people dont break into my house, the most expensive thing I own thats clearly of value is my car and thats $8000~
and its a hearse with a coffin in the back
the coffin is just a wooden box with art supplies in it
its not actually a coffin, its just funnier to call it one
Imma just break in and swap all your paints with scale 75
I will sue you
Not if I do it first
I'm calling my lawyer
😇
I am your lawyer and your getting sued
objection, my lawyer isnt a snail or a man
been wearing a disguise
@plush swift lol after the holidays I'll take you up on that
I was thinking of buying the ork combat patrol, I wanna actually start playing and orks look fun
orks are rarely competitive, but they are more fun
and people generally like playing against ork players
That's my wheelhouse lol
this is what i hear at least
Will I win? No. Will I have fun? Absolutely
Im tempted to get a bunch of the ork models with squigs and just not building the orks so I can get an army of squigs
Damn are they the Legendary Henchmen featured from Warhammer 40k: Darktide Series?
thats very cool
Took a break from my regular scheduled armies to try a World Eater.
nyc is amazing, complaining is just a new Yorker hobby lmao
AMAZING!!!!
Thanks!
I really want to do something similar but I've been collecting the parts really slowly
Ive got a novitiates kit, a exaction squad kit and I have inquisition agents kill team box coming
Nice! I thought the inquisition killteam was hard to get
I believe so yes, I bought the single mini of ebay, but I’m pretty sure that head was on the box art for the bullgryns
And the same one with the goggles which is a pretty cool cosmetic in game
yea i noticed that haha
It was mostly finding the models on eBay that was tough, the only one I had to make was the zealot. I saw one zealot model that the game obviously used as inspiration but it was really old and didn’t look good next to the newer models
The zealot I made was the top half of a sister repentia and the legs of a khorne jackle (specifically the free mini of the month one)
i recognized the repentia but i didn't realize it had different legs
is this the one you are talking about?
astra militarum preacher
Yeah that’s the one! Didn’t quite fit in
Sounds like them
NY is ass, total tourist trap, only reason anyone gives a shit about it is because huge portions of the entertainment industry hire exclusively out of New York, if you aren't a succesful musician or comedian New York is genuinely one of the worst places you could possibly live
Source I'm a musician and have had 2 seperate friends move there and both confirm its dirty expensive and all round unpleasant
Also something I can confirm firsthand
You think PARIS stinks like piss?? you ain't ready for NY
ahhh, nyc summer garbage smell
NYC is the main culinary hub of the US as well, so great food of all flavors. Its a city of immigrants so lots of great slices of culture from all over the world. yea its dirty, but its also filled with so much life
idk i love NYC, i was away for years and I couldnt wait to move back. i live in queens now and its great. everything is walkable, i dont need to own a car
only thing is the rent is expensive, i could probably have a whole ass house somewhere thats not a city for what im paying rn
NERD
I AINT READING THAT
Getting some minis ready for a small beginner 40k event coming up.
My army is basically the enemies of Darktide, but more swampy/natural and less industrial.
I'll try to post more when I get them done, I have a traitor commissar and baby plague ogryn being worked on. Still trying to git gud at painting, big vehicles are hard.
youre new at this???
I did play when I was a kid, but that was me slathering thick paint onto an unprimed model (and 90 percent of army was still grey plastic)
So these guys are the first squad I painted as a developed brain adult (did one plague marine as a test scheme)
I'll see if I can find the pic of plague marine
I was a bit more careful on this guy
Credits also go to an ex GW employee who gave me some good painting advice before I started getting more into it
As you can see there is a sea of grey plastic behind, it's hard to stay motivated to keep painting is my problem
Those are amazing!
Ayy thanks I very much appreciate that!
Sub base? Lol
yea there is a navy sub base out there lol
No there isn't
wait bangor maine not bangor washington lmao
Lol
There is 2 national guard based, Bangor is basically the "last gas station before the Middle East" military-civilian airport
Lots of flights during Iraq and Afghanistan had troops lay over here
Fun fact, one of the only airports that handles both the smallest and largest aircraft in the world on the same runway. Regular see Cesnas and such take of but also used to have the Antonov Mriya occasionally to carry some super special thing that the GE shop had fabricayed
I love seeing the big cargo planes. Got to see a C-130 Hercules do a low flyover at the defence academy open day (Aus). Man those props are loud af.
love em
My first admech model, how'd i do?
why do I feel like he's about to tell me to witness something
(Not mine)
Want
Have y'all seen the vid where midwinter puts 100 coats of paint onto minis?
looks like a clean version of that lol
Unironically really wanna try and do 100 coats of runefang to get a T-1000 terminator style finish on some Necrons, I have a friend who's getting into the hobby and likes Crons because they grew up watching the terminator movies I might just grab one and kinda test paint it for them
Beginning of basing :3
Painted some more dnd minis to get back into the swing of things
Also has anyone built the new commander Dante mini? How is it? From the promo pictures he looks a little fragile
What sort of colors or theme you going for?
