might be worth getting a good lamp
less squinting at your minis then
I bought a head lamp but I was also painting all day
fair
The table I work on is next to a window so I was using natural light for most of the day. My headache started just before the sun went down
remember to take occassional rest because health is more important. Sometimes i got too carried by painting that i stayed up until morning. It didnt end well for me lol
I took breaks after finishing each model and I stopped when my headache got really noticeable
I'm going to have to be mindful about breaks when doing the warsuits
Those are going to take a lot of time
Almost ready for its oil bath and weathering
First Night Lord Legionare
@final folio those looks fantastic, loving the strap on the bolter its looks genuine leather
thanks!
@rare hornet should I buy a chaos knight for my iron warriors and why is it a bad idea?
if you are going to get any war dogs are lower points and can be used more often
And that’s 20 guardsmen, a command squad, and a sentinel primed
Well I have made up my mind imma have to buy both now

(I need help)
what variants you thinking?
Rampager or abominant (I like the tusks)
any varient can have the tusks
I'm planning to build a desecrator, a karnivore and a stalker
in theory
The arms are a bit different on knights
you have to magnetise the upper arm to the weapon I believe
Doable
I take 2 warglaives in my admech 1k list and for 140 pts each the value is incredible
Yeah those chain-glaives are what put them above the Helverins IMO
The Helverins are good as well, but as a support
both have their place, but if it is one or the other I'd go warglaive
Admech got plenty of shooting, i might swap out my destroyers for some rangers for obj scouts but tbh skitarri are dreadful atm for the cost
The manipulus transonic cannon is hilariously poweful as well
First part of the 3d print great on clean one done
Oh that is sexy
It looks like it's doing a little dance
Technically, a big dance. Since it's a multi ton death machine.
First militia that will die in 30 seconds in a HH game
I see him valiantly leading a charge and getting vaporized halfway into yelling "for the Emperor!"
Very pleased with the pose I was able to kitbash
Oooo, very nice
All these crispy guardsmen ❤️
Thanks, only one, two, three, 25 more to go!
damn thats clean 🧽
Schlolarly space marine 📖
(I finished painting grenades & pouches) 70% done.
Trying to think what I want to do for a second army now that I’m getting close to finishing guard. I don’t think I want another horde army (my wallet burns). Been debating between space marines and Custodes. Maybe csm as well as a tertiary option. Going from guard to a less horde army, what would I look into?
less horde then probably custodes?
that looks really good
Imperial Scroll WIP
You know what sucks though? 😬 but i went through with it anyways
Knights perhaps?
Don’t have an airbrush yet unfortunately. Otherwise they’d probably be my first choice
@plush swift what varnish/protective layer would I need if I were to store a painted figure somewhere very moist
To those who play them, why do you like Space Marines? Do you have a second army? If so, what?
This is coming from an Ork enjoyer (I like how ramshackle and non-uniform they are)
I dislike marines due to the uniformity
I dislike cadian guardsman for the same reason
other guard regiments i like
Space Marines are my main army, they're quite fun all-rounders, not too excellent at anything but not shit at anything either. I have Necrons, GSC and Tyranids in addition. And well one chaos knight that I've not fielded. Haven't played anything besides SM and Necrons this edition and I liked SM but loved Necrons for their leader abilities and synergies making them almost unkillable
mr hobby premium top coat is nice although very pricey
But is it sturdy enough for moist, almost wet environments?
I live in dry and cold weather but that thing somehow still produce good varnish quality despite how shitty the weather is
a regular varnish would have frosty finish alr
I'm planning on making a closed terrarium and to which I've thought about possibly adding a miniature or a squad of them, like a live diorama
But that would need a proper protective layer for the mini so that it would last inside the terrarium
hmnm, do you plan to gloss it before matte?
Most likely
Hmnm, the only thing i can say for a good matte varnish is that if you accidentally sprayed too much and it floods the miniature for example, when it dries, it still give you a clean effect instead of a frosty one.
but they should all have the same function/ finishes
I'm pretty well versed in applying different coats of sprays/airbrush layers but I just need to find the proper varnish/chemical to do it with for this particular purpose
What’s the minimum amount of points you need to play a game of 10th ed 40K? I wanna start a Militarum army.
Rip firstborn though
long time coming
but wouldn't mind some proper merge solution with line troops like with the termies, add some upgrade sprue to the intercessor kit so you can choose MK7 helmets if you wish and call them first born
like you can see with the new sternguard veteran kit
I believe they changed the lowest point limit to 1000 now?
Could be wrong though
He’s getting there slowly
AM is like ~375
yeah it fluctuates quite a bit but it's balanced a bit by modified datacards
what about killteams?
I like how you painted the wire details. A man of culture
different system entirely, they're like one or two squads
if it were translated to 40k points it's probably around 100p
often less
which one would u recommend beginner to start at
kill team smaller price to entry
Well kill team is easier to start with but again it doesn't play the same way as 40k
It’s the little things
40k for like even a 1k army your gonna drop minimum 200
counting minis and paint
Drugs are cheaper
Eh, minis last longer
The mini is eternal
200 for 1k that’s optimistic
1k pts of random minis that don't mesh well together is possible, but a organized and selective army for 200 isnt realistic imo
Well it's easily feasible with the yearly battleforce boxes or launch boxes for sure
and buying second hand
Depends on what army I guess. Got AM $200 is like nothing lol
Every penny well spent
Hmm if you want a 1k army for cheap
Go custodes
1 hq + 1 battle line + 1 elite = 1k
Like 5 boxes
4 boxes actually
1 trajan, 2 guard and 1 warden
Boom
Combat patrol + 1 more box should also come out to 1000 points, no?
