That axe looks amazing
It was all thanks to speedpaints and edge highlights
Got a 3D printed terrain cargo crate finished! Tallarn commander shown for size comparison
Small hand drill
Way I heard it done is that use use a piece of natural spong and dab it lightly in some black paint. Conservatively mark the model, and then dab some silver in the middle
Just watch out for the terminator’s return fire :3
The commissarial discipline basilisk cares not for return fire
When they return fire with 5 tyrant missile launchers then it might be a cause for some concern
The plastic crack
Guard boys
i love the astra militarum
Ty ty
It's a Kromlech kit
I think it's out of stock rn but it's about $80 last I checked if you want it
It is resin though
I pray that you don't make them on that blanket? If so, good luck...
I do love that carapace

This is my most recent order, a bit of a teaser for my next project.
Is that mud or poopoo?
It's mud when they start firing and poopoo when the Orks keep coming
makes sense
Assembled my hound pack
Doggy
It's one of my favorite bits of the model, the sarcophagus looking thing where the cockpit usually is providers some great visual storytelling
I know It looks amazing!!
Mhm!!!
I’ve been painting up my mini titans lately and it’s been so much fun
I like to think that it's there because a high up Mechanicum adept either died it was wounded extremely in battle but instead of intombing them in something akin to a dreadnought they put them into a knight
Honestly I've considered getting into Titanicus
I would like to paint a warlord
Basically the same thing
It’s so good, the models are amazing
Close enough really
I’m building my two warhounds at the moment
Yeah!!! The models look lovely I'm just out of a job right now
So I can't really afford to buy more
Until I sell a bunch of stuff
Or find a new one
Aww no, that sucks
Woo!
Ooooh you have me interested
Ooooh what legion?
Black legion!
Oooo I like it
Strangely I don’t know many Black legion players
My entire goal was putting together a 2k list for as cheap as possible
Yeah makes sense
I ended up getting a combat patrol, the balefleet box, and 10 warp talons
Ooooo that’ll make a good army
Mhm
I’m wanting to work on my chaos for 10th
I love the daemon prince
That the new one?
Mhm mhm
Ooooo I like
Cultist kitbashing is great fun
Gave one a flamer and one a heavy stubber
I’m going to make a traitor guard force who are aligned with the Iron Warriors
So picture leman russ and rogal dorns with added armour and so on
Absolutely
that's my pyjama and nah they just happened to be there
i have a dedicated blanketish thing to paint on
But yeah for those traitor guardsmen I showed I wanted to sort of emulate the moebian 6th but ended up not really being able to
My plan for chaos will be to make a rather heavy list, so terminators hellbrutes tanks etc. really leaning into the siege look
So I went with something else
I like that a lot
It worked well though
They look fine
I'm not saying they look bad they just don't look like the moebian troops is all
HERESY
Fair enough,
I’m going to wait until 10th before building chaos as so then I know what I’m expecting from each unit
Although I’ll be using the Horus heresy stuff as it fits the iron warriors looks better in my opinion
And from the kitbashed MkIII / MkVI marines I’ve done I’m happy with the results
wdym
Cultists are fun to paint.
we cultist-posting??
Havnt done that specific cultist yet I have three nurgley cultists left to do.
I love cultist models
bro has a bikini top :0
Couldn't figure out where to hid the 2nd magnet. So I made magnetic seals.
Well, 3rd magnet I guess.
When painting at such a small scale, you need a hard surface to lean on.
Black templar box sets
Any of them
You'll have enough seals to make a sisters of battle blush
Or 3d printer
Pick your poison
tyvm
Alternatively, they seem relatively easy to make.
You can NEVER have enough Purity Seals for your Space Marines! Especially the Black Templar! In this video Jay show you how to make Purity Seals that look like the plastic ones from Games Workshop! New Videos Monday, Wednesday and Friday! AND!!!!!! We're streaming all week!!! Thanks for watching!!!

sounds good
i still need to learn how to paint anyways
store offered to teach me this sunday
Remember that!
That's also a perfect method if you have skill xD
Something that a lot of people take for granted but almost nobody tells you:
It's usually better to paint with the side of the brush than with the tip.
Oh, and this: A very light grey will 'read' as white and is infinitely easier to paint than a pure white.
yessir 🫡
I personally use Vallejo Ghost Grey for most of my 'white' painting
And then I only use dead white or pure white for small highlights
Eyes.
You are definitely not wrong, celestial grey is perfect for that ngl
I just go fuck it and wash the eyes till they are dark but the same shade as the rest of the face
Or not do faces at all
Honestly I hate faces, they are not that hard to paint. It's just the idea of not having a helmet in a warzone that makes me cringe.
Izrael
Israel lore confirmed
For me it’s both. Faces are too hard to paint and helmets look cooler
in space!! with no air!!
Updated my BT with transfers.
Nice
Put some matt varnish on it to make it less shiny. Unless you prefer it this way
I am going to but I only have spray on varnish and its too late to do it outside
I will do it tomorrow
For some reason, I decided to paint each mini with a different color. The yellow turned out the worst, if you'd ask me.
They do be neat tho
The Iron Warrior looks great.
Helmets are for NPCs, not for a Succubus leading a band of wyches to steal some mon'keigh
Helmets are badass
Do I need the codex supplement to play Dark Angels or do I need the Space Marine Codex?
U will need both... In the supplements are specific rules and things that are important for dark angels and the rest of basic important stuff is in the main Space Marine Codex (speaking for current 9th ed.)