he is fragile
Bummer, mephiston it is then
Anybody with experience in airbrushes, do you know of a good reasonably priced one for a beginner? I've heard good things about the accessbility of the Ultra 2024
I mean thats one that you'd buy and never upgrade
Is that a good thing
yes

there isnt much of a point of you getting something like a custom micron and things like that
I really just need one for vehicles to be honest. I have a lot and am getting more
I've just heard going cheap on an airbrush is a bad idea
for the most part yeah
the gaahleri stuff isnt bad
and cost nothing
but they also have a better nozzle system than other cheap airbrushes
I might get the ultra 2024 soon to compliment my infinity
its just easier to swap between two detail airbrushes than constantly swap the colors out
there was a lot more to airbrushes than I had considered after looking into it, I'm definitely gonna wait for a bit before trying one out
Last time I used an airbrush it disliked me

I’m assuming there’s an ork there due to the waagh
that is correct
That’s good, must be sneaky can’t see him
lol
ehh there isnt that much
i hope i did alright with the visor glow
Looks good to me
Going to make it an asphalt road
@short pawn https://www.youtube.com/@theartworkshop look at this guys videos about air brush stuff
Will do
I'll be honest, it didnt read as glow
what could i do to make it better
dial it back, and glaze it
you want the glow to basically be a color filter over what you painted
paint transparently
thanks for the tip
Like night and day! That is a good model
Was super pumped for that new ksons librarian mini from horus heresy but of course it's mcfucking RESIN
I've already broken enough tzaangor axes to know that Sauron-ass mace staff isn't gonna survive it's first venture out of the house
I sorta wish GW would just stop using Resin at this point, I've never had a resin model from GW survive
Real honestly \
Apparently they're working on phasing out forge world stuff and replacing it in plastic soon
but soon for GW could easily mean by the time I'm on my second mortage
That was a funny little joke about the ridiculous fantasy that I might own property one day
what fun
millennials laughing all the way to the fiery pits of renting to the grave
Hoping we get Fulgrim before I get my first prostate exam 🤞
Imagine being able to afford rent
Found some of my old minis. Was nice to set them up like a battle.
Paying 500 dollarydoos a fortnite to rent a bedroom in someones house gang
And it's failing to send images on Mobile?
i think its a nudiscord thing
Disc got a big mobile update a few days ago probably some fuckery
Hmm. I'll check for extra updates

Is everyone's weather just on it's period rn?
We're getting like thunderstorms
But its also 38 fucking degrees celcius
Which is exactly as pleasant as it sounds
Castellen or Command Leader?
Yeee
Sergeant
Nice! Looks good!
Selling a bunch of my gundams and I think whenever do I'm gonna buy the ork combat patrol
So I can finally play the game lol
Gangster, I’m finishing up my DG army set up
Finally got back to painting miniatures
And to start somewhere I just ordered 5 combat engineers from station forge’s grim guard catalog
Do you own a stake in them or something? Most corpo sentence I've ever read
they look grumpy lol
Wdym? (Sorry, English isn’t my first language)
I might be losing the plot, but what you said reads like a beginning of every YouTube sponsor segment
Oh
Nah I just wanted to share the minis I just bought lol
But I’m still not sure about the colors I’m gonna use
I was thinking about painting them with yellow uniforms and black armor pieces
Or maybe paint them only using yellow (and brown for the other parts obviously)
Paint them pink
I was even thinking about painting them red, call them fire fighters (in German since we are talking about krieg era) and get a lot of heavy flamers
Its a cool set non the less I'm sure whatever you settle on you'll make them look sweet
Im also looking forward to get some proxies that could blend in really well with the “aesthetics” of kriegers
For example I found this thing that could replace the taurox if I eventually decide to buy some
Isn't that literally the SdKfz 251
Yeah
It’s the one from grim prints
Btw now im going to bed
(It’s 3:30 AM here 💀💀)
I dont have any minis or models or anything like that
But I got this guy right here
Chaos Boy preachin dat word
Trying to sell my gundam collection to buy more warhammer
Quite difficult
It's hard to unload 60 model kits at one time lol
Is the dark angels combat patrol better for blood angels than the blood angels box is?
anything is better than the blood angels combat patrol for blood angels sadly
prob not true actually. but from what ive seen from marines when helping my friend build their blood angels list i recommend the dark angels box for sure
WE CAN SAVE DA GIT! GET DA DOK!
I can make you feel less jealous by showing you my redemptor dreadnought
Fantastic work, no doubt. I was just wondering, isn't the executioner's sword flat, making it less stabby and more slashy?
@midnight cairn it’s one of the Black Swords the Emperors Champions use. Has a nice point like a hand-and-half sword.
Ah, my mistake then 🙂
Needs more dakka!

Also is that forge world??
yes
Ayo

You just got them?
had
No
Ohhh grenadiers right?
mhm
Its a Legacy Army
Ohhh fair
You using all forge world then?
Or gonna mix in some new plastic krieg?
The new stuff is okay bought a set but it feels to.... Smooth?
yeah
Like it’s brand new?
its the plastic vs resin look
Plastic is pretty easy to get the worn/used look
Resin just pains me to even harm it
Can’t take a screw set to a resin mini any day
Plastic, I will chop that Mf like mince beef
Its not like its even an Ego thing. i Generally like the Resin prints more
the newer plastic models are honestly great but feel like are to cadian
Not wrong but the killteam bits are amazing
they are
Ok, I'm clearly not as good as many of yall here are, but I wanted to share my grey knight chaplain, because it's the first model I painted without a guide with some spare parts here and there and I'm pretty proud of it. Also, any tips on how to correct/improve it would be welcome, it's like the 25th mini I've ever painted in my whole life and I don't have the best tools to work with
Bro it looks sick
Nah mate, look at the level of polish of the minis in this channel
I'm clearly lacking something
they look decent, really. don't be that harsh on yourself. what you lack is just experience. there are many guides on yt to get better. for now, some really basic advice will help you like, cleaning your mold lines, thinning your paint, edge highlighting and try to get your hands on washes and contrast paints
keep posting btw, there are many posters like me just doing their best with eeh results but it shouldn't stop you from being proud of your work
👍
Gotcha, just a quick question, you want me to wash the mini?