Even better
I think you can literally buy the boarding patrol and get this list?
- 1 box of guard
Custodes are your cheaper army to collect but not to play xD
$ US
huh okay, granted AM is pretty much on the more expensive side
Unironically spent $1k on a 2k point army
Hence why the next one I plan on doing Custodes now
Because that 1k was on models alone
Lol
It was worth since I love AM and the minis but it definitely was a hard vibe check for my first army in 40K
Yeah...
Some armies are meant for first time players
Also fuck AM, they shouldn't have killed Kitten!!
Touched up final details, the body is pretty much 90% done 😀
Crap I mean Astra Militarum not Ad Mech. seriously GW just call them IG
The Battle Force boxes are pretty good for starting out
Lmao
Boarding patrols are good too but it's sometimes a struggle to get hold of some battle force boxes
I know. I was looking at the Salamander one at first but couldn't find one anywhere reputable
I went with the Raven Guard one, instead
Yeah it's a struggle
Amazon is sometimes a good place to get models for some reason
2 of my mates were able to pick up 40k lions on amazon xD
That's the only place I saw the Salamander's box available but, frankly, I don't trust eBay.
Almost done
Finally updated the base
Archival, generally speaking will be listed as archival.
Doesn't work for archival purposes, flakes off in moist environments
Ye found a can sold locally, appreciate it
No problem, though I will still recommend automotive for everything as it is technically archival but it's thick and very glossy
So it tends to ruin paint jobs very easily if you're not careful
yeah I think I'll pass on the thick stuff just in case
just to reiterate, the model in question would be placed in a closed terrarium with basically it's own climate so it would be very wet and the varnish would need to be pretty much water proof, would this Archival be good enough for this?
Done skies
Looks amazing! How'd you do that parchment? Because the subtle shading looks really good.
Rakarth Flesh as base. Mix lahmian with black. Glaze over recess. Paint rakarth again. Then i just paint wraithbone on the raised edges.
Intercessor armor is 💩
not really
They should have had the decency to make one veteran sprue with oldschool armor style
Uncreative mishmash, like bad ai art of a space marine
Intercessors are end stage of creativity loss
no? it's literally just old space marine but longer and extra knee and backback covers
I quite like intercessors
the chonk is good
And i like mk 7
marine should be chonk
Nah it gets silly
The primaris scale has done them good I’d say
Scale yes
Designs less so
Ultimately all the intercessor flaws are made worse by making them default and only option
wdym only option
Isn’t that the same as saying tactical marines devastators and the old sternguard set were all the same model with slight differences?
pretty much only thing I dislike intercessors over tacticals is that the guns are too long
I can see that, I haven’t got an issue as the rifles have their own charms but that’s fair
If they gave the options for the banana mag without sight that would be quite good
Ooo yes
no, automotive is your only real option there, archival can deal with moisture better than most, but automotive is basically a protective layer that actually has durability
automotive is like hobby enamel, just actually good. about the same thickness
the sprays arent bad and arent super thick, just a little thicker than normal acrylic varnish
I will say, the biggest issue i have with primaris is the lack of armour verity compared to the old ones. Everything just sort of looks the same. I think it comes down to the tacticus marines nearly always having the maximus helmets. I hope we get sets in the future that have a bunch of aquila and corvus helmets as example. Also i really don't like the guns being long. I beg we get like a "Bolt gun compact" or something.
From what i've seen, i'm pretty sure the reason why there is no veriaty (or very little) is because of the lore. They sort of wrote themselves into a hole by just saying the primaris armor is 100% the best version ever. But they could have just taken the halo route and say that a lot of marines have their own reasoning for wearing different armour even though its technologically worse.
wip sang guard
Based fellow Templars player
you got any brand recommendations? I've got Maston and CAR-REP easily accessible here
the best I know of is KBS but I dont think you can easily get it there, I know of car-rep and maston, but never used either. I dont actually know what brands in your country I would recommend, but I can ask a few people if you want, I assume either one of those would be fine, but I can not actually recommend anything without testing it myself
Raptor Legion Lieutenant in phobos armor for my killteam 10 more to go
looks awesome!
thx had fun with the basin just cork sheets texture paint and rock easy
yeah they are fun to work with
anyone know how long this has been out of production?
i know that it basically includes seperate units now
hey @white tangle i was wondering how do you base the rocks? im rlly bad at basing so i need some advice.
