#40k-minis-and-armies
1 messages Ā· Page 82 of 1
idk where I would get the files for 40k figures tho. im a dummy when it comes to pirating.
i dont even have my anime private tracker website anymore (i lost access when I was overseas without internet for a year š )
I believe the main ome got taken down a couple years ago
But I'm sure there are plenty out there
Do you have printer?
spiderbutt tank finished
anyone have any reccomendations for primer you apply by brush? I attached some models to the base early like a dope and I dont want to put primer on the base
any primer that can be easily applied to plastic with a brush is going to be chemically no different than normal acrylics
aka you really dont need it
Yeah vallejo primer isnt legally actually a primer
and I will be bringing that up with the EU standards court soon
pretty much
I'll be doing a test very soon to prove this
i saw a video on that, you just leave the model in dish soap for a few hours
and the paint should stick
speaking of which
vallejo has a larger partical size than craft paint
eat shit nerds
Fucking called it
"but it has a smaller particle size" no it fucking doesnt
Thoughts on my kelermorph->Primus conversion?
First proper, literally every skill I know, model I've done in a while. Been cranking put my UM armour recently
Update on wip
Did I put the primer on too thick?
Nah looks perfectly fine to me
The details arenāt lost, youāve got a good base coverage to work with
Thanks brohemian
Rattlecan primer applies in like near single molecule layers you'd have to do a tonne of layers before you lose any detail. I've primed minis in gold, changed my mind and reprimed them to grey and then gone back to gold and lost no detail on the mini whatsoever
And GW gold primer is the one that applies the most visibly thick layer of paint as far as I'm aware
For my Imperial Knights, I want to emulate a logging site in their bases, with mud, tree trunks, scattered surviving vegetation. Anyone know a good way to do mud with tracks in it? I would love to have armiger foot prints in the mud below my full Knights
I saw a video where they used texture paint and rolled a little 3D printed tire through
it looked okay
its a paint that has something like sand in it to provide texture
or its an impasto style paint
for tracks though, grab some apoxie sculpt and run tires over it, same with armiger feet
then put a mud texture paint over it
not filling the holes
then you paint those holes in with normal paint
and then fill them with some uv epoxy or something for water or something
tons of ways to do it
AK puddles was my plan for water. Should look great pooled up in the tread marks
Also, I've seen lots of barbed wire stuff but is there any chain link fence additives out there or am I stuck making m own?
mesh
you can get it in bulk for pretty cheap
Thanks human meat
It'll be a bit til I get to this but I have a list of all the tools I need now I think
Also gonna do my knights with a black and red checker / mint green livery for. Lumberjack inspired look. Should be baller
I have found the single worst paint so far by a large margin
like this isnt even funny how bad this is
it got beat out by fucking walmart craft paint
What about the paints at the dollar tree
Can you explain the measuring of the paint going on here? I'm very newb to paints
right here actually
Dont worry, this will basically confuse most people here, this is called a hegman gauge, its a $600+ precision block of steel that goes from 0 to 150 microns. What this does is allow me to test for particle size without a $20,000+ tool with I also have.
It also helps me test for dispersion and other things
its super simple looking but its invaluable for my industry
since I have to make my own paints and pigments a lot
So the closer to zeron the better?
sort of
this right here means they are most likely using a dye in the paint
because that particle size is way too small
thats smaller than a water molecule at this point
or damn close to that size
you want anywhere from 5 to 40 with acrylics
thats the standard range
you want it to be one continuous line too
so that yellow up there is spotty and has grit in it
which means its very low quality
Is that good?
its not the worst
its ok
its better than you would expect
Damn
What about citadel paints
lets see
fail
I mean there meant for small stuff
well this means the particle size is large
very large
that means its actually meant for house paint
What does that mean
House painting with citadel would be insane
well the company that makes citadel paints is well known for their house paints
their true end goal, wait til some influencer pays to paint their house with Citadel Colour, shut it all down and retire on the profit
Is this why people prefer Army Painter?
army painter performs about the same
this is the paint I use
screwed up the white
Nice job
but yeah around 10 micron range
which means better pigment disperson and better coverage
I am a blank slate for what to use, what should I use?
anything you want to
okay Mr. measures by micron
what i'm doing here is to combat the myths about paint and provide public data
about paint and paint chemistry
it'll be important for reviews later
you can achieve great art with the worst paint
Corpse secret plan
use what ever you are comfortable with
nothing
I personally use professional stuff, but I also am a weirdo who can mix blue out of a red
I hope you get color blindness
i mean, if you want I can teach you some things
I am technically an art teacher after all
that'd be great
I have a good idea of what I want but the materials and techniques are beyond me
Same
I just happen to only do substitution for it because I cant be asked to be around screaming adults 24/7
lol
yeah just send me a dm
Huh
Screaming adults??
college students
I have a doctorate
I'm over qualified for high school
High school is that closest thing to hell lmao
Also, I want to know if this WIP was ever completed, and sits out there somewhere to be downloaded, it's someone's design attempt on an Imp Knight Drop Keep that carries Knights down from theri transport
yes, i hate it
Teaching is mixed parts of "I can't believe I get to be a positive influence on these amazing young people" and "Sweet jesus you're gonna have a repeat customer discount at the county jail, aren't you?"
i dont think so
for me is more "I wish I and you all were never born"
yea it seems abandoned sadly, but would be so cool to print out in FDM as a Knight Carrier for games
r/antinatalism
What state did you teach
A few, NC is one of the more major ones though
my condolences
fair actually, art doctorate
but NYC has 2 major paint companies, a major pigment supplier, and a major art conservation supply maker
I have an anti-urban bias, cause the big city hub in my area has like 30k people
I lived in DC for over 20 years
Maine isnāt real
I then moved around a lot and ended up in DC
Literally what we want you to think
Iām convinced the East coast is just nyc
yeah its way different
compare me, a washingtonian to a long islander
we cuss more but also use racial slurs a lot more, but we dont have a weird accent
NYC is so culturally distinct from any of the surrounding areas
cultures within NYC are distinct
Damn
Maine meanwhile shares one culture for the whole state, built upon community helpfulness, and hating Massachusetts
I just assumed everyone from the East coast sounds like there from Boston
and a weird obsessiopn with sea cockroaches
THEY"RE FUCKING DELICIOUS
Huh
People eat those????
