#40k-minis-and-armies

Yeah it'd be vostroya and Night Lords in that case that's pretty much all the representation that part of the world gets in 40k
Night Lords?
Wha.
Night Lords are kinda vaguely eastern european terrorist space marines
Yikes.
It's not a terribly flattering depiction
Now I need to cringe twice.
They live on a planet with a dying star that gets no light so they're all super pale and edgy
That's where Conrad Curze came from
I never liked Night Lords to begin with lol.
They're like the opposite of the Alpha legion imo
Godawful, terrible concept that tends to be surprisingly well written
shrug Im gonna be honest and say I dont follow space marine chapters.
Theres like 2 Chapters I follow.
And they are super obscure.
And alpha legion is kind of a cool concept that consistently gets some of the worst writing in the entire franchise
I mean.. considering the Dawn of War Games are Canon..
Like if anyone tries to earnestly argue that the alpha legion are 4d chess loyalists you can pretty safely write that person off as a moron
Honestly they are just a bunch of weirdos that follow their own goals it seems.
From what small lore tibits I picked up from them.
From stuff like the Siege of Vraks
Yeah that's wayy more likely
I think alpharius intended for them to play the long game but then the leadership was completely decentralized right after they retreated to the warp and they spent a thousand years infighting in pockets of the warp: alpha legion have about as much of a plan as the world eaters these days
So none at all.
I dunno chaos space marines in general seem like a meme at this point
Appear here
get shit on by imperial guard
Disappear for 3 galactic cycles
Bingo
The "All according to keikaku" thing is a neat writing premise that demands a certain quality of writing the alpha legion have never once gotten
Yeah they do have the benefit of respawn timers so killing them isn't even consequential either
Which is funny that I was shitting on the Night Lords before bc as much as they're the cringiest legion their books are ridiculously well written
Disagree
If you don't like chaos and wanna read one series, probably read the night lords
I was just curious about Varangians / Kievan Rus since well my ancestors can be traced back to that I guess.
Conceptually I like it. It’s good actually having a story that actually…y’know, MOVES somewhere
I honestly dont care.
Has big impacts, actual progress
Suck it up
Nuff said.
Cope
Plus it was an absolute shitshow what the Imperial Navy pulled.
Imagine abandoning the ground forces that are still fighting as the goddamn planet buckles and breaks.
Sure the story involving nearly every faction is a bit wacky but 40k thrives on ‘a bit wacky’
Eternal Shame on the Imperial Navy
Yeah I didn't like Cadia bc it felt like they were trying to have their super smash bros event with every faction
Funny how they destroyed Cadia in lore.
Yet cadians somehow still fight the hardest out of all Guard Regiments.

And almost everyone still copies them.
When narratively the "correct" thing to do was use it to reintroduce the Exodites, Ynnari and an aeldar refresh and actually consolidate them into a real faction worth buyin and playing
But no lets have Trazyn show up and fucking pokeball thunder warriors onto the battlefield bc its whacky or whatever
Instead we got new guard models that I really dont like tbh.
But thats just me shrug
Yeah they didn't even commit to the guard refresh y'all got new cadians, 2 new tanks, half a box of kreigers and all of the other factions are still exclusively kitbash projects
I'd probably collect guard if I could actually fucking play chem dogs and not cadians
And new Kasrkin
That look worse than the old ones

tru I forget kaskrin
more than 80% of the Regiments listed in the Codex
Aint even playable.
Ive only ever seen Kriegers, Legionaiires, Cadians.
They're like T'au auxiliaries
And ive seen one dude who went through a re-casting process.
to make Jannisaries
of his own.
Which got him banned from our store.
Because the store manager is a [REDACTED]
He can’t even buy from there anymore?
They have like 3 lines of lore and you can tell those are placeholders for like "This is a pyschic T'au empire species who works alongside military"
Completely banned him.
Even though mind you.
He bought over 2500 euros worth of Guardsmen.
And has 4 or 5 different Guard Armies.
So you know theres' absolutely no lore or art beyond "we would like to give t'au a psyker unit eventually"
But because he tried to be different and cast his own jannisaries he got banned.
Like what the fuck man?
Recasting is only wrong if you sell them
I wouldn’t worry about the manager, once GW finds out that they’re losing .01 percent of their profits from this guy they’ll hang him
GW / Forge World dont make models for a unit you like
You go through the painstaking process of making your own even buying paint and brushes to paint your own things.
Gets banned
Otherwise its a DIY project that will only produce inferior results without significant skill with the process
It's the same with my Kasrkin.
I use the Old Models but Recast with Resin.
Cause I can make custom bases and troopers.
I REALLY want to make my own custom guard regiment but it requires 3rd party bits
And name them after friends.
@hollow goblet Actually talked to the second manager at my local store since I know him in private.
If you're playing at a game store where the managers give a shit about 3rd party bits then find a new game store dude
And according to him GW Demands they make around 10-12k weekly
In sales.
Dunno if true or not but thats fucking mind boggling.
Yeah official GW stores are the WORST
JESUS
well
Its an Officiall GW Store.
And the only one in town.
You are actively encouraged to employ the scummiest sales tactics possible
In a town of 1.8 million people.
That would explain my local store manager’s hatred of 3rd party bits
You don't have a 3rd party hobby store?
I dont even play in that store anymore.
Or buy from them.
I just buy my things online.
Not remotely close to me no.
And the one I used to go to well.
Towns occupied by the enemy currently.
