2
Went with Overland sunset instead of flash gitz as a base. Muuuuuuuch better
Can't wait to see it in 2 years
My third ever miniature painted! Supposed to be guardians of the covenant dark angels successor chapter, as I personally just don’t like default dark angels color scheme because it looks like Christmas colors. Really happy with how this turned out.
Also, are you allowed to play characters, for example the Lion, painted in a successor chapter’s colors, even if lore-wise that character would never be in a successor chapter? If I can I want to do Lion in this same color scheme
Wip for dad's Christmas gift
Just do it mate, your hobby, your models, your rules
Tree
Facts hahaha, gonna really take my time with him.
And my redemptor wip
Literally you can paint them however you like! My girlfriend is painting a squad of rubric marines in black and gold with flower decals on them called the thousand Son-flowers. They don't have to be lore accure as long as they're fun
Cool! It definitely sounds more fun to not be a stickler about lore accurate colors, and just let people be creative.
The best part about warhammer is that there's canonically over a billion planets in the milky way and the imperium has colonized only a million of them
That 99.9% undiscovered space,
There's some nutty stuff out there.
Like the diggaz
Humans who crash landed on an ork world and have been fighting them so long they paint themselves green and take up ork mannerisms
Do you guys know any tips for thinning paints?
Des Boyz lookin' good!
Hold on I have the perfect video for this question
This guide, is perfect for painters of all levels who want to know the secrets to achieving beautiful smooth paint on their miniatures without the use of an airbrush.
It will lead you through step-by-step the process and characteristics I use to thin my water based acrylic paints, in order to achieve flawlessly smooth paint results without an ai...
This video gives you a really good method to not only thin your paint, but WHY it's important to do so
Helped my painting immensely
Like look at this butter smooth basecoat
What I go for is like in the video, mix plant and water until the paint starts to barely spring back on itself
Thx
I just got some paints, thinking about getting into the hobby
It's a lot of fun but what I will say is temper your expectations. You'll see all these great minis online and when your mini doesn't turn out that way its easy to get discouraged
Take your time, and learn with every model, and remember everybody starts somewhere
Duncan rhodes, one of the best warhammer painters started here and now paints incredible stuff
And remember if you mess up all GW models can be safely drowned in isopropyl alcohol and strip the paint off to start again so theses no real pressure
Thousand sonflowers is funny asf
She's gotta have the infernal master either have a big sunflower headdress or have Ahriman in a straight up sundress
She got custom decals for them and everything
She's never painted a mini in her life however before yesterday
I think she did a pretty bang up job
She put some decals on the shoulders too
Damn art majors and their naturally steady hands
She's gonna buy ahriman and paint his base as a sunflower lol
Yooo I didn't even think about that you'd be able to turn all of the discs into sunflowers super easily
She's going NUTS lol
@hollow goblet she calls me every 30 minutes so giddly like "I found this model that I can totally make into a flower motif!"
She great
I love her lol
For her birthday I'm gonna commission an artist she likes to draw her squad tending a garden while the rest of the thousand sun's raze a city in the background
Use distilled or deionized water, most mini painting guides including the one listed will ruin your paint. Take it from someone in the artist paint production industry.
Dont go past a 1:1 mixture, if you have to then get a fluid acrylic not a heavy bodied. If it is a fluid acrylic, then that paint is bad
for hobby paints really dont go past a 1:1 mixture
it'll make them much harder to use because they are low quality paint
Not mine but really cool style
Looking like something from Borderlands
Wet palette. Easy to DIY, easy to clean. You can thin the paint just by moving it around to the consistency you want.
How do i make a wet palette?
Meganob 2 ready to krump the 'umies
Wet some paper towels and place them on a cookie sheet
Alternatively you can get a cheapo one on Amazon for about 10 bucks
Airtight container like Tupperware so you can close the lid and prevent paint from drying. Sponge paper for water absorbing material and parchment paper on top.
Cel shading. Noice.
Still makes me think I'm looking at something intruding from another dimension though and it hurts my head to hold it in my vision
Ye.
The game was cel shaded
What if I used ephrael stern as a daemonhost.
im sad because i want an inquisitorial Henchmen unit in my sororitas army themed after dark tide
but you NEED the daemonhost for that unit and there's no way the sisters would tolerate it
its also meant to be a bodyguard unit for Inquisitor Grayfax
WHAT DO I DO AAAAUGH
i just got my inquisitorial agents in
As long as you mention it to your opponent that she's acting as a host I don't think anyone would mind.