Like with water?
nope, it's a type of paint / technique with more transparent and low viscosity paint flowing into recesses and shading the mini. shading / highlighting helps a lot with readability
Mhmm that would've been useful on the head of the chaplain I bet
To make it look less like a while paste and more clean looking
OK, I'm gonna look up some of that online
That cape looks sick dude
Thx
Now we can ride in style
yessss giant robits
Man U could’ve bought grim guard ones
Way cheaper and higher definition
For the collection
Fair enough then
Oh look, another Terryn enjoyer
My father has like 14 Armiger class , 4 questoris class and 1 dominus
Almost all of them painted with the terryn color scheme
Terryn paint scheme is so good!
anyone know any female heads with one eye bionic?
I'm sure the Sisters of Battle do. Doesn't the... Hospitaliter have one?
Or do you mean for 3d printing?
Hey I've seen that somewhere before
Of course you did, you wouldn’t let me put it behind your knight picture
Because he's not a knight
Although that change in lighting makes them look real good
Still advocating that green lenses
Might alternate between green and orange
Might use it to distinguish the squad lol
The orange kinda blends into the gold a smidge
Little bit but looks good either way
Oh for sure
I dropped one of mine lol, so I'll have a go at painting him up for the armiger
Knob
His arms fell off
That would’ve been great for me earlier lol
Makes it a bit simpler
Yeah that hotshot lasgun gets in the way a lot
Oh and his head come off, man I did not put these together well lol
Yeah you didn’t use much glue
Ah well, in this case that's a good thing
True
See what poses I can get from these scions for the bases
Gonna see about swapping the coms guys over to a more standing pose
But I think all I need is thunderhawk blue as the main colour?
Yup
Someone call for an earthshaker?
Love the uniform
I'm wondering about the idea of building a basilisk but with HH marine crew?
going for a legion basilisk squad
I wish there were more crewmembers on the kit
Also there was an error on the instruction book lmao
Apparently they never corrected it
Oh I love the instruction book where the leman russ turret has sunk into the hull
Lol! Havent seen that one
Jagdruss
You get one in the Sororitas combat patrol and there are like two or three heads with a bionic eye in a box of Battle Sisters
i didnt see one in my combat patrol ill have to check again
It's number 92, it's hair is blowing in the wind
Sorry, I’m more into “non-self-propelled- howitzers
This one for example
Book man is done
Just started my World Eaters army, and my wife just finished her Sanguinary guard and Mephiston.
They're mushrooms, so any recipe for mushrooms amped up to account for the fact-
Oh.
You mean for painting their skin
I have no idea, in that case.
He probably reading nothing new on the western front
I heard if I'm planning to buy the blood angels combat patrol box that the dark angels box is actually better. Is that true?
The only real difference beside the models that you the in the different chapter combat patrols is the you get some upgrade sprues for your specific chapter
If you want to play "Blood Angels," buy the blood angels box, as you'll get a better deal on the combo with the ungrade sprues. If you want raw stats, and don't mind forking over some extra dough, buy the Dark Angels box and a couple of Blood angels upgrade sprues.
It comes down to preference tbh, but in terms of what's "meta" I guess the Dark Angel box is better because Inceptors and Redemptors are pretty hot right now
If you're completely new to 40k, don't even bother caring about the Meta anytime soon. Focus on learning with what appeals to you thematically, and tweak things over time.
Because chances are, by the time you get a full army up and going, the meta will have shifted.
Yea, my advice would be to get what you think is cool
Meta chasing comes later, when you have most of what you enjoy, and can more easily swap out new things into the mix without having a full army build/paint project before you're viable.
Alright, it may just come down to whatever my lgs has in stock lol
And I'll need the book too yeah?
What book?
If it's the Blood Angel codex, no you don't need it. It's for the previous edition.
Well if it's any Codex or rulebook, just make sure it's for 10th edition, there's still a lot of 9th edition stuff around people are trying to sell, they can have some cool lore stuff, but the rules and stats don't transfer over to the new edition.
I have a blood angels book but I got it in February so it may be outdated
And that's the only book I have
I don’t know if I should play rouge traders or paint
Does anybody have any recommendations for kitbashing Mordian Iron Guard?
ISO harlquinn jester heads with those cute lil jester hats.
Plasma gunner done
Just got $900 store credit at lgs for trading in games
Botta go on a plastic Crack binge
dont forget paints too
My plan is this
2 combat patrols
A few supplementary models
Ghazgul
Mephiston
Leviathan box
200 dollars on paint
I am frothing at the mouth to spend this
jesus how many games did you trade in
Many
Not including some ds game and a mint condition gba
Every year at the end of the year I go through, grab every game I haven't played in 6 months and trade em in
WIP 9/10 infiltrators conpleted minus basing
Yooo holy shit dragons!
Theyve been my main comissions lately
Oh nice I recognize some of the minis but what companies are they mostly from?
Some are nolzurrs some are 3d resin prints I get from my sculptor
@mint dove for paints the use (vallejo air) Black, Burnt Umber, Gory Red, Bloody Red, Orange Red (main armor). (AK interactive) Black, Rubber Black, Dark Grey, Light Grey, Brown, Off white, Beige, basic skin tone, light flesh, along with their wash sets. Metallics I use Vallejo liquid gold. Old Gold mostly. Vallejo gunmetal grey and Vallejo silver. Main armor wash is Mr Hobby Black.