I guess
though I cant judge because I get defensive about blue crabs and old bay even though I hate both
Whatās old bay
a seasoning that marylanders and washingtonians who are basically just marylanders obsess about
its basically just salt and paprika
Ohhh
Trying to find a picutre of me at a Lobster Cook I went to recently
lobster is so fucking good
that looks good
it is, Lobster Rolls are amazing when done right, and worth the $20 price tag
20$ is kinda nuts
not too much, for ~$10 I could get the lobster, but a lobster roll involves all the labor of shelling, whatever they top it with if they do, I prefer a bit of garlic butter on a toasted bun
that makes sense
I'd say it's probably a 100% markup on ingredients which is fair, some places charge way more though
and anywhere that sells a lobster roll with lettuce should be burned down
lobster is decently cheap where i live
where st?
Also in searching for lobster pics I saw far too many pics of me and my ex boyfriend being happy so have some pity for me
i live in very western Oregon
I would be willing to try west coast lobster
but I know the world prefers our variety
Maine's got a way with the lobstah, sweet spot fo ocean temps for good bugs and a self regulated fishery
never had east coast lobser
Now these aint minis... but gaddamn i want me some of that
Ngl I wasn't sure this was gonna turn out readable as an MVB but after I glue a big ass portal onto this thing I think it'll be fine
scary fellow
shouldnt this not matter if you are doing multiple thin coats?
isnt that like the meme of people painting is doing multiple thin coats
if you have a higher quality paint than you dont have to do as many coats
to get like, a very very vibrant and poppy color
You need it š
You ** NEED** it :3
anyone want a belisarius cawl? I kind of want to get a triumvirate of the imperium box but im not gonna even TRY to collect admech lol
What's the most terrifying thing you can have waiting for Deep Strike?
Cause I'm thinking my standard 2k point list for Imperial Knights is going to include a Cerastus Lancer in Deep Strike
Cause nothing says "Mysterious Guardian" Like a 40 foot tall robot with a 50 foot long metal rod of stabbery
You missed the chance to make the ultimate penetration joke
I'm legit planning this to be my army, there will be many openings for penetration jokes
But that would infact be terrifying to have appear behind your lines
especially cause it can appear within 9 inches, but it has 14 inch movement, can walk over anything shorter than 4 inches, and can advance and charge in the same turn
Especially as something like custodeons or grey knights where you really don't have the numbers to defend from such a sudden attack from the rear
wanna know what else is hilarious?
the Epic Cahllenge stratagem iirc, lets any character in melee range target the attached character of a unit, rather than the unit as a whole
Cerastus Lancer counts as a character
"I've decided, the Greater Good is all well and good I suppose, but I'm gonna have my Cerastus emerge from the forests of your rear line and impale your Ethereal on a spit"
That one guy running unending swarm tyranids about to send 20 termagaunts with no characters to lock your knight into melee
Like my Knight's can't melee
Oh they can but the unending warm units generally can't have leaders attached to them
I think the exceptions being gargoyles and the funny synapse gaunts
So good luck stabbing the leading character when there isn't one
Well that's more just a fuck you to them
I'm still new to the rules and mostly looked at Knights and Militarum but on a charge the Lancer can do 6 ranged attacks and 20 melee attacks
the melee all hit on 2+ and have -2 AP
Free Tank Shock stratagem FTW
also Lancer has 4+ Invulnerable without having to use the Rotate Ion Shields stratagem other Knights have to use
The Lancer is a fucking menace, it has no weakness, only overwhelming fire might take it down, there's a reason it's one of the most point heavy knights
Actually I forgot, there is a reason to get that "Fuck you" attck in, Enemy Warlords, vanquishing a Warlord is 3 CP gained for one fo the Code Chivalrics of the Knights
Is bonk stick
Youāll generally find as knights youāll struggle on objective point games, because you lack the board presence
Also your army is very susceptible to if your opponent can prioritise key targets and focus fire
I'm here for a fun time not a long time, lol
I think the biggest enemy of Knights is really the dice, few units means statistical oddities are more likely to fuck you over
Yep. Can say from experience a bad shooting phase can cost you the game
People donāt realise when playing against knights that the army has its work cut out for it right from the get go
Also their performance heavily depends upon your opponentās army
Do you play knights? wanna look at this noobs planned army list and advise?
I do have knights. Havenāt played 10th so much and I am a more narrative player but Iām happy to give it a look
So on initial inspection, you wanna swap the warglaive to have a stubber, the melta guns on knights are generally redundant. The Moirax I have no experience with but on first glance the grav will be decent but might struggle against good saves
Both Moirax will have Castigator Bondsman ability on them to help
The two castigators will have horde clearing to an art while the lancer will do deepstrike memes
which iirc gives their ranged attacks Sustained and increases AP
Brings a tear to my eye
If so thatāll be good
The only thing I can see that list struggling with potentially is armoured lists
Because most of your tank destroying is in melee, but it should work at the very least against more balanced lists
I can live with that for now
The Moirax's have more weapon options that I could swap to to focus armor, might be worth getting them magnets
Tau and guard would be the main armies to watch out for as well as other knight armies, they can pack a lot of weapons which can potentially ruin a knight
noted
Prime examples being, the hammerhead gunship, russ vanquisher (or a shadowsword) and knight Castellans
Generally speaking though, youāll want to find the enemyās prime AT and look to taking that out first
Also a cheeky warlord snipe is always something to look for
You get 3cp and a 5+ FNP
It's like playing chess but you have 5 queens
If your opponent isn't great at the game you will dominate
If your opponent is good at the game or gets very lucky you aren't going to last long
Yep, knights and chaos knights are an all or nothing army
Although knights vs knights is actually quite fun
Personally I think I'd only ever recommend knights as an allied unit
Do you ship to Australia?