It shouldn’t even be a problem for mine, seeing as the store is in one of the wealthiest parts of the city
We have two in the city and they have a deal with GW for 15% off all GW products so its actually cheaper to go to the tabletop store than the GW one
I would kill for 15% off
Same, if I'm getting official minis, I go to one of the nearby 3rd party shops for a discount
This is in Australia too so a combat patrol box is like $300 dollarydoos here
Unpainted but already glued together.
discount adds up quick
Yeah yikes. Wtf
I know from my buddy RHino whos in West Australia.
He said a Infantry Squad of Cadians was what
60 AUD?
Fucking christ on a stick
Yeah I think admech is roughly $3 per point here
💀
that's THREE dollars for every in game point of admech you get
I remember accidentally accessing the website with my VPN on and wondering “what the hell is with these prices???”
It was connected to Australia. I have never been so blown away by prices
A cadian squad is $60 here in canada too
I ostly had to get second hand stuff off ebay
You think that's bad you should see how much a bag of cheese is rn
What the fuck is wrong with the Western World.
When I bought my pre 9th Edition Cadians I payed 25 Euros in Austria.
I think it went down to like 55 here in the US, could be wrong though
In Ukraine they were even fucking cheaper
Yeah we both have roughly the same dollar value but Australia gets way more brutal shipping prices bc we're a super isolated island
like 15-18 USD maybe?
The cadian command squad is $55
Little thing called the Democratic Party
for half the troops lol
38 Euros in AUT/GER
Europeans are lucky that GW production happens in england
and the Start Collecting Box was 70 EURO Flat.
its a unique market in that way
Chimera was 40 €
Sentinel was 25 €
Baneblade was 108€
Tho im stupid I made my Baneblade into a Shadowsword Titanicus
Meaning I will never have a use for it

Cause nobody ever runs a titan
Titans are the worst units in 40k
Doesnt matter.
They will still charge you stupendous amounts of money.
I'm super tempted to grab one bc souping chaos knights into Ksons is one of the only good ways to get anti-tank
Oh yes lets not forget.
The store I went to locally.
Actively made fun of people collecting guard.
Official GW Store btw.
Or any "Loyalist" faction as a matter of fact.
Chinacast is a decent alternative for me
might wanna share some of that with me in DM's if thats ok for you.
So was wiki hopping
How the FUCK is there not a kill team of the Vitrian dragons
I just dont wanna give GW money.
That is the coolest regiment I've ever seen
I want the uh Tallarn Desert Raiders tbh.
Y’all ever have autism and try to talk to your local store manager about warhammer video games and they stare at you like this
I like the mix of Afrika Korps / Arab Infantry.
Yes.
I tried that a few times, minus the autism.
And none of them knew about the video games.
That's why I love my local store, its the only place I can go where I get out-'tism'd
But if you ask them about lore they can go on for days.
The guys who work there collect all but 2 armies between the 5 of them
Time to make Moebian 6th Traitor Guard?
I've only played two games total since I strated in the hobby eight or so years ago lol. Two games in eighth edition
Havent played one cause my store is cringe.
be extremely invested in tabletop and lore
has never heard of DoW
Yeah...
They asked me what my paintjob on my minis was
110th Cadian
3rd Edition Regiment
They didnt know a 3rd Edition Regiment.
💀
and the 110th only appeared in DOW
and the 3rd Ed Codex.
No lore, no nothing to em.
Zamn
Except they turned on their own unit and began killing them in the name of Khorne.
I'm not too familiar with the lore myself, only recently started reading the books
I’m getting a shit ton for Christmas
But ye if you can share any non GW websites for minis send em in DM's lol
and appreciated
If you can go through them that fast I recommend just reading through the wiki for fun
O yea.
I do it all the time
I also made the mistake of going through the Horus Heresy series in order of release date
@hollow goblet Friend of mine is doing the Kasrkin for me.
Painful
AUGH
WHY DO I NEED A FLOW CHART TO READ A BOOK SERIES
Do they not.. number them on the side?
That looks
Incredibly snappable
Like Lord of the Rings does.
Wha
The gun
Made from a stronger plastic than the GW Models.
It looks like GW resin but damn
With custom bases.
I have the first 5 horus heresy novels and I have a feeling this will, also, spiral massively out of control before long
They released them in such a disjointed manner
I've already branched into collecting CSM from thousand sons so I can get away with also collecting daemons, chaos knights and whatever random khorne, slaanesh and nurgle units I like the look of
and then theres of course the extremely varying quality between the dozen authors
I think the series was literally called eisenhorn
I just know theres a sequence where a dying Kasrkin literally GUTS a Daemonhost, which then proceeds to spill acid and bile all over him killing him.
Eisenhorn. It’s called eisenhorn.
But the Daemonhost fucking got shanked by a Dying Cadian
Might have to look into those.
Its funny how in the book apperently
Eisenhorn went up against CSM, Daemons and the Inquisition Multiple times.
But Kasrkin somehow still made him feel Uneasy.

Like what?
How?
I have another question regading another Imperial Guard army
what role does guardsmen serve exactly in the army?
I am using Kriegsmen just in case anyone wonders
Objective Points
Take and Hold
so you just throw them on to objectives and make them hold the thing?