I'm torn between making some sort of sanctioned saint OC using her as the basis for a kitbash
or just doing up a necromunda psyker in the color scheme of a darktide daemonhost
I'll have celestine in the army too so its not like its that unreasonable
Artel W has some neat Daemonhost models.
Cool idea tho
i saw that!! the eisenhorn daemon was so good! a part of me wants to use gw models as the basis though
I need to get mine out of the shame pile 🤣
custodes warden done
Good choice!=]
how it look im open to feed back this is my third painted figure ever
For a 3rd mini!?
Pretty solid! I'd say a few highlights would go far
people keep saying that to me too and idk where to even start trying to highlight
I'm afraid to put paint on the model and ruining it
does a layer paint of gehenna gold work for that because i did that for the belt and i notice it pop but when you compare my first mini im unsure if i should just stick with dry brush silver
The hardest part is just doing it;)
you can always fix it with a touch up of base
but when people say highlight do they mean add a brighter shade to hard corners that are exposed
i had to do that a lot of times with my palatine haha
i saw a guide that was like, if you are new to highlighting take a dark wash and darken the color, then highlight with the base color
was thinking of trying that on my sororitas battle sisters, i dont mind if those arent as pretty
i did what you did with your warden where I started with my characters cause they were more exciting to paint xD
I have a primed greyfax im terrified to touch haha
The "Gw Method" is to highlight the most raised areas with silver. Personally was never a fan. I used multiple washes to get different highlights
to me that silver stuff doesnt make any sense to me would it be better to have a pale gold color because when gold shines it has dark edges
I'd just do retributor gold, darken it with a wash, then a light dry brush of retributor again.
hard corners or straight on?
I was mainly aiming for raised edges. But I eventually swapped to Scale 75s gold paints. I love em so much
i used there blue for the tabard and added a violet shade they are really great
is that a kitbash
Yea it's a Hetaeron guard for heresy. Unit has yet to get a kit
cooler custodes guard wo these look cool
Unit was a nightmare last edition of heresy.
from a rumor scource being a warhammer store owner i know sisters of silence should be getting new models
witch personally i think is needed
I hope so. I hope we get an actual Centura kit.
omg i was so confused about that is the centura just a sister supperior
I almost bought Jenetia Krole to run as a Centura. One day....
i was thinking avout doing that just on the basis of how cool she looks
She's a rad character in books. In heresy currently she's probably the best character duelist in our units
What is this kit/kitbash?
Oh, neat
Not sure if that's your thing but blackstone fortress is a super fun board game with really nice models
I do like board games, I just don't have many people irl to play them with
traitor guard models 👌
Completely understand, always the worst feeling.
Could some pro painter please give me some tips on how to paint these lines. The issue isnt precision, its painting a straight line on a surface with a bend and accounting for the bend.
Ive tried tape, but the surface area of the sword is really hard to stick to and outline. So far the best idea i have had is sticking a tiny amount of tape and using the edge of the tape as a guide for the angle of each line. But its still giving me a result that im not 100 on
One thing to consider is that i have only tied to paint the lines in 2 separate parts connecting to the middle of the sword. Anyone think that maybe treating those lines as a single line might be easier?
Im just really stumped on this
Try and use the edge of your brush to catch the raised bits
I personally cheat and just drybrush it very precisely
or drybrush it on roughly and clean up around it
No, no,no. Not the edge highlight. The lines on the vibroblade
Here is a better pic. Tbf, even the games workshop ones arnt perfrect
I think it's just a matter of practicing painting straight lines
Maybe. I just end up doing a really neat line, then realize it's not straight after I look at the sword from the side. Then I try to correct it and end up making it thicker than I would like. This one was my most recent one with the first highlight.
I just hope that i can make it look better with the other highlights
I did this one ages ago and I hated it so much that I didn't paint for like 2 weeks
I think it looks great!
So I wanna make better looking bases, but all I have is a box of super fine sand. Would buying some fishtank gravel and crishing it up make interesting looking stones?
it would, but why not just go out with a jar and fill it with interesting looking stones?