If you have anyone to ask I'd appreciate it. I presume it shouldn't be the acryl varnishes those brands also manufacture
I'll ask around, generally speaking you're looking for anything listed as lacquer (sometimes enamel) thats automotive. If you're using oil washes, avoid anything thats acryl
Alright
yup same model
Are you sure about that
What i did was i bought army painter battlefield rocks, picked out really small ones, painted them them a rock colour (stormvermin fur in my case) then stuck them on to a primed base.
yeah its phobos lieutenant from that 10th edition starter set picked up a loose one on ebay i just did a little kitbashing from an infiltrator box
found intrest to make wyrmblade kill team, but man buying agents seperately make it harder
@white tangle also, this is just cork. You can order it cheaper if you have a cork/insulation specialist store in your country: https://www.kurk24.nl/hobby/granulaat/
Kurk granulaat kopen? | Hobby & meer Kurk24.nl – Snelle levering ✓ Top Kwaliteit
which glue do you use to stick them in?
Someone stop me. Im about to increase my pile of shame and buy Chaos knight wardogs
call it a pile of opportunity and it'll be fine

chromebook as painting surface?
about all their good for innit
your models look fuzzy? is it dust?
or perhaps your brushes shed too many hairs?
My first (left) and third mini i’ve ever painted
Little guy used to be an imperial fist before i threw his ass in the jar of IPA
So much potential!!
Oooh they look great
definitely dust since they’ve been sitting awhile
thank youu
PVA
And then when applying the technical paint i place it around the rocks to make them stick further
Idk why but I want to paint the left pauldron white, I’ve done most of my 30k army like that but now I can’t seem to enjoy just the straight blue…
i was thinking the same thing
actually i was thinking of painting the studs white
but painting the pauldron white and freehanding a blue ultramarine emblem is a much better idea
Crictic
what
this?
Yep xD
Don’t recommend
It’s the only thing I can use to cut templates or stencils
Would recommend to go to a company and get it done properly or use transfers
Ngl, just the white pauldrons look good by them selves
Does anyone know if you can play 10e in tabletop sim?

you can, GW goes after the files every so often, but if you join the TTS W40k community discord they have a startup and file guide for ppl
alright
TTS community is based cause they're a discord community partnered server that actively encourages the use of pirated content
Based indeed
Quite happy with the silver bolts
Unfortunately got to wait for the varnish to turn up before I can start the decals. Might be at a slight stall till then
Already done
I made this to Primaris Scale after seeing some Art people did for Thunder Warrior art. So now I gotta generate some poses and then it should be ready to print
This is about as done as my lieutenant, one of my first models, is going to get ❤️ At some point tonight I said "screw it" and hastily threw stripes on the helmet. I may or may not try to scratch 'ultra' onto the banner on his shield.
I didn't have a straight up brown paint and didn't feel like mixing bugman and black again so I drybrushed a little yellow I had onto the base and then got some earthshade on that. Just didn't want it to be plain Astrogranite. Same earthshade as this filthy officer is wearing. Will probably look better dry and in natural light in the morning. Onto the next!
Oooh pretty
thats actually so good tho nice
When painting the golden bananas, is it better to prime white and paint gold or prime black and paint gold?
I overdid/didn't shake the agrax earthshade last night 🥲 gonna see what I can do with some isopropyl and a q-tip later
I would suggest priming in a darker colour, you can see what’s gold and what’s not gold easier then
That works. I am tempted to spray gold but eh………………… nah
Yeah I use a metal/silver for spraying down tracks for my tanks but I think I’ll just hand paint these guys
I really don't like priming white for you always miss a spot and see the white below in some recess, black doesn't pop out that much from such mistakes
Black primer. Gloss black if you have access to an airbrush
Mechanicus standard grey also works nicely
Oooh and it sounds weird but a green zenith if doing standard gold
Armour plating first coat, ntb so far
He looks so gooood!!
Can’t wait to start my armigers
What household?
That raven?
Ty :), i run them with admech so its a rent-a-car from raven
Makes sense I like it
Tried to split it so i get the red mars scheme and something imperial to contrast
Well yeah apart from the red for questoris mechanicus the rest is kinda up to you
I’m doing house Terryn at the moment. Waiting for ‘Ard coat and storm shield varnishes to turn up before I do the transfers
Mission accomplished, lieutenant is now significantly less glossy. I'm on the fence about attempting to scrawl "ULTRA" on his shield
I use micro set and micro sol for the transfers, honestly cant imagine doing them without those anymore
But yeah armigers an absolute joy to paint, all by brush too... airbrush coming tonight for the 2nd one 😄
Do it, nice fine tip and slap it on there
Oh yeah, how were those to use?
I can get them ordered tonight and have them delivered by the weekend if so
The main transfer I am worried about is the lower legs on the questoris knight, and how they form around the trim
So these are what i use
Apply the micro SET (blue one, dont mix it up :p) to where you want the transfer to go, be generous, wont affect the paintwork, basically enough so that you can move it around
Press out any impurity/bubbles till your happy and let it dry
Then apply the micro sol, it will basically shrink fit it to the model and with two or three coats the transfer will appear painted on
Ofc the transfer itself on the paper use water etc
Hmm okay thanks for that I’ll order some tonight
Ngl transfers scare me, as if you get them wrong it’s terrible. I’ll have a practice on some spare parts
yeah give it a go, it makes marine pauldrons easy and stress free
Cheers thanks
@formal lichen dumb question but do you leave the Microset to dry before you apply the transfer or have you got to put it on while it’s still wet?
