they arent... thats just people who dont shake their paint at all talking
like ninjon never shook his paint before a vortex mixer
we have actual proof of this too
God gift to painters was dirty down rust. That shit is gourmet 🥴
Lol i saw a video of that rust, looks insane
7 17ml bottles is enough to kill an adult malle
its also a hazmat item and incredibly deadly
I kind of wish i had it to rust the weapons of the gors 🤔
you have to take the rinse water to hazmat after due to it containing a highly toxic forever chemical
I remember the story you said about someone licking their brush to wet it with that stuff on it. Still makes me laugh
YOU DO NOT SEE TYBEROS OF THE RED WAKE
That still bugs me to this day
carcharodons yeeea
What is this? It’s a dead marine on a base? Am I missing something here?
It is a red corsair rethinking his life choices since the badab war
you can make a less toxic version out of ink and baking soda
Hope that goes well for him 😄
like typhus corrosion is literally just brown paint with baking soda in it
Fr though that’s a masterful kitbash!
His ass will be grass
And his pants full of poop
*it was just literally tyberos bits from the FW model stuck onto the new terminators model
I know, just works so well!
Looking forward to kitbashing my new termi chaplain for my first company
i've built mine
Oooo
Oh?
lancer
I wish I had a 3d printer
I'd make a big pile bunker
convert her to be more like an AC
had a thought
@rare hornet might change the crozius into a long-handled power sword
like a zweihander-style two-handed weapon
Ooo that would look awesome
Zweihänder or Gassenhauer?
The Gassenhauer would be a bit longer but looks also dope
Thoughts on this then
Or should I just keep the crisis
Crozius
@jaunty trail @rare hornet
looks good to me
just a nob
Orm
Kitbashed a judiciar with that model of the montu
The blue and black go well together
Current progress on the auto turret, the colors are blending well and I love how it’s turning out
With flash^
So , how did it go?
This is cleeeean, where’d that sword come from I recognise it but can’t put my finger on it
My assumption is either grey knights or Black Templar
Nah I don’t own either of them
But I know I have that sword
My guess is the leviathan terminator captain iirc
My brain is big
Well would you look at that
Honor weapon of the Captain in Terminator armor.
Yeah I worked that out 😋
My workstation
ah i didnt even see that because discord on my phone takes ages to load images
It's fun to try and guess the army someone's painting based on the colors here
Its maybe sisters or space marines?
Space Marines and Tyranids at the moment
The sisters were a failed first attempt at painting, just did the three and recently i tried getting back into the hobby with the starter set
I have a kreig (from the KT box) that I use as a test model for paints. Its always nice having little Hans in case I can't visualise how it might look on a soldier
I dread having to paint all the Termagaunts still
Be greatful you aren't doing a full 2000 point army of tyranids
I love him
Paint idea is based on the character lhorke is one of the 4 I'm working on, but thank you 🙂
I eventually do want to get there
that is fair, but tyranids being tyranids will probably mean you'll end up with even more termagaunts, I have a 2000 point army planned and it has like 40 termagaunts and somewhere around 95 models in total
swarm armies are fucking terrifying on the numbers front
this is the planned army
characters:
neurotyrant (leading neurogaunts depending on situation/mood)
winged hive tyrant (warlord)
winged tyranid prime (leading gargoyles)
winged tyranid prime (leading ranged warriors)
battle line:
10 gargoyles (1 squad)
40 termagants (4 squads)
infantry:
10 barbagaunts (2 squads)
11 nerougaunts (1 squad)
6 von ryan leapers (2 squads)
3 zoanthropes (1 squad)
3 warriors with ranged bio-weapons (1 squad) (1 venom cannon and 2 deathspitters)
swarms:
4 ripper swarms (2 squads)
monsters:
psychophage
psychophage
screamer killer
tyrannofex
I'm probably gonna spend more on paint than I am plastic XD
Gah. You guys make me ashamed of my painting process. I can only do 5 models at a time and it takes me a month to do them.
I'll go up to around 750 first. Neurotyrant and Screamer Killer are on their way, for Space Marines i want to add an Apothecary Biologis, a Ballistus Dreadnought and either an Aggressor or Eradicator Squad
Because none of my friends are into the hobby i'll slowly develop both my Space Marine and Tyranid army so i can still play with people
I'm on my way to the game lol
Live updates from yours truly

You shall win the favour of the Dark Gods
do you know what you're playing against?
Death guard
Crab told me the whole tactic and battleplan yesterday
Gonna show this guy the power of internal and external bleeding
Good luck then!
Thank you random guy 10 numbers
Oh shit the death guard infected my guns
looks like some Tzeentch stuff
or maybe even Slaanesh
I want to unsee that
I am here, and store staff say the guy I'm playing against has won awards for being a good happy person
Ayy
If you see this guy
run.
try not to get your units in his line of sight
Hold your nose
Because if he sees you it means all DG weapons with Inderct Fire will fire on your units that he sees with no penalties
and +1 to hit
Lord Of Virulence
anyway how's your match going?
Are ya winning?
have you fell victim to the space dioreha
Oh god he has Mortarion and a lord of virulence
na na na na na na na na na na na we're completely fucked (completely fucked) we're completely fucked
Mortarion gives buffs around himself
and has a pretty solid melee
Is there any Plagueburst Crawlers?
When in doubt a stubborn learn stand to the death is always an option
ok so from what I can tell his army is very elite so you should hopefully out number him
This is exactly how DG plays out right know
On the plus side it makes keeping out of the aura easier
Yes if he doesn’t drop his terminators in the right spot
How's the macth going?