Same thing is goin' on for e.g. Black Templars
Ok
I’ll be able to use the Primaris I have now right?
I didn’t spend $120 for nothing
Yeah Primaris is the "new" thing. So there are rules etc ^^
@final rune may i send a DM?
Primaris is very new
So it’ll always be useful
First born, or mk7, on the other hand may go
Which is sad cause I love the angry helmets
Yes sir
I think at some point the helmets will return, cuz nearly everybody loves those helmets
Trying to compare these three bases to see which one is best (ignore the rims those are going to get cleaned up later). More or less tufts? Multicolored or Unicolor tufts?
Size tufts?
I vary it up. I try not to really think about it because when you start to think about it, the base then looks planned and unnatural.
I love those helmets lol
True. And in all fairness nature isn’t exactly planned and natural
it's why I love how the patriarch for my GSC has a mk7 helmet in his hand
also what are you using to protect your paint job?
Just a varnish but that’s about it. Nothing too crazy. I’m accepting the risk
lookin' good
If you are smart about it, it should not be an issue. It is when you try to do it under wrong conditions and over coat things get ruined.
Yeah I’m very careful with how much I apply
same, I use my airbrushing station and air filter system so I am able to do it indoors. Quick sprays in the boxed area and not directly at the miniatures themselves that way the coating doesnt build up.
Mhm. Don’t need a lot to do the job, and too much is :c
yeah I do 2 to 3 very light coats to make sure it is thoroughly covered
But yeah appreciate the feedback. Trying to get a good balance for basing.
I was hoping to kitbags the tactical squads with primaris to make modern looking ones
Oh wel
I like your basing, and how you removed that dumb seat behind the breach. Was that a pretty easy conversion? I haven't started to put my bombast guns together yet
Oh yeah not hard at all. I originally built it on then sniped it off since I thought it made no sense.
That easy huh? Cool thanks. Yeah they don't make much sense for this gun.
maybe more variation in tuft size. and selective pruning.
That’s fair too
are there minis for Ravenguard in 40k
Blood Raven WIP 🙂
it was a gift (that they have no record of)
I have some spare ultramarine transfers lying around, shame that I'm so shit at putting them on anything tho
Yes, each chapter has a few of their own minis, mostly characters
I think most of the teasers have been hinting that primaris are just marines now mechanically. No real difference in the rules.
And I mean, if Termie armor can be given inserts/made to work for a human. I'm pretty sure Firstborn can be fitted with Primaris armor.
if there's no difference then what's the point of them turning into primaris? (crossing the rubicon or whatever, I'm not super deep into SM lore)
Technically lore wise primaris are generically better than the first born marines, crossing the rubicon is done to basically give the firstborn marine the new organs that make them a primaris
Table wise it just means a higher definition miniature 🥴
I'm aware of the miniature difference, was more curious about lore wise if they're making it the same
Eh GW table and lore aren’t really too similar so take that with a grain of salt
Actually no, here take the whole salt shaker
(\ /)
( •_•)
(<🧂
Whos getting salt?
thanks
I guess lorewise the normal marines just die out or become primaris over time and their chaos equals just adapt or something
will the chaos ones get primaris style marines?
probably not, unless you got some primaris recently falling into heresy
that can be arranged
one of the new sternguard in the leviathan box has a mk7-helmet
Just what i thought... and new leviathan box will be bought.. new terminators and cybot in it... the eternal crusade needs this
I second for helmets being cooler. As a T'au player I always wonder why so many of us assemble Commander Shadowsun with her ponytail when her suit has such a cool helmet.
Also Fire Warrior helmets are way cooler than the bare heads.
The only unit I've assembled without helmet so far is my Pathfinder from the Kill Team box, but they still have cool looking visors and headsets and things, seems more fitting for a scout unit to be less helmeted because field of vision is more important than protection for them
Rule of cool maybe, and some people like painting blue skin. Someone even made a nsfw shadowsun conversion, whatever floats your boat.
Final update on these guys, they've been given a matte varnish and are now complete
Its from Anvil industries, they do lots of neat proxy bits for guard and other things
Here is the link
Nice, I'd love to see an entire pith hat army in khaki and desert camo tanks haha
man imagine how happy the blood ravens are going to be when the lion kindly donates the emperors shield to them
I wonder what other dudads other primarchs will get.
Dorn gets emps towel
shame that peter turbo became a traitor. He was eligable for the emperors used toiled paper sheets
Nahh emperors hammer, how else is he gonna build a "fuck the iron warrior" sign on terra?
I quite like the iron warriors
I like the heresy era ones except the manchild himself, from current era I did not read anything, but if they all became manchildren like him, I'd skip
I’m doing my army of them as a HH army but going to use them for 40K as well
Perty has in lore destroyed a thunderhawk with only his hands
He’s a great character just poorly written with so few stories
Also he has canonically played titanicus
Or at the very least got model titans
So by that understanding we could then say that he is the only primarch so far that we can guarantee collects warhammer miniatures
Skulls on a rope
Hate me all you want but ultramarines are good in 30k
They don't do anything
They kick traitor ass
40k they are bitches
Referencing Angelus exterminatus?
You bet
Yeah, that was a fun book, 3hrs too long, but still. || perty beating up Fulgrim was very satisfying|| and iron warriors had interesting characters, though they were all idiots
Its done, I may have gone a bit heavy on the grimdarkification but I like it a lot
I don't have anywhere to keep it on my shelf
Oooooo Yas!
