It's Lorgars fault š¤£
Looking good must have been a pain in the ass but I want cawl too
It's a technical called Martian Ironearth
Yes it was,but the final product It's worth it
Are there any other tech priest models?
Am looking for one or two techpriests which would command the skitarii in my army
Techpriest enginseer looking nice
I'm looking at the Technoarchaeologist
Well I want to make a Hadron. Nothing is quite right
I have 2 datasmith,1 Tech-priest Dominus that it's my Magos,1 archaeologist,1 skitarii marshal and 1 enginseer
I started the army only 5 months ago,I only bought the patrol box,the Christmas box and a box of Kastellan robots and 3 characters
Would you kindly share a picture don't have good internet where I a.
I keep wanting to get him but 50 dollery-doo's is fuckin' pricey for him
Damn yeah enginseer is only like 20
What paints do you use to dry brush any kind or specific kinds
I just use the same stuff I use for everything, home made or golden fluid/soflat. Just dont use inks or thinned paint.
Just wonder if using citadel for example could contrast work or would I need base/ layering
Don't use contrast or wash paint for drybrushing, you need layer, base, or dry for that. Although I would advise against buying the dry line of paints unless you're committing to using it a lot.
thats an ink in some glaze medium, its too liquidly for dry brushing
What I figured just wanted to make sure
Woo grey knights
They are very grey
Grey knights have no right to look as cool as they look
aaaand you sound like a heretic
Eh, I say enjoy your plastic toy soldiers. Grey knights are a cool faction for beginners and veterans alike, for different reasons.
Lead based paint make brain go funny
"Sir the space marine players want to know if there are any daemon specialist chapters"
"Space marine space marines"
"Perfect"
Same goes for deathwatch and custodes
Space marine space marines need to die.
I hope you do know that i am a ultramarine player š
dread bro seems ready for battle
who is the fucking tech priest that looks at a dreaddy and goes "I KNOW, THIS BITCH NEEDS A HAMMER!"
Probably an acolyte of this dude
I swear some of the weapon choices are so damn stupid
Theyāll become a much different grey soon haha!
Ultramarine, black Templars, grey knights, necrons, I enjoy them all
Current collection is mostly smurfmarines and black legion with a sprinkling of nekrons
Some people just like to talk shit to talk shit, if thatās what they enjoy then have at it lol
Since angron is hanging around again Iāve been eyeballing world waters
Eaters
Hahahahah waters
yap.... Fucking angron... Making me regret choosing black legion
Haha!
I went with the sword on my nemesis lol
Only big boy i have is a hellbrute and he looks sick with his big boy plasma and power scourge
Iāve got an ironclad dread and a redemptor as well
Redemptor has the macro plasma
Pic? Love hellbrutes
Far from ready atm
actually even a old pic since i have done some more work on it since that pic š
I know the feels
my paints are still stuck in shipment purgatory thanks to wifes fucking avatar funko pop...
Already looks awesome, yea love hellbrutes, think Iām def gonna snag some world eaters
Oof
If i didnt add that shit, it would have shipped the next day... now i am stuck waiting for week or 2 ....
A store opened up in walking distance to me that sells paints, minis, etc super thankful I donāt have to wait on stuff MOST of the time lol
Yea the only time Iāve really ordered paint or anything it was literally here in two day.
Theyāre worth itā¦right?ā¦the wife I mean, haha! Mines working on some sisters of battle
It took a ton of convincing
It was the detail of the paint jobs etc that got her finally, she loves to paint etc
Hoping my kroot killteam finally pushes her over the limit and gets her to do some of her own models
Agreed to trying kill team with me when we get the time so heres hoping it sticks š
Sweet!
Lemme know how she likes it haha always curious
Have you added guilliman to your ultraās?
Nah
It will come at some point, gonna learn a bit more painting first
Since i picked this hobby up like 3 months ago
Gotcha haha! Iāve enjoyed warhammer for years but the tabletop stuff has only been about a year or so
Been a bit busy couple months tho
I dig it man, I need one of those cases, right now everythingās in toolboxes or on desks haha
Can anyone vouch for vallejo Xpress paints?
Hey, i'm gonna be painting a knife for a space marine and i want to paint it with that cool glaze that people do for power swords. When doing the glaze, do i go from dark to light or light to dark?
Painting swords is one thing, but creating the look of the energy field that surrounds an activated power blade is quite another. Learn how in our latest painting video!

citadel does dark to light
I would
was like 50-60⬠on sale in ikea
Oh snap thanks for the heads up !
Almost done
Oh zog
The first painted skitarii support of my adepta sororitas order
Combining the gold of my order and steel of the mechanicus
working on painting my first paragon warsuit now
gonna see how i can do them to look sorty knghtly but also als glorious golden warriors
Finished the metallics this weekend. Iām a little worried the gold is too much on the squig. Iām sure it will look fine after a wash right right?
My attempt at kitbashing a captain arm with a power sword onto a regular space marine shoulder
Lots of slicing and gluing
Talon or raptor?
So, if I wanted to play the wargame as the Astra Militarum, what would I need to get started with an army?
Yes
Not because model cost... but due to quantity
Likely raptors
Fall of cadia boxset or a combat patrol
Good choice
What's better spray paint, rustoleum or krylon. Does it matter?
Nevermind my store doesn't have krylon, seems my choice was made for me
Ive tried both, they are alright but you will wanna spray farther back than with a gw can
Currently working on neophytes..
Or use airbrush primer
Should I take all of the leftover bits from previous models I made and have all the hatches on my kratos have a marine poking out of them
So I had a nightmare and I turned it into the official headcanon for my iron warriors
Dreamt a Warpsmith petting a Maulerfiend .... and the maulerfiend purring like a cat and acting like a needy puppy around this guy. He was surrounded by daemon engines acting like domesticated housepets all vying for his attention and affection.