That way even if they go down you have other units on stand by
i could look into it xD
(potentially) yey
who was this made for lmao
People who want fancy imperial stuff
holy shit that's TWENTY imperial navy breachers
and the euclidian starstriders killteam too
that's actually cash
and voidsman at arms
the models are great but its not really playable lol
eversor assassin is cool
i want to get a box because I just love their models
but was thinking of getting the kill team breachers box I wouldnt want 20 of them
you cant even run 20 of them in most games
Big olā box of bits for kitbashing
you can run 20 in a 2k point game but you get no other agents units
yea I bet you could make some really good skitarri out of these
I have so much stuff I need to paint still
And I've got the BattleTech Mercenaries stuff on the way eventually
I have a freakin' Lion El'Johnson I still need to get started on
A few of those command models Iād legit considered before I settled on my Greyfax
Im getting a greyfax for sure
Their cloaks are very Techno-archaeologist
I bought it to get both kill teams
Also sold 5 figures to friend who had team but lacked few specialists
I really cant decide whether to go Salamanders or Raven Guard
Don't diss my boy the eversor he is very playable
Donāt disrespect the eversor, heāll steal your skeleton while you sleep
eversor is good but running 20 breachers seems worse than running 20 of whatever your factions battleline is
like for us sororitas battle sisters are just better, cause we can get leaders and miracle dice in them
one unit seems pretty decent though
yeah I agree with the breachers being a bit bad
but can't the eversor do some funky shit with adrenalin surge allowing them to not only scout, but advance shoot and charge
they can litterally move across the entire board turn 1 to harvest your liver
Posting some traitor guard
Can confirm. Glorious to behold
Enjoying some traitor guard š
Also breachers are really strong in kill team
Where did you get those sculps or this is green staff magic?
I DO NOT OWN ANYTHING. ALL CREDIT TO THE ACTORS AND DIRECTORS. =)
Sketch comedy show in which David Mitchell and Robert Webb play multiple different characters.
Actors: David Mitchell and Robert Webb.
all of the imperium are the baddies
yes, they are very much the baddies
but there is Traitor Guard on photo
No, this is actually more important
Half tracks but the Adeptus mechanicus got their hands on them
And they were then captured by chaos
so basically the short of it is if it fails these tests, it will not get even coats when thinned, it means the paint isnt being properly dispersed meaning that you wont get even coats
what's the scale to buy historical miniatures that fit with 40k stuff
I saw somewhere that it's 1/62 or smt like that but I'm not sure
28mm heroic is what I usually see it called
28mm anything will fit as a guard proxy
heroic scale means they have big hands, heads and weapons
In case you were confused, I found the baddies.
that's a very nice kitbash
Worked on a pattern, the freehanding came out well but I got the pattern wrong LOL
Finally making some progress with this
Like the color
Oh they look good!!
How long should I wait for paint to dry
Oooh, looks like a teal layer on top of a dark metallic background, is that right? Looks very nice š
Just normal paints š Thanks!
Black, Night Blue, Dark Sea Blue and Pale Grey Blue. All Vallejo paints
what did they do to the gw website
a minute or two
before applying more paint
Thanks paint god corpse
WIP
Just transfers to do
Second try works way better
What type of weapon is that
Crisp!
Doing hypothetical Lancer v Baneblade with my mate
it's like newly painted curse, but haven't even gotten to play it in person yet
I'm making an abomination
Nurgle something?
Yes
Old black orc I painted last night
"Mass" painting of some old assault termies... still wip
How tall is lion compared to a primaris marine
He is a pretty chunky boy. Ill get a picture as soon as i get back home. Just taking the dog to the park for a bit. Need outside time lol.
He is on a 90mm base tho
Progress...
Everything about this paintjob is amazing but that ork skin is just so good
Thank you!
Isn't that good ole' Grimgor?
ah no, it's a normal black orc
Thatās the black orc boss that comes in the old WHFB black orc box- part of the command squad. The grimgor model is metal
yeah
I'm confusing because I remember my older brother who didn't know much about warhammer and just used the grimgor model as a captain for his black orc units
actually reminds me of my first minis
a squad of empire swordsmen painted in the colors of Middenheim
shame I didn't keep them
Obviously they were bad, as all first minis go, but it would have been fun to keep them to have a memento of where I started
Started some chaos space marines
Finished my little trio (I know the middle doesnāt have the true sergeant armor but I wanted to paint his head red)
Third-party morty painted for fun
2v2 match. Raven Guard and Custodes versus T'au and Tyranids
WIP āš¼(VII)
Nurgle is my dad
Marine squad deployed
I love the Beak helmet
Same
Flamer beakie is my favourite
Like to imagine he's just heard a noise whilst burning a pile of xenos
And auspex guy putting away his scanner
I love beakie with armor rivets
Something like this
..
How'd you do the concrete pillar?
Epicbasing.con had resin base pieces
Thanks big man š
Sir why are you interrupting his flaming
95% done... some details, shades and base decoration still left to do...
All done :3
Finally finished Indomitus Marines. Praise the Holy Emperor!
@plush swift need help ASAP
my cat drank some of my paint water
it has vallejo and citadel paints in it
is this toxic
Rip
i appreciate you actually answering and apologize for the tone
Itās fine
@glossy hawk hows your cat
Thatās sick
How much water? Also the cat will probably be fine in small amounts, if we're talking a lot of water then... I would have to know what colors
Generally speaking though, there isn't going to be anything that's too too bad, And if there is a problem it will be pretty immediate
probably like 10 licks or something, im not sure how many he got away with but it wasnt much
he seems to be chillin
the only really big issue is the cmit/mit which will be an allergic reaction
so I wouldnt worry that much
Drinking paint water isnt good for you, and definately noy good for a cat, but its not going to outright kill you with that amount
might be some intestinal distress
so expect that
Also you're right @plush swift I started using inks and they're actually really good
Hmm I have been trying to find an unusual mini to use as a daemon prince, Cawl is absolutely fkn huge tho isn't he?
Hmm I do wanna do a Vashtorr + Iron warriors army at some point and Cawl would work really well as a Vashtorr daemon prince, decisions
based
yeah, while they arent great for dry brushing, you caan just paint so much more easily witth them since you're not having to dilute it as much or at all
Yeah I've been mostly using vallejo black ink so far and I love how I can just use it straight out of the pot like a contrast paint and get a really solid single-coat base coat that doesn't bury the details on anything, tends to dry as if its been airbrushed too so I've just been using it as a base coat on anything I''d wanna prime black
just imagine what it would be like to use a professional ink, they tend to perform better too
Making my own space marine chapter, only a kill team for now though. This what I got so far
can you use pen ink
depends on the type of pen
some use dyes, some use pigments
you want the pigment ones not the dye ones
so if i crack a pen open i can paint a mini
probably not, most of that ink wont really stick to much and will fade quickly
š¢
Should I get custom faces for my sisters of battle
there are some nice ones on etsy
Might fuck around and do the head of my norn emissary today
nice work on the wings!