So it's sitting next to siegmeyer
I have to fit a stompa somewhere 😅
And my dragons
Oof good luck
It will be glorious
I might get a stompa when I have money just so this thing has something to fight
It’s not a close fight
I never particularly liked orks but their vehicles and Mechs are cool
Gotkanought or morkanough is more what you’re looking for
Haha orks a classic enemies
Mhm mhm
At one point I was considering getting orks
But honestly I do NOT want to paint that many models
And they're also expensive
Only xenos I have are my necrons for boarding actions
Necrons are cool as well
I still haven't finished them all though
Still have a skorpekh lord and stuff to build
I themed mine after space pirates
Oooo robot space pirates
Mhm mhm
I did a bunch of green stuff work
And the paint job was relatively quick
Ooh sounds really good
Hehe they even have little bandanas
mhm!!!
All I see is skeleton power rangers
Did the server just have an outage?
Smartass
The crusade will be eternal. And the Emperor protects!
Warhammer fans justifying spending $3000 on toy soldiers:
Listen here…
I can't talk tho
I ordered the classic metal typhus
Just cuz I could
And I like death guard
I probably single handedly keep the Uk market of GW afloat
not really, polystyrene has a very limited life span, way shorter than that of flesh
Not if I have anything to say about it
LOL
Too late, the amount of micro plastics in my blood mean I am immortal
Real
We're already in a cyberpunk dystopia, I'm just waiting for the opportunity to become a tech cultist and replace most of my body With mechanical counterparts
I'm just waiting that Cybot-Hulls are really working... I want those....
The day I can become a nervous system in an incomprehensibly complex robotic body that is not recognizable as human is the day I win
Is it ever gonna happen? Nah
But a creature like me can dream
Bro i dont get paid till the 9th and its gone on the 8th
Oh sorry i didn’t mean any offense
I am suddenly reminded of bullet train
Is okay
Just don't much like being referred to in masc ways is all :) thank you for apologizing
Yeah im really sorry
Question: can I call you frog?
I think you can stand your games up to fit a few more minis before you need to take drastic measures.
Like getting another shelf
I'm thinking I'll trade off my less usable factions to make space for custodes and admech, as well as my random horde of lending SM/Necrons
That's also a solution
Only Downside is I am the only custodes player in my whole country where we don't Sell GM...
I really should finish up those dawneagles but they are so pain in the ass to assemble
So i could continue building my custodes army
I probably should get boarding patrol of them and then the land raider
I’m a new 40k player just getting into the tabletop side of things with a Sisters army. Got one squad of Battle Sisters made and the Canoness from the Combat Patrol. Don’t have anything painted yet but am looking into paints and schemes to use
Awesome
What putty do people use to cover tanks when air brushing camo patterns?
First squad of plague marines complete!
you did amazing on them
my favorite is the one in the middle with the patina on the nurgle icon
Thanks! I ended up learning a ton while painting them. And I'm addicted to painting death guard now!
Good choice sisters best
Skulls for the Emperor, Blood for the Golden Throne!!!
You see pirates, I see teenage mutant ninja necron
Im doing my best ;-;
I really need to get some time again to paint. I think there is a gw department already filing a paper because I neglected my minis
They look awesome.
finally shrike looks like he supposed to
Birb
The original head made him look like someones edgy OC
The unpainted horde
They are called "Greyshields"
The pile of shame
a couple pirate-y coats and such could work wonders imo
wow thats amazing, love beakies, the classics
Yeah! Burn the heretics!
Not good enough at green stuff to do that
Besides how would I even do that at all
yeah it would be kinda hard now that i think of it considering you would have to build them directly around the guys
My bones are sufficiently rattled
Consider my timbers shivered
It just takes practice, I believe in you dude!
Should I reapply the same base color, ignoring creases or apply a lighter layer color, ignoring creases? (Basically zandri dust vs ushabti bone)
are you asking how to highlight?
did you apply something over the base colour? if so you should probably reestablish the basecoat
(going with your base colour)
otherwise if you're trying to highlight the base colour you should move up one step in value (a lighter colour) or a different direction, so the layer colour in this case
Applied a wash over the base color, but not heavy enough to alter the color.
To clarify I’m asking about layering
yeah, that'd be a form of highlighting
if the colour on the armour is already the base colour then applying another coat won't change anything
so then you move to a lighter colour
Da Mad Morka is growing!
I gotcha. I’ll look into it
Yay orky stuff
Really need to get around to doing some more of mine
<3
Still my longest project to date 😅
it looks very hungry for flesh
It is
Kind of a dumb question, but I think the biggest issue I have with highlighting is I don’t know what crease to highlight and what to let be. Using the model I posted as an example (left pant leg) would I highlight the tips of the folds or between the folds (areas just above the knee pad for example)?
Would perhaps a very very light drybrushing of the lighter colour work?
W a n t
Then it would catch the high points a put a very tiny amount of paint over it?
Haha the battle wagon is a wonderful kit. Although it is a beast to try and paint. 3 weeks that took me
And that was after spraying most of the red you see there
put it under a lamp and you'll see where the light hits
Time is a construct
It took me a month to paint my boomdakka snazzwagon cause i put it on hold, painted once every few days
I got a Trukk I need to assemble and paint
I can't waaiiiiit
I have a stompa that’s been half painted for over a year
I want to actually sit down and get it done this summer
Ah. I’m guessing in an area with no natural light or extra lamps?