Then the warpsmith turned, looked at me and in a deep, tired and disdainful voice said: "Get rid of that."
.... and like a fucking switched had been turned those things went from acting cute and cuddly to the murderous abominations that daemon engines are.... and as the maulerfiends jaws were about to snap shut around my head... I woke up
This is the single most terrifying dream I have had ... and now it is canon for the Warsmith leading my iron warriors grand company
Glorious
Yeah and it creeps me the hell out
I wish I could find some maulerfiends
Daemon engines are not supposed to act like cute housepets. The display was disturbing... that was genuine affection to the Warpsmith (who is the Warsmith)
So out of left field
They are in the forgefiend box, it's the same box for both models. Except you need to build one or the other, unless you got magnets
Ohh ya im aware. I just try for used or rescues first. GW and their silly price rises
Yeah. Shits expensive
After world eaters my future upgrade is a 3d printer, no shame

Probably less expensive
I just dont like resin... yet I would likely print armies with no regret what so ever
Ive worked with a mtn of resin in my hobby life time
kylon has an archival line, making them superior
anyone doing an astra militarum army lmk as i am currently building one. currently i have a gaunts ghosts, combat patrol, lord solar leontus, bullgryns, rogal dorn, baneblade (stormsword), basilisk. And getting more from forgeworld like a trojan and some deathstrikes eventually.
My buddies are saying in the next week or two kasrkins and more will be revamped designs sooo ill be grabbing all new releases, aka ima be poor as fuck but i mean plastic crack right? right????
What bits did you use for him?
You aren't alone... I literally just spent 400 on plastic krieg infantry support gear. Field guns and transports
I had a ton of extra bits laying around and had the urge to kitbash and paint something tonight. Total project time: 6 hours.
Parts:
station forge space marine proxy body and sword arm,
ventless space marine helmet stl
Imperial knight pintle gun armor (right shoulder)
Cut off inceptor hood (left shoulder)
Chaos terminator combi-bolter
Impknight, Tau, and redeptor dreadnaught bits for debris
Ghost ark warrior body and legs. Warrior arm, and death mark head.
Skulls, pouches, and other greeblies found within my bitsbox.
Iām actually really happy with how this turned out
Apologies for terrible pictures itās 1:30 am
Nice
What an absolute unit
A Necromunda ambot, a Deff Dread shoota and a Nobz head, Jaw and bosspole
Cadia Stands box atm is a good point tto startt with guard. Gives you codex, datacards, basic units to start with, then you can go from there. guard expensive though since it is a horde army.
Looks pretty cool
i took 300 pictures last saturday in nottingham :-x
Same here bro, shit is amazing to see
Went there in December
I gotta make the pilgrimage someday
Rejects swarmed near extraction zone. Finally finished the poxwalkers from Tertium
Sweet
Awesome!!!
Our odds on the table top aren't looking so good
Remind the dice that my zealot is top notch
Thanks guys . A little bit better photo of it all
Really excited to have this stuff arrive today. My "I'll just have one army" thing didn't last longer than a couple months haha. I'm still firmly in camp Xenos though, with these creepy crawlies making a nice contrast to my sleek Tau boys
That's life.
I promise I won't get a 3rd army until my Tau are painted at least
Good call
Otherwise it becomes a trap of just wanting to get something assembled so you can at least use on table (with a friend who doesn't care about painted rules)
And then constantly assembling a sea of grey without painting
I know the feeling, although having multiple armies on the go is good for combatting but out
That was the theory behind getting nids. Get a funky organic army that will feel completely different to painting clean armour plates of tau units.
Yes, that's me. I bet you're all wondering how I got here..
Ughh now I want to build my own Storm Raptor..
He's ok because Nurgle moved his brain to the vestigial head next to his big toe
Where's Waldo ??
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2023/02/07/tyranids-necrons-and-grey-knights-launch-their-own-boarding-actions-with-new-boxes/ pretty solid boarding patrols
Next on my list
Yeeeeees
Nice pfp
Haha, the ship is cardboard papercraft from Battlesystems.
And the guy does have his head, just hard to see in this angle š
Ha thanks!
@rare hornet next time you pain hazard stripes can you send me a pic of the guide lines you make before filling the stripe in? Just wondering how big I should make it
š
You are an exalted champion
I got like 5 more marines to build/paint then Iāll be able to run them as two legionnaire squads in 40K
Oh youāve actually reminded me to get that heavy weapons kit for them
Would send you mine but that would take weeks
Iām using Horus MarkVI marines so I need their weapons
The HH heavy kit. Right?
Yes with the lascannons and autocannons
Yeah I got that but only own cataphractii termies
Iāve got some plans for them
The flamer will have a chainfist and a light brushing of black over the front of him as heās the point man/breacher
Sounds awesome
Would be awesome if IW got the shoulder mounted buzzsaw arm that IW terminators got in art
You never know with the HH stuff theyāre releasing
Iron havocs
Theyāve be nice, for now though Iām going to improv my own
Yeah, best solution
I have a set of custom helmets and Iāll give them the heavy weapons
Sounds like a plan
Have actually been looking for mk3 legionaries for my 40k IW ... but the only nerd store in the damned country never has them stocked and I can't be bothered to order them
Thatās infuriating
Yup
Iām looking forward to eventually painting the landraider
Ooh landraiders are awesome
Itās the Spartan
Still debating if I really need a Rhino and why it needs to be the HH one
Itās going to be fun to put all the details and such on it
I want to have lots of mud tracked over the top whatās been shook off the tracks
Then have a bunch of footprints around the roof from the crew walking about
Not having to detail that sort of thing makes me like my hover tanks even more ahaha
Even though it looks amazing when done well, it's a lot of work
Some drums and other equipment stored on the top and then if I can the door on the front to close without the needing to glue Iāll paint the interior and have mud on the ramp with more footprints
Oh yeah, itās going to be a mega project
OK that sounds awesome. I think I'll yoink that idea when I inevitably get one of my own
Iāve already done something like that with my baneblade
OK that looks really nice
That was my first attempt at something like that so Iād like to try it a second time
Can only get better. Isn't that what the pursuit of perfection is?
