I think Spacemarines are the simplest to start "leveling your painting game" in the beginning.

With knights ... well yeah, big models. But if your first model is a 120 € Knight and then it looks like shit after your paintjob.

There was an idiot during the last eruption that tourist nearly go himself killed by walking on top of the barely cooled lava crust because he wanted to look at the caldera a little better. Would abbadon black primer and hand painting zandri dust be preferred over just zandri dust primer if I’m painting cadians? It looks like I can save on time by base coating the model with zandri dust (which is the uniform color) instead of base coating black and then repainting the uniform.

When using contrasts over big flat areas i usually just let it properly dry and do another layer on top of the old one and that seems to smooth it out quite nicely

How’d you do the bases? Is that cork board?

For the small bases i sliced it in the middle, cause i only found ratther thick cork

Then just simply roughened up with hobby knife, a good layer of PVA glue to seal it, add some cork sprinkle for the stones, prime black, drybrush grey, drybrush lighter grey, edge highlight.

For the street markings, painter tape, sponging on white

My advice is to start with the yellow as a base, then when it’s completely dry use something like a 6H pencil to mark out the lines

Then you paint the black on between the lines and then fix any mistakes afterwards

It’s given some pretty consistent results, and a few imperfections is okay rather than perfectly accurate

I'd never go pure white with the armour so scratches and highlights can have that slightly brighter areas with pure white. Then any larger damage can be done with dark brown with highlighted scratches around them

@midnight locust checked again, stuff you have, with scout sentinel, and no pointy weapon upgrades is 385 pts, leman russ is 155 without upgrade, would bring you up to 540.
Bullgryns without upgrades have 90 ptts, bringing you to 475 which gives some space for either Armored Sentinel, Power Fist on Seargent, Hunter Killer missile or such.

I know rather exactly cause i am in the exact same situation with my new guard army, i went for the bullgryns though.

Cause Bullgrys are lovely

(battlescribe app, rather usefull to quickly write up a list and check on those things 😉 )

when i finish the paintjob i just pull them off, scrap them a little off from color residue on the torso and the inside of the arm and glue them

my UMs and Necrons are not full effort and more expiremental stuff happening there

What type of super glue to use to stick my minis to a base I based with stirland mud

Best bet is to scrape a bit of the base and the feet to have bare plastic, then plastic glue and super glue, superglue for the fast bond on the entire surface, plactif for a strong bond between the bare plastics

I usually just go ham with super glue and patch up any overspill with more of whatever i used in the base. Helps with masking/attaching the model to the base instead of just being erected on top of it like a flagpole

You don't necessarily need the spray. If you've gotten thinning the paint down, you can just brush prime the models with runelord brass from the pots. It will take longer, but it can be handy. 2 all over coats, then your other base coats, go over the parts that stayed bronze again, then shade. Hasmoteph here was painted from grey to finish just with a paint brush.

I have vey little patience applying 2 thin coats because paint dries up in seconds, so I have gotten a knack for getting 1 good coat, and touching up where it's a bit too thinned out. that technique only really makes me look bad on the whites, which I can't ever seem to thin down hard enough.

Yea with each model I recommend showing it off and asking for advice and or questions even during steps it helps you to get good looking models without having to go through trial and error

These are tactical squad marines, they are nice and yes it’s good to try out colour schemes but I would also like to add that you can try and complete these models as best you can so you can make all your mistakes and learn all you can on these test models

I am personally just starting as well and the best advice I can give is try to learn from experienced people as much as possible and practice on minis, also when I said complete the miniatures I meant by that base coating them adding details and highlighting and then basing them

Try all the colors you have see what works

Get creative with these practice minis so it’s enjoyable

Don’t make it a chore for yourself
