I bought the timbertech starter kit a while back, came with compressor, hose, brush and 3 needles for like £70.

The brush is a pile of shit, basically good for priming and solid basecoats but its fragile as hell. Compressor is alright, gets 30mins use continuous but gotta switch it off then as its hot.

Took it apart, made tons of mistakes then bought an iwata.

still needs a drybrush, a nuln oil recess shades, the lights have to be done, the gun arm needs to be completed (IE rocket doodles), grots need to be painted and put on, etc.

Prime in white and then do a second coat of yellow with an airbrush for best results. You could zenithal prime and then use a contrast paint to get your base coat too, but there's not really a super easy way to get yellow to pop without making a extra effort for it, just a fussy colour for the most part

Yeah I’ll have to airbrush vehicles but considering using imperial fist contrast as a basecoat w/ grey seer primer

Yeah if you don't mind the extra step then that should work fine. Yellow is just one of those colours where there's no easy one-step way to base with it, you've always gotta support it with a white/grey and do 2-3 coats (Imperial fist is pretty good coverage tho you might be able to get away with the one coat)

I got a tube of the stuff from a proper paint store and tried mixing a little Contrast into it, and also applying it on top of a surface, but can't get it to work

Depends on material but a lot of people activate tf out of their paint with a UV light before photos so it pops like this, its quite difficult to get this level of glow all of the time

no, that will do that same thing. Glow in the dark stuff is incredibly finnicky and you cant just get any old random one from a store, you have to get a specialized one from a higher end company so it actually works properly because the pigment is ungodly expensive, so most companies dont put enough in there. The pigment for an industrial scale is around $200-300 a kg so $1000~ for consumers

In theory yes, in practice sometimes no, static grass applicators tend to be more powerful than electric fly swatters.

not really, there are guides out there on how to make one out of a fly swatter.
the applicators generrally are the same voltage too

you just ideally have to solder in a ground wire to the building area to make them work

there are applicators that do a better job but the one I use was almost $200

and thats just... a lot of money for something that barely works better than dipping it into a tub

I've seen those guides, built one myself, and tried it out. If you want it to work in a DIY style you should also make a negative ion generator.

I do agree that those applicators are a lot of money, but they're kinda necessary if you want to use 4,6,9,12mm grass upright in a decent density.