Exactly
Looks great. You gonna try to sprinkle some grit on it for 2nd try? I feel like would sell the effect even more with the paint job on top
Yeah watered down PVA I know can be good for that stuff
On the tracks I mean
Oh the tracks
Can see you did some on top
Yeah it was mostly the wheels I did it on
Because the mud would shake off the tracks when they drive but it would be stuck in the wheels for longer
If you have some spare legs you can dip in PVA to do your "footprint" thing on top with some grime, would look sick
Yeah Iāll have it a try
Model Weathering is a long and entertaining road. Loads of products to try out.
I want to paint rust... but I dare not just yet
Since I might be painting today In general what brush's and brush size do I use where
Using contrast
Roller
And never thin em yeah? š
Exactly
Also I am turning the HH big axe guy Into a 40k WE master of executions
For World Eaters?
Iron warriors
I exist once more
That makes a lot more sense
Yay
Guess who's still working on his krieg
You are
Is it me?
You got some krieg to paint?
Damn sad for you
I got like the killteam box. But neither painted nor assembled
You can use the killteam for standard infantry and if you want to be smart also kitbash for the rest!
Saves a FUCK ton of money and saves my ass from work with more resin
No, I is pure chaos. My Krieger are there to be assembled, painted ans admired.
But not to be made into a third army
IW and WE are enough for me
... though I did get Gazhkul as a gift so I might need to make a 3rd army as orks
... hoping we get some of those missing WE units in killteam š„²
Though that would be expecting too much of GW
I want a cavalry unit to match the cavalry lords
Rough riders when please?
Juggernauts
Both please?
Yes
votan riding grey knight terminators!
Cavalry vs Cavalry but slightly daemonic
Give me my krieg horses with boom lances
best we can do is stick horse and a rusty shovel, sry
Do we no longer have them?
Still available on FW. Ruinously expensive
Always has been
400 for a squad of 10. HELL NO
Ā£400
Like I said 400 for like 10
Finished my Intercessors.
What chapter are they?
Custom Dark Angels Successor. Umbra Knights. They use Pre heresy DA colors and iconography.
I got some lore on why they are the way they are.
Is that a wraith guard?
Aye. Looks really neat dude. Don't see elf players often.
yeah, I figured id get my 500 points of Biel tan done along side my dark angels
Yeah, the wraithlord is a fine model, stood the test of time pretty well imo
And it's pretty decent on the tabletop
Gorgeous greenhorns
I personally couldn't do the green, never liked it. But I fell in love with their pre heresy scheme.
@rare hornet and I are going to find out how well it does soon this weekend
I dont mind the green how ive managed it, abit brighter than it normally is
Oh yeah, you did it well.
That and I can cheat black armor with the black primer

yeah, do you wash the black armour? or just leave it how it is
Amen
I wash the joints and some detials
Otherwise I do nothing else but paint the silver, use washes, and paint reds.
Except with my heros where I put on some ushabti bone to give a Dreadwing vibe
Bad pic but an example is the guy on the bottom left.
yeah I get what you mean
warpstone glow
onto wraithbone
same green I use for the dark angels but I use that differently
I figured. I used it for the intercessors tubes. It sucks to paint on black.
Good contrast tho.
Especially how you did it on the Eldar. Pristine af.
takes a couple layers to get it smooth
but basically just gotta paint it either thinned or on a large area
I found for smaller tubes, it's better to have it a little thicker to get good coverage. However in turn I gotta even it out as much as possible.
It's a pain but it suits my needs.
Bugger
At least your models will come out warm?
You gonna be alright?
but is it on a shelf?
yeah, just $175,000 in damages
Bruh
I have one on a shelf, he was my first eldar model, he is sad
what? its not that much money
of course he is, he is an elf on a shelf
hes an elf on a shelf by himself
ooooooo
im guessing insurance is gonna be a bitch?
what insurance?
Now to figure out what to do with the eagle head
oh... oh no
oh that's bad corpse_starch, sorry to hear that
blood
Perhaps an ornamental gold, or leave it a stone colour
its not that bad honestly
Paint it
good idea
I just need to replace a counter top, 3 roll mill and 4 printers
other's have suggested gold as well, I'd just rather not paint any more metallics than I have to
leave it as is?
just clean it up?
a bit bland don't you think?
maybe a little bit of texture too it and then you have results of a giant stone eagle landing on an ornate staircase
Any idea how the printer fire started?
that's true, wouldn't go dark grey/black for the base
little moss and lichen weathering on it
moss would be nice
dont forget what keeps happening at slayer sword and crystal brush, the most hardcore things get passed over for more simplified ones because there is just too much so your eye is just drawn to the wrong things
thats why that lizard dude thing won at adepticon
good paint job? yes, but it was more simple than some of the other things so the tiny not super noticeable details popped out way more
at this moment not a fan of the texture of the light grey but it can be worked with
maybe slightly darker, but I wouldnt go too dark
like it doesnt look like any material that would make sense in the context of the mini
I'll probably try something like that
very light stone/concrete or marble
marble would need some veins with it and not sure I can be bothered with that on such a large area
not all marble has veins in it
well true
some is just a bit splotchy
like this I wouldnt say is very veiny
this is carrara marble
alabaster is pretty much just monotone
ye some light/white marble could be nice as well
alabaster is another option too, and it would make a lot of sense
alabaster and gold is very common within temples and royal buildings
yeah that would make sense
i WANT the Lascannon ingame for ogryn
Maybe we will get gun luggers one day
Went to get some extra dice... So naturally i now have these guys to paint
Golden
doesnt look too horrible as is
if you're gonna do something i'd say make it gold or bronze to go with the rest of the base, but the light contrast is nice
gunmetal might work nicely too, especially with some darker wash
Really happy with how the robes turned out
Anyone have advice for painting minis?