Thank you
Based? There's nothing there mate???
Another three done to rip and tear...
Second mini, new to the hobby. Never painted anything before.
It's gonna be funny
its not funny after seeing it for the trillionth time
naw, its still hilarious
It's never not funny
yes it is
this but for every warhammer joke
warhammer only has like 5 jokes though
point still stands
So nothing in warhammer is funny then
yeah at this point
im here for the models and lore not "OMG SHOVEL!!! MAID SPACE MARINE XDDDDDDD!!!!"
Then you clearly donāt understand the true meaning of warhammer
you need some of this
itās the powder they put on gun sights to make them glow
Noted
Im planning inquisition kill team but i wonder how i'll proxy couple of the models. Should i just get box of hive scum for additional bodies to fit inquisition team parts to or something else
I'd recommend weathering the transfers on the rockcrete pillar, they look too fresh on a decrepit thing like that
That's a good point. I'll splatter something on it later. Spent like two days on it and need a break lol
really like the shield paintjob btw
Appreesh!!
Starting on new Terminator Chaplain with Relic Shield tomorrow... added some BT, devastor and some other bits as slso a "sculpted" base for more detail...
Messyā¦.
the year is 42023, in the grim dark of the far future there is only estrogen xD
lmao
Has anyone ever bought the conteptor dred upgrade sprues?
First marine of my homebrew chapter done
is the head from stormcast eternal
and the body
Raided the bits box..
I hate Tyranids I hate Tyranids I hate Tyranids and painting them. How does one git gud at painting them?
I also think I may be getting a combat patrol of them at the same time
Use contrast paints
I dont have contrast paints because these are only battle ready
oh the body too???
You kitbashed it so well that I didn't even realised it
Sounds like there's a misunderstanding of what contrast paints are and what battle ready paint standard is.
The 2 methods GW suggests for battle ready paint.
Thought it was something like that. Contrast paints are also things like Army Painter Speedpaint. Shade paints are washes. GW just has to come up with their own TM name for shit.
they are also better knows as low grade transparent ink
The new gw website pisses me off
yes
its garbage
They should have hired a designer instead of a marketing team to make it
Everything in my cart is gone
Yes
I just use ebay to buy my 40k stuff, its cheaper
what I do is I browse there, then go to the actual store's website
I used Amazon
Or go to hobby shops
see going to hobby shops means I'd have to leave my house
and that means I'd have to you know... drive an hour
Itās impossible for hobby shops not to be a inconvenience to go to
They always so far away
yep
because the places where they wouldnt be would cost too much
Yep
hey thanks, I really tried to go all out for this dude
arco flagellents are just straight up better than repentia in every way but then i don't get to have a horde of half naked nuns suicidally cutting demons in half with 6 foot tall chainswords...
that's a damn ork in a looted power armor
Lameā¦
The Australian eBay experience "Wow that's a great price! Oh crap shipping is $50 never mind"
This is the way!
Buy contrast paints and they're the easiest models in the entire game to paint, literally just dump two colours on the top and bottom right out of the pot and then paint the eyes + a couple highlights and they're parade ready
America's spaced out car centric layout is a nightmare for 90% of things I'ma be real, Australia isn't really any better, we're built almost exclusively around private vehicle ownership and having massive stretches of travel between yourself and any given thing you might want is such an issue that no one ever wants to talk about
I live in the southern US,which means we have no infrastructure for anything but driving
Also laws that prevent you from doing anything but driving
Corpse I accidentally found your yt
Yeah its super similar in Australia
WA NT and QLD are pretty much the same as texas in regards to how much space is just empty desert you're expected to drive right through
Hell up here in the state that doesn't exist. Most towns/city are 100 miles apart
Question:
Terminators got Teleport Homers ability to deep strike into battlefield. So when you set up those Homers e.g. in a 2 k battle you can still have 500 pts on reserves that are not fielded on table?
I'm a bit confused cuz homers say you can put units in reserve and core rules say you may only have 500 pts in reserves on 2k battle...
So a buddy of mine has opinion that deep strike ability is apart from the reserves point limit cuz you set up the homers at start of battle... Other buddy says "nup dude they add to reserve points cuz squads are not fielded"...
And now i'm sitting here and want to get some knowledge cuz it would be also interesting for me... Next battle i want to make is a 2k one and i want to field 2x Terminator squad and 1x Assault Terminators + 2x Chaplain in Terminator armor as also a Captain in Terminator armor...
When their points add up to the reserves limit of 500 points i can't deepstrike all 3 of those squads with attached leader into battle cuz they have more points than the limit..
And i'm also a bit tired of the ongoing argument between my buddies...
šµ
Deep striking is a method of entering from reserves, much like outflanking, at least in the old rules
Ye old rules.. but i'm talking about 10th edition and it drives me a bit nuts to have not a clear answer to the "problem"
Had this issue very recently.
The core book doesn't say a deep strike limit. But I believe the fold out card in the mission decks has the answers
Then in need to get mission deck XD... But ye, core book don't give a deep strike limit, thats the valid point of the one buddy...
Reserves are different for each game mode š but I'm fairy sure it's half.
I may have a pic, but it's a bad one
I'm glad to get any help i can get... The argument of the 2 dudes is exhausting...
yup this helps much
Funny enough I just had a rules issue pop in my head.
Does precision get around lone op
So the buddy of mine with setting teleport homers is right.. cuz models are not nearly half of his army and he has not even other reserves xD
Flagellents are also super scary lorewise
In a book I read some tau stumbled across a pool of bloated corpses just for all of them to rise up revealing themselves as flagellents and slaughtering them in a drug rage
Had the same problem at my store like two weeks ago lol
And then came the walkers whose name I keep forgetting
Did the GW staff said anything?
No
It's an lgs lol so it took a min.
Luckily I know one of the Vegas judges and hit him up
Woo ty. Just wanted a second opinion for I am smooth brain
Here's the reserve rule as well
So reads for me like that deep strike units just set up their homer and get into battle when the commander wants it and done...