Thanks man, was from the terminator captain from leviathan.
Looks gorgeous! Excellent bash
Ah yes mass violence, enjoy
I lost
did you have fun at least?
🦀 You spilled the blood for the blood god?
I spilled blood
In the eyes of khorne if blood was spilled you won
honestly killing 60% of his stuff is really good if he had 4 burst crawlers and a damn primarch
I remember playing against Aeldari Melee Army
Most DG players are
Next time I play him I gotta take some nids or something
You are too kind :3
I really need to get my full army going
I had cultist squad and couple squads of legionaries , enemy had Aeldar Avatar of Khaine and a lot Banshes and Scorpions
results
I have only ever played 2 matches of warhammer in 2018 and they where incredibly small games
Before this game id played guard and nid 1,000 against the same marine player
Lost both
I only lost this game because I forfeited because I had to go home early from a hazardous weather warning
I remember one of them I somehow ended up in a weird situation where the enemy physically couldn't hit me and I could only hit on 6's
Bet I could have won from objectives
Was a cinematic scene where my Chaos Lord stands in front of Avatar of Khaine with half of it`s wounds and a lot dead bodies lying around
damn, you better rematch the fool when the weather improves
Played against Imperial Knights and Vashtorr almost killed Knight in meleehttps://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1130498532957225011/1148991580699635863/386.png?ex=654263cc&is=652feecc&hm=b81a86a21d2ba205d8bae569926bf623fe34512c76ac5a51231285482684f39c&
||I think I may have figured out my tyranid's colour scheme as well||
YEEAAAAA
welcome to the hive fleet
yeah I just need to start buying XD
hopefully my practice on totally different factions will be handy
I thought about colour scheme for my homebrew Chaos Space Marines

I think they would look like Necrons/Iron Warriors
Mainly grey
I think I'm going to go for a pretty simple black carapce and purple flesh
Here goes my finished entry to the Halloween painting contest at my local warhammer store
If I had too pick my 2 best models so far it would be these 2
Metal on this Ork Chopper look GOOD
Ironically enough I got the chopper by entering the overlord as a submission in a painting contest
the rest of my stuff is either boring or has horribly obvious gaps in the paint (my house has damp issues)
or is one of my dreaded first models (weirdly a squad of only 2 blood angels with jump packs) where I may not have known about paint thinning

I finished my first Warhammer mini, prolly should have done a smaller one, but for my first time I like how it turned out
looks like it just finished driving through civilians
the theme was horror so i thought i would do it up
this is a really good first attempty
the base is top teir
but your paint on your models is WAY to thick. Think the consistency of milk and you will get a MUCH smoother application
Fair
I’ll have to try it out for the next two
I’m hoping to refine my painting before I get to my Krieg because I want them to look good
i love krieg
They look so cool
These are my Kreig
That is dope
TY
I wanna keep the winter theme with my Militarum since most of the army’s I see are just your average green men, plus I love the winter
feel free to pm me if you need any advice or tips. i almsot paitned my kreig that way but changed my mind i dont remeber why
Fair, I’m always down for some advice or tips, I just painted the shoulder armor for my heavy Bolter dudes and wet the paint more than I did with the Autocanon crew, so far it’s looking a lot better
Do I want to strive for the primer to show through?
no thats a little too thin but its not a problem because you can just do another coat. you can always add more coats to get coverage but you cant remove it as easily.
also if your brush is a little damp before you go into the paint it will slide off the brush easier.

In this weeks video, I talk about the most basic miniature painting techniques that you probably didn't know about! Things like how to thin your paint, how to correctly apply your paint, and more! This video is sponsored by Fart Q...
here is a good example from 1:15 to 2:49
My first mini (unfortunately missing one cube)
got a box of immortals + this chronomancer
do you have tesseract glow?
thats a nice combo as well.
Thanks for this, I have another video to criticize during class... this has a lot of disinformation...
ok go for it have fun!
Yo i've seen this a couple of times where can i play this?
mean?

This is helpful
We do, the students seem to enjoy this stuff.
Better than beating them down and telling them they'll never become artists and how art school is worthless for them... They'll learn that on their own
encountering a lot of people going to art school to paint minis now and coming in with a lot of bad practices and concepts
Chapter master complete what yall think
Chapter “Carrion Lords”
Yes ik not the greatest painter lol
Current progress on Heavy Bolter Squad
Looks dope
My order came in!
Just after 11
I've been busy working on a mini
Sergeant in progress and sergeant done
oh that looks cash
Gotta do some highlighting and the base and we’re good
I’m stuck on how I wanna paint the knights of the raven, I’m thinking either literally just airbrushing gun metal or silver other the whole think and speed paint white over that. Or start with white and airbush silver over
if you our doing a gunmetal silver. then do a black primer so the silver pops better
Alright! Thank you!
Prime blavk and then just airbush white, and then go over the arm tubes and chest with black
And then also do the detailing
Oh and wash
Woooo!!!
mine came in today too, cant wait to give him a deathwing knight hooded helm
Chaplain in termi would probably cinvert into nice grey knight chaplain
Contrasts are a huge game changer I can't go back to regular base/shade painting unless I feel like I absolutely have to for it to look good
Oh yeah, I just love chaplains so I’m trying to get them all
I’ve got the Horus heresy chaplain, now this one, then I gotta get the others
Playing my first game!