Probably the last dry fitting before glueing it together and doing the last weathering passes
Arvus Lighters are the loveliest and chunkiest little ships
Smol
Beaky Marines ftw
What legion is that
crimson fists
Crimson fists are a successor of the imperial fists
Also featured in the cover art of 1st edition 40k
ay look at that
those are OLD
I wonder how much those go for now
I completely forgot I bought this to paint
I GOT THE LION
Want them to look like a big flock of tropical birds
Test scheme for cultists
Not sure if I wanna do them all like this or do my normal thing and find 3-4 schemes that play nice together
Need some advice on how to paint the big mek shield generator. It's gonna be a lot of Metallica which i have a bad track record with
These are all the Metallica I've got to work with
My eldar minis on a terrain piece I made from scratch
Liking the look of this so far.
I kinda fucked up and already based the arms in flash gitz yellow and they look so bad but I can't be asked to strip them and start again so they're just gonna be washed in cassandora yellow
Fuck it who cares lol
It looks amazing so far!
It's an ork model do you think they give a shit what yellow you used? They'd see two yellows and go "yep, that's yellow"
And slap both on without a care
So think of it as proper orky
"Does one make the explosions bigger?"
Yes, and the other makes bigger explosions
So I'm building the dark angels combat patrol (but building them as blood angels) if I want to make the primaris intercessors the be they can for the tabletop which options/weapons should I bring? I have 15 other intercessors so making them "best" won't matter because I have others I can make purely for fun
I gave my sergant the chalice from the blood angels upgrade sprue but I'm not sure what to give him in his off hand.
The power sword from the dark angels sprue maybe?
If I recall in 10th edition they changed wysiwig so the weapon attachments don't actually matter
I don't know if that's accurate though, It's just what I keep getting told
Oh okay cool I think chalice in one hand power sword in the other would look pretty imposing
Yeah intercessors have an unified wargear datasheet now, so basically one ranged weapon regardless which options you put on the model
Only the underslung grenade launcher matters and that can be equipped once per 5 models in a unit iirc
The sergeant can choose from a couple melee weapons still
Okay so it doesn't matter what I do as long as one guy has the grenade launcher?
Ye
Okay cool
Finally finished my ork
Not gonna attach his arms yet because I wanna redoem
This paintjob is like a 7.5/10 but the arms are...bad lol
So what's a good way to paint power swords?
This is my sergeant,
I used the firstborn upgrade sprue but my lore for him was that he became a primaris marine after being a firstborn and was dissatisfied with the look of primaris helmets, opting to keep his classic Helmet
Ourple Plasma
Basically saying "I'll take your genetic improvements, but your wargear is trash"
I wish there were more chainsword sprues for fancier marines
Plsma
I actually do stuff like this on purpose with my ksons
If you think about it: not everyone would have joined the legion at the same time, and their gear might not have been painted at the same time and the exact same materials and paint might not have been available, so some of my guys have armour that looks super old and tarnished and sandblasted, some looks way newer and there's like 3-4 shades of blue mixed in there to kinda signal that its a warband that's been around for a while and had to maintain their gear and numbers
Also started building on lore fluff for my guys
They study a particular lore of magic stolen from Slaanesh that focuses on the idea that art is the most potent thing a sorceror can command because it inspires the very emotions that feed power into the warp to begin with
So they have a particular focus on art on music and are fond of the idea that displaying bright colours and playing loud music feeds power back into their magic
Plan on kitbashing some sonic weapons together with rubric weapons and finding some other ways to work the music theme in
Thank you juanHidalgo for a piss easy tutorial :D
Plasma is something I need to do more… when I actually have something that uses plasma
Yeah I bought this solely because of the plasma cannon
I needed a nice contrast colour
Also think I’ll do red-cased chainswords
Those work very well
I have grey/black/gold marines so need colours to highlight
Accent* not highlight
Purple plasma/power swords
The purple works well for that
Csm have so many fancy chainswords. Kitbash
That gloss black on their helmets is such a clean look for Aeldari, love it!
I present to you, I want to hit them with my sword man
nut
Attempt at a Krieg soldier, happy how the red turned out
Tiny pew
As much as I love the "angel of death" look
Dual weildong storm bolters while in the air is kinda silly
if the bolters where smaller itd be a baller look i think
I loved it when Cawl said "it's Cawling time" and Cawled all over the place
Droppods? Nah, fuck that, you're the droppod now buddy
black coat with red accents. alarm alarm
Is that like a bad alarm or?