I love that they have to clarify no deepstriking a building š¤£
Uhm yeah... would be... funny or so to deepstrile a mf building xD
I do miss landing drop pods on enemy units
Nice so my bud and also me can set up our termies with deep strike... coolio
this was funny... In DOW rts i had learned the right timing so enemy units literally ran into my drop pods i called xD
Hell ya!
Was funny... me sends dread to drop.. enemy: walk there aaand suddenly a dread crushed into infantry XD
You can but they count towards the 25% limit for reserve units
The termies need to be in reserves to activate the teleport homer rapid ingress stratagem
Okay.. makes things a bit more difficult but good to know
this reminds me of that level in front of the big door
i hate that daemonhost that spawns on the bridge 90% of the time
@brisk vapor so i would set up Chaplain & assault Termies as also Razorback + Devastors into strategic reserve... rest would be fielded... Dunno if this setup would make sense:
The metalfab one where you restart the foundry?
Also BEHOLD
ETSY KNOCK-OFF...whatever the jumpy Tau battlesuits are called.
XV-88, I think
yea I think so. i get the different areas mixed up a lot
i like the poses very nice
Thank ye
Most of the fancy legs are supposed to be for making the things look like they are mid-jump, but the feet have very few points of contact
So that shit wouldn't be stable
They look like what a newly conquered Imperial world would produce before their engineers get sent off for further re-education
I mean, the faction of Imperial Guard I have is based around the idea of an Imperial world resisting the Tau while being stuck somewhere in the middle of their Enclaves
So they have no support, no supply lines beyond what they can produce, so they end up stealing a lot of Tau stuff to make ends meet. Even have a Looted Hammerhead painted in their colours
Also somehow forgot the group shot
I remember you talking about that backstory
I also later got annoyed because I did some research into it and discovered that the Tau Enclaves are so fucking small and their systems are built so fucking tall that it's fucking impossible to properly fit that in
Oh yeah, Farsight Enclaves are literally just 4 worlds near the Damocles gulf
Adsault Terminator squad Olav on duty!
I think that might work if your Imperial world was in Imperium Nihilus, right near the Nem'yar Atoll. It's very newly colonised by the T'au and is also the focus of their most recent expansions. Since Nihilus is kinda "every man for themselves" right now, I could see an Imperial world there getting stuck trying to hold off T'au expansion there almost on their own with no support.
It's even worse because just for the absolute hell of it I decided that My Dudes also unknowingly house an Eldar population on their world because they're so used to aliens being actually alien that human-enough aliens get a pass because they're so strapped for manpower.
Said Eldar also being stuck on the planet because their Craftworld crashed there and then everything else kinda happened so they decided 'fuck it' and are just riding everything out, occasionally sending their militia out to help the Imperials.
And the Imperials have long since become accustomed to the sight of Wraithbone that they just think it's absolutely normal
That makes up 390 points if only those are in reserves so it would work
only 390? Assault Termies are 195 Chaplain in Termie armor 75, razorback 95 and devs 120
And those guys are so strapped for manpower they're taking hints from Iyanden and just have a ton of fuckin' Wraith constructs marching around, getting away with the excuse that they're just Really Fancy Servitors and you Imperials just Shouldn't Worry About It
Razorback doesn't go into reserves
It's fielded, the unit inside it is counted as reserves
And because there's no Space Marines to help out but plenty of stories about them, and a fuckload of T'au Battlesuit parts lying around...
That sounds like exactly the sort of thing a crashed Craftworld might do while trying to survive
These guys are actually normal humans in Power Armour so jury-rigged it'd give the average tech-priest a hard RROD
And even if it did that would make 465 which would still be under 500p
huh? i thought i can set up razorback in reserves so that it can move on battlefield sometime else in battle
Which is why the only Tech Priests on the planet are Xenarites, because they overthrew literally everyone else because they knew a good thing when they saw it and like HELL were they letting the orthodoxy have all the fun and consequently get everyone fucking killed
Oh in that case it is in reserves, I understood you counted it for the reserves even if you had it in the field but filled with troops. Anyways it's still under 500p even with the Rback
So this one world is just a massive fucking den of all kinds of Heresy, and the ultimate irony is that they're trying to rejoin the Imperium
kk... Then i think i have a "dynamic" 2k list on Black Templars to face imperial guard next time xD
That also would work really well in Nihilus, because nobody from Terra is sending the inspection crew there any time soon while they barely hold open Nachmund
Yey
Though the issue is that this was probably going on for a damn long time.
Actually on that note, the Warp Storm that sheltered T'au from Imperial Settlers - did that just cover the system, or did it cover about the entire area the Enclaves make up?
You mean the one that appeared shortly after they were initially surveyed and marked for Exterminatus?
Yup
At that time the T'au were still just a backward culture on their single homeworld.
The one that's the entire reason they get to exist
The storm covered their whole system
But by the time it cleared they were a highly advanced techno-race rapidly spreading an empire
Ah, so just the system and not the whole Enclave area
So it is possible for an Imperial colony to be nearby and just kinda forgotten about
I'm not sure what you mean by Enclaves, because that term is only used for Farsight's little splinter territory
The T'au themselves are an enclave in the Imperium's territory
Ah right, that's what you mean
Definition from a google search:
"a portion of territory surrounded by a larger territory whose inhabitants are culturally or ethnically distinct."
I thought they were only sorta surrounded North, West and South
So rather than having a border with two or more other empires, the Tau are SURROUNDED
The problem is East is Hive Fleet Gorgon who they've been fighting for a few centuries
Yeah, based on the map I just checked, the Imperium isn't really east of them in the Eastern Fringe
At least no worlds important enough to get names marked
The Tau are about in the middle of Ultramar
Actually nvm, they're a little ways north
But there's like
three or four Space Marine chapters based on their doorstep, or a few jumps away
Which may become a big problem if Roboute wasn't so busy running around putting out a bilion little fires everywhere else
Absolutely ship map and not the first one I used, but this is the one that came up
The splodge to the south is Ultramar
The orange dots are Tau worlds
Green are Ork strongholds
Red ones are Chaos
Grey ones...might be contested?