Eyyy welcome to the big suck my man
Few more games and you'll double/triple the amount of d6's ya got
Good lord that is beautiful
Thanks! I think this is definitely what I’ll be doing going forward
Let us know who won
Draw
Got to turn 4 but had to cut the game short
There were a couple misplays on my part that probably would have swung the game in my favor
You live and you learn
Just got my first set of necrons, what would be an optimal base coat?
Can't go wrong with a light grey in absolutely all cases, will let you paint absolutely anything and have room to darken/lighten as needed; plus the base coat won't tint the other colours
Some people swear by priming in black or white but I don't see the point, if you want a catch-all then grey is always good
Thanks for the insight, gonna start of with one of them just to get the feel of it
What color are you trying put on them? Gray is not always an optimal answer, more specifically if you're doing metals and stuff like that
Personally I don't do black or white, I'm very much of the verdaccio crowd so I tend to do a lot of browns, greens, and yellows.
But when it comes to using super opaque paint it really doesn't matter that much, but using something like metallics a black base is going to do a lot more than a gray will because of how the metallic pigment works or the light because you're dealing with much larger particle sizes then your normal paint (1-45 micron for normal, 10-60 for metallic), The black is going to mitigate light absorption that a gray or a white will do, so metallic will look less splotchy on black. Some colors will also not look right over gray like yellows due to their inherent transparency, so you're going to get a better effect off of a white than you will with a gray.
If you start using paints like the ones I do, your base tone will matter way more than you it will with hobby paints because don't forget hobby paint are in fact a low-grade paint because it replaces pigment for an opacifier(this is also why yellow hobby paints generally suck)
Knight arriving today :D
I did the kitbash on mine for a beefier weapon but unsure….
Please ignore it’s minor wonk
Ooo the sword looks good
So am making an UM first company list for a 9th edition crusade
You smurfin bruh?
Ye
Ngl I almost did all my extra veteran units as smurfs
I made it longer by splitting two swords in half but I don’t like how it’s a tad wonky.
I can MAYBE make it look like a weld job??
Or take the pointed blade off and have the chaplain use a broken blade as a detail point, like it was broken off in a particularly big enemy, or as a sign/mark of honour, like it’s a fetish item…. Idk
I think it looks cool!
It does, but it’s wonky :(
It’s a relic called “Bent sword of the Lesbomancer”
Master-crafted by some Mechanicus so it could bend while chopping someone , to cause even greater wounds
Oh no don’t drop the picture quality! 💀
Spooky boi
I think the protective layer over my camera lens is cracked just slightly so the light distorts and messes with the photo quality
No , I meant like Necron would drop quality of image because of his powers
it was a joke
Another Jump Assault Marine in progress
Looks sick
@visual turret this new terminator chaplain is awesome! :3
held with Blutak until I spray him
fatty
Was thinking of a standard gray for the body with maybe bronze for the shoulder parts
Ooo he looking good
best boys always looking good
White is such a pain
Never works well over black
how would paint somthing cloth like a cape or somting like that
Oh clever kitbash!!!!!
On god this knight is HUGE
Love the paper towel background
Thank you
Unlike all these “proper” mini painters I do not have the right tools lmao
It’s a good figure
So you got trans knight, what’s the leggy one gonna be?
It was fun to paint
I still think my paint is too thick, it just seems really patchy
I’m gonna paint the next one with thinner paint
Hopefully it turns out better
It could also just look like that from the shade I put on, I put way too much on it
Flies flies flies flies flies flies FLIES FLIES FLIES
Very nice
Also very nice
This goes hard
Looking at that thing makes me want a flamer. A heavy flamer.
i was just kind of looking into playing warhammer for the first time but there are no allied army times in 10th edition which limits roleplay quite a bit 😦
you can make a thousand sons chaos knight though
when i was a kid my uncle gave me a bretonnian rulebook for some reason (no models or anything) and i read it and it was so cool to imagine having a bunch of allied units together,
empire and bretonnians
That's really well done.
Farseer I painted a while back
The amount of models I have where certain parts are mostly being held together with blue tac and a layer of milliput to seal it in is concerningly high but it lowkey works
I thought they were yelling out 'rise' over and over again
Also that's a damn nice Farseer. Better than mine
Either would fit. Flies is very Nurgle though. Sometimes I think the scab flamer asks, “Wanna kiss me?!” Instead of the more likely, “Want it crispy!?”
Neither
Pretty sure it's "Want 'em crispy!?"
Oh I will be gluing him, this was just for reference
Thank you!! :3
It's always something you can discuss with your oppojent if it's alright
Like bringing Sisters to a IG army as allied units, just make sure to ask if it's alright beforehand
apparently there are tournament rules at 1850 but that's more army then i want to collect lol
Tbh I barely looked into tournaments since I've been mainly looking to play using tabletop sim since 40k is very obscure where I live
Knightgangknightgangknightgang
Just finished the new batch of termiez
Big stompy bois of doom!
Wew, knight
||screams in the pain that is trying and failing to paint in tartan||
Malfor's Wrath shall soon be deployed
Knight of the Cultus Unitologist ready to make humanity whole again
Everyone got the knights today
Getting my castigator almost done
We don’t like seeing spending money in our wallets
Any suggestions on improving this sentinel base?
Exactly
looks very wet, add some moss in addition to the bushes
and maybe a liquid spill from that pipe
I like that idea. So take some flock I guess and apply it for moss?