But... It's a green coat
Looking very nice tho
Thank you 😈
Planning to start krieg for my guard army one day
I love the idea of having guardsmen storming trenches, wanna have a good few ogryns/bullgryns there too
Real shit
I can’t paint flesh yet so I’m staying away from it, just ordered the Age of Darkness box as I adore Horus Heresy stuff, hoping to refine some painting with all the space marines, first crack at a dreadnought and tank too
Painting my dreadnought with a plasma gun even though I've never done plasma before
Would a good way to do it to base coat white/gray, put over pylar glacier contrast paint, then highlight the coils with baharoth blue and dot the tops with white?
Bottom. Not the top. The bottom’s be the hottest bit
JuanHidalgo has good easy plasma tutorials
It’s how I’ve done my purple plasma
Oh okay that makes sense, I'm gonna have the plasma for the main weapon, the galling gun on the fist and I'm sure the little chest launchers won't matter too much
Can anyone think of a good way to proxy Ephilims Pandaemonium in ksons?
I'm thinking of just putting the little guys on the base of my Lord of Change
5 armed goober
Thinking I'll either use the sorceror as my regular ksons sorceror (which there isn't a model for btw) or swap this guy with my exalted sorceror who's on the disc on have all 3 of my foot sorcerors feel like they match
Bc realistically I'll be running disc sorc most of the time if I wanna be competitive and I'd rather it be the cool model
Really not sure what to do with the tzeentch squig and the foot f*tish caster tho
The banned words in this sub are so dumb
I can literally say fuck
Let me mention that people be sucking toes its not like I'm doing it
Having a bit of trouble slotting the legs of the redemptor dreadnought, it just feels like they don't want to go into the hole
No one wants to be in my hole 😔
I don't want to just splash super glue into the hole and slam them together but it just feel like I can't feel them line up
Actual answer, shave does the joints if you have a file
If not then use the side of the clippes
Do it until it feels like it's fitting how you want then figure out the posture you want to glue them in
You didn't accidentally leave a chunk of the sprue on there did you? that's usually the issue when bits don't fit for me
No hold on I'll take a better picture
So the legs have these peg holes
Seems easy
HOWEVER
The lower body has the pegs on the ball joing and the little servo parts I have to line up into the slot under the joint
Whenever I put parts together I always dry fit them. But with this thing I just CANNOT get them to stay put
Seems like one of those things like tzaangor horns where you just can't dry fit them comfortably until glue goes on
Bc the ball joint section looks smaller than the "hip" so it might not fit flush against the sides the way you'd expect
Like there's probably some clearance between the "hip socket" and the other bit
Well they're on
But they're wrong
The legs look way too far back
But that's the only way I could get them to stay on
It probably looks fine once the top half is attached, I imagine there's some overlap
Put the body on and it all imminently fell apart
I give up
I'm so tilted
Guess it's time to break out good old tactical rock
Just cut off the nob and glue it however you want?
At least that’s my way of thinking
Or magnet
Nah fridge
Make sure he don’t melt
You might've messed up the knee joints from what it looks like
But like the other guy said, you can cut the studs off and ignore them
He might end up being in a bit of a squat
Her face was bugging me so I touched it up
Here is my traitor ogryn for my killteam aswell
Real
You could cut off the little guiding blocks to allow different poses
More trouble with the redemptor
I'm trying to attach the arm as shown here
But whenever I insert the arm and try to rotate it into place it doesn't rotate and just mulches that connection piece
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong
It doesnt slot in and rotate freely? have you accidentally used the one from the other side?, any burrs on the contact surfaces?
Is it deep enough?
I had this!!!! You want to clip the inside of the tabs
That worked for me
The redemptor is a 6 year old kit it’s not the best
I honestly love the redemptor kit, had so much fun with it when it released
Movable limbs and all!
Easily exchangeable weapons!
Big!
FINALLY FUCKING GOT IT
The tao!
But I have to put a rock under his heel so he doesn't fall over, so my question is this. Do I base before or after I glue my model down?
I usually just have a bucket of fine sand, extra coarse sand and rocks and mix that into pva glue but I don't know weather they should be On the base before or after
meow
what legion is that
The backstreet boys
no way

How did I do?
good
You should give them to me
such a cool model
Techno wizard
This has reminded me, I need to get a new Farsight model to paint up like V1 Ultrakill
Don’t remember if I shared it here already but am to proud of this guy to really care. Here’s my lamenter term librarian
Looking good so far!