While its wet, I tend to have the transfer on wet toilet paper ready to go, then apply the micro set just before i put it on
again be generous with it, you want to be able to move the transer around so dont apply a thin layer or it will dry too quick (can always add a bit more if it happens)
Righto thanks
Thank you
Thank you
gloss black specifically
fun fact, those are just soap, water and white vinegar
I personally do white because I do light to dark as most of the paints I use are very transparent. But black is much easier with hobby paints, but I also airbrush all my base coats. You can get some fun effects with black over white too, like no effort edge highlighting if you use the correct black paint
yeah I can see the benefit in that
Mars black ink from golden is like, the best black paint ive ever used
and I have access to every black pigment made
Its a transparent neutral black
Id happily make micro set myself not so much sol, cheap as chips on amazon and lasts forever. Btw airbrush being delivered tonight, enamels and oils/spirit work ok with it? Wondered about cleaning since i imagine the water method wouldnt work as well?
enamel means nothing actually, its a marketing term. Enamels can range from acrylic to oil, to latex base, high gloss or flat, high durability or no durability, solvent free or solvent only, the solvent can be mineral spirits or isopropyl alcohol, etc.
So its very heavily dependant on which enamel you're using. I would never spray an oil paint for anything other than painting a wall, its a good way of exposing you to a lot of dangerous chemicals, even with proper PPE which, you'll need
and no, the water method wont work for oils, it will just kill the airbrush
also if you use it for oils and some enamels, you can never use it for acrylics
like, it will just cause the acrylics to become fragile and brittle or not bond to anything
It's the AK interactive stuff, rust streaks/grimes etc, using some windsor and newton oils as well, I'll steer clear of the airbrush for those then cheers
Nice. Neat trick
so... that AK interactive stuff isnt actually an enamel... its an oil wash with varnish in it and it will not last long
its not actually a good product, its just hyped up by a community of people who think the paints that they use are specially designed for them and dont know any better
The Rust-oleum 'custom' aerosol matte clear is still my go-to, solid as. Holds up to heaps of abuse.
that isnt a bad pick
thats a nice camo
I'm glad it turned out okay
correct sir
then if you want, use some black to clean up places where you overstepped
finally i suggest a black/brown wash on the face
Don't have any washes yet
thin paint super heavily with water
That's it?
its a pretty primitive wash
i use paint thinner in it personally
just try and be careful with it and test it on some junk sprue first
use the flesh paint you put on his face on it, then do the wash after it’s dried
Okay. Thanks for the advice
Slowly chipping away. Gonna have to work more on the shields. But hype none the less
Heres my Vetrean
bro drop a freddie edit and thought I wouldnt notice
besides the boring recess shading and highlights. Really enjoyed drawing the radar screen, first time as well.
Holy fucking emperor of mankind
My great unclean one's done I have no clue what the call him
That has to be one of the most detailed parts I've seen in a while
Silly billy lord of smells
That's what we call him it's perfect
Now I can start building my age of sigmar box set
Nice
I have yet to paint my rottigus cuz im scared to paint bigger models cuz that means i gotta put more details
Same with my glottkin
Im also at a painters block for skintones
Greg
Yes
but Greg is superior
One of my skaven will be named Greg in honor
Acceptable
Hey I technically run skaven too thats crazy
Hey I got to build them and the sigmar box set
My boyfriend has skaven
I run sylvaneth and he wanted to play skaven so we got the one skaven sylvaneth box
And he lets me use his minis so I technically have skaven and nekrons
I just paint for the sake of painting
But I have like
A proper Eldar army, a decent Mechanicus force (enough for a combat patrol, since I got that box for my birthday from my boyfriend actually), and a Guard army that uh
needs repainting, but I refuse to because it feels like rubbing out a part of my progress as a painter
All my paints are in storage rn cuz of shitty at home stuff and i recently got the salamanders big box thingy and they are unprimed in a bag atm
Also got the Votann combat patrol box from my boyfriend
Boyfriends are cool
Ye
Im going to a drivein movie with him tomorrow
I forgot that was even a thing, actually
Me too until he asked me
I really like the little bullet impacts on the shoulders of the first one
Just finished building this bad boy
what is this? looking good
Keep him away from my knights!! You won’t harm my babies!!
Thanks!
I find they can be hard to get right
Like the placement of them I mean
If you wanted to a bright silver can help to make the impact pop out a bit
Like runefang steel kind of silver
Shard of the Void Dragon
Looking nothing like a Dragon, but certainly like a Void.
A shard of the void dragon 🙂
They chose the wrong plane of existence!
Indeed!
;-;
I will get 12
Annoying Butterknives
I’ll take the entire stock
Looks like a cool model for a pc/fridge magnet. I might get one as a pallete cleanser.
I use a mix of Vallejo air metal paint range
Plan to do all the Heraldic customizations tonight aswell as my oil pin wash for grime
Oooh that’ll look good
I’m about to brave using Microset and microsol for the first time with the decals for my knight
I'm interested in some feedback about those if you would find the time
Will do, somewhat nervous as I’ve never used them before
Some friends say that they are really good thoigh
I use them all the time
Put microset on JUST before you put the decal on
And have a qtip to gently press the decal down
A good layer or two of micro set is good. But 4-5 layers of micro sol is where I normally end at
Hey @sterile grail What brush do you use? Mine is losing its point slowly, and the stuff you do looks precise as hell. (Detail brush)
Got my own chapter symbol printed so having those two are super helpful
Know your asking another person but I highly recommend Proacryls Sable brushes
Fat belly's and fine points for over a year and a half of use for me
With obv cleaning after every session or two (depending on if I do multiple days of painting)
The set of 5? They're quite cheap as well so i might check them out. Im using the GW sable one rn and its night and day compared to a synth one.