Cause trynna make Mad Max but ork
whatever works, I can give a more detailed answer in a bit
Appreciate it
Morkanaught cause it's a Mad Morka
Eeeeh
I'll see on a later day
I paint for fun more than anything ^^
Finished assembling another of my birb boyz
forgive my terrible paint skills, but in essence, highlights happen because you want to show that the area is hit with more light, so first you have to decide where the light is (for gaming models it's usually just straight from above), then you have to see where the light would hit (either using a lamp or following a rule such as "anything pointing upwards is light" or experience) and put your highlights there. Bear in mind that these red lines are neither feathered/blended nor the correct highlight point, but it should give an idea of what I mean.
As illustration, here's a photo of an unprimed space marine I took under my painting lamp, I then increased the contrast so the effect is more visible.
True as that may be, I don't really ever use green stuff outside of filling in gaps in my day to day modeling so I don't really ever feel the need to practice with it lol
fair enough, it's fun to mess around with sometimes
I rarely ever do unless it's easy stuff
Also I've been looking at some death guard stuff recently
I already have a 1k list but I think I wanna expand it after I finish my chaos space marines
I think for cloths, raised areas should be the ideal for lighter colors. As for armor glazing can be more varied. I havent really tried glazing or shading my models though but you know highlighting the edges does 60% of the job just as well
it depends on the effect you're after
Holy moly, that looks very nice. awesome work
Thank you, I’ve been enjoying making my orks, but I’ve taken a break from them for now
Hey, I want to use old batteries that are out of juice as generators for a diorama, is it safe?
no
Plan for my orks is a lot of heavy armour, meganobz, my warboss in mega armour wagons etc
as long as the armour is red you go fasta
Appreciate the example, it helps quite a bit
what glue works best for minis
Can't go wrong with this one. Hasn't failed me once.
Im actually a fan of gorilla glue. Although some sort of plastic glue would be preferable. https://a.co/d/gvRzIdz
Same strong Gorilla formula, now in a precise, controlled dispensing tool. Designed to fulfill consumers’ desire for an easy-to-use, precise application experience, this NEW Gorilla Super Glue form allows you to apply only the amount of glue that you want, exactly where you need it. This tool was...
make sure you get super glue and not regular gorilla glue
gorilla glue takes an hour to set and a day to fully cure
also it depends if they're resin or plastic
yeah tried gorilla glue and it didn't harden at all
plastic glue doesn't work on resin
im using PLA plastic
i tried using some sort of UV light activated glue and it worked decently
like from an FDM printer?
yep
The bottle I link is what I use and it tends to harden if you use the correct amount for the area in question in under 30 minutes.
I found other gorrilla glues not work well at all though
30 minutes is way too long to wait for glue to set on a mini
That was an estimate on top of my head
super glue should harden in 10-60 seconds
or at least set
dunno what the full cure time is
Usually I place it and forget about it depending again on the area glued and the weight of the two objects
today i learned that i can composte PLA plastic
finally a use for the big bag of supports i have
Full cure is like 24-48h or something, but usually it only needs a few minutes before you start handling it.
And yeah, plastic cement only for GW style plastic, everything else gets cyanoacrylate. (Or something else if you're particularly knowledgeable/brave)
How well are these to paint? Need priming? Cleaning? Or can you just slap it on
oh boy, do I have an exciting document for you
there is no best plastic glue, its all blends of acetone and butyl acetate, sometimes other things like methylethylkeytone and cyclohexane. Sometimes its just pure butyl acetate or acetone
you dont need to prime plastic if you're using acrylic. I have some documents about this, the tl;dr of those though is if the paint slips off then its incredibly low quality paint
I tend to use much thinner paints to.. paint.
But I don't have that problem unless painting old toys
so which ones should i avoid for PLA and ABS
But glad to know I can just get onto the model.
doesnt matter, this was tested at a 100:1 water to paint ratio by several high end paint companies. I have a lot of documents about this actually as it's something we've been researching for well over 50 years.
Hell yeah
Well for PLA you'll need super glue
3D prints have become a much more frequently used and a more readily available medium for artists and sculptors. why doesn't gorilla glue work
That's a lot of words. I'm just gonna take your word on it.
depends on which one, gorilla glue isn't just one type of glue, they make everything from polyvinyl alcohol blend glues to cyanoacrylates
Yeah... this is my daily life, I make paint for restoration/conservation clients
well now i have a lot of reading to do
That's really cool tbh.
So what say your opinion on primers and the way the hobby space paints in general.
primers are unnecessary for paint adhesion and the hobby paints?? well... I've tried over 50 brands and none of them were that much better than student grade or craft paint, including particle sizing... in fact the particle sizing on a lot of brands was larger than that of craft paint.
In fact, most failed to beat the good student grade paints
I use primers for one reason and thats a coherent color for a base
because I do a lot of modifications to my armies, it helps. Like I replace barrels with metal ones a lot
Thanks for the info
I wonder how should i expand my custodes army to 1000 points or above next
Probably 1 or 2 warden packs and contemptor dreadnought next
Still so happy this model is (slowly) but surely going to be all in plastic the resin version must be a nightmare with warping panels and all the detailing especially on the back
How big is that thing?! The Knight Cerastus Lancer is coming out in plastic – get a proper look: https://t.co/XQXQIsIriG

Hopefully it comes out soon i must have
i love the way the knights look
i have a few metal tank barrels. do you replace barrels on figures too? I hadn't though of that.