Agreed, you are one suicidal bastard though
Oh yeah. Though using contrast paint was the best decision I ever fucking made
Iyaanden yellow has saved my sanity
Time it is
First part I’ve ever painted
Bam another one
Custom
GYATTT
I respect you for painting that mass, must have been a pain in the ass
Not so much, actually it was my dream for a long time to paint Belisarius or some other mechanicus, and finally doing it was very fun and exciting to be honest.
Hell yeah, I respect that. My hands are far too shaky for the amount of stuff on him
I wanna get the other tech proest
Priest
But anyways, good ass job

Yar
Would painting the redemptor with blood angels red contrast work? Or will it look bad on all the flat panels
It’s actually not that bad
It’s a bit annoying but it doesn’t even need to be perfect, just good enough
contrast works well on smaller minis on walkers and stuff with lots of flat pannels it looks bad very splochy
I see, I guess I'm gonna need a whole new pot of mephiston red lol
you could start with a base of contrast but I would recomend using something to layer on top
Oh yeah what i usually do for all my blood angels is slap on a thick layer of contrast then drybrush mephiston red over that to even it out
Turns out like this
Looks a little textured in the paint but that's because these are old models and I used subpar primer and slapchopped too hard
reinforcing my grey knights with junkie
Dude looks cool
Reminds me of that one mini in the head statue
Don’t really know the name but he’s a sniper
I agree with the grey skin xD, fuck painting that shit
Real
It doesn't have to be good, just good enough.
Gettin' some Boyz up in 'ere!
I can’t put my finger on it but something is off about my knight (would it be legal to use this in an army as a stand in knight this is a joke post by the way)
Yeah this I LOVE about it, mine fit without glue really snug so it’s clean as all hell. I did glue the hand weapon tho
depends, sometimes you will see joytoy characters on the field so i guess anything is possible
Arvus Lighter
Is that blueish hue on the inside painted on or is that a diffused LED?
It's just the lighting on the side bouncing back from the inside 😄
It's painted white, no extra LEDs
I don't understand, but really cool model nonetheless
Thanks
god that burner staining is AMAZING
Chaos knight go brrrr
So I wanna do something silly with my dreadnought but I need help finding a part
I had the idea of in the power claw he has a chaingun attached to it. So I wanted to make an ork boy that it looks like its crushing him in the claw as a shield and shooting his chaingun through the orks body, I've been looking but I can't find a good gun effect part to put on the orks back like he's being blasted through. Anybody know any good places to order those?
I know https://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/ has some firing effects, maybe they'll have something
Anvil Industry makes high quality resin 28mm heroic scale sci-fi wargaming miniatures.
Thanks!
Excited to try diorama work for once
I have a feeling this is going to look really good or really bad
But I can always just buy an old ork boy, soak him in acetone so he comes apart and then use glue and miliputt to put him in a better pose
It'd be cheaper to do that
Plus, I think for diorama work you'll have to do plenty of custom stuff
Yeah but the one part that's gonna sell it is that gunfire effect ripping through his torso
But I'll see when it comes to that. The dreadnought isn't even finished yet
But I did watch that eob video about using plastic rods as small shell casings, probably gonna do that tonight
I want the dread to look like one that's been around a WHILE I'm gonna damage it up pretty well,
Dremel out some deep indents and bullet holes in the armor, broken lenses, tarnished metal and burnt weapons muzzles
Do dreads rust?
What chapter is it for?
Don't Blood Angels put more of an emphasis on artifice?
Yeah thats what I'm torn with. I'm still writing his lore
I'm thinking you'd wnat to convey that the dread is an ancient machine, but without it just being in a state of disrepair
But I don't know how to quite do that without just blinging it out
Exactly, it's ancient but it wasn't abandoned
That's just my thoughts though, I't your army
I'm practicing my flowery letters all blood angels stuff has
My handwriting is terrible however
But I want his shoulder to Say "Semper Fide Invicta" in that Gothic script
Kaboom
For the terminator squad does it matter which melee weapon I bring? Some have chainswords on their power fists, some have bare power fists and it looks like one has a flamer or something
Ahh Damn so I can only choose 1 heavy weapon?