What about the liquid spill?
yeah, just apply the flock in patches, ideally in transitions between higher and lower terrain, shaded corners or in places that are supposed to be wetter than the rest.
For the spill, you have the more expensive option of buying a bottle of resin made specifically imitate water and adding a drop of paint to have it be the color you want (they're not that expensive, and don't require mixing. Ideal for people like me who use it only in small batches). Or, you have the cheaper option of painting the spill directly on the base and putting some gloss varnish on top to make it look wet
I gotcha. So I’ve marked some locations here for flock patches. These seem good?
base is begging for green goo flooding that recess fron the pipe
hmmm, a bit too much in my opinion, you do whatever you want with it. If it was me I'd just put one or two patches
remember that sentinels have big feet, they take a lot of space on the base. Put too much flock, and you'll lose that battlefield effect and get a more lively-looking environment because there's a lot of greenery
Good point. Hold on
plus the base is already pretty busy with that pipe and box, you don't want to overload it
A tundra base I did for a sentinel earlier this year
So the yellow circles represent the sentinel’s leg positions. Red is the flock positions
Yeah, I think that way is good
remember to use a dark-ish flock, again, you don't want it to be too lively
Yeah I’ll find some sort of dark green/brown/orange
So gloss varnish makes things “shinier” right? Could I apply the same to a Matt varnished metal to make it shiny again?
yeah
Fuck yeah!!!!
That looks good
more plastic crack
Glocktopus

I am currently to get my hands on one of this
need to buy 2 more packs
30 Legionaries
like
rn gonna do iron warriors but want night lords and alpha too
so need to gather money for 2 more packs so will have 10 for each of what i want
I am going to paint my custom Warband
i'd do too but unskilled and not enough money for all pink, blue and purple shades
already went for just 2 paints and came with 3 extra technicals
I have no skills in painting , so it would look like an adomination
same
Iron warriors are good, the stripes are what put people off the most though
i dont care
im gonna do it because im simply a dumb fuck

I actually need to do more of my HH IW at some point

One day I'll paint them. But first 17 pox walkers
@rare hornet

All with brush too lmfao
pain
Here's mine that I made recently 😄
starting my journey, wish me luck
(35% off, got a nice deal)
Nice, which guys are you gonna work on first?
your thought?
Astra Militarum
Incursion (1000 points)
Combined Regiment
Cadian Command Squad (65 points)
Lord Solar Leontus (125 points)
• Warlord
Cadian Shock Troops (60 points)
Cadian Shock Troops (60 points)
Chimera (70 points)
Heavy Weapons Squad (60 points)
Heavy Weapons Squad (60 points)
Leman Russ Exterminator (180 points)
Rogal Dorn Battle Tank (260 points)
Gonna use the space marines as my testing grounds
Just got some cadians and kreigsmen primed
That matchup seems horribly unbalanced
There ya go bro, id recommended getting some more smaller brushes too. Dont't gotta be expensive
Really helps with the more detailed areas
i’ll for sure need them, I wanna get into necrons
Place I went to had a nice box, something like 10-12 basic guys and some scarabs for 50$
Yee, I love them. Tyy
I need to stop looking at this
no
this is a bad idea
getting into some nerdy minature game I will never play is dumb
no no ahaahahha NO
Should I get tau or space marines
@silver thorn You can always play via Tabletop Sim, that's what me and a few other friends getting into the wargame part of the hobby are looking into
ONE OF US ONE OF US
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Hey I have that kit. I stopped building it to focus on my Orks.
I was VERY tempted to use it for Ork Kitbashing. But Saint Celestine told me to hold off.
very dumb, dont do it
Adeptus Sororitas have decent rules for tabletop
And can posses a high threat on battlefield
its more they look really cool and i want to paint them
Especially Warsuits
ill probably never get to play it
Don’t think so
All you need is simple search in net
I didn’t know that there was a Warhammer club in my town until I found it via net
i live in NYC so its not a matter of finding people
but all the groups would proabably be huge and filled with people that idk
idk if it would be good for me to go there lol...
all my nerdy friends are like magic the gathering and dnd players and stuff
let me just say that ive had bad experiences going to like FNMs and stuff before with friends and had
negative experiences
and i can only expect them to be worse for warhammer
Well , it’s all up to you
I can't speak for east coast.
But I've worked in 3 lgs and mtg players have always been the worse.
tbh id believe it. 😦
Im painting my first minis ever today primer just came in
maybe not because its raining, ill see if it gets better later
not warhammer tho
I got a cheap out of print game as kind of a gateway drug haha
Whatca painting?
Jump Pack Intercessor 3 of 5
they should be easy to convince, warhammer is cheaper than magic the gathering
All Citadel Plastic Glue was bought from my local distributors

Some one used this one?