Maybe something a little more specific? Do you have a question about preparing minis, which materials to use, techniques, etc?
I'll be hopping off soon, so maybe someone else can answer
Quite happy with how the deathwatch thunder hammer is looking on my Templar sergeant
Yes, a lot. Just ignore all the advice for your first ones, and experiment. Most advice will cause you to over think things and become anxious over it because it tends to be vague and hard to understand unless you know what it means
Donāt be afraid to make mistakes, you can always repaint an area or strip the mini again and start from scratch. Thinning your paints is key for smooth layers, I personally like to use a wet palette for this. Plenty of videos online on how to make them.
Donāt worry about getting 100 different pots of paint to start with. Also donāt be afraid to mix the paints you have!
just to expand on this, mixing colors is cmyk not RYB. this is important as red and blue dont make purple, they make brown
green and magenta make purple
cmyk?
and so it begins
many prints ahead for me in the path of making an Imperial Knights army
so many prints to do
cyan, magenta, yellow, key. Mini paints are designed so you will buy into an ecosystem, professional paints arent. only difference between them is professional tend to be cheaper per ml and are higher quality, hobby paints you dont need to google a mixing chart
effectively: when you buy hobby paints, you've paid for someone else to do the work of finding a good color shade for you
when you buy professional paints, you have to do the exact mixing for almost every color you need
and also according to corpse you dont need primer, but unprimed resin actually makes me want to vomit
its a good idea to prime, but it isnt required
If anyone is curious here is a nice article that goes into the durability of primers https://justpaint.org/hand-painting-3d-prints-with-acrylics/
3D prints have become a much more frequently used and a more readily available medium for artists and sculptors. Desktop 3D printers are now affordable and online 3D printing services are available in abundance. Some filaments allow for full color prints, but particularly in smaller prints, the quality of these prints can lack detail and ... Rea...
basically, unless you can get toom, the primer you use is mediocre at best
Will a hobbiest beable to get toom? probably not
toom?
@plush swift toom means to empty, whats the implication in this context
also
this article recomends PLA for miniature printing
its a brand of paint
yeah ignore their material recommendations for printing, I already had a 4 hour call with them about that
They dont mean 40k miniatures btw
miniature in the art world means something very different
ahhhhhhh
Still though
PLA and, in generall, almsot all FDM prints at a garbage quality
unless you really tune in your print settings, in which your prints take 9 morbillion years
you guys are miniature figures, miniatures are small statues. I've been working with the company for over year about this because you guys have completely ruined the paint chemistry scene
so we have to update a lot of terms
these are, effectively, just a fancier version of the same thing
Well its more than just that, that thing is minor
I guess the question is, the small miniatures statues
are they used for actual art rendition
or for reference for other pieces
Yes to both
indeed
i could imagine using fdm and specifically PLA to print reference
but at some point with FDM, my joke advice of "simply write the Gcode by hand" becomes less of a joke and much more of an aspiration to get that good stuff print quality
resin has applications but FDM is a larger market segment
FDM, and more specifically PLA, is good because it's dirt cheap and easy as balls to work with
"easy"
it is easy to work with
in respect to other printing techniques
most of your problems with PLA and other FDMable plastic (BTW, HIPS is an FDMable plastic, which is what warhammer models are made of) come from your printer itself, or the print slicing, not the material
Resin gives better model quality, but holy hell is it a pain in the ass to work with
easier than other resin is easier to me
and then there are other printing methods that fall into the "cursed methods" category
what are you doing wrong
I have never had a FDM printer catch fire
nothing, i just have bad luck with printers
i had one resin printer catch fire too
Yes
we had a metal x printer at work for about a week before I walked into the office and it sprayed liquid metal everywhere and caught fire
very
thats frankly impressive NGL
WE NEED GUN LUGGERS DAMNIT
Yes.
Any tips for a big contrast paint stain on a jean?
Bleach
Mistakes happen...
Maybe some rubbing alcohol or paint thinner then a warm wash
Thanks ā¤ļø
Caustic soda. Most things will set that stain in. IPA will make it was worse because contrast paints generally using dyes
Another reason why they are a waste of money
(because it means they fade within a few months if you don't store them in a uv protective case)
Blade left now and minor touch ups
Thatās it Iām buying the imperial fists battle force box
Been working on these
Iām not, at least yet I have way too many things to build already š
Buuuuut more gravis is definitely on the todo list
Please make a centurion with rogals head
Will do
Nice getting some work in
I present to you all:
Pilbog Shunkel, the gamer gunker
His good friend Jimmy stankfist and the goon squad
Big models need a lot of time damn
Tomorrow I work on the main body, and maybe the guns
Wooowie thats hot
Unpopular opinion but the 30k emperors children where one of the better chapters before the penis sword
What did the penis sword ever do to you?
We talking the lair blade thing or later slaaneshi toys?