I have 3 DKOK squad accompanied by 3 Psyker and 3 DKOK Marshal to maximise their defense cap
while bearing melta, flamer, plasma, vox and grenade launcher
I'd just send my army list here but that'd go against the server rules ig
I think that was 9th edition only
Are you saying that a fully mechanized IG army is now capable of taking objective points?
also, I haven't played the tabletop yet
They can hold them i believe, just can't leave them like the Cadian shock troops can (sticky objectives)
So yes they are capable. But you can't sit on an objective (like you cant physically have a model on a token) so that's probably a strong deterrent to this choice.
so, I move my scout sentinel to give reroll 1 buff against priority targets
shoot and move my leman russes to absorb enemy fire and pack some punch
while the guardsmen clean up the rest and secure objective?
thats nice
Sir yes sir
Inspired by the darktide cosmetics
yes all the time
wait I didnt read anything past autism
They pass me the butter
forgot if i asked you, but do you have a seraphon army?
Nah they are almost certainly my next project after I get enough CSM to play with
ahh gotcha. was gonna ask you if they were annoying to build lol.
god i hope they arent
I've built a couple of their minis, all of the new kits come togather quite nicely
Have heard there are some gap filling issues on some of the bigger models and they can have the issue of "assembling flyers/floating minis is often a pain" from the Starmaster/pterodactyl portions of the army
But overall I'd say seraphon are probably around the same level as tyrannids, Mostly pretty easy, bodies tend to be one or two big chunks with some fiddly smaller bits to glue
Very relieved to hear that, thank you.
Think i've decided on them as opposed to chaos daemon tzeentch army
Based honestly, seraphon are the only spellcaster army that I liked more than tzeentch too
IIRC a large amount of seraphon models are also relatively new?
I like gitz on paper but the wolfrider portion of the army really loses me its mostly trolls and stoner wizards I liked
Yeah they got a big range refresh recently
All of their new sculpts are gorgeous too
Easily some of the best sculpts GW's put out in a while
Yeah I've always really like the Slaan and mage skink portion
Yeah the Slaan are the big toad guys
Where the fuck did I get GROAT FROM 😭
Fun fact that's more or less exactly what the Old Ones were in 40k
If seraphon ever came into 40k it would probably be a hybrid army of disciples of the old ones + \exodites
I would love 40k lizards so much
I think there's a t'au auxiliary race called the Zoat?
They're like sort reptile centaurish things
They were originally a diplomat bioform of the tyrranids that would like come to planets and try to get them to assimilate willingly in like 4th ed
And then they realized that lore is dumb as hell and retconned tf out of it
That sounds about par for the couse when it comes to GW lore
I cannot believe that they kept in the ability for space marines to eat flesh to gain memories
Yeah the Space Wolves fucking love that shit
Like it's kinda funny that Space Wolves get such protag treatment bc when you break down their culture they're essentially a khorne legion in every way except the khorne worship
Hey, can anyone tell me what the hell the gun on my HWP is?
Checking 1d4chan and I cannot tell if it's a Starcannon or what
It's not a Brightlance, and unless I slapped on the wrong ammo config it's not a Starcannon (since it has 3 ammo packs on the back)
Wait, nvm, the ammo packs are part of the gun
Either way no clue what the fuck it is
Honestly thought it was a D-Cannon but I can't put that on the weapons platform
Oh. It's the missile launcher
Well that answers that
And now I have a 2k Eldar army roster
1 squad of Guardians...really isn't good, is it?
I mean 1 squad of guardians holds the all important back field
They’re not stellar so one squad is fine
Just keep them hidden and they’ll be fine lol
Somewhere at the back with the Farseer glued to 'em I guess
Yeah they’re objective holders and purely there to stop the farseer being blasted away
So all they need to do is hold an objective or keep the farseer alive to influence rolls
wonder if I should get two more Spiritseers for the other two squads of Wraiths
Question. I got one recently to build Sydonian Dragoon, and I saw there was a holstered arquebus. Where the heck do you glue that because there's no spot in the instructions besides where the scanners clip on to the handle rails
Does anyone know a good airbrush?
Haven’t used one before but I wanna get into them
Progress on the collosal squig
I only just really started and it's my first Ironstrider, sorry but can't figure it out myself😅 maybe try to kitbash a holster to one of the legs
Appreciate the info thanks though
do you not have the instructions with it?
I do but the holstered guns arent shown as an example glued onto model just the scanner optional bits
I got my first definitive tabletop win!
Congrats dude
45 to 36. I was able to score more secondary objectives
What were the armies
Raven Guard versus T'au
You were raven guard I assume?
Yes
Victorus Aut Mortis
I am debating getting started in the mini part of the hobby
Would imperial guard, cadian shock troops specifically, be a good first army?
As in is the army simple enough to paint and make look good
Im aware theres a shitload of money to sink into Guard to make a tabletop ready army
For me personally, any army can be simple enough to paint. It mostly depends on what level detail you want to add on
Don't try to immediately go for the level you see from professional painters on instagram. You'll just disapoint yourself
And if you end up more concerned about the cost, just go for Custodes lol
My advice would be to just go for what you like, you'll have better results and motivation if it's a faction you enjoy and are excited to work on, than one that you're not as keen on but is "Easier"

I think there's a Nids set on the same page
That's actually the most important part, yeah. The hobby is supposed to be fun for YOU
Kinda why I don't play too much attention to the lore lol
I would just like passable cadians
Theyre my favorite faction, and Ill stay way from painting faces
Theres a gas mask head replacement so I think that would be easier to start with
Then just thin your paints and learn as you go
watch some videos to help you get started
worst comes to worst, you can strip paint off of plastic pretty easily
I understand custodians are probably the best starter army cause of how little money needed to get a 2k point army going
And gold is hard to fuck up
I think a single Warhound Titan is one of the cheapest 2000 point army technically
I dont like the trans humans
factually accurate
When your army has 200 faces, people tend not to look too closely at any single one
Gold is actually easy to fuck up as most gold paints suck
Faces aren't hard to paint, it's just people get get scared by their own shadows who think they are.