If you can get a set of five I would
I found them off chance at a local FLGS and got a size 1
Then proceeded to get a 0 and a 2
I ALSO recommend the jentastics drunken brush goop
Sadly they tend to be out of stock quite often on their store
Ayyy Black Templars nice
Yep! I'm trying to make them a 2nd army to go with my Krieg
Beautiful
Don’t see many Templars often
Tho I did see a few at a tourney I was recently at
Thank you! I am working on a all FW Krieg army, but that's going to take a minute lol. Actually have a huge tau Lot im trying to sell to fund it lol. But BTs seemed a natural 2nd to Krieg
Love that dread
I use spotter brush. I actually still use it until now from the moment i painted my first space marine. You just need to clean it carefully to extend its life.
On the topic of dreads
avoid leaving the brush in water cup. Usually what i do is i dip the brush in water. Put it on a paper pallette, and wiggle it on paper until all the excess paints gets soaked up in the water to remove any excess paint.
Yeah, i just dropped mine and a lot of the bristles got bent. Not enough to make it unusable but the tip was lost a bit. I've also have like a whole god damn ritual that i do when cleaning/putting away my brushes. I just got sloppy after the drop incident. So im just looking to maybe get a better option if one is avalable for a cheaper price. Thanks tho!
yeah thats how you kill a brush
you drop it in water and it will get bend kinda hard to fix it.
weird thing, but if you clean it properly. The brush somehow is even more precise than it is being first used. I guess it is because the paint held the root of the bristle overtime and everytime i clean it, i made sure its pointy. So i always use this one instead of the new one.
Holy shit my hands are shaking 😅
but if the tip is bendy or broken, its no longer good for precise painting so be careful
gum arabic
I'm guessing it restores bent brushes?
it can help
its not a miracle cure
The weathering on the white pauldron looks really good. Would you mind sharing a little about that process?
Sure! I used Apothecary white on the recess edges right along the black trim, then it was just dry pigments. You have to be careful, so it doesn't override the white, but used lightly they go a long way. I used dry earth and smoke dry pigments from AK
100 dollar horse 🔥🔥
Thanks! Only 11 more to go lol
Yo this shit fucking magic wft?!
Using that micro stuff? Either way those look smooooth
Thanks!!!
Just having a test of a matte varnish I have
will show some examples and see what people think
Varnish experiments (shoulder pads) and final result
Oh I know. I love it XD
The pog guardsman
How did you do the eyes
Corax white and Corax black
Painted skin tone around them
And tried not to scream
Or flinch
The knight reminds me of the skitarii
Just much much bigger
You do that first and paint over any errors?
I wanna give this fellow eyes
Yeah I paint a first thin layer, throw on black in the sockets, put a dot of white in the corners, then put another thin layer of skin tone to cover up mistakes
Awesome I’ll keep that in mind
Plague ogryn I just finished. It's my first nurgle model I've ever done but I'm happy with how I did
Some shield work and skin work.
Bit more to go but it’s a techmarine getting tournament read
Huh 40k figures are so much more smaller than i imagined
This is gonna be such a pain to paint xD
Reminds me of the figures that would be in the kinder surprise eggs
Once upon a time they were smaller 🤣
😳
Like so
Slightly salty the new termies are taller than stodes 🤣
:3
But I love em both for painting
i now know why they put mini in miniature
Don’t get me wrong they’re not always smol
i now know how a guardsman must feel next to a knight xD
"You vs the guy she told you not to worry about"
Funny you should say that
Except one carries around a battle cannon for an arm
We’ll hopefully get some more progress this weekend on the knight. I’ll post results here
👍
Well yeah, that or they’d help you with it
Tell me about it, I got some very fine tip brushes but I'm gonna need a magnifier too haha. Enjoy your infernus marine, mine is primed and ready to paint
necron skulls are smaller
and when they're cracked and you have to paint all the wires
it's real pain lmao
Time to do some green stuffing then!
True scale custodes!!
Btw been early af to work for a couple days now so I’ve been making my krieg army slightly bigger and errr I made 3 boxes worth + field gun
Thx ☺️
A trip down memory lane?
That old logo is 🔥🔥🔥
And the artwork was sublime
Also dug these out of the cupboards, fleets of them gathering dust since the 90's
Just how much do you have in your cupboards?
Enough that my wife might divorce me
Every codex 2nd edition, rogue trader stuff, old dnd stuff from the 80s its a real trove
Leg progression
Looking cool !
Blorp
A buddy is giving me Tyranid from the leviathan box. How much is a fair trade in USD?
What's the whole box cost?
$250
110, as marines technically get more points
Also depends on if you're getting the book out of it
No book. He’s saying he only wants $50 but I’ll give him $75 anyway.