I think this is an 8th edition map
That's where they fought Abaddon to stop him taking the Blackstone Fortress there and ending 12th crusade
Makes sense it's pretty much just military after that
this makes me think, would it be possible to kitbash an assault termi using the new terminators?
ngl that's something i like more about fantasy than 40k. everyone is way less racist so soup armies actually make sense and you could have dwarves in your empire army or wood elves with your bretonnians. slannesh daemons with your dark elves. there was a lot you could do.
in 40k no one can ally with anyone outside of fluff and it all reads like what you wrote. a bunch of hoops to jump though instead of people elves and humans just chilling out for 1 second to fight their common enemy.
Frankly, I'm just glad someone isn't yelling HERESY at me for it all
I know it's all dumb and the entire reason for it began as me wanting to give railguns to Guardsmen
The shallow justifications came later
i like fantasy as a setting a lot. its basically a cheap 80s pulpy version of tolkiens world.
GW just needs actual rules for gue'vesa
maybe like a blood Brothers type rule
and tbh in GSC its not worth it to take any IG units afaik
so its mostly for fluff
and then you just kitbash the tau parts on ig models
Honestly my only experience with Fantasy is Vermintide 2 and Tariff's TWWH shitposts
All I know is Kruber is someone I want to share a beer with
Oh, and Rats have nukes for some reason
fantasy is a lot more of a vibrant actual world.
even norscans can just travel around the empire adventuring
(basically chaos humans)
Ye
there is trade and diplomacy between the factions instead of complete total war, genocide and ultra racism
I read a bit somewhere that a Kurgan trader was just kinda chilling being a trader, and explained to a guy that most Norscans are usually pretty chill, but when the Gods call for war, everyone answers
like the high elves imo are WAY cooler than craftworld eldar
drukhari are way better than dark elves though.
Dark Elves are literally just Edgelords
and obviously there are more factions in fantasy
slannesh is a lot more basic in fantasy
Cathay, Tomb Kings, Lizards, The French, etc.
cathay isn't really a thing tbh
its awesome that total war expanded them so much
ogres, goblins, VAMPIRE PIRATES, mercenaries
of course everyone LOVES the skaven
id say they should make skaven a thing in 40k except it seems to me the don't really support space dwarves all that well
Man-thing don`t uncover our sabotage-plot
I honestly want to get some Stormfiends
Looking at my wood aelves gives me such mixed emotions lol.
i LOVE the wood elves
BURN THE GREATE TREE
They are a fun time capsule.
Part of me wants to repaint em.
2nd army ever.
First fantasy army
BURN THOSE WOOD ENTS
I still have 3 boxes of the old citadel trees sitting around from those days
i honestly am just a fluff nerd... I'm literally as of the last few months painting my first miniatures
I think I will prime my CSM today
Ooh same. If it's got good lore I'm in
i can't prime because i work nights and sleep days and its fall
thinking of building a venting hood out of cardboard
Cheapo air brush for winter priming?
Oooh darn
I'm going to paint my first palatine this month when it comes in š
Oooh those models are sic
in going to start collecting sororitas and work my way up to a sororitas themed imperial knight
There's some amazing 3D printed kits for that idea
i want fleur de lys, censors, candels all over it. maybe a church organ thing on the back of i could figure it out
i saw a stained glass cathedral looking knight on YouTube but i want something more chivalric less church
I saw a kit makes the knight look like fluted Gothic plate armor... almost bought a knight just for it
was it this?
No but I believe it's the same store
I like the round shields
yea, the round heraldric symbol is a nice look
I was painted with @manic shard so there's pox walker selfie with necron's accelerator
Halfwayish done rogal dorn that I will not eat
Found it after a while. Definitely not how I recalled it's look.
I like the helmet piece
Found some old model pics digging for that and disturbing memes
One thicc af edge highlight and no others š¤£š¤£š¤£
eat it.
live up to your name.
well cooked bottomless plastic with citadel sauce is a delicacy
there is no reason for someone to NOT eat it
(XD, I'm just fooling around. I can't even tell whether it is completely finished or halfway done. It just looks that good)
The warhammer version of: Is it cake?
This is very truth bomb I am simply too scared of the sharp pieces
Appreciate the kindness though š
If you wonāt eat it then I will
Looking good tho
Are sprues the diet plastic flavor?
I tried a lot of polyethylene before but I haven't tried much polystyrene, looking forward to them
I'd love to try some resin but they are too expensive and brittle, heard they get lots of holes
Trying some freehand "rune tattoo" type stuff on my MVB proxy, not exactly neat or finished but it'll look fine once it's done
Painting in progress
Crimson Fist Lieutenant w/ Storm Shield
That looks cool dude
Are stat same flavor reskins usually allowed or frowned upon?
Cause Imp Knight meta really encourages Vindicares, but I thought it'd be cooler to hero forge up some Big Game Hunters with the same stats
squig body is done, paint time
What colour would be a good recommendation for this coat do you reckon?
wow lol
Corvus black? perhaps?
It'll be more a grey then a blue
but not as absolute as abaddon
Finished my beastboys, need to wait a little bit for basing material to come innthe mail to finish bases
Had a little accident with skin wash on last dude with the chain sword but i dont wanna strip and restart
I will keep corvus in mind, I may try and find soemthing more akin to the blue-ish hue like in the image. Perhaps as a layer for corvus im not sure
I just got some grenadier proxies and thats what I want them to look like
is there a way to strip paint in just a specific area or will it just make a big mess?
Its likely to make a mess. I wouldnt say its too late to go back and repaint the area and repeat the process
i thought about maybe just repainting his chest and face white and try again but i imagine it will kill a lot of the fine details
Perhaps but its better than having it look messy
I have an entire apothecary i wanna strip and start over cos i hate the direction i took with it
i feel like i stumbled on the finish line, didnt let paint dry completely before going in again, kinda sucks
dont really feel like starting all over again, maybe ill try to do two really thin white coats and try again
yes, but you have another issue, it will look incredibly uneven
as there will be a gap there and a noticable one
and if you're trying to remove just the wash, unless you used an isolation coat, then it will affect the layers below
aight screw it, ill just make his beard fuller, give the goat dude a proper goatee to cover up some damage
you CAN try a bit of IPA on a qtip but you need to be insanely careful
gods, he looks even more goofy now
looks melted because of all the paint
ill just let him stay that way as a lesson š
How do you paint blood affects
you mean the red scars/wounds?