Just buy methyl ethyl keytone from a wood working store, those glues are generally just a mixture of MEK and n-butyl acetate.
sometimes its just pure n-butyl acetate
which is garbage
(thats citadel plastic glue))
Ok , so I simply by glue from wood working store and it will be enough
Glue with formula that you said
Yeah, or Tamiya air brush cleaner
its out of print but its an anime themed low model count game
one played like a test proxy game of it like 8 years ago that was really fun
you have a like a deck of energy you draw from so you basically don't have every action every turn
you have to choose the best energy to spend, save and shuffle
i mostly just think the theme is cool and you can get 90% of a factions army for under 100 on eBay
including their named characters and stuff
What did you use for the tan
Zandri dust
Tanks cutie

Thicc thighs save lives
battel ready is at least painted to some degree
parade would be for things like painting competitions
battle ready is enough to meet the minimum standard for painting requirements to play, parade ready is the minimum standard for painting rubrics in tournaments because yes, you actually get punished for having a poorly painted army in those.
basically think of battle as tablle top standard and parade as that but enhanced
if you really wanna put your whole pussy into a model
Parade wouldnt even place in a painting comp tbh, showcase is what you're thinking of
What’s the best if your doing it for fun
Sake of painting
anything you want then
you dont have to worry about either one of those then
just paint how you want and ignore all of that stuff
hell you dont even need to paint official schemes
probably tabletop standard
like, some people paint parade ready for fun as well
The squad grows
I'm kind of proud of this bit on the vambrace. I was able to paint those tiny details with minimal overspill
What color did you use for for the seal thing
They need to include the beakie helms with this kit man.
My beakie sergeant does look good
Mine came from the Raven Guard Primaris Upgrade kit
Sabre is a good choice
Power fist may be stronger but it looks doofy on anything other than Terminators
I mean aye as a crimson fist dude, I am obligated to say "you're wrong"... so ya know, you're wrong
You are entitled to your opinion
But the style of the sabre is clean af tho
This is because they use (if i recall correctly Naphthol Red AS-D which is an incredibly transparent pigment then they mix in a ton of chalk with it. You're not going to find a good opaque red outside of professional paints
Like Citadel?
hell ya battle bro
Got my pals finished
Bloody WIP
No, citadel is actually closer in quality to craft paint(legallly speaking, it is craft paint) give me a second, I'll show you professional grade
Gonna finally try to finish my sluggy vortex beast kitbash
What kind of glue should I be using with clear PLA? Not sure if plastic glue will take to it or just melt the mcfuck out of it. Watched my friend absolutely destroy one of his resin aeldar minis with it and now I'm scared
That is a professional brand, its actually the best performing acrylic on the market too.
these are professional grade inks
That red goes on so smooth
Pyrrole red
its expensive
but worth it
I still prefer cadmium though
I bought the black from Michael's and I'm going to Houma tomorrow anyway, so I think I'll drop by and take another look at their paint selection
How don’t you accidentally paint the straps
the 4oz bottle i think was $25 for me at an art supply store, its a pricey paint but you cant get brighter red thats opaque and single pigment
Damn
single pigment paint is superior
My paints barely 6$
My desk has probably $750,000 in paint on it currently
somewhere around there
What do you do for a living💀
I'm an art conservator
Ohh
so this stuff is for work
Makes sense
Yeah, I have tubes on here that cost $30,000+ to make
I fucking hate tyrian purple
dog shit dye
That’s crazy
I just order paints off the GW website
II make most of my own paint
That’s neet
I also have most brands here to color match
Either an unreasonable amount of patience or pure and absolute luck
each pigment manufacturer makes a slightly different shade and I cant remember every single color recipe for everything, hell there are over 250,000 recipes just for automotive paint
Which is better Ak paints or citadel paints
I would only suggest citadell because of the whole holocaust denial thing with AK
Huh?????
I’m not even that surprised
The fuckin HWAT
How bad do you have to fuck up your PR for people to view that as your company's stance
yeah they did a human atrocities campaign to sell a line of paints and a book, the advertising for it contained holocaust footage, the book contained tthings like how to build a gas chamber and a diorama for a drowning child
their apology was basically "we are sorry you're offended by events that didnt happen"
This?
I was gonna say "that's....slighly better than the holocaust denial I was expecting" but nevermind they jumped the shark on that one too
I still have the video of them using mass graves though
Dude that's absolutely fucked
Imagine catering to that guy at the game store this hard
Ak tried to hard to appeal to ww2 nerds
The owners are also known in the community, supposedly to be white supremacists, but there is no concrete proof of that, though I have met with the owners and with their former employee mig before....
all I will say is that they have a very standard "if you're offended by these words, go back to america"
Where is AK based?
Spain
I thought it would be Slavic
My biggest issue with most paint companies in spain is that they tend to ignore international laws on labeling a lot
Spanish activity’s
vallejo still claims their flow improver is non-toxic even though the chemical thats in there requires a GHS labell for acute toxicity
scale 75 just ignores all laws and sells pigments that legally have to have a lead warning on them in the US
the US has very strict paint regulations compared to europe
Paint drama is crazy
Oh I have tons of it
Drink it
ranging from companies using arsenic pigment by accident to using fake pigments
What does arsenic do to paint
its a pigment
Arsenic is really good for everything
the main ones are things like realgar
Thanks for the paint knowledge
no problem, its kind of my entire life at this point
its like the one thing im good at
Very cool skill
only took a decade of school and cancelling a social llife
Who needs a social life
I traded a social life for the ability to correct hobbiests online about paint chemistry
That’s really funny
I think so too
like so
basically use a high grade ink and not a paint
Bro
I can’t afford that
I work part time at a convince store
that bottlle was $11
you can get a smaller one for like $6
Oh shit
professional paints are actually cheaper than hobby paints most of the time
How thick is it
thats an ink
so its ink like in consistancy
The juice in pens?
yeah kind of
Yummy 🤤
its water like in consistency
Sweet
This stuff?