If the squad is less than 10 models then yeah
Yeah I only have 5 right now
the addendum is so funny though
Yeah, weirdly written
i can totally see a guy trying to pull up to a table with a terminator with an infinite amount of cyclone missile launchers

and 1 storm bolter!
I texted my guy who runs the LGS scene and he told me that I can put whatever I want on my models I just have to specify pregame who has what
Like "the guy with the flamer just has a storm bolter and everyone else has their power fists instead of swords
Thank God, because I love painting missile launchers
Yeah usually with friends and local groups WYSIWYG isn't that important
But at least I like to keep it as close as possible
I don't think I'll ever be doing tournaments, I can't afford that much plastic lol
Should I prepare myself for pain or enjoyment?
I never painted a PM before.
Just the standard CSM, berzerkers and rubricae.
Is there a reason that the other combat patrols aren't push fit but the orks is?
Is it because GW thinks that ork players can't be trusted nit to huff the glue?
Combat patrols are generally from sprues that can have multiple units in single sprue from a larger release repackaged from another release
And those often are push to fit for a better fit on a single sprue
Out of curiosity, what would a tau combat patrol cost me, can i just use the box or is that more of a starter set?
I just need an excuse to use crisis suits without building a whole army
i think the combat patrols are around $120~
Yeah i just wasnt sure if one combat patrol box is the ideal combat patrol
Or if u gotta buy like 3 different boxes to swap out a handful of units
Ima be getting the imperial guard combat patrol soon, just waiting on my Estonian krieg heads to show to do the first couple guardsman
Mmm yes, craig
Craigsman
It was crazy to me how easy they are to paint
Compared to my other minis i did all 10 in like 2 days
Probably 8-10 hours altogether
I’m just waiting for payday and then I’ll be doing some krieg guardsman as well as a kitbashed navy breachers to use as engineers
Spent so long trying to figure out what to give my command squad from the cadian box set when I get the combat patrol though
I havnt even played kill team yet and im already looking into combat patrol
Love it
Thnx
I’m just making a kill team out of it so it means I can play with my guard quicker
Gonna use the krieg kill team box for some grenadiers which will be used as kasrkin
And just some random guardsman that I’ll make funky for a veteran kill team
I really dislike the banner bearer in the cadian command set lol
I never considered kitbashing vetguard kasrkin
The vet guard I suppose are the easy ones because you can do them with any models
I’m also gonna try having a textured base army for the first time!
Gonna start with the kill team itself to get it down but last few times I tried it it just never really sat right with me
I saw something about rules updates and kasrkin can just sttaight up delete elites now?
How's this for a smelly boy?
Very sticky looking
So... Fitting?
Yes
Tbh tho i think the green could be a little more pale, he looks kinda like a salamander
Salamanders are brighter.
Are they?
It reminds me more of the Dark Angel green than the Salamander green.
Now that I look at it.
I really like how the copper/dirty gold turned out.
I don't know if I'll be making a DG army, though. Seeing as I'm already invested in my WB army.
Ew word bearers
They'll be joined by a squad of havocs and a helbrute soon.
Got my Infiltrators primed!
First time priming so still getting the hang of it, bit worried how the paint is gonna settle
gross
These look good! Paint should adhere fine as long as you don't over do it
I prime with black spray paint
I just perfer black since it can work as shadowing in areas my brush wont reach
I should really get an airbrush
Great to hear!
I need a fancy one that doesn't need an air tank or anything
I got an air brush a long time ago and try to hook up an air pig to it without a regulator.
Needless to say that air brush doesn't work anymore.
all of them need one
unless you want one where you blow into it yourself
those also exist
Lol
I meant one that came with its own system.
Or you can hook the pressurized cans too.
I don't know much about air brushes
Does anyone know a cheat way to get Ephilim's Pandaemonium without buying the fuckin warcry box?
those you really dont want, they are terrible
I figured
the handheld tank ones, hobbiests love them but I have been to the hospital 3 times while testing them
I just dont know exactly what a good airbrush is, thats still affordable
O
they are only made by low end chinese brands for a reason
one of them almost caused me to lose a finger
the lithium ion battery exploded
got third degree burns on another one
damn!
i just feel like i should have an airbrush for stuff like vehicles and mechs
primarily tau
and a small amount of legions imperialis
Is this the kind ur talking about?
yeah, the airbrush is garbage, the pump is loud, they have no moisture trap(which yeah you can get an external one, but those produce more moisture than a normal pump), and just over all low quality
oofda
well thanks for that i was looking at this one
do you have any reccomendations that dont break the bank
or my hand
This is around the same one I have
Thats not bad at all
It's not perfect, but works well enough for priming and base coating
Not super percise or what?