that is just volupus pink contrast paint over the scar
Wip on base for terminator chaplain
nice flagstones
Completely hand sculptedxD
I regret glueing my dudes onto the base lol š«
Will all do this mistakes (I also glued mines)
You live and u learn š
Except I don`t plan to give them decorated bases so I do not suffer
THE FUNNY PART WILL BEGIN TOMORROW WHEN PRIMER WILL DRY
Time to start a new set, im really tempted to dunk that dude in alcohol tho
Which one š¤š¤š¤
I think id like to do the orks the most but maybe i should practice some on the sets i like the least
Nah like blood on a sword
maybe i should go for them, looks like it could be fun š¤
i just put a little blood for the blood god paint here and there, sometime i flick the end of the brush to make a blood splatter
Couldnt help myself, the targeted paint removal worked better than i expected i think i can work with this š¤
Brush on some thin white primer and it shouldnt be too bad
What happened that made you want to strip his face?
messed up during the painting phase, tried to touch it up but just ended up being too many layers of paint which removed all the fine details of the model
would've been fine if i had waited a bit, it all started more or less because i didnt wait for the contrast paint to dry completely before attempting to highlight
Ah, gotcha. A shame. I hope it goes well next time.
Same thing actually happened to my ork, I accidentally gave his face a coat of unthinned paint, I pulled it from the wrong pool on my wet pallete.
I am eternally angry
š
Hardcore Warhammer painting: Use real blood to paint your Blood Angels
i actually had to abort right now, the guy is now sitting in a glass full of alcohol
i tried to spray wraithbone primer into a pool to brush onto the model, but that didn't go as planned, turns out you can't do that š
lmfao
primer turns chunky as hell immediately
Naughty miniatures go in the depainting liquid
man this sucks, everything went well before the very last steps
BlƄrens it is called here in Norway, it is just dyed 99% alcohol
That's a pretty fancy glass to ruin with acrylics š
as long as you give it a good cleaning after it should be fine id assume
I personally wouldn't ever drink out of the glass again but that's just me
I'm iffy on that stuff
š
ive been asking this a lot and it seems if you are in the US GW tournaments arent really a thing and non GW tournaments don't mind proxies.
there are some really cool 3rd party models
and stuff like heroforge
Cool shit
Do you need to buy killteam sets to play kill teams
Some teams can be pretty efficently made out of non kill team boxes
There are also compendium teams that are made out of standard 40k units
Depends on ur friend, could play with pieces of paper id youd like
so can one post AoS stuff here as well or is it just 40k? Cuz I've only painted Warcry stuff lately
My friend seeing me paint a Great Unclean one :
I'd go Eshin Grey for that. Here's how it looks on one of my Fire Warriors. It was actually a bit darker than I expected/wanted so planning to go brighter myself, but you do get a hint of the blue-grey in it
Some of my tyranids have my own blood on becuase they are SHARP
Steps don scale green
Stegadon***
Tyvm, Older work. Wish i still had him around.
I painted a bug head
No problem
When I had to press the Stinger carapace down on my Tervigon I drew blood haha
Push fit orks ruined my entire week, my fingers were numb and sore from being pricked so bad
think this is worth it?
Like in-game or as a kit? bc imo it's like 10-15 more to get a much nicer and more customizable kit with more spare bits to use later
both
Not sure if they're actually strong or not we only have one guywho plays sisters and he's super new
what kit?
Sisters tend to almost never be bad but they're kinda at the mercy of the dice sometimes (they also have an ability that lets you cheat dice in a dice game so it's not all bad)
what about their faith system
Like the noviatiates kill team box is essentially an upgraded version of the regular troop box with better sculpts
ohhh
Not too sure about their actual gameplay tbh
i ordered a sister squad and im just wondering how i should expand my army
Space commies started
Just buy what you like essentially, my friend just started playing sisters and he's gotten both boxes + the immolator bc they're the models he liked most
thanks
I made a mini' of my Zealot from the bits box š
Yoo I should make my psyker
yeah go for it.
My son now wants me to make a mini of his Vet'. I ordered some Poxwalkers for them to bash up...
I havenāt posted anything here in a while cuz I took a long time not painting, but before I stopped I did this techpriest
Coulda did a better job on some bits but it was 100% improvement from my old models
just go back and upgrade it when you get time
I think I should have made the glowing green cracks more angular to give it that "awaking tombworld" vibe but live and learn
Do noise marine minis actually exist or are they something I need to bash together myself
There is/used to be a Noise Marine mini, but I think it's a commemorative one.
Should still be able to get it, but haven't checked in like. 6 months.
Ah, the actual mini I was thinking of is still listed.
It's out of stock at the moment though
You can also get upgrade packs, but judging by the looks of things you also have to buy some CSMs to actually have something to use them with
question, if I get old marine weapons, do they still fit to primaris marines?
like, if I grab a bunch of weaponrys for 30k and give them to primaris, does it fit properly?
Probably not, I'd say
If you mean the new Horus Heresy stuff, you might get away with it - especially stuff that only uses two separate limbs.
But anything that's got two limbs attached to one object you might run into slight issues.
Then again I don't actually have any Primaris stuff, and the only SM stuff I have are some Scouts that were the first things I ever painted, and mah beakies
Took this imperial fist hero and made him into a world eater champion for my khrone berserk sqaud
its fine if you wash it out, just remember that it is technically illegal to dump acrylic paint down the sink as it kills aquatic life
but you'd need to dump several thousand gallons for it to actually matter
the exact chemical components will look like this:
Binder(this is generally polyurethane, sometimes with some polybutyl acetate and/or some polyvinyl acetate mixed in)
pigment(this in a lot of cases is just washed dirt or rust, but you have tons of random chemicals for that, check artiscreation or kremer for more info)
Biocide(cmit/mit is the most common)
silicone oil
ammonia
Surfactant(most common is orotan)
sheen agent(like fumed silca or something)
and a few other random chemicals that arent that harmful
Fun fact you are explicitly banned from using your own (or anyone else's) body fluids on your mini in any capacity, it's for exactly the reasons you'd think
its fugitive and unstable in paint
so not hardcore at all, if you want hard core, undertone shadows with mummy brown then do the reds with carmine
one is made from mummies, the other is made from a crushed insect
I wanna know if the rule was brought about because of the guy who brought daemonettes covered in baby gravy or the nurgle player who's mini may as well have been rolled through a sewer (This shit happened in official tournaments btw)
it was the one who used rat guts for gore iirc
sanest warhammer painter
I've heard so many absolutely putrid stories about this stuff lol chaos players are fucking unhinged and I'm glad I have the subtype that makes me put eyeballs, sand and feathers on stuff instead of going full degen
You also have the subtype that would want us to think that.