Laer blade
I wish they kept fulgrim with the whole "trapped in your own body" thing
Maybe he still is, deep down
Out of curiousity, any other commissar collectors out there? Once the MTO come in, I'll have almost every commissar ever made by GW. š
@short pine don't tempt me Frodo
The only Commisar I'm getting
The fact the new one is event only is aaannnoying
But the precious!
Also, I forgot him! I have him, but he's still in the kill team box, so I forgot to put him in my collection photo yesterday. D:
I do enjoy me some big hats.
You got the commissar collection?
Nah, this is just from years of collecting Guard
that is beautiful
Schola progenium kill team ? =p
You have done well, young padawan!
I even envy you the 3rd ed Steel Legion Commissar, one of the few I'm sadly missing.
Thanks, wish I could take a better pic, but my phone is an archaic relic..
My collection of commissar through the ages! š
You might notice a few of the more recent ones closely resemble originals.
Close up of each half
Then the missing ones on MTO right now, plus the Traitor Commissar I forgot.
That's pretty sweet! How long have you been collecting em?
if they ever release a ciaphas cain miniature i will get it instantly
Technically, I started in early 5th ed with my first regular commissar and the newer Yarrick that one of my friends sold me as part of offloading their guard in favor of orks. I only started collecting around 2013 when I bought a box of RT guard at an antique shop, which included all the painted RT in this picture. Admittedly, I only painted two of these myself. The commissar with Bolt Pistol and riding crop that is being remade with the new event model was one of my earliest models and my first attempt at using washes and 'Ard Coat. The tank commissar was an trade rescue that came with just a half coat of blue over black primer, so I repainted it as a "war emergency factory refit" style since it's a little beat up.
They actually did, though I wish you good luck in finding one.
I saw one for sale once and I still regret not buying it. Didn't realize fully what I was passing up until later.
Do you have Severina Raine hiding in there?
She's one of the ones I have on MTO. I kept putting her off because I detest Finecast model and missed her.
Shes not to bad to work with
Wasn't many pieces from what I recall
My local store has her unpainted on display as an example of Finecast, but in my opinion it's more an example of why Finecast is bad. Theirs has a sizable gap in the back from shrinkage and the base scenery is pockmarked. Store manager says it wasn't like that when he built it, but that only makes it worse in my mind knowing it can degrade so much. That aside, I've seen and had the displeasure to own a few metals made Finecast, and the amount and placement of inflows is horrendous.
Imagine taking a model of fine details and placing fat inflow connections right on top of those details. I have zero clue who thought that was a good idea, but I hope they got fired for it.
GW is full of amazing ideas š¤£
Do remember if you have bubbles in your models you can get them refunded or if you have mold slips. They are pretty decent people in customer support
True, but not if it degrades after being built and sat on display for a few years. XD
Some of the supposedly "improved details" of Finecast...
Now I wanna run home and check my Eisenhorn lol
He hasn't seen light in years
Because every single grenade needs its own extra flow connection to the body or the "detail" won't come out in the cheap resin.
I own some of these in metal, and I can honestly say that there was zero visible improvement in the Finecast to the naked eye and only many more horrible connections to clean with detail inevitably lost under them.
Also, some of the edges are badly broken up from poor quality resin in molds designed for white metal.
Yeah, this should be a pinned comment somewhere, but don't buy citadel finecast. Either convert to get your result, or pick a different army, because finecast just isn't worth the risk.
What a beautiful and clean miniature with no flaws
Or just go lead, alittle lead poisoning won't kill you
I have gotten a few Finecast by accident or as freebie throw ins with trades like those pictured above. Otherwise, the only Finecast I will buy are models only made in it. Unfortunately, this includes Severina, the current Sly Marbo and a few Space Marines.
Ikr? Don't you just love the little extra detail on the purity seal never before seen on a model? Beautiful!
Seriously tho, I can only imagine how much money the attempt to transition to "failcast" cost GW in the long and short term. The worst part is that they completely ruined the metal molds to make them work with cheap resin. All those lost to it will never even see an MTO revive in metal because the molds are drilled to hell and back for resin. š
Question: should I lie about fixing a room so I can call my gf or head back to my office and not call her
Hmmmm probably best to not lie.
But gf
Whatever that means for you, it ruins trust in the long term to lie.
Oh, lying to work about the room. That's different! If you don't value a career there, go ahead! š¤£
Thought you were lying to gf
Yup! 200% never lie and never let her down on anything truely important
Agreed
Shes a keeper
Showed her my krieg and she's fallen in love with bug fuckers. Getting her the starter kit for necrons
At least she's into the game at all! And on that note, should probably move further convo unrelated to models into general chat.
Not wrong but heres the thing... I mightbhave gotten £400 worth of krieg so time to hire her to help with them xD
Plastic btw, fuck resin
Like 4 boxes of krieg + 3 chimeras + 2 field guns + 2 bullbois
And a Lord commissar to come sometime this year!
Look what i found at good will
Lol that's a lot. And FW resin is actually not bad. I have a few FW models, including a squad each of the Krieg. Just a little size and style difference from the plastic.
I do HH custodes, I deal with enough resin
Lucky sunuva
Fair
I wonder if thereās more warhammer stuff here
I've only started to dabble in FW resin recently, so I'm not that experienced
Should look for it. Or if it's near me, don't and let me know where to look. XP
God speed brother
Lol
Resin isn't fun to work with
So far I've only broken one bayonet by accidentally brushing it with my hand. XP
You poor bastard
Had to buy a industrial grade dremil to build my custode transport
Oof. I've heard that the bigger models can be a pain due to warping and cleaning.
I kinda want the Custodes dreads, but I don't see much use for the tanks below Apocalypse as the army is already points heavy.
HH is going to kill me tho. I already have a passion project hunting down the OOP Mk4 dreads, now I want the legion specific Contemptors and Leviathans for several legions cuz they look so cool.
