I just use the one, I haven't found an issue using the paint water to thin paints. Though there could be a concern for pigment to transfer but I have yet to notice that when I thin things down.

For squads youre better off batch painting, do 4-5 dudes at a time, so the first ones dry by the time you reach the last, for hordes you can get away with some rough painting, things like washes and drybrushing can really help get a great look out of speedily painted models.

Plastic glue will only bond plastic to plastic, so if you leave space on the base for the feet to touch the plastic, then you can use plastic glue. For any other surface, plastic to: wood, metal, cork, sand, etc. you'll want superglue.

After initially trying Eshin Grey for the cloth parts of my Fire Warriors, I decided it was drying a bit too dark for what I wanted, so ordered myself some Prussian Blue from Vallejo. It will hopefully end up something like this.

I'd recommend a different color for the belt and boots to give some separation. Maybe an extra accent color for a knee pad and shoulder pad panel.

I went into it a bit apprehensive, as the last minis I painted were Blood Angels which are larger and less intensive. Even still I was surprised at how straightforward it was, even when I needed to get into small gaps between the lasgun and the trooper’s flak armor chest plate. You’ll definitely need small brushes though.

so, re: layer paints, there's not much difference between layer and base. Base have a bit more coverage so its easier for blocking in solid colours. You can base coat with layers, it's just a bit more work. You can thin down the base paints to highlight

So don't worry about it too much. Just go back in with the original colour to layer up, then you can always mix that colour with a bit of a lighter colour for your highlight

Get a similar color to the clothing, and glaze over the uniform avoiding the shaded areas would give the uniform a little more consistency in color while retaining its shadows.

So, i just finished priming the space marine part of my Recruit Edition Starter Set, yet i have no idea which Chapter im going with. I feel like the obvious choice would be Ultramarines, for reasons you’ll soon understand - but i’d still like to want my options so i’m asking you guys for help/input.

Need a bit of advice on how to help prevent over-spill on painting where hard edges meet

Like corners and creases in armour, I constantly get little bits on the other colour and it’s a hassle to fix

Best thing I can recommend is start with the back colours, when you then do the front colours the ridges will prevent you from spilling over

Example being shoulder pads - the gold trim and base colour inside

Getting the trim on all the raised bit then accidentally getting a bit on the main pad and going over it, but getting a bit on the trim and so on, so forth

I’m really happy people like my carc’s tho, confidence boosted 💪

So start with the central pad then do the trim, when you do the trim make sure to use the point of the brush and use short strokes

Thanks! I've actually got 2 boxes of the Kill Team: Pathfinders up next. Was lucky on Ebay finding them for $20 each. I'll use 1 box to make all the specialists and I haven't figured out what to do with the 2nd box.

Went to a Games Workshop store, bought a set to try it out and primed a figure

I don't play Kill Team, so assembling them as a 40k unit, but the specialists still look cool (and still have all the weapons/attachments you need to run them as a legal 40k Pathfinder).

Considering that regular Pathfinders all run pulse carbines and all the specialists run pulse carbines, they would play just fine in full size 40k and look way better than the regular dudes. I exclusively play Kill Team, though, so it works out for me.

The main benefit I see is that you actually get the proper modelled things like the drone controller, neuroweb system jammer and grenade launcher on the models. I think those were incorporated into the 40k datasheets after the Kill Team came out, if I'm not mistaken, but seems odd to now buy a standard Pathfinder box and not be able to model the new wargear options we got from the Kill Team stuff.

I think if I got a second box, I'd give them all helmets though since I only want one of my units to be the "special" dudes. Like a sort of elite unit in my army fluff

Is there a good paint already made for textured rust corrosion?

I don't know if there's a ready-made paint for it but I've seen people get the effect by using pieces of sponge or by using pigment powders.

Use a red and brown you've got, mix them to desired color, tear off a piece of sponge, go to town.

Also side note, if starting a new army is it better to list chase or just Kit troops out with various weapons? For example the current lists for heavy weapons teams have 3 mortars. As a new player would it be better to do that or instead 3 different HWs (lascannon, mortar, rocket launcher)

I can tell you as someone who does paint formulas for companies, that guide is actually incredibly bad and can lead to a host of problems. Adding water will kill the binder in paint, you also can not use normal tap water at all as it will change the pH level of paint massively, which can actually cause other issues, not limited to poisonous dust. Non-toxic paint can become toxic because of a few actually dangerous chemicals in it

A few pigments can actually become highly volatile and explode if you alter the pH, and these pigments are found in hobby paint
