Which printers are they and how long does it take to print a space marine sized mini?

They arent for miniatures, these are plastic printers

You could technically but the detail on the lining would be hard to get rid of

They are both ender 3 v2 neos

If you want to print minis i recommend getting a resin printer

Resin printers are great, but be aware that it is a hobby atop of a hobby. It is time consuming, messy, potentialy dangerous and sometimes frustrating to deal with. Not a good thing to buy on an impulse. Do your research. With todays resin printers, you can get a tabletop sized mini in about 4-6 hours of pure printing time, excluding the prep, clean up and curing.

@hoary ermine You mean the horizontal lines that the printer makes on parts? I remember the ultimaker printers made those visible lines at the uni I studied at.

@atomic rose Yeah, just curious what the quality is up to these days. Most I dabble in is silicone moulds and filling them with 2 part resin or latex resin or sprue goo.

The quality is quite good actualy. 8k is slowly becoming a standard and even 4k printers can get you really good results. The printing lines are still visible, but for me they are no issue, since you really need to get close to notice them. If they do bother you, you can get them off with a sanding stick and a bit of time fairly easily.

Most of the minis I paint these days are printed on my AnyCubic Photon Mono, which is 4k resolution and they are just fine.

also technically the time will always be the same if the height is the same

so you can make 10 minis in the same time as 1

That's pretty affordable actually, much more so than when I checked the prices 5 or 10 years ago. I do get your point though, it's a separate niche to dive into, like green stuff sculpting and mould making for duplicates. I recently found out that currently without a vacuum chamber I can't replicate lightning claws for CSM because the resin is too viscous to flow into the blade parts of the 1 part mould, so I either need to make a 2 part mould, or try with a vacuum chamber (which I don't want to invest in yet).

Good thing to mention is that it's not as cheap as people often claim. It's true the raw materials cost pennies per mini, but unless you make them yourself, the files can cost you quite a bit. You of course get the benefit of being able to make the same figure for pennies at a time how many times you want, but from I gather, you do not really want 100 pieces of the same poxwalker in your army and people appreciate variety.

And if you are like me and participate in the hobby only for the painting part and print one piece of a mini per file... Thanks god for free sample files.

good clean and you can fix it with hairwax if its not ruined just wash it out again when you need to use the brush

In all seriousness, if it comes with some form of cap, which is fairly common always make sure it stays in it after use, aside from that it’s basically just ensuring you clean it thoroughly

Keeping the tip on the brush is a matter of prevention, rather than fixing. Avoid getting the paint in the ferrule, wash it often, wash it thoroughly not only when you're done painting for the day but like once an hour or so, avoid pushing the bristles and like milions other things.

dont get paint past halfway of the bristles, if it gets into the lower part and dries it causes the tip to split

yeah, honestly, your good detail brushes you want to just keep for the more precise points, a sort of precise brush for basecoats, but your really precise brushes, you need to really treasure, lock them in a chest kind of treasure and bury them so no one can find them, make a map and the whole 9 yards

Get a brush soap, dont push it bash the hairs in the cup of water, dont stipple, apply washes or glazes or inks, dont drybrush and asap as color dries while painting rinse in water. If its a natural hair brush dont use it for metalic paints. Store it upright and keep the cap on

Also just a random advice I tried latley. Use watersoulable oil paint for stuff. Water it down, apply it and then remove the excess with cotton swabs. Its like reverse drybrushing, very nice for creating shadows and grime with good transitions

Actually primer does not help the paint stick at all, If you want proof on this I have a lot of it. In fact primer doesn't do anything except give you a unified base color

Real primers you do not want, They have a lot of chemical solvent in them that cause them to melt the top layers of plastic so the paint will bond into the plastic, the types of primers hobby painters use are literally just matte spray paint that have an overwhelming amount of chalk and/or kaolin in them

priming does help paint adhere to the model though, yes a unified base coat is also the other primary effect hence why you have different colours of primer, but it still does both, and in my experience it does massively make a difference

What I do is start with the yellow base, then when it’s completely dry I get like a 6H pencil (because it’s easier to draw faint lines with) and use that to make the outlines of the hazard stripes

Then it’s just a case of using a fine brush to paint between the lines, then after that I just clean up the edges

Also it’s important to remember, the hazard stripes are in lore painted by the marines themselves. So a little bit of inconsistency is fine. You don’t need to be a perfectionist

I tried pencils on paint before, only ended up tearing the paint layer. What's your technique for doing it?

So wait for the paint to be dry (obviously) but you want to use a 6H ideally as the pencil is harder and you can use a much lighter hand for it

Another important thing is ensure that the base layer is smooth as possible, Andy bumps will catch the pencil and lead to the tears

Their whole schtick was that they were somehow cut off entirely from the Imperium by the Tau (probably a colony set up there before the whole Warp Storm malarkey that let the Tau even survive happened) and despite being beset by the Xenos for millenia, they're still fighting, holding on despite having fuck-all resources to work with (not even a Forge or Hive world to call their own).

But looking at the maps the only way that could even happen without the Imperium ever not noticing them is if they were like, right fucking next to T'au or something

And since their tech base is effectively sod-bugger-and-all, they started taking some heavy liberties with the whole 'Thou Shalt Not Sully Thy Hands With Xenos Dreck' thing, since they got to the point where Lasguns were being reserved for elite soldiers

Coincidentally, they also have a fucking MASSIVE Xenarite presence on their worlds with what few Tech Priests they had in the first place, so the main saving grace I do have is maybe they're doing the same fuckery with that one little system as they are doing with Stygies

If you want to be lazy just use a red primer and you’ve pretty much got it done already, a black primer will make a darker colour of the paint you put on top

As for technique what you need to do is spray in a well ventilated area or outside. You want to keep the can a good distance away (approx 20cm) and spray is short sweeping motions

Just make it so they were stuck in between the two latest expansions in the less populated stars or something. The 4th expansion is ongoing at the moment as well afaik

Make sure you do not touch the model at all until it’s fully dry, and I would suggest before and after each use hold the can upside down and do a quick spray on some unused card, this will keep the nozzle from clogging

I would highly recommend doing some practice on something you don’t mind spraying. Let that dry and see how it looks, because then you don’t accidentally ruin your minis if it goes wrong

Power axe is a nice in between of the power sword and power mace, +2 S, and -2 AP

Though with the rarity of the power axe, I may go with power swords...

Surprisingly, I haven't found a space wolf kit that has more than 1 axe in the box, sanguinary guard come out with more than that. Yeah, you're better off with ebay or a xenos weapon (necron kit)

Just matte black, I usually use gunmetal to drybrush but it tends to send metallic specks everywhere

Honestly if your looking for matte black just use that, matte black paint. Though try to go a little lighter than black like a dark dark grey so you can still shade in the recesses with the original base matte black color.