Watch some tutorials from canvas painters, not mini painters, and it'll all make sense.
I figured it would be a good excuse to mask up my shock troopers
Dont like exposed faces in military units
I wish the rebreather from this game was an actual mini option
Guardsman with this mask and goggle setup would look so good
yea but also masked up looks better
agreed
That too
The GW official one isnt bad either
Would look pretty well actually
Sort of a “close enough” kind of deal
Ill start with a kasrkin kill team, or wait for the rumored Imperial guard box set
Probably the box set is the best play
Get a leman russ in there was well
So, uh, query:
If I wanted to actually play a game of 40k, how many dice will I need?
And what exactly is in those card box thingies?
Datasheets
Those are the thingies
Question
Can you even use Yarrick in tabletop anymore?
I've been thinking about getting into it. (And I have some old models I would probably repaint and use if I did)
One of them is a 1992 Rogue Trader Commissar Yarrick. 🤣
I like the old metal stuff.
There are SO many old ones lmao
Idek what some are
I think yarrick is dead
He's just resting, is all..
From first hand experience it is not that bad
Cadia Stands is a 100 dollar USD box on Amazon that comes with two guard squads, a command squad, an armored sentinel, and a field ordnance battery.
I have roughly 2.6k points for give or take 600-800 bucks
Ive heard most of the guard army’s work is done with its tanks
It definitely can be, but imperial guard is an extremely versatile army
Plenty of playstyles
Guardsmen will basically not get any kills
Just really body block for the tanks
And hold objectives
You have some guardsmen that will absolutely fuck, but your battleline troops (DKoK, Cadia Shock Troops, Catachans, and Infantry Squad) are mainly chaff for objectives yes
It depends on what you're facing
Heavy weapon gunners have pretty good potential if used right, and Kasrkin are just good outright
Heavy weapon squads and thise with plasma seem like the killing infantry
If you're facing another chaff army, you'll trade
Kasrkin are badasses
Do people play traitor guard?
Is it even a faction that has models?
It is not a faction
You can run an imperial guard army themed after traitor guardsmen or Chaos Space marines can run traitor guard squads
So guard vs guard can happen
Yea, the tabletop doesn't really use any lore reasoning for battles. It can be anybody vs anybody
There's usually enough background fluff to justify internecine warfare
I have zero knowledge of tabletop, I have been wanting to start my first army for awhile now
The whole Badab War was just an excuse for non Chaos Space Marines to fight each other
Cadians now seems like a good start
Marines can be either doing Live Fire Training, or one or the other detachment is turning rogue and the other is trying to stop that.
Same for Guards.
Sisters of Battle are so fanatical they can literally just be killing each other because they think the other side isn't faithful enough, or one is too fervent and is fucking up the wrong thing in their zeal and the others are being deployed to bring them back in line.
Tyranid Hive Fleets explicitly fight each other if two meet, and it's implied to be a Contest of Strength sort of thing. Testing if one Tendril has what it takes to counter or surpass the other, and then mix and match whatever genetic material is left to improve later bioforms.
T'au have the Farsight Enclaves as an explicit rebel faction
Chaos will literally fight itself for the lulz.
Dark Eldar will fight each other also for the lulz
Orks...does anything further need to be said?
Necrons will fight each other for petty as fuck reasons or trying to reclaim what their dynasty owned in the past, but the other dynasty also owned it and reclaimed it from someone else through conquest and fuck you Imhotep the Bone Farmer, I'm not giving you control of the Smolexus Expanse because you look like a scarab with a mechano-cyst.
Cue aeons of war
The only faction that doesn't really do internecine conflict are the Craftworld Eldar because as haughty and head-up-rear they are, they're the sanest group of people next to a scant handful of Inquisitors.
So any Craftworld v Craftworld conflicts are more likely to be combat training, or the result of two Farseers getting screwed over by the Runes and accidentally an entire Battle Host
As for the Votann, no clue since they're new. But they have rival corporations, most if not all Kin are just clones with memory patterns burned into the sleeves, so they might have straight up hostile takeovers where no-one really dies per se (like the Dark Eldar, most of the time), but materiel is spent to exercise claims over trade routes and extraction sites
He is yes, but does that mean he can't be used in tabletop anymore?
He is no longer a datasheet
That's sad.
I got this cool af old Yarrick model. :<
Just proxy
This is the model I got lol.
Not that paint, but that model.
I have options though of what army I could build..
Pretty much got a varying collection of models from like 2nd Edition and below.
Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Chaos Space Marines, Astra Militarum..
Wish I could find the old 2nd Edition Furiosa Dreadnought
One of my goals in competitive games of 40k
is to win a game with a guard
while none of my men is standing alive
They died as soon as they signed up for the guard
Very heavily thinking about getting dropper bottles, would it be a good purchase?
Ive lost count of the amount of 2000pt+ games I had that came down to like 5 men and a half damaged chimea/russ holding on till the last turn
Question, does anyone have any religious symbols (icons) from the imperium of man? Im looking for some to paint on my tanks, to further increse their coolness,
But the only ones i can find is the imperiums logo, the cults logo, and then one i cant idenity on some of the offical images from GW
Iron Halos, Skulls in general, the Aquilla, etc.