I like to base with a simple verdaccio and then glaze a cinabrase over that, then do some phthalo green yellow shadow glazing over that all
i creates a ton of depth and only takes a few minutes
basically base with chromium oxide, put red iron oxide in the shadows, then cover in a transparent green
Man I wish my local gamestore did video game trade ins!
I still have all my ps2/xbox 360/xbox one games
I cant wait to paint these goobers
There is now 2!
wooo
chat idk what to do. Do i:
Build a dreadnought
Go over the plasma on my older minis and spice them up
Paint a bladeguard I have primed
Prime and paint a spirit of durthu
im gonna do 2 and 3
I know they aren't in the game (still) but here is one of my new farseers
DREADNOUGHT
BIG BOX BOI OF GREATNESS
I want that sexy fuckin PLASMA
anyway the GW guys were 1000000% right purple fucking RIPS as plasma/power sword energy for grey-armoured SM's
Dreadnought has plasma ;3
i know
damn i wish i could buy a dreadnought rn
Slight progress
Nice job, is that head part of the standard sprue or is it from somewhere else?
Cadian upgrade sprue
I feel that bad clipping on the left shoulder in my soul
did that a lot when I started
Battle damage
might I suggest getting a set of fine files, that way you can file down these imperfections
Sure I guess.
Got it, thanks
Apothecary finally finished
Drybrushed some black here and there, in the hopes it would look like soot. From burnin stuff all the time
So im planning to start doing blends on my marine shin pads/boots like gw does with theirs. Could someone recommend a colour to use when my base is eshin grey?
im talking about something like this btw
Tomorrow will be testing dot filtering for the first time
For the Ultramarines I'm pretty sure they use quite a bit thinned down Rhinox Hide just glazed on the blue. Could try something similar
Curious as to how long you've been painting, you have some of the best paintjobs I have ever seen in my life like seriously
Oh wow thanks. Actively I've been painting about 6 years now but I dabbled in Warhammer painting in 2007-2008 as well but didn't really do it for a good while. Returned to the hobby around the end of 2017
My pace has slowed a lot, I pushed out a full 2000 point Ultramarine army in like two or three months when I started again, now I barely get a single model/kit done in a month
Sick
Cheers!
Oh hell yeah, a Thunderhawk
Hidden in the corner 😔
waiting for the right moment
Alright, thats what came to my mind first but wanted to get some opinions. Thanks!
I'm so glad it's now possible to paint a thunderhawk at a reasonable scale/price 😂
Kudos on getting that done
Dare i ask how much money is on those shelves
.not sure
i would guess 10k
Good god
Here i am barely scraping together some kill team stuff with my friends help
I'm currently at 3.1 k battle ready Black Templars... Stripped some old minis of mine so i get 3x 5 marine crusader squads, 1x scout squad and a imperial Space Marine kitbash... with that im nearly on 3.5k Black Templars... Then still 5 Infernus Marines, 1x Cap in termie armor, 1x combi weapon lieutenant and apothecarius biologis left... so i should have soonish about what? 3.8k? Black Templars battle ready? Those minis should have a worth of about 🤔 ca. 800 € ?
(Just clarify, this isn’t mine, I didn’t paint this)
Does anyone know specific steps to go about creating an eye glow effect like the one seen on this model? This is one of the most striking and convincing I’ve seen, and I’d love to be able to reproduce this effect
Some white, contrast paint and some glow color i think
I'd follow some of the steps in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X3nfKwaFRI video, the mini seems like a decent to good portrayal of a light source on a mini
thanks!
thats an investment holy hell
Time for a new knight :3
he's just a little guy man
Yes, smol boi
Do these read as purple plasma/power??
Trying to work out how best to do the blue
Sorry no wrong word entirely
Swords
Not blue
Like do I make the tip of the sword dark or do I make the edges dark and the inside warmer
I undrukharied your Drukhari (dark skinned elves ftw, fite me)
That's crazy how did you get Brendan Lee Mulligan in your army
we’re so fucking back
this is the proudest ive ever been on a model
@plush swift you never said if the glow was improved or not
is it?
Idk who that is, but I agree
Its this guy, he's a voice actor and kind of a "dnd celebrity" I guess would be the best way to describe
I can see it actually
First Krieg done, might not be traditional colors but holy moly do I love how it turned out
The myth the man the legend
No way is that Gabriel Angelos, smasher of Eldar?
It is from dawn of war 3
Super elder smasher bro’s 3D land?
Guess he was printed but it s resin so the detail is good
There was once a FW character Series of Gabriel Angelos...
There it is:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/07/28/from-dawn-of-war-to-your-tabletop-get-gabriel-angelos-today/
but i think they stopped producing him.
And in Thunderhawk it should be this 3d model:
(Was an Etsy sell that currently is not anymore availiable)
I made him and his name is bill
When you don't have enough assault in your assault marine?
Correct
could be a tzeentch marine
It's an assault to my eyes
the Asssssault interseser
Looks like an abomination out of "the Forest" or SOTF xD
better
looks like very thinned down red for the area around and then different layers of red>orange>white becoming smaller with every layer
looks like white line on the lens and red glaze all over and photoshop
i need to spice up the bases and apply the transfer sheet but i'll do that in a batch when i paint the whole combat patrol
Looking good!