Ok idea. So I was looking at the free guild armies in Age of Sigmar. And I noticed the Griffon General kinda looks like (or is) Karl Franz. So I had an idea. Could I make a space Karl Franz by combining that model with Lord Solar Leontis? Or whatever the gold boy’s name is for the guard.
yes, i mill my own
I gotta try it. at least some heat shields or boltgun barrels
I made some 1:35 scale rounds and empty shells for an m1 abrams not long ago
do milled barrels look good? i'd think a lathe would make a better cylinder
do it with hand tools
I just like doing weird things
speaking of weird
i want to put some LED lights on my tanks
for the headlights and spotlight
The only way to live.
heres some barrels
What if I told you that Japan, who has the strictest gun control laws IN THE WORLD, not only had more guns than any other country 300 years ago, but also had some of the most INSANE weapon designs of that time period!? Today, we're diving into the wacky world of Japanese guns!

Cheese is pretty tasty.
Can use priming , but I usually wash them before priming the paint holds on to it
And are quite easy to paint but I had pil issue when reassembling this one in particular, the legs took me a while to place back together
looks like a fine gentleman with a monocle
Seems like a chill dude. Someone you'd peel potatoes with.

Redid my sanguinary priest. Changed up his armor from red to bone white. Gave him better arm proportions too
So far my nihilakh army
any phobos strike team players for killteam here? Got them and started putting them together, planning to magnetize them so I can have most options available. What is a good list for them?
You cant handle my strongest list, adventurer
Which bolter should I use for the fists
Use which ever you want honestly
It won't matter which type you put on in 10th edition as they'll all use the same profile
auto
this feels too smart for GW
For 9th Ed.? Auto or Stalker Bolter... both good in different cases... Autobolter has charge options... so u can fire even after moving more than usual 6 inch....
If you are unsure, check the weapons stats and abilities in your assembling instructions/codex supplement/core codex...
10th ed unifies all profiles into 1, so it doesn't matter anymore.
The new necron rules look cool
Now personally I’d say auto bolt rifle, because a bolt gun with a box mag just seems fitting for a marine
2nd try on energy sword/weapons...
you cant be serious gallowfall isnt available to order same damn day it releases
You'd probably need to go to a local GW store to preorder it on time or something
Nope, it was sold out even while in stores
It was sold out everywhere instantly, even worse than soulshackle
Feels bad moment
So, no restock? Or do we have to wait until the box parts get sold separately?
Theyn done... (sorry for shadows)
Debating if I want to do cement/permacrete on the ground or mud
Why not? looks like urban ruins
u could also go for asphalt street or cobblestone street...
Is that cake?
XPS foam
Sometimes you just want an easily accessible snack at hand between turns
understandable
my spotter brush died 😦 any tips to maintain your brush bristle for a longer life usage?
Don't get paint into the ferrule (the metal bit), clean it properly and frequently, use some sort of brush conditioner (assuming it's a natural hair brush). The first one is the most important one, paint going into the ferrule and drying causes the brush to split or misbehave.
yeah mine split due to that, its not as accurate anymore, cant do precision painting
Use this after every session. Works for me.
First the cleaner and then the gel
Like this?@rare hornet
how to use it
It says on the bottole
Use the cleaner and rinse it on a paper towel and wash it in water. Then use the gel and that's it. Just leave it. I keep my brush hats so I always put those on
Btw these are the only brushes I use.
For now
he's looking very good
size looks small and nice, how is it when you use it would u recommend the brand
It works well, can't really compare it to anything else since this was the only one I used
It's the most wanted set from army painter I think
Still gotta finish the base but it’s almost there
Probably going with a cracked roadway or something
God those new weapon teams look s ogood
They are very cool. It’s a shame they aren’t very useful on the tabletop rn. Maybe in 10th
Reworks will be done... just watch Warhammer Community articles
Soonish there will be a preview article for astra militarum
Still very much a WiP, but very satisfied with this. No airbrush!
Here is my finished heavy lascannon and heavy bombast field gun. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out but the wooden bits could have been done better.
Very nice weathering on that FOB
I know.
OH ZOG
Oh perfect time to post muh gretchinz
They tiny
They ugly
The gonna do a stabby
Really happy about the one with the helmet
They look decent compared to my boyz.
Let’s get some more orks in here
The only ones having fun in 40k.
Have a wip.
Almost done
These are very old ones...
all the basics have been assembled and glued. just waiting for the paint to arrive now and maybe i'll add some extra stuff
i couldn't hide all the printer marks but i think it's still pretty good
well worth the price at the very least
one day i'll get a resin printer so i can make these correctly
took me a shit ton of my free time just to sand down the printer flaws
Correction
They look awesome compared to nothing cause they are awesome by themselfs
And your boyz are a step in a journey that'll lead you to where I am now and beyond
Cause remember kids, it's not about painting better or as good as someone else
It's about painting for you
But fug you for painting better than me >:C
(iz joke)
Wip
Some things I finished yesterday

Not Warhammer, but dangit I'm proud of 'em
Back of the wizard's cape
Some more chaos chosen
First I base whatever part I want green with wraithbone. Then mix of aeldari emerald and hexwraith flame, don't thin it too much. I let it pool onto the wraithbone
I'll have to keep that in mind
Brood brothers sentinel
Made it so it’d fit with my genestealers and patriarch
Yeah, it’s a broodlord, but I’m proxying it as a patriarch since LGS is fine with it
Mwahaha
First time I painted miniatures or anything for that matter, painted these lil dudes tonight, I think I didn't do bad
Crimson Fists?
btw two of those are low quality sable if you didnt know
does anyone know a good citadel paint to drybrush/ use as a highlight over mechanicus grey?