Hey I have a few questions
Well a couple
Do you guys use any tools to remove the assembly pieces from the frame, and should I paint them seperately or paint the whole model after applying?
Firstly general side cutters will do the job, I’d also suggest a sharp hobby nice to trim any remaining tabs, secondly it primarily depends on what mini you’re painting
Mainly guardsman
I refuse to paint vehichles in seperate pieces it just makes life harder
Well generally speaking for guards you might be best off putting the legs and body together then painting the rest (arms, head) then putting them on
Small bit of sticky Tac and a pencil work for something to hold the parts
Alright thank you
Now I just gotta decide on a color scheme for my cadians
I already have my kriegers in green and brown so I want to make 'em stand out
Still working on him, been excited to paint this guy since I got him.
That's a crispy El Camino!
Thank you, I personally wish the white came out cleaner
Yooooo, that looks sick.
I appreciate it
Oh dang, Raven Guard?
It really depends on the model, some models can be painted with no issue when fully assembled, others create lots of hard to reach areas, so subassemblies are preferable.
Yeah deathkorps are definately a pain when you paint them all together
Too many nooks and crannies
I have a pair of warsuits to assemble and paint. I think it's going to be a long process
Finished my first Kommando.
Looks amazing
Nicely done👏🏻

I Need just a pack of chainswords of varying sizes
Buying a repentias box just to steal all their really big chainswords for my carcharodons
Looks really good
you looking for specifically chainswords?
or will any chain-weapon work?
hmmm that is a good question
I think carcs fit swords better
but chain-axes could work
I have a few power-sword wielders I've already painted I am considering stripping and then replacing the power sowrds wqith big chainswords
In that case maybe consider khorne berserkers? they all have chain weapons of some kind
but they do favour axes really
I do have this spare chainsword if you wanted it?
Started working on my sergeants face and my little one asked if she could paint, so I have her base coating my infernus
Starting them off young,
Levithan slain. Now to wait for next box to come out and play some games.
YOOOOO
There we go, too many 'o's for mr bot's liking
Damn the bot
Those are looking amazing
I'm seeing cataphractii legs and what I think it s custodes body?
Is a custom sculpt I got from a guy. But essentially a Disgraced or.. (Honorable) Devourer from the heresy.
Is now the dreadnought above.
ooooh that's cool
Or proxy for helbrecht
BLU
any tank with a dome and the Spike grill gets a 20 dollar fortnite gift card.
God everyone here is so good at painting
Good job for coming out that mans balls
You do a lot better than you think
Have you seen my stuff?
Sir yes sir
Very cool looking marines, and it's coming from a space marine hater 😅😅
Leviathan brought me back into the hobby since 8th edition
I love the red and black look on those.
Always loved behemoth since maccragge box set
YOU WANT TO SEE A HORDE, BEHEMOTH?
THE FUCKING LEVIATHAAAAAAAAN
TYRANIDS BEST IN THE WOOOOORLD
Yeah, but looks scary fragile 😅
Nah man, you got a pretty cool collection !
Yeah me too
Maybe one day man
Well
What points are you at anyway
My entire collection of nids is a bit last 6k
3600 points painted, I'd say around 8-9k total?
Heh?
That would scare my dogs half to death if I put that on the floor
10k painted around 16k in total
Bagged the Leviathan box locally on a discount
Also secured a Company Command set too
Nice find
Raven Guard Phobos Librarian

Welcome to the jungle
With the leviathan box can i make all the marines into salamanders
Like do i have the ability to give flamers and shit
I don’t fully know what comes in the leviathan box tbh
No, I mean, THE INFERNUS SQUAD, but that’s it, and I guess the librarian can use fire
It’s perfect for salamanders tbh because of the infernus squad
True
Or just Vietnam, 19 yo with a flamethromer
Ratatouille
Thanks ill buy that many
Damn, that should make a lot of nids!
Think I'm gonna keep faces super simple like this Bugman's until I've "leveled up" 🤔
Infernus was first time I blended metallics, runefang steel and then a very thin coat of runelord brass on top
Contrasts work very well for heat colouration at the end of your barrel
It's simple and easy to do, just need blue, green and purple
That's all I've got to get is green then 🙂
Yeah, just go blue, green and purple about two thirds down the guns metallics with each colour getting smaller. Purple ending closest and blue ending farthest.
There's some videos for it on YouTube, it's a quick and easy way to add something cool to your models
wanna paint another chapter for fun, should i paint crimson fist or dark angels?
dank angles
Marines malevolent
i like black armor dark angels
Dark angels
Finished the boy today
looks great i assume hes a risen
custom bolter baby skull 💀 freehand
Yep, I'm doing a risen Bladeguard unit for my lion
to be fair fallen is dripped out, probably more than unforgivens.
don't tell Lion i said that i am totally not a fallen
Bloop
First proper miniature painting competition and the first award from one
I'm working on how to do green stuff robes
Started on a warsuit
Wanted to try something new with my mini of the month. Not the best, but proud of how it came out still.
That is some sweet freehanding
Thank you!
np!! ^^
I'm building a warsuit and I'd like to be able to swap it's primary weapon in the future. How would I go about doing that?
magnetizing it
Finally based and done, just his brother to do now
Ayyy we’re getting there too!!