You aren't alone...
Also custodian tanks fill one role, bitch slap anything that is a vehicle
Lol which is already done well enough by the army without a massive points sink dedicated to it.
Yeah bigger models from FW are pain. There are warped and uneven. You need a lot of time and greenstuff to fix them. Smaller ones are very good. If you compare resin kriegs to plastic ones. Those from FW have bit beter details and proportions that those made by GW
Idk about that tbh, the new plastic kit is pretty good for models in motion or standard infantry
Ordered some bits for a doomslayer space marine I want to kitbash. What SM head do yall think would work best (helmet preferrably)
For which version of the Doomslayer armor? Pic if possible
These guys are such a damn joy to paint
Id say a mix of the sentinel armor and the default praetor suit
Kinda a mix if these two. I plan on going all out with a little green stuff and and filing
I agree, loved painting bladeguard
Perfect balance of added small shit ā¤ļø
Ended up with the alabaster or white marble idea @plush swift suggested
Next up some grime or growths on it
Another beepy boi
luv th' admec
If you want the full face visor, you'll need to head to 3rd party bits. GW has never made a human head in that style since the single piece metal RT days, to my knowledge. Would be small even if you could get the one you want and had the skill and willpower to cut its head off cleanly.
For the Blood Bowl like helmet in the second pic, try Blood Bowl humans. Alternatively, Mk3 helmets for a more medieval knightly style.
Reikland Reavers or Skull-tribe Slaughterers being your best bets in my view.
they are gonna fulfill their service and support my sisters
So, wathing yt vids they say you need to clean the mini with warm soapy water but they dont specify which stage you do it, is it before assembly after??
?
Its something to do with residual shit from casting idk
oooh
Bling marines ftw
I've never actually done that, makes sense though various machine oils from manufacturing.
Same reason new toasters smell like burning
That's only if it's resin finecast btw
Don't need to on regular GW plastic
The mini i built is the armoured sentinel, do i have to wash it then?
Cos i dont know the difference lol
Is it made of a white plastic or a grey one
Grey
So the grey minis don't need to be washed
If you ever get one that's light grey or white that's from forgeworld or it's finecast, then you need to
Wdym
Im guessing scrape it off with the craft knife
Yeah
š
Seen a yt guide i like š
That's good
Need to get ALL the paint stuff tho
Have fun, don't take it to seriously
XD
Uh oh
Holy Guilliman these guys will end up looking cool af
yeah the more I look at it the more I think its the way to go, especially with the tiny bits of rumble which helps break up the brown stairs a bit and gives it more... I cant think of the word, no the word isnt contrast. Only thing that pops in is vavavum which isnt it
some nice gold trimmings
thoughts on my first ever mini painted?
before this i've never really touched a brush
i know highlighting and shading are main things i need to improve, what else?
that looks sick dude
This is my second one
Did you use nuln oil?
that's looking super good for a second one
this is my second one that i just finished this week and on him i used nuln oil
Atleast you didnāt mess up with priming on your eyes so badly that you canāt actually find them LOL
Just work on those and I can go art teacher on you later.
Thatās actually stellar
but i wasn't sure if I liked it? i know oil is literally in the name but it looked too oily lmao
If you want my two cents, maybe (if you have access) use an air brush to put some dust on his legs
@gloomy leaf
i definitely want an airbrush as soon as i can, they're just so expensive lmao
i built a squad of the grey knight terminators and also got some battle sisters
i want to improve my skills before i move onto them haha, so i went the ultramarine starter set
i'm still trying to understand the hatred people have for ultramarines
i get that they're like the good boys of the chapters but why hate them
Itās mostly because of himā¦
Donāt say his name or he will come @gloomy leaf
OH GOD NO ITāS CATO SICARIUā
they're not the chapter I prefer, but reading more about it, it seems like people just think they're boring?
Ah itās just because theyāre the usual poster boy
yeah that I get, they're definitely portrayed the most in like any media
but captain/now lieutenant titus is so epic and cool
Personally I prefer Death guard
i feel like so far i like the grey knights and blood ravens alot, non space marines, i love the battle sisters
ultramarines are based as hell
and anyone who thinks otherwise is usually just salty their random ass little known passing mention in someone else's book chapter isn't the poster boys of 40k
it's also important to note: most space marines we see on box aren't aren't so much ultramarines as they are marines that are blue
blue marines
vs
actual ultramarines
Know the difference
what do you mean by that? in the image are ultramarines, so what does actual ultramarines mean in this case?
those are marines that are blue
Hell yeah my pops built me a paint shelf!
theres a difference
that looks awesome dude
they're painted up blue for the picture, and are given sporadic ultramarine paraphernalia, because they need to be painted for the picture
now this, this is a true son of mccragge
Last night I mentioned my paints clog up my workstation. today, paint shelf
These fine gentlemen are the ones who will personally and singularly shove their power fists up lorgars ass in revenge for calth
Finished these tonight
Thanks š«
these are properly rad
like did all of them just today? or was it a long project
it takes me a hot minute to finish one mini, but i've also been slacking on it
Thanks and took me probably 30 hours total maybe more. I'm a slow painter. Been working on them for 3-5 hours most nights the past week.
also
i've always liked the wh40k universe but only just started really looking at the lore and all the different chapters/armies of the races
i thought painting the minis looked fun because i like how the newer versions are starting to become more realistic proportion wise, so i started like a few weeks ago
playing tabletop doesn't really interest me, but i like painting and assembling
rad
Tabletop is a lot of fun and I would highly reccomend
Gw's definitely honed in their modeling skills as of late, and I am loving what they're putting out
yeah the primaris marines are a huge step forward in the quality/look of their minis, i love them
i really hope henry cavill does warhammer right, and that space marine 2 takes off so the universe gets alot more traction with people
agreeable
as much as I love darktide
I hope SM 2 doesn't turn out as unfinished and unpolished as it
saber is a much larger studio who also isn't owned by tencent so i can only hope
but who knows with how games are put out lately
i love darktide but they really dropped the ball post launch
yeah
Lower shelf, I keep the whites, grays, blacks and Metallica grouped
My Combat Patrol is complete!