If it goes on top of a staff in the Imperium it's probably religious
As for anything personally, not on me, no
Thank you! It was the iron halo i couldnt identify, and got it! :D
no problemo
And honestly there's not really any Ministorum markings on that tank. There skull-in-archway I remember from Dawn of War as part of the Imperial Guard livery, so it's either a Cadian sigil or an IG sigil in general.
The winged skulls are just...everywhere on Imperium stuff. Guardsmen have it on their helmets and their lasrifles.
Skull in archway is the cadian gate if i recall
Bois are not feeling so hot right now
Heres a painting reference i whipped up quickly for the iron halo should anyone else need it
Me and the lads on the objective
First shot at highlights and freehand
looks good!!1
This is less paint, and more "help me plan". I'm kit-bashing my Dark Angels successor chapter with Horus heresy stuff. The MK3's fit perfectly with my Chapter's aesthetic, but I'm torn on what helmets to use. (I dont like the death guard-ey spike helmets)
IMO second
first one is boxy and not that detailed, second one looks too gk to me, I'd choose the last
the "scowl" it has is really good, i know it's a DA successor but the DA are already very knightly and a bit "mean/dark" sorta vibes
My successor army is basically just the pre-heresy DA. Colors and all, except everyone has some sort of deathwing motiff
Very much Knightly oriented
yeah
the DA are mean and give off that sour vibe, permanently scowling
the knight helms in 2 fit best
but you could very easily do a mix and match tbh
Dude that is so fucking cool
WIP for my chaos knights base
No way that only took 30 minutes
Just need to find the inspiration to start working on the actual trench for the base so i can start figuring out the placement for all of them lil dudes and barbwires and shit
Nice dude, can’t wait to see the wip for it all
Also I’m curious, do you use army painters for your main paint? Or whatever it’s called
The models are painted with just zenithal highlight prime -> snake bite leather contrast -> flesh tearer red contrast -> creed camo contrast -> guilliman flesh contrast -> bit of blood for the blood god for the 2 guys
Dope
orange hounds ? 😮
Just picked up this haul of Chaos Knights last night. $450 CAD for $1070 worth of kits at MSRP. Four wardogs, 3 chaos knight questoris kits, with spare parts to build the rest of the variants. And getting chaos knights started now is really expensive because all their kits are being scalped pretty hard, going for over double MSRP.
magnetized and barely painted.
I could strip the orange from the plates, or I could go over it since it's thinly applied by airbrush.
hell yeah, what did you do for those flesh tones?
Guilliman flesh with some random shade if i am not wrong
Well you've done a great job with it. Flesh is the hardest thing for me to do right now.
Flesh is easy, faces are hard to finish
yes, very easily actually. Hes not very good at that. He's an amateur at best
that color right there? Its 2 parts chromium oxide dark, 1 part zinc white
Yeah, the guy can colour match and make it look appealing on camera. That's the skill the person displays with those videos. It's all a bunch of skills, yes, but it's not necessary like Corpse Starch points out.
he cant color match accurately, most of the time he's way off on the delta
it just looks impressive to the untrained masses
compare him to an actual professional...
it's also silly and unnecessary to use so much paint to match a colour, unless it's required.
its because he is trying to tone things with using quin magenta, hanza yellow, phthalo blue green shade, titanium white, phthalo green(both shades)
he needs to swap to split primary
instead of cmy
cmy is how you get high chroma bright brights, ryb is how you get duller low chroma muddy tones
absolute steal
considering that chaos knight kits are being more than doubled by scalpers and GW isn't keeping them on store shelves, and hasn't made any moves to discontinue the army, yeah. I'm happy with it.
scalpers are the worst ngl
Need a vote on armor color 1-4
My black templar sergeant
1/10 Raven Guard infiltrators done for a friend's Sanguinala gift
The minis I’ve worked on the past few days all together
One or two looks nicest to me, maybe you could do a mix because the silver could just be like the base color of the armor’s material
The Kasrkin guy look traumatized. Good job though.
I dunno man, I think it's at least a 9/10
lol oh no like one of the ten models
I think I've only ever done highlighting once and I don't think I did it right
I don't even know whi-no wait, it was my Ambulls
Or rather, Am-bots
You did an amazing job
The gun metal is the base color for all of them, the others are watered down and painted over, hard to tell but they all keep that nice metal look my camera just is poopy
Dark angel veteran finished
i'd go for 4
After some neat little magnet work my Devilfish commander stands up straight without falling now
Anyone who’s used Caulk for base decorating able to tell me if regular PVA would be good to glue them to bases? Or am I better off with super glue?
I use superglue but tend to find it has slightly better adhesive properties. But you need to make sure you are applying it to all parts that lay on the base ofc applying pressure just be warned it may seep through the materiel
Will keep it in mind, need to get some caulk board first though
Should I go back and fix the eye or leave it as is? (The kasrkin’s left eye, the right eye from our pov)
From a glance he looks fine, but then i zoomed in and now im cackling
I havnt painted flesh or eyes, i probably suck at both
it's an easy fix imo, go with skin tone and paint upper eyelid
such a great job looks a bit derpy with that one little mistake
So it’s the guy’s right eye (left from our pov) that’s the issue?
Probably do that for both just to keep it even
Yeah you’re probably right
right eye iris went a bit long and it's bigger than left. it's a pain in the ass to draw an eye again highlighting upper lids would make them look even
Im afraid to even attemp flesh, let alone heads
Plus i think helmets are cooler anyways
On the bright side everybody in warhammer is ugly
Easier than you think, just tedious haha
those spare heads mostly stay unused in sprue anyway, train on them?