Cut holes and glue magnets in?
looking mighty fine :), think after the armigers are done I'll get myself a warden
going to have to do a top gun style paintjob on it
That’ll look amazing I bet
Looks like such a fun project
Questoris are good it’s the armour that takes a long time, the main body and legs are really quick
How tf am I suppose to recognise you without the Millie pfp?
looks great, what is your weathering recipe
Slight reposed the new Titus model.
Lil WIP before I go to work
We out here assembling the box
Guardsman I made using just the Cadian upgrades just to see if I like painting guard and learned I love it
Just painted the first ten, will switch to a black background later and see how that looks
Very good looking gaunt!
Id kill for half your skill
Mwahahaha
DAMN YOU!
Never let them know your next move
I think this is the model im most proud of but I haven’t been able to paint in a year so my shitty model are shitty and old
Damn my nails were still painted in that photo
I gotta ask my boyfriend if he is willing to paint them again
I really like the light green in this lad.
Thank you
This is one of the more “recent” plague marines i paintef
Still very old
Looks great! I think for Nurgle if it looks like you could catch something just by touching the base then you've done your job well haha
I want to retouch the base when i have the financial ability to buy shit for it
These 2 are my most recent of any mini
Im very good at taking pictures
I miss painting
Very solid!
When i first did the cloak i thought it looked ass and didn’t fit ngl
The more i look at it tho i just get torn between thinking its shit and thinking its good
Well what bits do you identify as bad?
Just the color mostly
Metallics or the greens?
Green can be one of those colors that's a pain.
Layers and layers
I'm a +1 for the green
Contrast over grey seer?
Das sum knoife-eer talk roite dere
All part of the master plan
Take your plan and eat you weird anime monster
For highlights on black?
Bit more done
yeah, it is probably the hardesr paint to highlight due to how fast it dries.
Ironic you say that. I stopped using it because I had two pots dry out insanely fast.
I thought I had just messed up. All the pots in our store also dried up.
Dungeon stone out of the army painter D&D line is pretty similar in color however.
Painted a brain bugé
Oooh spooky I love it!
I love it!
The shades on the carapace armour is amazing!
I overdid the white on the crest
Nah I think it looks fine
Sort of points out that they’re quite high ranking kinda
Especially as it’s just above the face it just works
Hmnm, yeah wel basically. Dawnstone, nice color, dries fast, makes it incredibly hard to paint. I wish to find similar color that won't dry as fast. haha
I love the carapace! It looks like coral. What paints did you use to get that?
It’s just Averland with a seraphim sepia shade
Primed with a wraithbone zenithal
Awesome. Will have to give it a try on something one day. Maybe as wraithbone bits on some Aeldari constructs
Easiest way I found is
GW have a hive fleet Jormangundr painting tutorial on their yt channel - I just did the wraithbone as yellow goes on easier on white than black
I meant the actual wraithbone material in the models, not the colour, sorry if that was confusing haha
ohhhh
That’s just the basing with the wraithbone primer
I haven’t touched the bases for painting yet
But yeah saying that those bits on Aeldari would look good in the same yellowy/coral look you achieved for the carapace
First time building a marine
Instantly destroys the face with glue by accident
Pro tip never use a paper towel to wipe of glue
Needs more Hazard stripes
I learned that lesson yesterday too
I’ve paid that penance
Wraithbone undercoat with coleia greenshade wash, white scar dry brush then black templar over carapace dry brushed with sons of Horus green and deer kin flesh
Thank you
Congrats, free battle damage
What kind of glue did you use? I use super glue and whenever an excess is on a model, I quickly scrape it off with a spare toothbrush.
Its not 100 percent, but at least it spreads the glue enough to not clog any details.
Congrats on your first marine build btw.
Just some light brushing of silver over that and you’ve got some nice starches. Just tell everyone it was intentional
I use the citadel glue and thanks everyone ill make some sick battle scars
Wait titus is already out?!?! :O
Yep, friend of mine split a box yesterday.
Ohhh I want Titus just for the sake of it being a nice model
Might have to pick one up in town this weekend I had no clue it had launched already
Just yesterday actually.
Unless I’m misunderstanding and it’s not out
MOAR
The details on Titus are sick af.
Came out in stores just yesterday
Yeeeees
I need to do the praetor at some point soon. I have a custom helmet and everything
Oh fab
Do you mind showing the back of the cape? I need to get an idea of how bumpy it is
Hmm okay not too bad
I’m planning on putting the silver skull there and just needed an idea of how hard it might be to get it to sit flat
you cant scrape that off, its nbutyl acetate
use your finger
its only minorly dangerous to skin
Need advice on painting Grey Knights I was gifted a box of Termis
Silver is your friend, basecoat, wash, drybrush.
Your 80% done
Grey and silver, grey base coat and then dry brush silver over the top
Can look beautiful especially with a wash
Grey base coat??
I find black works best as if you miss it then it just looks like shadows in the recess
i would prefer black:
-
Im colorblind, I will leave some details unpainted
-
free recess shading.