yes
now its not completely matte, its satin
but you can change that with varnishes
citadell is close to satin
I just need something to paint my tau
Then that's perfect
Converting some corvus cabal into Chaos Cultists for my ksons
I've said it before and I'll say it again: undivided minis just look like emo Khorne and actively ruin the flavour of ksons armies if you don't find workarounds like this
I’m about to give you a big ol’ smooch
Yeah corpse talked some sense into me when it comes to using hobby paints for whites and yellows, can't argue with results and it's the difference between white taking 3-5 coats and it being a nightmare you have to constantly micromanage to just going on easy
yes, let the evil of the paint elitist corrupt you
I mean when my Trooper White shows up there's a good chance I'll just use that but you have made an impact in the meantime
two thin coats is an interesting paint
they actually got pissed at me when I requested an MSDS
and kept asking me why I needed it
found out they are using some... less than desirable additives to the paint to make it seem better than it is
mostly 2-butoxyethanol
the paint works better than a lot of hobby paints
but I would avoid airbrushing it without dedicated PPE
Is it edible
No, legally it needs a label that says toxic on it
but they dont know paint rules because they arent enforced
They should make edible paint
they technically do
its called watercolor
thats more edible as the binder is generallly honey
for mass production is gum arabic
Using watercolor for miniatures would be a nightmare
not at alll actually
?
you need to thin your paint to the same consistancy of water color
plus acrylic gouache is legit
Paint lore is wild
there is a lot to do with paint
and a lot to do with it chemically
I thought it was just funny liquid color
I had an aneurysm when I saw the goobertown hobbies video about paint chemistry
its just so.... wrong
everything in there is wrong
his resin video also had a lot of bad information
I dont think the dude knows much about organochem
but that paint one.... that was bad
Not a lot of people do
I have a masters in organochem
I had to get it for my job
That’s nuts
What do you do?
Art conservation
Is that restoring old paintings?
technically no, but also yes
its more about preserving
basically I take care of art installations
Ohhh
That’s cool
explaining exactly what my job is... well it makes my job seem confusing since im on the more chemistry side of things
That explains a lot
Yeah I am a very weird creature
Could be worse
What’s the best color for the tau orange armor
Finally back in stock jesus christ
which tau orange?
Finally finished converting my cultists
Next Terminator done 3/5 😎
Too thin, think top layer of milk not the rest of it
Like
With a little bit of paint mixed back in, you should be able to 'pull' the paint that's gathered down the bottom back along the shoulder pad, you won't get good coverage to begin with, it'll show the red from the base coat, but you're just aiming for all of the paint that you've applied to be around the same thickness, your second coat will be where the smoothness comes in
(this is a hard rule when using almost anything that's not a contrast paint or metallic, your first coat is going to look like shit and convince you that you've ruined your mini, trust the process and go for the second coat: it fixes the initial issues almost always)
@hybrid crown
Big boy
YE
Something like this
A little better?
(Literally just starting today, so I know bugger-all lol)
I’ve not even a clue ‘bout priming, since legit starting with this:
Need to wait for better weather to prime the stuff i still gotta do like the carapace and leg armor
I know the pain
painted in 1 day 😱
That's dedication. Damn.
Can I be arsed to paint something on this…..
…. If it’s just gonna be covered up
i would pay money if tau got multiple guevasa units.
like actual good models and rules
its honestly really cool that humans are assimilated too
Maybe have it as a thing outside the mini?
So the top is closed and then the pilot seat is next to it
You can magnetize the hatch.
I don't have magnets for that
I would say maybe take away the sides so you just have the pilot and the back of the chair? Entirely up to you
the sides are.... already glued
You can make a hinge by drilling through the flat/mall end and using a paperclip.
that's a bit more feasible
Figured, still would look good I think
I do have a drill
Unironically same
right so - hole drilled in the door hinge. paperclip acquired.... how would I go about getting it threaded in the hole?
Can you access it from underneath or is the cockpit already glued in?
I can access it from underneath
Cut the paper clip to length. Then cut it in half. Stick one side in from underneath, then the other side. Then superglue it from the inside where it won't be visible. You don't need the paper clip to go all the way across, just enough to keep the hatch in place.
Yeah that looks way nicer should give you a solid base coat to work from
Also idk if you know anything about shades but don't worry if what you're painting doesn't have the "x factor" you want right away, thats usually where shading and highlighting come in
If you're precise enough, you can also make a handle at the opposite end from the hinge by drilling 2 holes straight in, bending the paperclip in a U shape, then bend the ends together and gluing it to the underside. That'll let you open it without scratching paint with your fingernail.
nahhhhhhh as much as I wantg to be as precise and neat as that I've botched it. Gonna seal the pilot into the gloom forever
can't say I didn't try though
I just painted the internal cockpit on its own as a diorama
Didn't even bother gluing it into the knight
So a friend of mine gave me a leman russ tank. It looks nice with my winter themed army.
It was already painted by him.
SOON
gonna do the same tbh
i like that
@rare hornet opinion required. Should I glue the two shoulder plates together now or post-paint?
Post paint
a deal is a deal
Shiiit do it
Minor transfer work
cheap plastic aquired :3
POG
Man i hate transfers
They look good as fuck
They're DOGSHIT with applying
It's better than trying to freehand symbols
Stencil for the win
first 2 sternguards
Oooooo, love the helmet
thx, its mk 3 iron hand helmet
cool how there is dust all over his boots
Technical agrellan earth paint that i drybrushed onto his legs
I love the dust
Thankya, first found out I could do that after screwing up by getting a mini's legs soaked in it.
No problem, it turned out super well
A respectful heretic purging enjoyer
1st one
Second alternate
BURN LOYALIST SCUM!!!
do they have the soflat pyrrolle red and the high flow titanium white?