5 more varlets..
that photo has been editted, but yeah you can get a similar effect easily.
Base coat white, put on a layer of pr264 or some dark red, mix red with white and but a line down it, then glaze a very thin layer of something like naphtol red over it. edge highlight with pyrrole red
Hope I did a good job at smoothing the bolts for my mk6
Still have no idea what legion/chapter I’m gonna paint them
Might pick world eaters cause of their pre heresy colors
No, shitty glue job though
Ugh, too cold to prime. 48 degrees
Snoopy woke up and chose violence
Didn't manage to finish the dot filters today but it's shaping up nicely. Turned out a bit more warm toned than I set out to do but oh well
It's an absolute joy to watch your projects. Kudos!

I'm rich (in plastic)
Painting the orks as badmoons cuz they da best and richest orkz
atta' git
Cheers!
My version of captain wulfer in plastic flesh
clever conversion!
Hmmm, I wonder if the Dark Mechanicum is gonna get an army
They're featured seemingly standalone in the newest Dawn of Fire book, chaos skitarii and all
I'd prefer GW actually finish the armies they start without shitting out new ones every 6 months (khm khm votann and world eaters)
Who would think that GW themselves would have a pile of shame
Also I fear that dark mechanicum is just gonna be chaos knights 2.0
Just normal mechanicum with spikes
dont forget magic, andd more confusing rules
I think it'll be exactly that if they do
Maybe they just release "upgrade kits" to be applied to existing skitarii
I wanna see what vashtorr’s up to
Captain Wulfer , and the twins
Now what to do with the cockpit
Great conversion!
...
So monetary decisions are not my strong suit
Question, is it wise to keep arms and guns off a model's torso to ease painting? or is it fine to just paint with that on. just felt it'd be a little hard to reach?
If people cant see it it's generally fine
Plus if you prime black it's just like a shadow at that point
ok so do I prime without arms and stuff on first?
You prime in full or sub assembly
Infantry I find personally I do in full assembly and elite/character units in sub assembly as applicable
It depends on the mini for me, some are ok fully built, others create weird hard to reach areas as you said
and yes, then I prime without arms, but with blu tack or similar on the future points of contact, so that I don't have to scrape paint to get a good plastic-plastic bond
Hey guys hope all is well, literally never painted anything before and was thinking of attempting painting my necrons (starter set of 3 with paints kit) are necrons easy, and where the hell do I even start lmao?
the nice thing with basic necrons is that a metallic paint coat followed by splash of nuln oil already does 90% of the work for you
add a drybrush of the initial metallic color on top of the whole thing for easy beginner highlights
whatever bright color you get with the set (should be a bright green I think) on the tubes of their rifle
and that should be a good first miniature
the box should have instructions as well
just don't forget, multiple thin coats of paint are better than one thick coat if the color isn't uniform and (I should have added that at the start) prime the miniature first before painting other colors on top so the paint sticks well
For priming and drybrushing, there's tons of tutorials on youtube
most of the tutorials on priming are bad
primer is nothing special, its just normal paint
i just buy whatever says primer
so unless you're using an air brush, just get some black paint and go nuts
Yeah that is a marketing thing and nothing more these days
i hear vallejo paints are better for their metallics if youre doing necrons
then again, hobby paints are just house paints that have marketting
the metal air is ok, its not this amazing thing most people think, but its ok. the normal line is not good at all
i think the kit lemon got comes with a metallic anyways so thats nice
if you want that super bright green on the box you HAVE to go over where the tessaract glow will go with a bit of white paint (at least thats how i did it im sure theres plenty of other videos of how to make that green glow)
personally I like inks for metallics, anything with the listen pigment PM1 or any PM is good to me
or paints that use xenexo pigments
iriodin is meh but the industry standard because of automotive sales
the automotive industry controls all pigment product since they have the vast majority of sales
artist paint is like 3% and then hobby paint is 1% of artist paint
the entire hobby paint industry is marked as "do not invest in" due to how low the sales are
its a niche of a niche of a niche
Currently I have just the basic 3 necron with paints kit, and I think a chaos black spray can
I don't have anything else so idk if I have nuln oil or whatever
Haven't even opened the box lmao
Nor do I have a drybrush
nuln oil is easy to make if you dont want to spend $6 on a tiny bottle
Yeah I gotta learn painting techniques then, this'll be hard

Its just black shading right?
Cause ye i have that can of chaos black primer I think it's called
Not sure what primer does
Guy told me I should get it at the store way back when tho lmao
Nothing
Good to know, ty
yeah primer is to prevent absorption
This yeah
plastic doesnt absorb paint
you have agrax earthshade instead of nuln oil in the set
works just fine for those metal boys imo
tbf the colors in those sets are never enough to get the paintjob as depicted
My main concerns are rn
well it is, but the trick is you need to mix them
- painting, how to paint just in general, what paints i still need to buy, etc
- What dynasty/army to choose, I sorta want to do world eaters too, and dynasty for necrons I need to pick for color
And probably more
But mainly I just need to learn how to physically paint lmao
I SUCK at art
I do free lessons for new people on most weekends if you want to hop into one of those classes
I have a doctorate in art if that helps
yup, it's a good idea to start with a course and there are tons of online guides
Back
So do I have to like, even be good at art to paint models? Or is it something I can learn relatively quick
Cause I've always been awful at art
video guides are useful if you know the basics, most guides dont actually teach the basics you need that well
Yeah I need like the baseline basics of how to pick up a paintbrush and make magic happen lmao
@spark field dm me, I'll send you an invite to it later, I also hang out in the vc chats of a warhammer paint streamer a lot and its mostly people with backgrounds in art
Sure sounds good
I might also need some
sure
Now I just gotta decide what dynasty to pick
But these 3 necron dudes (which is all I have rn) I'll probably just follow any instructions I find with basic colors
(When I learn how to paint said basic colors)
make your own
That is an option
I think I might opt for Citadel paints cause my first minie is a little bit rough
dont follow a color guide, just use what colors you like
i mean, technically the easiest is prime black, then add silver details
but yeah, I think gold will stick around even with other paints cause it`s pretty good
you'll probably get a similar effect from citadel honestly
its just rebottled house paint
thats not a jest either
it literally is
Hey could someone help me out here? I'm prepping to paint my Votann Ancestor's Wrath and I had an idea for a custom paint-job, does anyone have an idea for how I could do this sorta effect?
