wow stupid bot
no need to buy uber expensive paints
i nearly bought a dreadnought today for 50€ but that would have been all my money
this hobby is way too expensive
it is but a friend of mine does own a 3d printer :3
I have a closest full of high end scale models, it costed 1/3 less than a drawer full of 40k stuff I have
its called a guide hair
you can cut it off, ignore it, or use it for fine detail
there isnt much of a point for to them for most people
Well you sort of are, although kill team has been very easy to tweak and me and some friends have made a home brew terminator team
@plush swift How would you go about mixing vibrant neon hot bubblegum pink? I experimentes with my reds and blues and purples and could not really get it quite right.
like 90s bubblegum pink or brighter?
The cyberpunk neon pink. The pinkest pink imaginable.
its just a 200 point system restriction right?
afaik there are certain teams that are statted and everything else is off the table
how long do you want it to last? The brightest is a fugitive, the longest lasting is
the brightest you can get a good 6 months of brightness out of it before it starts to fade in theory
it can be a lot less, it can be a lot more, its all about how you store them
Something like this
@plush swift I don't exactly need it now, since the mini I wanted it for is done now. I am just curious how to make it next time.
like this?
Yeah, that would be it.
thats PR122 quinacridone magenta with a mineral extender
Its fairly transparent keep in mind
Current kill team has set team rosters, there is no point limits
takes a bit of time to get your head around but I would say that the new system for kill team is better
Is there a way to get something similar with readily available paints?
makes it a lot easier to just pick up and play, for sure
yes, very easily actually. Look for either quinacridone magenta, quinacridone rose, or quinacridone pink. Ideally PR122, not PV19. But PV19 can work in a pinch
Also found a way to make it into a sort of XCOM themed version of players vs game style
stealing ideas from chaosgate such as the warpgate system etc
Is there any other way to get the necron parts that are supposed to be painted with Tesseract glow a little bit darker ? Like for example dark green ? I tried Warpstone glow but I think i am am missing something for the centre part, to make it really glow.
you'll need yellow, red, white, and a good base green
mix a small bit of red in with the green to darken it
work up from there
Is it good as a primer?
With a sharp knife
i managed to remove the spots that prevented the clean fit
they are a lot more flush now
Starting to get happy with bobs wings
My counts as macharius is built
I was gonna buy myself a Mortarion
But I think I get more on my moneys worth if I bought terrain
that blue reminds me of the old legions of power toys
something like this
bullgryn wip
Thank you
Sweet kratos, I'm thinking of magnetizing mine
@neat quartz i see what’re you’re talking about. Also this ain’t mine, shout-out to another night lords fan enjoyer @weary nexus
Did I hear Night Lords?
Thats all i have ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I love them.
Thank you, you are realy good at painting.
Also. That model is supposed to be a 2 for one thing with this. My very own symbiotic daemon prince.
The garlic powder mini holder
May try my Kikkomann Soy Sauce holder 😂
Props to you, this is one of the smartest random house hold item handle ive seen
My current army project, Captain has been done for a while, moving onto the 10 man assault squad next 🙂
i was making some tomato sauce yesterday and found the shape of the spices are the same of the citadel mini holders
Knights Of Blood?
Angels Sanguine
Well now we know where GW ripped off the shape from, I wonder if they will dmca them
pay me in Astra Militarum kits
40k minis are a lot smaller than i had imagined them
my shakey hands are too affraid to start painting dawg
I mean my painting handle is literally a bottle of vape juice and some blue tac
Decent grip on the thing and it can have like a 40mm base fit perfectly
the double tape is quite secure too
I get paranoid about the tape on the base giving me issues with paint adhesion after it's come off
No wait, brainfart ignore that statement
I see what you mean
I don't even use a painting handle. If it's really small (like heads), I just pin it with a paperclip.
my paint handle is my adhd meds so I always know where they are
they arent needed, they can help with getting a more stable grip or not putting your hand on the mini which will cause damage to the paint so they have benefits, but they can also cause problems sometimes
I just hold the model with my bare hands
That's genuinely really smart
I also make sure to keep 5 bottles with only a few pills in each drawer just in case. I have to make sure my work flow is steady because well, I'm effectively a gig worker
Yeah I get it, it just seemed like a genuinely good idea to keep track of meds
I can see that being an issue
Side note, I was thinking about printing some necrons and basically just masking off the guns and like, capes etc and spray painting them with this
400ml pack size. Fast-drying Indoor and outdoor use Excellent coverage, hiding and colour retention For a superior paint finish, we recommend attaching a spray trigger from our shop This Concrete matt spray paint from the Natural effects range by Rust-Oleum has been specially designed to give a s...
D'you guys think it'd look crap or an interesting concept sort of, stone necrons
that stuff is generally pretty gritty, so if its what youre after, then it should work
I'm imagining it'd give them a really simple to do "Made of stone" effect
it might, i havent tried it before on anything but a canvas
I'd say worth a test but expect it to not work well
A bit of xenos to balance! Getting back to the hobby after a long pause
Aw... was gonna thank Rosehip for recommending storm of iron but they seem to be no longer here. Need to find a new iron warrior buddy
Looking for 1 or more Iron Warrior battle buddy to be bitter with
Storm of Iron is great though. I am 2 hours in and I'm already bitter (hooked).