I didn't see anything like that, just the fluid acrylics
Well, they had some bigger bottles towards the bottom but they were 30+ dollars and I wasn't looking to spend that much
I didn't examine them closely
yeah theyy'll work, the flluid just happens to be fairly glossy, that streak on the label is the actual paint
I'm not terribly worried about the gloss on the red. I only use it for trim and small details
that'll be fine then
Frankly, I don't mind using paints with a bit of gloss to them. Light catches the edges naturally that way and I don't have to do edge highlights
good way to look at it
The Darkness descends

I wonder how i am going to do the bases on these dudes 🤔
i keep trying to assemble my first minis and then being like DAMN THIS IS ANNOYING. Then I watch a 15 minute video on how to fix x ANNOYING thing, ordering supplies on amazon and trying again. And Ive been doing that for 3 days lol.
Ill never get to painting
Work in progress
Upgrades people upgrades. Death watch shoulder pad. Plus better pic
First figurine done though I haven't given it a proper basing yet
I feel like i am doing sth wrong but this thing is supposed to turn after pushing it in right? Because if it doesnt turn both arms just stick up
It's really tight like that, i reccomend either cutting the wings off and gluing it still, or shaving off more of the connecting bit so it's small nough to fit
Yeah managed to turn it the other way around after trimming it a bit
@rare hornet

soon
Working on some nurgle blessed traitor guard, still need to scrape off mold lines yes i know.
Minis so far
Someone finally fixed the guilliman mini.
Lol
Yeah that's basically the process. And then eventually you're sitting there with an army half primed on your shelf, but you can't paint them yet BC you're waiting on a particular paint for a colour scheme you wanna do, so in the meantime you're on eBay wondering if it's worth starting that big kitbash you wanted to do and ordering bits for it anyway
i got a starter paint set coming in up probably end up ordering more paints
I'm ordering a new shelf too, kinda committed hahaha
watch out for those starter paint sets, they are a scam and not for the reasons you think. Basically what they do is give what new people think are the primarily colors, but the yellow is too warm, the red is actually an orange, and the blue is too warm, so all you can mix are browns
ahh. good to know 💀
i was planning on wasting paint just mixing colors on the wet palate
I've painted acrylic just not on miniatures before but it was long ago
yeah mini paints are designed so you have to buy an ecosystem, not a few paints
thats the price on convenience colors
Since they are all pre mixed colors, when you try to mix your own you get poor results
which then forces you to buy more paint
The fact mini painters have to have collections that look like mine isnt a good thing
I need to have around 2000 paints at the ready for my career, this is incredibly not normal for artists, most dont have more than 8-10
😦
i mean i some you can buy more basic paints and mix yourself
i think the reason people probably do it the way they do is with miniatures to often have to paint dozens of models the same color
if you mixed it, even if you are really good with color and mixing its hard to get the exact color right
It's really not actually, take a 20 minute class of mine and you'll know how to do it and be able to actually match colors within a week or two.
The problem is most people don't have the concept of how to do it and they don't see color the way you need to see color and understand how color works, It's nothing more than a trick of physics and an optical illusion
You're trying to create colors to match another thing, And the real trick with it is that a lot of colors don't actually exist your brain creates the color so getting that exact color isn't as hard as people think it is because it's all about mental trickery
For instance purple doesn't exist, It's what your brain thinks happens when you mix two colors, It's a forbidden color to see
The way they do it is actually because mixing colors with their paint is very difficult because you're looking at very complex pigment blends, actually has to do with when you do 4+ pigments in a paint, you don't really get a good effect. For instance it is not uncommon for a hobby paint to have a green and a purple in there at a very small amount just to tone it down if it's a red, It's not enough to alter the color but it's enough to darken it. It's very common when trying to buy something like cobalt teal to find that manufacturers put orange in it to tone it down because the full cobalt teal is super bright and really not fun to work with because of how bright it is for industrial purposes.
I'm really worried about making fleshv tones
Not finished, as I’ve haven’t fully painted all the diseased meaty bits. I thought I did an okay job, given how it was my first mini AND my first nurgle boy. I just wish my local WH store had that bronze paint…
Just dm me, I can give you a free class on that, I can teach you in under 10 minutes how to match any flesh tone
||or militarum green, which I need because all I fuckin have is Waagh flesh for the base
||
militarum green is just black, yellow, and white
specifically a cool tone yellow
I can not give you an answer, everything looks bad to me because I work in art and have to pick ouut flaws to detect fakes and bad restoration jjobs
great for my job, bad for giving comment and critic
if you'rre happy with what you've done, then its good, my words matter not
I’m proud I didn’t fuck up the visor that much unlike those “thin your paints” minis
I’m the orkz in the middle and the rest are the ones my friends left me to paint
holy shit yeah that’s a major confidence booster
good in art doesnt exist, humans cant agree on what defines good as it is heavilly opinion based, bad howeveer does exist as we can all agree on what defines bad
We have objective fact for bad, opinions for good. A debate that hasn't ended since it starteed
same with what defines art, we have records dating back to ancient Greece of the arguments of what defines art and we still havee those exact same arguments
I have a doctorate in art, and I can tell you right now that if someone claims they now what art is,, don't listen to them
Very early W.I.P valhallan ice warrior sargent
krieg need chain shovels
That sounds so scary please never
You slam them with the forget me side then saw them with the remember me side
hard to remember when your brains are scattered in the wall
I am nearly done painting my newest Knight
Or rather, the Knight I am gifting to my mum
Tried to do the Clan Munro tartan for her by hand but uh
No.