Mine isnt very precise, so I have to use plenty of tape
Oof
But you can always upgrade the brush itself later on
True
try different needles and nozzles for tighter spray patterns
I do mostly want it for larger surfaces and effects
It should work fine for that
Hell yeah
I mostly got mine cause the weather where I live is usually bad for rattle cans most of the year
Ah, i just feel bad using spray paint
Beware, airbrush primers are usually not as strong as rattle can primers
at least in my experience
I probably wont get it ubtill i commit to a cambat patrol or something
Peeling tape off just for all the paint to come off with it is a terrible time
That is a huge feels bad moment
My box arrived : )
My girlfriend comes home today and launches this at me and says in her best ork voice "merry early Grotmas, ya git!"
I'm gonna marry this woman
Real
I love Christmas time because I get to buy her things too and she can't say no!
Could you use super thin gold foil for gold armor
Like Gold leaf?
I wouldn't
It's super delicate so it'll flake off all the time
The smol bois
if you want precision.... there are only a few options
Oh i dont really need percision
i use a gaahleri for my priming
works fine in a pinch
was $30 on sale
I have 6 pumps, 3 high end and 3 cheapo
one is from harbor freight and works fine
I also have I think 60 airbrushes now
Marry her faster ya git!
I'll just say that I really don't know enough to have an opinion one way or the other
@plush swift tag in
No offense, but you dont have the skill, the money, the time, or the tools for gold leaf.
Most people do it so insanely wrong that it will just fall off
You need an agate burnisher, a squirrel hair brush, and several other tools
the tools alone to do it will cost you $300+
and then, its super fragile and will flake apart if you breathe on it
Aka, GIT GUD
Yeah I'm pretty happy with it, need to layer my contrast paint better so doesn't look so uh "Painting"-esque
@plush swift this video makes it seem doable with faux gold leaf and a few things

Our gym owner wants me to paint one of those gray space marine Action figures for our front desk after I showed him some of the stuff I've done recently
Feels good to have people actually think My work is good
might get some space marines and and come back to my sister when i get better
I also have a knight on its way so I want to save my paints for that
oh yea!!
i had a guy ship me some kind of dreadnought by accident
i haven't gone through the pieces to figure out what it is but the feet tell me its a dreadnought
well idk how much a whatever model it is costs
but it was supposed to be some sisters of silence
for a crusader kitbash
(idk why but i keep coming up with kitbash ideas and I'm a total newbie at this hobby)
Kitbashing sounds so fun I’m nervous of destroying a model
yea, but the possibility of cool results...
True
i get home in 15 minutes, i suppose i can look at it and try to figure out what it is
i want to make some female crusaders
and an ephrael stern converted into a daemonhost
Traitor sisters would be cool
the reason is i have a unit that has a daemonhost in it
in my SISTERS army
so I'm gonna make her like a holy sanctioned saint
glowing golden eyes, chains and maybe see if i can work wings under the cape
That sounds sick
jesus fuck that is terrible application of gold leaf, that literally makes my skin crawl. There is a reason why I get paid close to $250 an hour for gold leafing and $400 for damascene, I dont mean to insult the person but thats really really bad
It's just aluminum foil 🤷
there is still a proper technique to it
🤷
there is no burshing either which is required even for fake gold leaf
What’s the upsides of using gold leaf
Why not use gold paint or something
it looks way better
you cant match actual foil in terms of the looks
gold paint rarely looks gold as its rarely ever gold, the only gold paint is gold shell and thats $75+ for a 1ml bottle
Ive never had that much of a visceral reaction here, i apologize
Ive spent almost 2 decades mastering a craft and I get very annoyed quickly at that stuff it seems
Gold leaf jump scare
got super pissed at plasmo even though that was hilarious
fuck it
im buying a custodes army
I have enough gold leaf here for 15k points
💀
Did that video bother you that much
for some reason yes
this is why being a professional is terrible
You can only ever see the flaws in everything never the good
That sounds shitty