Planning to make a weathered russ paint scheme with mechanicus grey as the base
oh hey, we had someone earlier ask about cleaning brushes, got anything to add beyond using brush soap and water?
depends on the type, but warm water, brush soap, and leaving the brush in some ferret shampoo can help
if you cant find ferret shampoo, and I mean the good stuff, then anything with a coconut and argon oil blend will do
There's specific ferret shampoo? ._.
Yes, it helps retain their natural oils
Yur mean
Makes sense, I guess.
Honestly orks take so long to do sometimes 😅
I absolutely love mega armour models, but the amount of cables on their back
fur coat conditioner can also be useful at times
Cables are what makes it fun
Oh absolutely they look amazing when they are done, but they are so time consuming
Just for an example
I'm going to be working a lot on my ork in 10th
Now I wanna show ya the rest of my orks
went to the Warhammer store and they made me paint this wretched being
bloo
Spess mahrine
Shpaeche moarine
Little bit of progress on my sergeant.
Give him a cool name.
On a serious note, plastic model, I assume? What type of glue did you use?
haha, that's funny
Polystyrene.
Luk da Lefty
So plastic glue?
But usually, clip the arm off, and replace with a different hand
If you can remove the arm, do it but since I doubt you can seeing you painted it
Use your cliper to remove the hand, flat side near the body, not the hand
Clip a right hand from your leftovers, glue it on and voila
Cutting it off is probably your best bet, if you used very little glue you might be able to bend it off, but it risks damaging the rest of the model.
@rare hornet Am I winning dad?
oooh that buggy is looking goood
I finished it a long time ago
Now it just needs some paint.
still looks very good
Got also a scrapjet, a smasha canon, three deffkopta, and one trukk (trukk is still under construction)
I'm gonna be honest, the trukk is tricky
I'm to the point where I'm painting the frame before assembling it
Frame? Chassis?
English is naff m8
Daaaaaamn He lookin' fine
Love the wee red lines at the backpack
Still gotta paint my boys cause dey ain't looking the best
Arf, maybe they are
Judging your own paint is a pain
boyz are a tricky one sometimes
They aren't even Bloodaxes and yet they are tricky
Aside from guard, orks, and Tyranid, are there any other armies that have been considered to be horde armies?
Cultist only chaos list?
Also Tyranid cultist
Oh and demons
As in, any demons
Once a warp portal is open, it's pretty much free game
You mean genestealers?
Genestealers
Right
Thank you
I know their supposed to be a gretchin back there
But there was a problem where the model wouldn't set itself correctly
Had to improvise and now we can't see the gretchin
Uno ripperé
Smol
That's not the meme channel
Eh, it does it's job well enough.
Well what I was more inferring was that they werent synthetic as they dont list the fact they arent on the package very well
they list it sometimes as rotmarder or rotmarder sable, rotmarder is red sable, so the website lists it as red sable sable
Not bothering, just makin' sure you won't get warned
Painted a little guy
aye
seemed the nicest to paint in my eyes
the hegemony are too bland, urani-surtr regulates were, while the main boxart choice, looking a bit tedious and didn't come out right when I tried it
Yes, if i hadn't made a promise to my friends that i will make the votann counter offensive to "angry marines" aka Leagues of Rage i would have also chosen ymyr conglomerate ^^
Some of my LoR Votann are already posted here a bit above in the channel 😉
I did 4 of my Hearthkyn like the DRG dwarfs
Rock and Stone!
Lemme grab em hang on
⛏️
Also a Paragon Warsuit from a week ago
Nice ^^
I have currently Black Templars (Custom Crusade) and My LoR Votann...
My GF is currently figuring out which Chapter of SoB she wants to make xD
I have 5 more dwarfs to paint, 3 Brokhyr Thunderkyn to prime
But also 6 more Carcharodons to paint and 5 heavy Intercessors to prime
My pile of shame is growing >.<
😄
Oh and a Chronomancer sat half-painted for maybe 2 months now
Mine is melting.. Currently only the Votann Army box left and now working bit by bit on Hearthkyns
And after Votann Army Box is done i will get some Black Templars Reinforcements as also a Votann Boarding Patrol box... i need those Einhyr Hearthguards....
There is no way in hell I’m not buying Leviathan
I'm going to share a work in progress, they are Legion champions for the command squad of the Sons of Horus.
Carsoran axes and combimeltas
Never going back to liquid super glue after using loctite gel
loctite works on plastic?
Loctite super glue gel
When I need to glue a mini to a prepped base it’s much better
yes... it works on everything pretty much
Another chaos chosen done. Only 2 to go
Especially fingertips
A little Nork Deddog update.
how do you make the splatter effect, looka very cool
You "stipple" it on.
Try to wipe it off of metals since they wouldn't collect mud as fast as clothing.
And then I also turn into a air brush and blow some on with a straw and paint brush.
ah human air brush
Yeah
tooth brush technique works
Hey guys, what are your thoughts on the yellow marking on the left knee?
My raven guard captain coming up nice
It will not give this effect.
yes it will, literally what its for.
Sure thing buddy. Post your work.
You mean like flicking the toothbrush with your finger to spray the paint right?
Probably will be a bit messier I suppose
That will give you a worse/less controlled spray effect (imo) but won't give you the stipple effect around the where the boots and pants connect.