I can clean up the blue lines later with some red over 'em to properly do the staggered lines, but jesus fuck is tartan pain
Shields and paint markers are your friends, because painting tartan by hand is... Tedious
Got the markers but the pain is they're the wrong fucking red and they didn't really have a wide array of options
The blue is also wrong but that's kinda less of a problem at the moment
Mum's at least happy with the attempt - she's told me it doesn't need to be perfect
I just buy fillable ones and fill them with my own paint
But my own nascent perfectionism is still screaming at me every time I look at it
thanks i hate it
as a person who has to do tartan kilts for every one of is highlander troops (custom praetorian kasrkin substitute), i know your paint
damn good paintwork always is pain, but its pain thats worth it
I was honestly considering just fucking printing the tartan off and gluing it to the thing, but doing that with curved surfaces is not something in my wheelhouse
as in 3d printing, or printing it as a decal?
Printing it on paper and gluing it down
yeah that wouldn't look right unless you used a thick tough paper type and textured it with folds bumps and creases first
Aye
...i wonder
have you though of trying plaster?
theres an old trick i picked up from my dad and his model railroading, he'd use it to make hilly terrain, done right it might be possible to make something sort of like a big cloth banner in appearance, but rigid and sturdy enough to hold up while being worked with
Don't think we have any lying around, and mum would probably murder me if I spilled that stuff
course youd still have to either print out and hand place a big ol decal on decal paper or hand paint a tartan pattern onto it
long as its modelling plaster and not something youd use in building a house or a wall, it shouldnt be too hard to clean up, plus all youd really need to do is soak two strips of gauze about the same size as the banners youve got draped off that knight in a thin mix of it, then drape them roughly over something flat, maybe put a few bits of junk under it to create a creased look as it dries, hobby shops last i checked still carry it
mixed thin it should dry sturdy without looking too bulky or thick, it could pass for a piece of thick weathered fabric
tho overtime it may well droop
the thinner and finer the gauze you use and the thinner the plaster mix the better i think for something like this
No inks are already water, with good inks the only difference between them and a paint is a chemical thickener
This is my finished entry into a halloween painting contest at the local GW store. C and C welcome focused on improving.
I would recommend giving more texture to the base, for exaample you could make broken up road from cork sheets, add some debris etc. Overall neat paint job, but the ground itself lacks a little bit of a texture i would say
Lumberjack knight
yea thats valid i ran out of stirland mud and only had just enough to cover it. it is a bit more texture in person th an it looks in the photo though
old man yelling at youngsters these days having it too easy with texture paints
obviously jk, that's a great miniature
That is some good battle damage
thank you. this fella took me 10 hrs to make
Chinks in the armor look super real. And I love that he has icicles on his armor 😆
i cut the battle damage into the marine with a knife and drilled small holes for like bullet holes
That damage work is masterful
It's him.
It's that one heretic.
(First painted mini after many many years)
homeboy ran into a hive fleet and cleared it solo
Lamenters canonically posses zero fucks to give
what's his name
he looks like he'd be called something like Drogg or Kakk
thank you <3
He's just a generic dreg stalker.
Darktide got me back into 40k so I wanted to do him up like an Admonition cultist
fair enough
I'd love to get back into the model side of things one day
but I'm way too lazy :/
the one heretic
john chaos
famously known for his infamous brother
horus heresy
dont make me start a chaos army now too
Lil bit dusty... converted and painted these guys up a long time ago from the 5th ed space marine kit.
Old black templar conversion, gunna start painting tomorrow
I believe that model is the Dark Angel's sgt from the old Dark Vengeance box, back when Helbrutes first became a thing.
I LOVE NURGLE GRAHHH
Hey uh, if someone could help me with the new space marine detachments- in the new Vanguard Spearhead one of the enhacements makes it so that the bearer has stealth and lone op, does that also extend to models in the unit or just the bearer?
If Leader can be attached to unit it dose
because they start sharing keywords
So if I were to say... Put it on a gravis captain and then have aggressors attach to that, I could have a very funny combo in my hands?
@proud glen
Well that's a shame
So only Capitan model has it and it can`t join a squad
It`s a balance
Should I paint a space marine tau colors
Can I clean a mini with just water and soap? or what might I use to get it back to its normal grey state?
I kinda fucked up badly with my sentinal and wants to start over
More progress :3
clean transfer work
Thank you!! ^^
My first dreadnought done. This and 3 Eradicators and I'm at 750 points for my army so i can play at my local store finally
Could you 3D print figures
I mean yeah. There’s a whole community of resin printing
Hi, GW community rep here! Actually its impossible and if you try it I hear you immediately spontaneously combust and die horribly. Have you tried looking at our recently updated selection of resin models available for gaming and painting?
Luckily I can’t read
I heard you get shot by a .50 BMG when you even browse 40K STL's
Depends do you want GW to send assasins to your door step?
Question for the lore enthusiasts, are techmarines always red? I know rule of cool paint however you want. But I’m curious if they’re always red in the lore
I just bought a tech marine. For my dark angels army, and was wondering if any chapters ever painted them differently
Probably not, they are however probably a slightly different colour to the rest of their chapter to stand out as the "vehicle guy" a bit like apothecary are the "medical dude"
No tthey arent
I dont know if the left is official its just on the wiki
I thinkk they are just mostly red