Mainly asking for paints I would need to get and if I would maybe need to do contrasting and stuff
the company that makes their paint doesnt make artist acrylics
oh, so I just need more experience to make colors more bright
and make it accurate without splatters
pretty much
I dont know what it would translate into hobby paints but for a frost effect id do a zinc oxide glaze, for silvery blue I'd mix blue and silver
I heard that primer is used to make paint adhere to the mini better
I always thought it had some kind of chemical that sticks better to plastic
but hey, even more ways GW and miniature painting companies use their customer's ignorance of painting in general
I actually have a video disproving that
its like a 2 second test
it MIGHT help when it acrylic is over thinned, but at that point thats a skill issue
Can I get a link in dms? I'm actually starting to get more interested in the more technical side of painting since I joined this server and saw you talk about so many things
there you go
You can also use snakebite leather it makes a good gold over silver
Bigger boi
Nope, it's 3d colouring in, there's some nuance to it but its really easy overall
Priming is the most important step, it affects the rest of the colors you put on by setting the base tone. For instance paint red over white for a really bright red but as soon as you paint red over black it's much darker. Yellows end up looking green over black from this same effect because most black paints are a really dark blue
Im trying to get into the warhammer Table top and Im trying to find a good Guardsmen set for a beginner, Any suggestions? (also paints what do I need)
cadia stands if you're american
its 100 dollars USD on amazon and its got all of the combat patrol sprues plus a hard cover (outdated) codex and (outdated) datacards
Cadia is in fact
Currently not standing
Where Can I get the Codex and DataCards?
They're outdated unforunately
Where can I get the 10th editon Codex and Data cards?
They don't exist yet
Ah
The Warhammer app has them for free right now since they're indexes
This is the Cadia Stands box, it's the same as combat patrol but can be found cheaper in some places
If you're looking for cheaper models, the old plastic cadians and the Catachan jungle fighters are really cheap. The cadian squads could be found on eBay and the Catachan (very ugly models but you can make them work) are only $35 on the webstore
It has 9th edition hard cover codex and 9th edition datasheets as well so its just a better buy anyhow if you like the lore
That there is the best starter for the new models
castellen green and zandri dust if you're going for a basic cadian look. Brushes just about anything wworks
maybe some brown colors for the leather and leadbelcer for the grenades/radio/aquillas
Citidel is a fine paint range but you can get more bang for your buck with army painter. I like Vallejo if I can get my hands on them
Army painter makes good model brushes for cheaper too
Pick up some washes too, agrax earth shade and seraphim sepia are probably the ones you want if you're doing generic cadians
For skin, bugmans glow and a mix of the other flesh tones are good. I forgot the Wash's name
The wash is reikland flesh shade
Thanks I also Look up a couple of tutorials to go into deeper Explination
Here's the paints I use, I don't paint basic cadians but this is what I would pull out for them if I were to paint them right now. I would add another green for a highlight and also get a gold for the aquilas but you can also paint those silver and it would look fine
But best of luck guardsman! If you want inspiration for regiments, I'm always open to help too. There's a lot out there
Finished up a rather firey Frost Serpent.
they dont make brushes, they get them from rosemerry and co
they also dont make paints
okay they sell paints
they dont have the legal permissions to create an acrylic medium and most acrylic paints are subject to copyright or trade secret
its really fucking stupid
not exactly, house paint has other things in it
house paint has stuff like polyurethane
yeah... thats literally what acrylic paints are
thats the most common binder for acrylic paints
acrylic paints for models are water soluable
its typically a PU+PVC blend
So are most house paints
housepaints are certainly not all water soluable
I was a formulator for a house paint company I cant name, but reaper, army painter, and scale 75 all ordered from us
Army painter adds some matte medium to it, reaper adds water, scale 75 adds matte agent
I wouldn't say all house paint is water soluble, and in anycase for starting someone should definetly use model paint
Or golden soflat
golden soflat is a professional grade paint but its also better for beginners
it has vastly superior coverage and opacity
difference is you need to learn how to mix your own colors
which is pretty easy, a lot of canvas artists have videos dedicated to color recipes
which is not something I would recommend for beginners
and I'm not going to spend the time thinning house paint to paint my minis either
Yeah no that I dont recommend
but you can do that if you're cheap
but mixing colors I would recommend to beginners
its actually stupidly important if you want to improve at all
you also learn the functions of transparency so you can make slapchop look vastly better
the time, learning, and resources for that are far beyond what I would do for my mini painting when I could just use that time to work the job that I know how to do and make the money to buy a $4 dropper. I know how to paint but I don't want to bother learning how to really make paint
but hey I'll give anything a shot so maybe I'll look into it more
I'd be glad to teach you
15 minutes with me, you'll understand color theory at a advanced level
I know how to mix paint just fine, I just use model paint so I don't have to break down house paint lol
I can teach you to mix every skin tone in existance in less than 10 seconds
Ive timed this
its actually stupidly simple
1 part burnt umber 1 part orange(I use pyrrole), X parts white, add yellow ochre to taste
done
thats all skin tone mixes are
I'm having a hard time telling if you're a troll or not
the tri color yellow red blue thing really isnt that noticable at this scale
Naw, Im an autistic doctorate of art, i get excited talking about art stuff
im in an art discord vc if you want to join
its warhammer focused from a streamer
I'm still not sure I would ever use house paint but I do know basic to advanced color theory just from painting models over the years. I probably won't ever get into making my own paint but if you can do it with house paint, more power to you
I'm a little busy with engineering finals otherwise I would
do you know the kubelka munk theory?
