Its kinda the issue I have with CSM in general tbh the overreliance on spikes, leather and skulls makes most undivided units just look like Khorne+ and if it doesn't have crab claws, feathers or is semi disembowled it never reads as anything other than Khorne

So thats going to be incredibly difficult as a whole. You'll need something like LA's totally awesome and a higher end ultrasonic cleaner. Do not use biostrip or isopropanol as it will destroy the model

it will take several weeks, its leave it in the solution for 10 minutes, run it in the ultra sonic without any solvents in it, let it rest for an hour, back in the solution for 10 minutes, repeat

15 minutes and the solution destroys the fine cast

It needs to be timed perfectly

I've been told warpstone glow helps to round out the corax white/tesseract glow combo for necrons, from my experience though it is a super popular layer and might be a little hard to find

What sprays work well with red

I’m workshopping a home brew chapter and need to know so I can eventually paint them when I acquire legal tender

depends really on how red you want it

black is naturally a good primer because it helps create nice shadows and deeper recesses, and helps cover up any smaller missed patches. However, depending on the colour you're painting you might want a lighter primer for the colour to sit easier

I find grey or white works well for reds, but black will do just fine too if you're new to painting

then i'd genuinely recommend zenithal highlighting IMO

all-over coat of black, then spray white but ONLY from the top of the mini downwards

zenithal really doesnt do much with most hobby paints, the opacity is a detriment

the paint will look the same no matter the base coat, which is a problem when trying to do things like accurate flesh tones

so take pictures of the zenithal so you know where to place highlights and shadows

but thats just a factor of lighter undercoats compared to darker ones

Y'all I'm trying to figure out if I can get away with an airbrush where I'm living

I'm currently renting a room in a lady's house and she's very obsessed with everything in the house being clean so I'd like to avoid getting stray paint anywhere (I also paint at my desk generally and don't want anything getting onto my PC stuff)

Probably gonna get one of the cheaper portable 15-30psi airbrushes just to kinda test the waters and basecoat my centrepiece models, so I'm not gonna have to worry about working around a proper compressor or anything like that

Is using an airbrush inside feasible? I know it's technically possible but I'm wondering if it's really worth getting a booth, mask and extraction fan.

Considering getting a mask and cheap spray tent and just airbrushing outside to save the hassle but idk if that's actually a good idea or not. Wind seems like it would ruin the whole experience.

Also be very careful as over spray is extremely easy with an airbrush

a mask is not a suggestion, its a requirement. Most pigments are HIGHLY carcinogenic and a lot of commons ones do heavy neurological damage fairly easily too.

the cheaper portable airbrushes also will will cause more issues than they solve, no joke its generally quicker to paint something by hand than it is to use one of those and those portable pumps are well known to catch fire as moisture tends to build up inside the electronics in them. Over spray isnt that big of a deal inside though, you can use a small space and a box and you wont have that much spray running around hitting walls

I do, was going to hit it with 2-3 thinned layers of satin/gloss varnish to lock it in. Read the alcahol evoparates fast so should just be pigments/water left?

it takes about 10-80 layers as its still a thermoplastic so heat causes degradation

and technically the alcohol in it is also more harmful to the paint layers below as it causes them to lose bond

a lot of this stuff is actually insanely complex, which is why my job requires such an insane amount of degrees and training

the non-lacquer uses a normal acrylic binder, the lacquer uses nitrocellulose

making the normal tamiya, an alcohol based acrylic and not an enamel like what most of the hobby community says

I have different regiments for different roles. My 148th are my well rounded role but are slightly better at defense with my use of actual platoons

Plasma works good against bulky units. If you use them against things like heroes and stuff it can be a great anti elite weapon especially with your mobility but plasma is a fickle thing

Figured I could use him and his bodyguard unit to target enemy command

I mostly put plasma in special units with a specific purpose like my kasrkin are meant to be fast and get behind the enemy to target their command and bigger units. Or use them as a spearhead and hit them early before the heavier support comes in like tanks and such

Everyone’s play style is different but it’s always good to experiment

I’d say for you specifically try a few games with assault intercessors and just “say” they got two las pistols and have jump packs

See if it really fits what you want before you commit to two plasma guns in a unit (sorry had a guardsmen moment calling them lasguns lol)

It’s what I did with my specialist is finding out what best suits my play style before actually started giving them the things

I’d stick with one plasma then because two doubles your chances of a backfire and that’s two plasma shooters dead in the squad if the enemy still stands