Flesh is one of those weird things that actually looks better and better the more slightly varied tones you layer over each other
Even with T'au skin, I use like 4 different shades of blue plus a hint of a purple in a layer to get it looking a lot better than if I picked just 1 solid blue
it's a rabbit hole what you can do with skin. it's really fun to try painting imo
Well im painting my buddies orks next so itl be interesting
Yeah, try the same thing there with heaps of different shades of green
Start dark and work lighter
even red and oranges if you feel adventurous
And as you get lighter go for less and less coverage on certain spots, so like highlighting cheekbones and brow ridges more
Ill need some more paints since i only have 2 greens, but im gonna prime them white and use some darker greens to atart
Don't necessarily even need extra shades, just mix a touch of white in varying amounts to get different shades from your darkest one
Thats fair, i need a new white tho
My ceremite white dried up and i can barely use it
Oh yeah, Citadel whites suck ass. Do yourself a favour and get a proper artist paint like Golden fluid acrylic titanium white or similar
Ok
Trying to get the proper wet/dry ratio on the paint is always a fun task
Funnily enough, I've come up with a great use for my remaining citadel white pot. I will use it to make layers of toxic sludge trickling out of this pipe on my Norn Emissary base
Since that's about the consistency it has now haha
I forget who it was that was running a custom Imperium faction whose lore had them fighting T'au alone and cut off so they mix and match gear, but came across these cool bits that are a mix of Imp and T'au tech you might like. https://tinylegend.eu/search?q=reforged&options[prefix]=last
So basically clean up the right eyelid with skin tone color and see what the result is
Nvm found you with the search @simple thorn
yup that's what I would do
I think either eye on its own looks fine, the problem is they each don't look like the other, so you gotta make one of them the same as the other
My trick is a heavy drop of nuln oil around the sockets
Gives them hooded eyes, darkest dungeon style
I’ve done that in some cases, especially with eyes I know I can’t quite do but I wanna give it a shot with this one
I really don't like how GW does smoke, like for that grenade
This I think looks better-
Hell yeah it does
Eh… needed a little more definition on one side. Now I think I’m happy
ooooooo.
They are Primaris marines which is the only thing, rather than guardsmen, but the thought is nice
Wonder if they still work with HH marines
good god that is a lot of primer
actually started painting my deldar
I can smell the the picture
it smells like mising brain cells
wear a mask
i spray em outside and let them dry on my stove
well
TItanium dioxide is stupidly bad for you
Like it is known to cause neurological disorders when inhaled
The whole well ventilated space thing is a weird thing people say without actually knowing what it means
you have painted more models than I have
in the past 5 years I've completed 15 models
quality of quantity im sure
5 of them were warlord titans
thatd do it lol
i dont have titan money
commisions?
yep
gotcha
my buddy bought the killteam stuff and im painting it
although i bought my own intercessors beforehand
I need to paint more
i really enjoy it, id like te get a thunderhawk or something to try my hand at a vehicle
use it to transport my vet guard
im using walmart paint primer not the citadel ones so idk
Yes
Its the most common white pigment
The next most common white pigment is zinc followed by lead
all toxic lol
sad trumpet noises
white scar has been my chosen primer for a while
ive gone through 3 cans
i do it outside but sometimes not in a well ventilated area
that being where it lingers
i usually cover my mouth and nose with a shirt
that still worries me a ton because last time i know i inhaled a ton
just get a respirator
they are like $20
replace the filters every 6 months
gonna get a mask now
yeah ive got one pulled up now
would i probably be alright if i didn’t inhale any more for the foreseeable future
im not feeling anything currently
fucking wish they told you when you bought it “hey don’t inhale this shit or you’re gonna be fucked up”
Suggest wearing a basic mask if you have one - I typically am lazy and just hold my breath nowaays
well they also dont tell you about xylene exposure too
alright doubly so on the mask then
but the exposure you're getting from the solvent in a primer is negligable
yall just been huffing primer?
solvent exposure is based off of industrial settings witth 8 hour exposure time
xylene however is in tamiya panel liner
which people will leave right next to them for hours
no problem
I drank a small cup of paint water how long do I have left
20
😢
F
Noooo
That’s the medicine they are trying to take away from you
more than you'd want
Sweet
Traitor guard captain
My second ever finished mini. I feel like I need to learn glazing and better methods for precise, controlled edge highlighting, as my edge highlights still got rather broad in places. Good thing I’ve got tons more of these generic flamethrower dudes to practice on
Finished the next layer of the terrain. Might age it, might not.
Should I print this for my Eldar army?
STL for the original Armorcast Revenant Titan
Ahriman is ready for the furry convention
Still firmly maintain that Ahriman should have a jackal mask it just feels right
Heavy vox distortion and ethereal echo “Awoo”
Love some Red Corsairs
you mean STC (XD)
Honestly, I think the Tsons and Space Wolves should try and make amends. Find some common ground.
Like their shared fear of vacuum cleaners
same diff, lol
The good ol’ days, back when every model was goofy asf
It's gonna be goofier, you familiar with the Yriel's Personal Company paint scheme from 1st edition Eldar?
…no?
Oh boy
SUPER goofy
YUP, can't wait
I thought the Intercessors came with weapon options but nope...had to cut the boltpistol off to glue a plasma pistol from the battle sisters on there
Now I just need to figure out how to add a chainsword/powersword properly
Doesn't 10ed not allow them plasma pistols any longer?