Now is this stippling or is this toothbrush?
there
The dots are from a toothbrush if I had to guess. Still doesn't change what I said.
If you don’t mind using a tiny bit of masking tape I’m sure that would protect the areas you don’t want covered?
its stippling
People can use whatever method they want, in just find using an air brush or a straw is more controlled and skips a step.
Congratulations 🎉👍
I can tell just by looking at it that it isn't 🤣
it does change a lot, because you can use the tooth brush technique to create controlled randomized bursts of it very easily
well you'd be wrong
Very nice freehand.
straight enough, so you've improved a lot since you've been here
Your convex dots are all I need to see to know it's not stippling. Anyways I don't care to argue abou paint so have a good morning or afternoon.
May someone explain me quickly what stippling means
Well its stippling, so yeah, dont tell me what I did and didnt do
you paint dots
People
Its plastic figurines
Shhhh
Enjoy the paint fumes
Retributor gold tastes good trust
I’m just confused about how an argument erupted over whether someone painted their mud dots by hand or not
I forgot the name of the "artist" but there's a guy selling literal polka dots for millions
Actual money laundering
Achievement unlocked: “How did we get here?”
Elitism mostly, trying to tell me, someone who used a heavy bodied paint to stipple, that it wasnt stippled
That’s an absolute bargain
Damien hirst
You're still going 🤣
He's an asshole who doesn't even do the stuff himself
Yayoi Kusama or Roy Lichtenstein
And sells it for millions
I'll take it all 👌
Actual waste of oxygen that guy
He has his assistants draw polka dots and then sells it
That doesnt narrow it down at all to be fair
For money laundering
Said the name one message before
Damien hirst
It's crazy what people get away with
It's not even a secret
Was just about to say that one
Money is a powerful tool
True. People will also pay for dumb things.. I mean shhhh we buy plastic army men
- expensive army men
I just sell canvas and water color paintings i do
Plastic fungus I might add
people are stupid enough to buy them
The dreaded pink haired sister
I love how the relic chest turned out
Drenching it in agrax earthshade did wonders to it
The gold is nice and sleek I like it.
I am sorry for being kinda an ass.
I wanna add some sisters to my ogryn army.
we both got a little bit heated
Sororitas are dope
Got warsuits to do and morvenn vahl
Literally highest rank normal human
Most powerful non demigod
I have two sister repentia, but want to get some sisters of battle (not sure what the common ones are called)
Just battle sisters
Retributors are heavy weapons. Sacresants are the shield melee ones
Is it hard to believe I only started doing this end of January?
No, I can believe it
For your ogryns a retributor squad might fit best
A squad with heavy bolters, multi melta or heavy flamers
Little women with big guns fighting side by side with big lads
Older heavy bolter sister from my first squad
Thanks for the positive reinforcement @plush swift @brazen badger , I was thinking of removing the yellow on the knee because it looks strange with my infiltrator. But i dediced to press on with the theme for the shoulder, looks very decent with the arm, they seem to complement each other now.
Looks clean
One of my Custodes hope u enjoy it as I am doing it😅
Golden boi
I just want my order to be delivered. I have no primer and I must paint.
And model too
you dont need primer
I have a few documents about this proving its mostly pointless
"trust me bro"
Got no science behind it but from what i’ve tried it’s much easier to paint over a model that has been primed
same, primer is much nicer to paint on
It also can dictate how bright the colors are that are slapped on it
I think the argument is that a specific primer isn't needed for durability of the paint
Got the science behind it and it doesnt help with paint adhesion at all because the surface tension of the paint is identical to the plastic. It doesn't adhere if the paint is low quality, and only feels nicer is you're using substandard paints. Like no joke, thats the actual science, it's a sign they didn't use enough wetting agent in the paint for it to have a correct dispersant for the pigment
By Vaikunt Raghavan, Ph.D. Basics of Wetting and Adhesion When a liquid comes into contact with any solid, new interfaces or boundaries are generated between these dissimilar materials. Although many factors exist which will promote or inhibit adhesion of the acrylic paint onto the solid plastic, the most important element is the ability of the ...
3D prints have become a much more frequently used and a more readily available medium for artists and sculptors. Desktop 3D printers are now affordable and online 3D printing services are available in abundance. Some filaments allow for full color prints, but particularly in smaller prints, the quality of these prints can lack detail and ... Rea...
not a trust me bro moment, actual paint chemistry
I have more in depth documents than these too
I see. Well i will keep priming because i’m lazy and priming it black with a white spray from the top creates some lighting
Works great for a wacko painter like me
Hey, it gets shit painted
thats all that matters
I still base coat with a black ink myself
Yea and the way i paint necrons i keep the joints and the in between parts black. Spraying it with a black primer just makes it much easier and faster for me
What constitutes a standard paint then? I've used kimera colours, scale75 (and artist), GW last gen and the generation before that, W&N heavy body artist acrylic, schminke heavy body acrylics, golden heavy body acrylics, Jo Sonja acrylics, a couple different brands of inks (daler rowley and liquitex at least) and none of them work as well on plastic (GW or otherwise) as they do over a layer of primer (spray can like gw, badgers stynylrez, molotow black).
dont use heavy bodied paints on plastic, its pointless when fluid acrylics exist. But golden is the lowest grade I tough
might be, I dunno
also heavy bodied paints have some weird issues with plastic
that's why I'm asking
What country?
sweden
Ahh
Ok, so your environment is actually one of the places were primer can give you some benefits
but not that much
cold and humidity I assume?