i have heard people else where say they built all their sororitas characters out of the bits in the box but that feels too advanced too me. also its a really pretty kit to just cut up to glue onto battle sisters to make palatine, canoness, imagifier etc.
okay, then I'll need a LOT of kitbash
I'll be starting my collection legit after one or two years due to my studies so I hope FW releases some decent weapons for HH that is compatible with primaris
thanks a lot, I love this community
Did they ever put out a Datasheet for Vitrian Messinius?
im gonna kiss you
why did you find a guide to do it?
Nah
Iām bashing a couple of the Combat Patrol sisters/arcos/repentias into Skitarii and servitors myself
Scraping the fleur de lis off of every model is a pain though
arcos would make great servitors, i could see that for sure
I canāt say theyāre uh, the most traditional looking servitors
But I donāt actually play tabletop so not an issue
how is collecting World Eaters?
should I just wait for their codex and new units?
i like their style, the melee and stark red
but theres like 5 datasheets for them
feels like their all Assault Intercessors
and that gets mega boring
for painting
well, if I know correct they got some rework at end of 9th edition
from what I heard, it should be okay to collect world eaters now
I think waiting for the christmas pack will be the best choice
keep it in mind, I don't collect miniatures fully for now
I have a world eaters army they're great and painting them is fun there's more variety in paints than you think
plus angron is a beautiful model
Uh oh, crack time
Sloppy draft but this is the heraldry I'm planning for my Knights of the Pine Grove
yeah it is supposed to come with the model in the box, correct me fi im worng but im pretty sure hes an ultra marine only model in 9th
FUCK YEAHHHH
I looked around more and he's just meant to be played as a space marine captain of any chapter
Which if you ask me, is a huge disservice to the right hand uberman of Roboute Guilliman, leader of Crusade Fleet Tertius, armed with auramite power fist and refined plasma pistol
Trying to figure out the layering needed to hit that brown color
Wait now that I look at it, might just be mournfang brown
Yeah itās fun
What putty do you use
I believe that leg was leftover from one of my first blue stuff tests, and I only used straight Milliput Standard
Forgot I had this gal rattling around in my bits box
Dunno if Iām gonna be able to kitbash this one
dont worry, you'll hate me very quickly after I talk about paint chemistry at you
We love corpse paint rants
Thatās some thick paint
Wasn't me I swear
Thin thy paints
I think someone gave her to me way back when I was first checking out a local GW
Would've been before they stopped selling Battle For Macragge considering I got that for Christmas that year
She's actually older than I am lmao
Oh wait nvm I can't maths
Year younger
Thatās like 2 probably
She's got a ©GW99 on the base
Damn
No
Want to see something I painted with imposto paints?
these are thicker than heavy bodied paints
I did it to fuck with the "thin your paints" crowd
Thin thy paints
Sometimes thicker paint is the best paint, depends what you are painting and the look you want. Some of the 'rules' these days are rather one dimensional for sure xD
Based
Playing some compendium only Killteam at the weekend so made these Metamorphs to go with the little guys.
the rules are created by outsider artists for non-artists then corrupted by the non-artists for new painters
this is impasto
hyper thick structure paint
unthinned
just... learn brush control
thats also a transparent paint
that is the kind of stuff i would use to put some texture in the finish
I did it just to screw with people
that's valid too.
they kept telling me its impossible to do X, I do X
Dont tell someone with a doctorate in art something is impossible when its not
'Impossible' would never be the right word anyway, you can paint them with yoghurt if you wants nothing will stop you!! the over reliance on contrast /speed paints is a bit crazy. Easy to do it yourself and end up with something less 'paint by numbers' looking. It is OK to have your own style, conformity is a great limiter...
I donāt have a doctorate in art but I still think yogurt might be a bad idea
Unless youāre doing something nurgle-y then I could see it working
all painting is paint by numbers, its just how you define those numbers is the key
drawing is just fancy writing of letters
the mysticism of art is only there because people choose to think its complicated
its not
Anyone got a good NMM guide for steel swords?
Color theory... now thats an insanely complicated subject that people overly simplify
yeah, but depends on what you're after, do you want realistic or the generic mini painter?
Colour theory is like music theory
Complicated asf but also intuitive enough that it doesn't matter, I don't need to understand the mathematic interactions between polyrhythms to play one but it helps
I'm painting a unit of 20 swordmasters of hoeth and I'd like the swords to standout, I've not done NMM prior
Like you can participate in it without needing to know the finer workings of it as long as you can tell what looks good
color theory isnt that intuitive with the whole "you use red and green to make purple" thing and you use blue and yellow to make brown
honestly, TMM is the exact thing as NMM in terms of methods but you can hide the imperfections more
TMM?
true metallic metal
oh only heard of that in passing
it gives the same effect as NMM but it looks better from all directions instead of just one
I have a weird type of autism where I'm very aware of the sub-colours that make up a full colour (I know I'm not explaining that properly but you know what I mean) so it's intuitive to me ig
NMM looks impressive on instagram but in person its not very nice
TMM is using metallic paints correct, fundamentally?
it only looks good from one specific angle
Like the idea that greys are massively different depending on what colour they're tinted with has always seemed like a pretty natural, observable thing
i mean same, I can color match anything and look at a color and beable to tell you what pigments are in it
Yeah its pigments I'm thinking of, I hate not having the terminology to explain myself I'm smart I swear
kind of, you're basically doing highlights and glazes with different metallics over normal paint
Got seriously into art and painting too late in life lmao
the real trick to NMM isnt to use opaque paint, you want super transparent paint
Ah, I believe I've dabbled then just didn't know the proper name
I'm not smart so dont worry
its actually what wins slayerswords more often than NMM fun fact
NMM just looks more impressive to novice painters
I see nmm all the time at work, so it just sort of is ignorable to me
NMM really does look good on instagram lol that's so true