It's alot more forgiving for people who aren't doing sub assembly
very true
what silver should i use?
dont use black for shading, use a custom mixed paynes grey
it will improve the look by a lot
the prebottled ones are mid
Gray knights steel
If you want to give it a burnished look, you could dry brush necron compound over it
I wouldn’t recommend washing it but a recess shade of drakenhof nightshade should do the trick
speed paints 2.0 how are they?
ty
ooo pretty
Does plastic cement work alright with primed parts?
A thing i must say is:
Your mini's always look as they should! Every time you post a guard infantry mini or a tank it looks battleworn in a slight but really nice way... if i doesn't had a second army, i probably would go for guard only cuz of your pics here 😉
(side note: Votann are crazy to paint)
in other words should i mask the joints of the parts when i prime
I did a whole army like that
It’s like classic necrons, I love it!!
Thanks for the compliment! Even after guardsman number 39 they continue to be a joy to paint
Glad to hear that you still having fun painting them... I had not that much time in the last weeks to focus on my votann tbh... 5 minis for a hearthkyn squad are waitin' to be finished... Hope i have them done soonish
If you can, yes. You can scratch it away after if need be or try to dissolve the primer with plastic glue, but the easiest thing to do is just stick a bit of bluetac or something over the joint before you spray
“Plague ogryn!” is ready to support my moebian 6th traitor guard in 40K/kill team
overpriced inferior acrylic ink with a ton of additional binder, just buy acrylic ink instead
How do you think it compares with citadel contrast and vallejo x cores
Xpress*
I don’t think it tastes as good as the other two
Grey seer primer smells delicious no cap
I’m not wearing a cap
So, both of those failed xenarch testing for one, which if something is failing that, it means the product is a scam. the binders in all 3 degridate very quickly from UV exposure and lost out over the bottom tier inks like daler rowney and liquitex.
Yes, both of those ink brands, used by hobbiests and called good inks are in fact, the worst professional grade artist inks on the market
Send me a link to something you suggest if you could, price isn’t really a barrier for anything but like to keep my hobby spending to 50-150 a week
Not by even a small measure either, like drastic worse than mid tier ones
Depends on the country
Jerrysartarama.com look for golden high flow or holbein. Holbein is way more expensive but they have some very unique ones like pbk31 and pbr25 which are both extremely rare(also expensive) pigments
With holbein, only buy the 100ml bottles
the 30ml bottles arent that much cheaper
Golden high flow titanium white is the white you want for paint too
high flow is an ink like paint
which means it has all the benefits of a paint, like better surface tension so better adhesion with less retraction, but its as thin as ink
which is the ideal consistency for painting
I have a video somewhere of the golden high flow titanium white one coating black
Almost ok. Youve improved more
thats the highest rating i've given here
thanks alot corpse
This. That's a dope as fuck arm
Next boys coming up, bug killers for the empruh.
nice color
Yes.
Thats a very high rating from me, someone who is an actual real certified art critic.
Yo I'm going to make this guy into a plague Marine what chapter should I base him off of I'm going for a salamander
Art critic my first model
This was before i owned a paint desk and kept all my paints in a paper bag
I did some touch ups too
But don’t have photos of those
what tier are you trying to achieve?
its one dimensional and boring, its lacking tons of detail and only looks like you did a base coat, the tongue, and some minor accents to just get something on the table
Im still painting my tyranids with the same color palette i really liked it
Hold up ill send pics of my hive tyrant
I wanna say 5 months after I started hobby painting
I owned a desk at this point
adding shading would help a ton, picking out parts to add some more color too would be good
There is shading on it now dw
its better
I went back and edited some of my old models
I think after i got burned out of my tyranids i got “better”
This is my favorite model i did
Yeah i agree on the wings
but you can get a very good effect on the wings and very quickly two
scumbling and transparent paints will go far
I want to put screaming skull on the like bone section thingies to make them pop a bit more as separate from the wing itself
Scrumbling is a silly word
Fair
And know what happens when hobby painters change the name of a term?
I have a note in my notes app that has silly/ cool words i like
No i do not
It creates problems in my classes of egotistical hobby painters who think they know everything
Trying to correct me, a doctor of art
nope
I love it, its such a dumb sounding word
These are all real words too its great
My most recent low end painting btw
Damn thats really good
Once i own my own place and can take my paint shit out of storage i want to get better at base details
that base took 15 seconds
Im so bored of my basic ass bases
Damn
the power of transparent paints and painting en verdaccio
I would kill for half of anyone who posts in this chats skill
my base coat for everything is burnt umber, not black
That is true
I recently got salamanders and i (with help) found that it would be a neat idea to paint them like my gecko as the color palette
So like white yellow orange and black
Im really excited cuz it sounds really cool but i gotta wait sadly
These are gonna be the same photo
Yes he has 5 guns and a knife
I know a super easy way of doing that
itys way more than those, its also brown and beige
well brown is a basic color
nothing can replace burnt umber
you can replace black
but not burnt umber
burnt umber my love
rustoleum camo, the sand one
I use grey seer on most of my models except for a few sylvaneth cuz i ran out and had to use grey spray paint (never again)
Alright next time i get paid ill go to my local game store and get them
rustoleum makes the paints for most hobby companies
so its really not that much different
others include duplicolor and ems
for work I use krylon because its archival
Is it cheaper then citadel primers?
Way cheaper
Oh thank the gods
have the same energy