Yes
well, I can paint straight on, but the first layer will kinda pool and pull away a bit from the creases
so it's annoying
Also straight up in sweden, stick to paints like golden. Golden can be frozen at -30c and still work when thawed
better to just prime it and give it a zenithal at the same time c:
I'm fortunate enough to store my paints in a heated room, so that's not that much of an issue
shipping
and if transporting any of these paints applied to minis would be an issue here I would know about it, that shit would spread fast
oh, I usually don't order paints, much more fun to go look in the store, if I do order it's usually in warmer months
by chance, mind you
Paints need to get shipped to your country
yeah, but if they don't work after I get them I just get new ones
as in, I return them to the store
consumer protection and all that
I need to look more into sweden environmental things with paint, i have to go there in 4 months for about a week
oh, working on a museeum piece or something? or is it "can't talk about it"
Industry convention and some "can't talk about it" things
cool
I cant talk about them because I literally dont know whats happening at the moment
fair, fair
My mentor had all the plans written down, but he died last week so I have no idea whats happening
Just know I'm still going
is it BICCS? (don't have to answer if you don't want to)
I believe so
it would check out time wise as well
I'm only vaguely aware of it since one of the larger universities is involved
Hopefully you'll find it enjoyable.
oh, and on another note, we discussed paintbrushes a while back, and you were gonna get me a list with good synthetic escoda brushes. No rush or anything, just wanted to remind you in case you forgot.
I did actually forget, got kind of preoccupied with life
guessed it was something like that. Like I said, no stress about it.
yeah i'll try to get you a list soon, been sort of busy
Don't worry about it, I have plenty of brushes already. x)
Angron! Blood for the Blood God!!
Skulls for the golden skull throne!
All the base stuff down. Now in to the fine detail.
those helmet horns look great
Those kain figures are so damn cool.
Just the base left. Dunno if I should just cover the eyes lol there kinda rubbish. 😂
Armageddon dust?
Yarp trying it out.
Looks good
I use it on my necrons and dry brush with Tryant skull. Makes it look amazing
Cheers 🤘.. Kinda sad I didn’t get the Valhallan blizzard instead but Armageddon dust is pretty cool 🙂
How’d you get the chunks to pile up so high?
I feel the main problem is the eyes just look too big for his head. If you try again, see if you can get the dots a lot smaller
Put plenty on and I have a spare dry brush and was pushing it about into place.
Huh. Mine is always a little watery
Yeah they are really weird couldn’t get the paint off my smaller brush into the model. Also I might need a magnifier of sort haha 🤣
I noticed that starting to happen with mine I just left the pot open for a while to try dry it out.. dunno if it actually did anything but in my brain it worked lol 🤣
I usually just end up doing a nuln oil wash to bring out detail in the face without actually painting eyes. From arms length it gives the illusion of the eyes being there, like this
Nuln for face?
Yeah, I prefer it to agrax since I find it looks more like shadow while agrax looks like dirt
Ive used agrax fleshshade
If you make the face too dirty with nuln, it's easy to touch up the raised areas with skin tone again
Havent even thought of using nuln oil for the skin parts
I always just use them like nuln = shadows and agrax = dirt and grime, whatever the surface
🤔 interesting. Never thought of using either for face I usually default to reikland
For the actual skin tones my favourite recipe is mixing cadian fleshtone with flayed one flesh. You can leave it more cadian for darker more tanned skin, or add more flayed for paler.
I'm not a huge fan of most of the flesh tones as is from the pots. The pale ones seem to lack a bit of colour to make them look like a living being, and the darker ones are too orange like fake tan, so toning either one up or down with the other a touch seems to make a big difference
Or alternatively you can just play T'au like I do, and not have to worry about realistic flesh tones, since a few shades of blue layered looks great and nobody can tell you it doesn't look "real" enough
Or eyes, since a touch of yellow in the socket looks fine too
My fav is Kislev, I’ve got a few diff like plaid witch and flayed flesh to name another few. I like to mix them for same reason as you mentioned lol.
Me being smoothbrained and only being able to use single colours without added shades
I need something other than black primer on the body
maybe a drybrush of silver along the edges?
It's easy enough to stir a few together on your palette and see what shade you get. You can always add more of one or another to change it if you're not 100% happy before putting it to the model.
Oh ok, well even a piece of cardboard will do in a pinch, if you want to mix paint. But I'd definitely recommend getting a palette at some point. Doesn't have to be a fancy wet palette, I just use one of those plastic ones.
My painting is essentially "least effort required" road
If i paint 5 sm its done under hour or half
I actually envy people who can do that and be happy with their minis. I'd have a hell of a lot more painted if I could do that lol
Well it tilts me to be honest
Im like "man i want to paint how its in box"
5 mins in im just fuck it and just put little leadbelcher on joints and some other parts
Nobody gets there overnight. You should see some of the first minis I did when I was painting LotR minis from GW like a decade ago. The more you do, the better you'll get, and there's no real shortcut to get there
Maybe once im doing contemptor dread i use slightly more time
But i first needs to finish those 2 damn dawneagles that are sitting half unassembled 3rd month now
I'm still at assembly stage with my army. Have barely done any painting except priming a bunch of the earlier ones I assembled. Priority 1 for me is assembling everything so I can at least use them on the table with a mate I play with, then will slowly start painting everything up.
My current assembly project is a box of Farstalker Kinband. Just assembled the tracker today.