Nice!
Kasr kin, or as I like to call them Fortress Fam
Knights be like "I am the patrol", meanwhile I'm building 46 minis for my nids haha
so clean, they look amazing dude
Love a bit of contemptor
Krieg kill team is nearly done! Just waiting my order now
I can feel his contempt
Gonna paint my first mini next week (no joke)
Where I can look at the colors that I need to buy to properly paint the mini?
I bought an Ultra marine and a Space Marine from the Iron Fists
Progress report on the knight
BROTHER I AM BLIND HERE
Ordered some Primaris intercessor sprues and realized it doesn't come with instructions, does anyone have a manual scan they could send me?
Or just pictures of the manual even
yeah pretty much any warhammer instructions can be found with a bit of googling
to be quite honest i actually hate this. the current legion specific contemptors are super cool, and to see them cut up into separate parts really sucks.
True, but plastic resin
they're still resin
Aww shame
Ah well
Thatās easier to attach to a dread actually
Iām wanting to grab the dark angels one to use as a chaplain dreadnought
Looking at that emperors children for my Rylanor modelā¦
Amen to that
last one priced me out of buying models, this one removes all notion of future purchases
It's like buying gas, I don't pay attention to gas prices, fuck am I gonna go not get gas?
any price increases also tend to cut my commissions by a lot
last one I saw a 50% decrease in sales
You know that you can buy from external sites right?
Yes, all my money comes from commissions dude

when the prices go up, my commissions fall
I aināt gonna argue the cost itās my only hobby š
I will since my primary source of income in from commissions because the US had shit labor laws
and I'm an apprentice so i dont get paid for work
Wargaming and gaming are my only hobbies
Shit can get expensive but I mainly do wargaming to help with stress from work
Painting is relaxing af!
Same! Gimme the small plastic men
Starter kit nearly arrived to my gf
What kit is that?
She wanted to try out necrons
The very small starter kit, she would murder me if I got her anything big and expensive
Oooh necrons are actually something Iāve been really wanting to try lately š
But I donāt want to start another army āyetā
Necrons weāre my first ever models. Good place to start
Moved into custodes and now imperial guard/space marines
Got some Tau that are a get done when I want project
I have 2 baneblades for the guard

Iāve got a lot of chimeras and infantry coming
Building a infantry focused army
I like the idea
Field guns for support
Chimeras are alarmingly dangerous if youāre not careful
Got 3ā¦
Those multi lasers donāt play around
And 1 leman russ for the fire power
That thing is gonna be designed to slap armoured targets to next week!
I need some transports/tanks for my smurfs and black legion, but i dread thinking about painting tanks due to preferring to paint small details
My guard are quite old and not in the best state. So Iāve given them a break and plan to start fresh in the future
I have lots of infantry and a few tanks so I need to resort my army basically
Question but do you like the idea of an army that is focused only on infantry?
Rose do you remember my battle scribe list I wrote a while back?
Noooo
I love the idea of just having endless hordes of lil guys to yeet at the enemy frontlines, but i also wont ever do it because painting them all is hell
Imperial guard list
Youāll have to find it for me
Remaking it, itās called URRRAAAHHH
I may vaguely recall it
Literally 12 squads of 20 conscripts
Yep itās coming back to me now
I think I have a picture of my entire guard force somewhere
All unpainted as this was before I started doing that
Think about rocking up to Warhammer world ready for a game
And boom, youāre fighting the WW1 Russian tactics
Not wrong
Imagine playing vs a CSM force focusing mostly on cultists/accursed cultists... Just endless waves of accursed cultists charging in at you, and every squad you dont 100% kill in a turn just raises up and continues charging in
1v1 my Russian empire army vs that horde!
š
See who dies of boredom first!
wonder how fucking much cultists that would end up being to make a 2k army list
deployment alone would take hours
Get battle scribe
It forces you to make game legal armies soo you can probably make one!
When we get rough rider, that will be the day I will bring hell upon Warhammer world!
awww
arks of omen detachment has limit on amount of cultist you can do
accursed cultists it is š
How many you got so far?
Doesnt really matter tho, i would forfeit the match before i went vs 30 mutants + 18 torments
Oh good god
Squads or models?
oh wait... riiiight! I can have more cultists, its capped by the amount of other troops you have
So if i just make the army 50% legionaires 50% cultists, we gucci
models
Because that isnāt that many, I think I had about 240 models with just infantry alone
Itās ridiculous how many infantry there are
Total tally for a 1983points would be:
HQ: Dark apostle
6x Accursed cultists (10mutants, 6 torments each)
6x Legionaires (sergeant + 4 legionaires each)
1x Possessed (9possessed + champion)
1x Possessed (5possessed + champion)
I would not want to face that in a close quarters
Especially since every single cultist gang would just keep reviving dudes if you didnt completely kill it
Accursed cultists is such a fucking bullshit unit IMO
The abilities make it just plain "fuck you"
3 mutants or 1 torment just comes back alive every command phase, enemies within 6" have -1 leadership, they themselfs ignore morale tests and last but not least, each time you take dmg you roll a d6 and on a 6 you dont take dmg š
Ye, the rule requiring at least same amount of other troops kinda fucks with the idea
At some point though you just look at the opponent's army, let them deploy first, compliment them on their effort in painting, and concede the game.