They have them in the app though
In the codex as well
Not too bad for my first "kitbash"
My bad, was thinking of a different unit.
Has anyone have any clue from where I could source , the heads for Wulfer and the twins
The tiger stripes look sick
Yea I hope I can pull it off well, gonna start printing the Eldar army later this week (gotta do some Battletech mechs first for me and my friend) and will definitely have progress pics, I'm thinking the best bet is to precut stripes of painter's tape, spray it black, add stripes, spray yellow, tweezer away stripes
I'm pretty sure Wolfer's head is based on one of the commander models from the old rengeades and hertics models, so pretty rare. A modifed stormcast head might work. And, the twins look to be inspired by the swordsman body guards in the Dark Commune squad.
Here's the renegade model
Ah, okay, the model is called a Renegade Enforcer
any good places to get a similar helmet cause i checked on ebay they are selling for 100 pounds minimum
Oh man, besides the sigmar dudes, not sure, I'll be looking since I'm converting an army, I'll let you know if I run into anything like it.
these could be a good substituted
If the eyes are removed
yeah, those would work well
Oh boy. The old Forge world techmarines are TINY
i found something that these mask some of them work perfectly
The move to truescale really hurt these gys
yeah
Are those Wrack masks?
yes
I think I'm gonna have to get a box of marines purely for HQ conversions
But you do have to amit they look similar
I'd hazard a guess they used inspiration from the rest of the IP
They do, just wonder how they'd fit scale wise with Guard/traitor guard bodies
About the same height
Kit bashing a Warboss in Mega Armor. Liberal use of green stuff.
Good luck
Thanks
You might be able to find decals
Update to my new space marine chapter. The Kriegsreich chapter.
Tried to do a glowing affect on the gun but I’m not a fan
Not fully done but so close
The Captain is nice but what really is freaking me out are the red/white socks in the background.. awesome
Honestly, i would drill the bolter nozzle
I will concede, though that they’re very odd lol
I commonly do, but all of my bits are broken
I plan on doing it at a later date
Nice
Idk how my bits broke it was months age but they were more or less the cheapest I could get so that’s prolly why lol
Oh my god I can finally access this discord on mobile again
I tried on mine for that bolter and botched it so had to go plasma pistol
@visual turret did you decorate the base of your knight at all?
I’m trying to think of simple ideas as I don’t want to take them off the base to do so
Nah both mine are plain
I don’t bother with basework tbh unless they come on a base
Fair enough
Struggling to determine what I wanna do for army #3. Already have guard and tau under my belt. I’ve considered space marines and Custodes. Knights maybe. Nothing else I can think up catches my fancy.
traitor guard
I second these
Knights are fun
What chapter space marines? A mainline one, secondary founding or a homebrewed one
make a guide hole with your hobby knife first, then use pin vise
that way you don't have to worry about alignment and vise slipping
Lamenters
Not too bad
What's a pin vise?
Are you sure you don't mean Kriegsreich? Unless they're doing a lot of smelling that is...
I still think its weird how they call it a pin vice, I get why but its a hand drill
I justb bought one pack of boyz and a warboss (The guy of the pict)
ORKS ORKS ORKS ORKS
YEAH
The Next purchase: Ghazkul Thraka
Big ork
I'm a beginner so go easy on me lol these are the first mini things I've ever painted.
I'm becoming addicted send help!
Make a budget!
That’s the only help I can provide
ikr! at least it's hand drill in my language 😄
I did beforehand thankfully.
This shit is too much fun
I cannot stick to a dark eldar paint scheme
I’ve painted these two warriors in 8 different schemes total
Poor bastards have seen more isopropyl alcohol than a wound
I'm excited to see your work progress, these are already awesome looking gentlemen
Thank you, I'm doing my Deathwatch Combat Patrol Box when I grab the last few paints I need for them
TBH when I made my knight I was lazy and just wanted to be done with the project so I just did the whole rocks on ground. But something like hills or even having a sort of lake they were stepping in was a idea I had
For such a grand project it’s really prolly best to do something cooler with the base in all truth
impatience is the worst feeling during a long project'
Yeah I am thankful it’s only happened this one time I learned how to avoid it from this
Plan on painting up new sculpts like this. Any tips on the camp pattern on the fatigues? (I’ve done it on kasrkin before but that’s MUCH flatter since it’s on carapace armor)
even then, simplistic is good. That base ties the model together really well
Yeah, I managed to get some cork boards on the cheap and I'm going to look to make a ruined road
Does anyone know if i was to buy "COMBAT PATROL: DEATHWATCH" could i hypothetically not make any of them deathwatch or are the parts specifically selected to only be able to be constructed as deathwatch?
It comes with the standard space marine parts and a deathwatch upgrade sprue, so yea you can just build them as default space marines
Dob of white, then fill in with camo
it's just a bunch of space marines with deathwatch upgrade sprue
So all shoulders to make the normal ones are provided?
yup, generic packs with all the components plus 2x this:
Thank you !
Isnt that sprue the first born one?
I took the picture with googling primaris upgrade sprue
Wait, im pretty sure the primaris ones use the first born one. Very strange if that's the case because i don't think I've ever seen GW mix firstborn with primaris before.
I'm a bit concerned with torso, rest should fit easily
any death guard enjoyers
Very nice
gods damnit man, you forgot to install CS Source
I need death guard
would do unspeakable things for a death guard army
Wow thats some vibrant purple
3rd mini. I used Kalinsky Sable brushes for this one. What a difference. I felt the difference.