out of curiousity
if you dont I can upload an image that explains it
I don't know what that is
also I would love to see some of your models at some point, I'm gonna post my best paint job
when you mix colors, the color change doesnt move in a straight line
it curves, this is why you can mix purple and blue out of red and green
yeah color's a spectrum so I imagine it doesn't move precisely when you add different colors
that makes sense
oh rad
its pretty useful for color fuckery
can I see some of your models?
neither one is finished
im just testing out schemes
the left one doesnt show on camera well
neither looks greak but I dont have the time to put 5+ hours into a knight most months
thats a knight
I have a titan painted somewhere though
its not painted well
the resin had a leak and kept stripping the paint off so i gave up trying to paint it well
I've got too much infantry but eventually I'm getting a warhound
I have two warlords in ym closet, im just waiting for the move before I paint them so i can get a job that doesnt want more than 60 hours a week
How do I effectively zenithal highlight?
Just spray from the top with white primer over black primer
Do I want even coverage? Or just enough to kinda speckle it
sort of even
Gotcha, I coated my orks in black about an hour ago so I'm gonna let it fully cure before I try to do anything
honestly I wouldnt base with black for orks
red
red and white over it
the red will cause the greens to get a better shadow tone
Ooh good idea, I gotta pick up some mephiston red spray for my blood angels anyway
If you're doing a lot of zenithal you might want an air brush
a yellow spray will brighten the greens
@pallychan yeah basically
You're essentially just "shining a light" from a certain angle by adding a lighter coat (usually the top, where a light source would be)
Decided to actually put my whole army in one place, I am massively behind on painting
Why did I have to pick arguably the hardest army to paint and then decide I wanted custom colour schemes on everything
My next army is getting slapchopped 100%
Is the trail transparent? the effect looks clean asf
so much stuff to paint xD
I have a grayfax, a celestine, a whole squad of battle sisters, another rhino, repentia...
I still have over half of leviathan - pretty much every tyranid model and all the infernus marines lol
How did you create material for the flames/smoke? Is it green stuff or something? Really cool 😁
Resin and wet blending or airbrushing, if I had to guess
Okay so question: My store usually does 750-1000 point tournaments. My current line up is a terminator squad, eradicator squad, Infernus squad, captain in terminator armor, a librarian in terminator armor, 10 intercessors and a redemptor dreadnought. Since I bought the starter set it came with two characters in terminator armor yet only one squad to attach them to. Should I swap the captain out for a normal lieutenant and apothecary for both my regular marine squads or is he individually stronger? Also I'm getting a rhino totalling at exactly 1000 points. And I usually use the librarian for my terminators for the sustained hits buff
Neither character with ability to be in squad is good individually
The original piece itself is transparent, yeh. And thanks!
It's a 3d printed piece from deadlyprint studios. I wish I was good enough with green stuff to make these lol!
And when I do spray do I just blast straight down? Or kinda sweep over them
EC Forgefiend finished!
Pink
Does anybody know if mad robot mini heads look decent with the new guard line?
I know yall ain't fuckin wit the Ultranyarines
That hurts
it's perfect
I need these for the knight i wanna make
I wanna do the ‘welcome to the knight cafe’

New guys just arrived
Man these grim guard models are way cooler than I expected
Are these good enough zenithal highlights?
Getting few more interses, fast attack, hq and vehicle on one rock
You need to install counter strike source.
He's missing textures
Good luck with those Inceptor stands
Do it XD
First time painting a sword master Custodes… I think a sub assembly is required
I think I may just try slap chop again instead of zenithal because using a rattle can for this isbawful
That is not normal
I noticed in the image you sent earlier some are normal some are crusty, so im assuming what you did was do like a conveyer line of spraying them right?
If that's the case you should shake up the rattlecan, like you would normally, after a few of them
The same thing happened to my Kasrkin where some were perfect and then some were crusty, I alleviated any issues like that by doing what I recommended. Just what worked for me, if that's what you're doing.
Finally remembered to paint the aiming laser on the stubber
Ahh okay yeah I did that, I think on my next kit I may just go back to drybrushing. But that's why I bought these Boyz, just to practice
did you soak the can in warm water?
That I did not
that can help
Also was it super cold outside because that can make a difference?
Its going to be one hot headed driver.
He knows what he’s getting into
get bismuth vanadate yellow
you'll thank me later
Noted
its a little expensive, but you can cover black in 1-2 coats in most cases and it wont look green
No kidding? Yeah I can get at a local craft store for around $30 USD
golden soflat?