But considering you have 96 reviving dudes that go fucky wacky with anything in melee kinda sounds annoying to deal with
Just need a unit cannon to yeet them across the board first
Or half of them gonna get decimated on their way to effective range
I want a chaos knight to use as an agent of chaos... but I don't know which
the big one
Tyrant?
Yeah the tyrant. Pretty points heavy
Probably good with World Eaters. But for Iron Warriors Ć am wondering either ranpager or despoiler
Like double gun despoiler sounds fun
@rare hornet WAAAGH
a boi
I havenāt done his axe or boots yet
Oooo yes, I do love the new boyz boss but kinda a shame the kit has to be a mix of shootas and choppas
Thereās also a rocket launcher in there, but what can you expect from a bunch of boyz
Do you have any advice on getting some good metal colors?
Like this.
iron warriors silver
watching a tutorial where someone used a contrast as a base coat and then layer paint over it, when he applied the contrast paint it looked uniform and not splotchy, i did not get the same result, was i simply not using enough ?
aint gunmetal pretty much ledbelcher?
Oh then in that case gunmetal grey
Kk
does anyone know any third party bits or stl that would help me convert the new guard models into voidsmen
These more upgraded contemptor kits are cool, they're the same as the older ones but eh oh well
I bet some of the older kits are getting well old
eh its cheaper then the original so i dont mind, i thin k a little greenstuff would be needed to make the arms and legs match better if you feel like you need that
They definitely will be cheaper, since it's just the torsos and not the shoulders and legs
But getting the recasted EC dread it felt kinda wonky idk why but it did
Plus they realize people don't wanna pay way more for a dread that's fully meh, upgrade kits are cooler you can use transfers and such
yeah lol
still i wish they sold thea rms and legs seperate as an option for people (like me)
Yeah it's not an intense amount of detail being lost, like at most the EC legs had those lil bolts and a III
They'll definitely keep the upgrades for stuff like the space wolves contemptor because the design is the torso and shoulder that deal
Finally
ignore hobby paints, get either A) lascaux studio bronze or B) Turner metallic acrylic gouache. The second option is cheaper and easier to find. Its a metallic water color with an acrylic binder so it acts like an acrylic paint, however acrylic gouaches have higher pigmentation in them because they have a different binder compared to normal acrylics. Option A however is the best for true metal because it is actual metal
also fun fact, matte paints have naturally less pigment in them because the matte agent takes up space for the binder adhesion properties
its because that person had brush control and you dont. Tutorials rarely work the way people think they do because they require having muscle memory built up previously. Just practice more and you'll get the same result
Tempted to give lore to my praetor that he was mentored by rylanor but that may be too dumb
I canāt wait for the rest of the contemptors, and they better do upgrade torsos next
Rerelease all the upgrade torsos to be casted better
Last steps before varnishing
Horus Loopercle looks beautiful
Appreciate it!
Horus luperā¦loopeā¦loo⦠the heresy man himself
absolutely professional

damn can you take some close ups of the details on horus? that paintjob is insane
i aspire to get to that type of skill level lmao
It just takes about 300 painted minis!
i'm working on my third now, 297 left
keep up the good work
What are these zany dude called? o.o
are they poxwalkers? i dont know the set so i might be way off lmao
Gellerpox right
CSM side troops just look too cool
gellerpox, accursed cultist etc all look so damn different from everything else
poxwalker yeah
Those might actually POP out quite abit if you just go kinda heavy handed with lighter highlights
two thin coats
plus they are kinda similar
Green bronze and the bone will look different on my Chaos marines
Ye but those guys have so much small details that you can use them to contrast on the main colors. All the little "wounds" and other bits on their flesh can be painted to pop out quite a bit also so much texture that is easy to highlight with lighter colors
first time painting lol so doing basic stuff
Best time to just yolo it and experiment with stupid ideas. Best way to find hidden techniques that you can deploy in the future
100 coats of leadbelcher?
to shreds you say?
Why stop there? 100 coats of leadbelcher with 1 layer of retributor armor between each coat!
Do it more complex... the said thing but every part clean with another color
Hmmm wonder if you could mix astrogranite with some metallic color and use it as a "rocky metal" armor
Stick a nice, fat green Christmas light to the end
Thatās quite a nice colour you got on them.
Mech standard grey then just guiliman flesh for body, skeltron horde bones and rags, Basilicanum grey for silver/pants black templar for pouches
guilliman flesh is such a fucking god tier contrast whenever you want to paint skin
Yeah Iām gonna head to a store tomorrow and try get some decent flesh colours. Iāve been doing to many plague bearer flesh contrast walkers hehe need more variety š¤£
FUcking GW forgot my green
so hopefully its coming in the package im getting TM
since I orded some gaunts ghosts and a pot of the mech grey
so maybe ill get it in t hat
Finger crossed š¤
green kinda important to DG
When doing the first highlight do I want to do a chunkier line then for my 2nd color do the tiniest line I can?
I have alot of trouble highlighting
Like I have no idea how to highlight this good
You can find some tutorials online, but teh real answer is just practice, everyone highlights a bit differently
Like
I don't highlight the way your supposed too
For my BA i run a mephiston red undercoat, followed by a white scar edge, and then finally a blood angels red overcoat
has he called anyone horus
Not yet, though that EC at his feat was trying the waters
How do you feel about drybrushing
keep in mind that the GW studio style isn't the only or even the best looking way to paint
its up to you, eavy metal however will require a lot more than just 2 edge highlights on the same part
Meant to ask. How do the scratches on the blood angel look? Tried to go for a bare metal look this time
