so adding water to it turned it into a wash. even just the water from my palette was enough to make it like really wet.

someone told me to shake it for 2-3 mins while i shook it for around 20 sec. That might have been where i went wrong but oh well. Ive got another helmet ready so ill continue to torture myself in the morning.

never add medium to a paint put, and never add a medium to it if you dont know what type of medium the paint you're using uses, it will cause more problems

like addint a PU medium to a PVA medium will result in a ton of problems

Good timing; left the basilisk in LA Awesome for about 24 hours. Looks like it’s working as in certain spots (like the railing) it’s grey again but there is still quite a bit on there in places, namely the cupola and the gun shield. When I’m scrubbing with a toothbrush am I supposed to apply any soap or am I just supplying elbow grease? Might just wait another 12 hours or so and give it another scrub

unles with IPA, it really doesnt cause issues with extended exposures

if it cant strip the paint, the paint just wont come off from any paint stripper unless its something like acetone

@plush swift sorry for the ping, I’ve let my basilisk sit in a LA bath for about 41 hours now. It doesn’t look clump anymore but the plastic seems to be tinted tan (the primer I used) still. I cannot scrub it off with a toothbrush and I took a wooden toothpick to the model to see if it could get make a mark, to no avail. My question is at this point would it even be worth continuing to let it soak or pull it out, wash it with soap and water and re-prime? Been seeing a lot of people saying it takes 24-36 hours tops but maybe that’s just for minis the size of space marines etc

@brisk vapor What paints do you use when airbrushing? I'm trying to use citadel's zandri dust from their "air" line, and it just comes out as wet splotches most of the time (not spiderwebbing though, I can avoid that at least), and I also get what I presume is tip dry. Maybe I'm thinning too much (tried vallejo flow improver several days ago, distilled water today)? Is citadel air just that bad? Is this just a skill issue? Currently using the airbrush feels like an exercise in frustration.

I also tried vallejo's game air imperial blue, that went a little better when diluted a bit, but I don't know if that was coincidence or not.

The one upside is that these coats dry thin, even if inconsistent, so at least I'm getting better results than with poorly thinned brushwork.

All I’ll say is make sure to keep squad’s consistent, if you have 1 man in a squad who’s got odd shoulders to the rest it’ll stick out more than it one squads had odd shoulders compared to the rest of the army

Bit of a niche one, but I recently identified the specific model kit that GW used more than twenty years ago to create the civilian truck for the battle reports for their 54mm scale RPG/Skirmish game, "Inquisitor".

This is their original, my reconstruction (including a few OOP parts I had to track down), and it alongside my previously scratchbuilt 54mm vehicles (a Sentinel, Razorback and Arvus - which I'm actually quite happy to see featured in some Darktide maps; it's a lovely little design).

I use pretty much only Vallejo and Citadel. I've not much used the air line but it should work better straight out the bottle. What do you mean by wet splotches? Is the spray uneven or is it just so thin that it barely shows anything? The thing with flow improver is that you add a drop or two of that in addition to any other reducer you might be using for the best results

Depends on what you wanna do... and which setting it should be... only edge highlighting to implement a certainty of sun/light? or more like alien planet with a blue/purple sun by sunset?

Some sort of light blue and then white dots on where the lightning splits / reaches the end .... find this works the best but you need a really fine detail brush or you may hate yourself even more.

I'm not super down with painting tau as I'm too use to painting spesh marines but I too have too many tau still to paint.

I prime black, dry brush grey seer, then dry brush edges with a brighter white..... mostly getting areas that light would hit.

Then flesh tearers contrast, lemme see if I have a recent pic.

This is my somewhat end result but I still have a lot to do.... but urs fairly quick and easy.

Think I used rakarth flesh and nuln oil .... think I gave the whole model nuln oil because contrast can scrape of easily.

And then green world stuff ultra matt varnish at least on the fabrics.

Matt varnish can really help out at that point..... it really annoyed me as well, I use green world ultra matt varnish for my ultramarines as well and I love it.

I do think it's important to figure out what works for you.... I'm honestly not the best painter and cannot sit there for hours most of the time.

Cause if you are just suffering it doesn't help..... so I skim through a lot of videos seeing what might work because I don't have the time to be a oerfectionist even if I want to be.

Define "good CSM Legion". Everyone has their own perception of what they find cool, so what I would build (night lords) may not be your cup of tea. You can also look through old chaos space marine codexes (can be found online) through the various warbands, mabye that's more your thing, you don't have to go with a major legion.

What does contrast medium do? Is it to mix with normal paint and use as a contrast paint?

It's the medium (as opposed to the pigment/pigment mix) of GW contrast paints, and you use it to either get the same finish as with contrast paints, or to thin contrast paints to get the same effect, but diluted.

I don't think it can turn a layer paint into a contrast paint.

Just finished making a war-hound titan via printing the bits. Had to reinfirce the knees due to its weight

It’s something I did a while back for some of my older melee tyranids. Just had some blood angels red contrast and blood for the blood god mixed together and applied it in thin flicks on the claws and weapons to make it look as if they just tore something apart recently

From what I’ve found deathwatch and dark angels are the easier of the chapters to paint as they don’t have their sergeants stick out with different helmet colours. Makes painting them easier as as it makes painting them uniform

Also warning. Uhhhhh army painter speed paint doesn't react well with microsol

Barely touching it caused the speed paint to rip to the primer layer. Had to quickly go over it with a touch of the speed paint mix I use. But yeah warning

try hitting where you want the transfer with a layer of matte or gloss before you use the microsol then come back over with matte to dull it down.