Golden brand yeah
Golden is a very high end brand
its one of my top 3 brands
those brands are golden, lascaux, and schmincke
for acrylics
Yeah I know how yellow is, and I want to unironicallypaint lamenters so
Might be worth it
bismuth yellow can also be airbrushed unlike cadmium
Looks like I'm still not great at painting lol
Looket Dem Boyz! Looket does Yoofs! Ahhh. Da circle of WAAAGH.
These are looking pretty fire my guy
I'm thinking of stripping them and starting again. I kinda Messer up on the primer and it's making the color look weird
I appreciate it tho 🙂
You get the best "true zenithal" effect by keeping the airbrush/can still, not super close to the mini and at a slight angle (there's also 3 step version where you use a slightly darker version of that colour and spray from the other side afterwards to create shadows)
@mint dove are you dissatisfied with the color of the skin or the armor?
Both really, I tried to spray white primer over black primer to zentithal but it just ended up looking tacky
But I bought citadel gray primer spray
mm that is a genuine shame
whenever i try to remotely zenithal i do grey and then super bright white over the top
Yeah my mistake was doing chaos black and thenspraying rustoleum white on it and it turned out as bad as you can expect
Headshot
On today’s stream I made the heavy metal alt Grey Knight Marine for the start of my Grey Knights army!
@quartz light who is that in the mechwarrior helmet
Me, we do a lil goofy photoshop every once in a while
I live and die by vallejo grey, its the perfect neutral point for any paint scheme
And super easy to two tone with if you have a black/white rattlecan
People often suggest priming everything in black and respectfully: people are fucking WRONG
Black priming is overrated beyond what words can express and makes you work twice as hard to get your colours to pop, it's only real use is if you want a strong red across 90% of your model imo, the heavy shadows you get from it can easily be replicated with a bit of nuln oil
All of my homing hate black priming
What if you dont want your colors to pop 🤔
I mean if you're going for that 'eavy metal style it works but I'm ngl I detest that style of painting
Grimy and shadowy on purpose is not as cool as people think it is
isnt eavy metal like the complete opposite of grimy
I mean I personally hate eavy metal style because it looks generic, which is the point. They're just trying to show off the models in the most visible and attractive way, universally
Grimy looks muted and sloppy most of the time. It's hard to nail contrast and purposeful weathering with that style. Eavy metal isn't that fun to paint and it doesn't look realistic at all but it's consistent and looks good on table.
I mean...I've definitely painted worse models
I just have a lot of detail work and clean up left
And uh yeah eavy metal is uniform base colors, shading and edge highlighting everything. Opposite of grimdark
You should be proud of it, like it's actually a handsome fella
Thanks! It's definitely better than my first mini
"Why did the emperor burden me with life..."
You're always going to beat yourself up over your own work, always natural unfortunately. But just remember that you're going to be seeing your models from a tabletop distance
To be fair red and blue aren't the easiest colors to work with
Painting yellow makes me want to have always been dead lol
Way better start than blotched layers of thicc acrylics
If I'd have known how much of a pain in the ass it was I would have just chosen Goffs lol
...wait
I can't use ghazgul with badmoons can i?
I could always just say ghaz git all his own boys killed and just paid for badmoon mercenaries
I can honestly think of nothing that would make an ork happier than getting PAID to krump
This was the goober i was working on a few months ago before I stopped
My only completed ork
Now that's a glow up lol
I should probably join the discord at some point it might fix the burnout I have with like 1200pts of ksons left to paint still
(^▽^)
Definitely needs a lot of improvement buy I'll give it like a 3/10
When da big blue git says "This planet is lost, initiate exterminatus"
Assembled my Tzaangor Enlightened
Now I'm like 10% further behind on painting lmao
Nice
I have the masculine urge to kitbash an ork and a space marine for no reason.
Gentlemen, how’s the look?
Better than my first
I keep ot around for sentimental value
Not the worst 1st mini I've ever seen 🙂
i didnt have any guides or even the right paints for him
i just kinda... painted
The rest of the squad turned out nice
Some of my Renegades
Their all fuzzy because i left them in a closet for years
Vraks militia, my beloved
Heresy

This is probably the best mini ive done, but im not an incredible painter
Mmmmmmmmm plasma
Dry brush’em with the plasma glow, you’ll see a new world
Yeah i went a bit hard with my plasma gunner vet, but i kinda like how intense it is
Thanks brother
Hi Everybody!
In this episode we're painting the Plasma Caliver using a series of blue glazes and we're also adding a subtle glow effect.
List of Brushes & Materials Used in the Tutorial:
Skitarii Rangers / Vanguard (15% off retail) - https://elementgames.co.uk/games-workshop/warhammer-40k/adeptus-mechanicus/adeptus-mechanicus-skitarii?d=103...
Go try this
You'll always have new plasma, trust me
Im just building kill teams
My buddy bought the octarius stuff and im painting it all up
Welp, that's what I thought lmao
Then I built an army
Im sadly a poor boy
I built the primaris kill team outta my pocket because i wanted some fallen dark angels
Don't worry, building an army takes time
I made the sergeant into a captain because i wanted a cape and the winged helmet crest
Once these are done im ordering that night lord kill team because their my favorite traitor boys
I just dont want legionaries for night lords because chaos gods are for nerds
foaming at mouth
These were commissions I taken before
Don't worry brother, the number of your miniatures will GROW