Do you plan on using a wash or are they staying bone white?
Is that resin?
Just Pla
It the rogal dorn
Sick
Comes with an ugly ass hole in the bottom so I found an STL to patch it
Im only dabling in kill team so i have no experience with vehicles
I want a thunderhawk, knight, or baneblade as just a project at some point
I was gonna add a potential dark contrast as a light brushing over the top and bottom for depth
Ah cool, im not big into nids but i like the purple chitin
i have a Macarius Vanquisher and i might buy another or get a Gorgon heavy transport for christmas for myself
Sadly i dont have the money, or an airbrush
i have a rogal dorn for Test bed stuff
I'm not super into them but they were a good starter kit to bring on vacation since I don't have a reliable way to transport my deathwatch
So if they break or something on the drive home, it's not biggie
They seem super easy to paint
They are but fun bc of the tiny details on the body and gun
I get to use my Psycho brush on them
They make for good practice
So far ive painted warp talons, primaris assualt and normal intercessors, vet guard, and now im working on my buddies orks
I'm brand new. This is only my 3rd mini I've ever painted
And I've never done tabletop before
Aside from the warp talons ive really only stared painting in spetember
Alao havnt played tabletop
My buddy bought the kill team starter set so im tasked with painting it all
My progress so far
I bought the intercessors just before he got the kill team starter set
Kill team set looks fun to paint
I have kill team kasius at home, deathwatch combat patrol box, and my sister got me Thrakka for when I'm confident enough for that
I'm very excited to hopefully get to that level
These orks have me sweating bullets
Never done flesh tones, or orky stuff. And their for a friend who payed for them
Kinda nervous
Orks are easy!
If they look bashed together, held together with hope, spit, and glue, you are good.
Scrappy lookin' Boyz for ya
Ok i was concerned i was makin these orks a little too dark but i kinda like them darker
I just use Waaagh flesh from citadel. I need to learn to do highlights.
Spearmint admech thus far, working on Cawl right now
love the red/green color palette
as all arbites should be 🙂
I have stripped and reprimed my kabalite warriors 8 times
I have scoured thousands of images, and it seems most people just paint blackheart or obsidian rose. I cannot think of anything unique
Pastels? 😅
Best birthday gift
So how does contrast medium work?
Nice!
I don't like the gaps, but that is what sprue glue is for!
I'm also not a fan but I was sitting for 30 mins trying to get no gaps so I think there was a problem with the model itself
I have returned to warhammer and possibly chosen the worst model to try my hand at
The prophet of the waaaagh will be the end of me
He's about to paint you
That model is going to be done when I am at a good place. I have it still on sprue second hand, but I am missing the base.
I am not yet confident in my painting.
Same. I'm saving my thrakka for when I'm more confident
Humorously, I am using Warhammer as the core part of my final for an oral speech class. Lolol. Wish me luck!
Curious question
I am painting some McFarlane 40k figurines. Would those count as going in here despite not being mini?
I don't see why not. It's still cool.
My first Arbites. My headcanon is they are posted on a world under Dark Angels control, hence green instead of red stripes
Try to get some white right in the centre of the glow effect it makes a huge diff
Oh ffs reply deleted itself
what did you say
Nah like it's the message beforehand just didn't link as a reply
ohhh
so let me ask you all a quick question
it is beginning to look a lot like Sanguinala Christmas and I'm planning on buying some warhammer miniatures to my friends
we have decided to prepare two gifts: one to give it to a specified person that we chose beforehand, and the second one will be thrown into a pouch and be drawn randomly
I'll need to get two packs for this, obviously and what do you all reckon would be the best pack to gift
I already got the 40k introductory pack for this purpose, any other ideas?
Will it be okay if I just throw them the model box alone, without paint and any other tools?
rescued battlewagon
incomplete ofc
rescued metal deff dread
im waiting to get one of those little hanging thing between the legs that killa kans have
Those are awesome!
i got one of those yesterday along with snikrot and other orks
First mini after not painting for over a year. Thoughts?
It's 3d printed resin which is why the surface looks kinda weird
Noice!
Started my new Aeldari army, squad of Dire Avengers, a Farseer, and a Warlock Skyrunner all fit on one print job
I wonder what the most points per print I can do
Anyone been able to get hold of any legions imperialis
Thinking about printing off a Imperator Class Titan for shits and gigs but curious if the adpetus titanicus scale is still correct?
Yep. They're both in the same 8mm "Epic" scale
oh you're returned

He looks ready to “resolve” “violent” citizens (they said they deserve basic human rights)
Someone was 0.1 seconds out past curfew
They said his helmet looked funny now they are spread across the block
I blew my entire pay check on a knight
ice soup it is
yep
Its not sold out here in euro town
bullshit
cant buy it from there bc they wont ship to us from the uk website
bc god hates me

because GW hate you and wants you do buy a 3d printer instead
well stop thinking its hard and take the my class
Nice advertising
this 😗
i want to get set up and print some bits after the semester
i need to get a venting hood though cause i live in a studio
NYC moment
i told him I'd teach him for free a while back
dont mock nyc, its fantastic
Sure
fifth best place ive lived
worst place ive lived was ohio
we can nuke ohio
Ohio is a wasteland
Your the first person ever I heard say something good about ny
I'm a full time artist
I literally can afford to buy a pent house in manhattan while I work there
so i can completely avoid poor people
But I dont by choice because rich people are worse