@rare hornet
Well I’m sure you’re in for a surprise there
You imply I ever left
Good to see you not actually leaving but evolving because you found the strength and certainty of steel
From iron cometh strength
From Strength cometh will
From Will cometh Faith
From Faith, cometh Honour.
From Honour cometh Iron
Pretty much
Or you loop it back to the start and really put off your opponent during a game
I enjoy doing stuff like that honestly
annoys the shit out of my secondary play group since they are all loyalists
(also complain because im an iron hands fan)
Loyalists are so much fun to wind up at times
Ooh new name and art
Exactly
Did you commission this? because it looks awesome
Nope, just searched up iron warrior terminators
Admittedly this was also one
Mmm phosphex
I should have done that
i drew mine
and now everything thinks its AI art when i drew it 7 years ago, makes use of a lot of genuine sepia
Feels bad man
Ehh, knew it would happen. AI art has been a thing for almost a decade, it just got useable in the past year
Painted gargoyles?
Man, you're a hero !
Awesome but don't eat me
Buy yeah I was asking because my dnd group is going to give our DM a break and I'll be stepping in with dark heresy. Wanna do a custom Iron Warriors warpsmith/lord discordant as the BBEG @rare hornet
yeah kinda.
I already have the look set in my mind. Slight doc oc vibes with 2 of the mechatendrils being like snakes that talk to him (small daemon engines)
but as i have been primarilly world eaters and just newly found my love for the bitter boys i am still trying to figure out the perosonality of an Iron Warrior... beyond brutally practical
A route you could go is base him of forrix from storm of Iron
Perhaps keep him cold and calm in voice to begin with, as his minions attack the players, but as they win then make a point of him becoming ever so slightly agitated in how his face looks
Some old stuff and new work
Then instead of fighting the players he turns an leaves instead. Forcing the players to come to him and perhaps have to deal with various more powerful minions etc
ok i like that idea
Whoever made number 11 in the cadia stands box is an asshole
I weirdly appreciate that there's a bunch of us that really like Iron warriors
It's usually kind of a niche faction
Also, I really appreciate that Darktide has some specials that kind of scream "WE ARE IRON WARRIORS" at me with the plate metal and hazard stripes
You're gonna like my knights probably if thats the case, I just need free time
I like iron warriors for their aesthetics, I like iron hands because skitarii marines.
I really dont care about their lore that much
What's not to like about the legion that actually got stuff done while Horus was doing... whatever it was Horus was doing
something something lorgar did nothing wrong or something
I think Lorgar was too busy running away from Corax
I thought corax was too busy getting white paint wrong
Guy can multitask
Someone once said to me "Perturabo is essentially dorn if he was abused as a child"
And I'm just like
"You're not wrong but You're not right"
intimately satisfying the big four gods of chaos on a theoretical... maybe once on a practical level? Because thats just about the only thing horus got done
You misspelled "Being a disappointment to everyone around him"
finnally found the lorgar running from corax meme
....

its up there though
iron within

happy with some decent looking shows
Rose is collix
my very first mini
good looking blueberry
@left egret Perhaps what you could do is have the two daemon engines be like an angel and devil combo? One always speaks reason and logic and is only somewhat murderous, the other is just murderous
yeah buddy thats the idea
Then he also has big one that acts as his mount and pet. Ironically named snuggles.... it has a barbed prehensile tail.
Perhaps base the design off that as a smaller maulerfield perhaps rather than the discolord's mount?
In the short stories I have made, I've always tried to make marines seem like people rather than 2D must kill enemy kind of characters
was thinking canine in looks so that would fit nicely
maybe feline
But yeah basically one of the ideas was that his guys has a crazy affinity for daemon engines and treats them as you would your pets. Like casually petting a venom crawler and things like that. Things that should get his arm ripped off but for some unnerving reason these monstosities would behave like affectionate pets around him.
And that should frighten the players
... of course i am not going to have them fight daemon engines 24/7 that would be ridiculous
best thing to do is have them fight 1 daemon engine during their first encounter with him
Set it down that what he commands is very powerful
yeah pretty much this
probably going to be a smaller homebrewed d.e. but it should get the point across nicely. He takes the big ones with him because he has other things that need demolishing, leaving behind what he thinks would be something that should be able deal with them fairly easily (in his opinion)
In the end he'll face the player himself after learning that he shouldn't underestimate them
A certain plasma pistol and thunder hammer combination would probably do the trick
And if you really want to pull the rug out from under the players feet, he has a micro teleporter to allow him to escape if he's low enough on health. Meaning he's been defeated, but for how long?
🤔 thats a solid ide
Keeps the idea of a villain who could turn up again in other campaigns?
I've made some progress
I'm not happy with the eyes but I couldn't manage to mix the right shade of blue for them
I guess I'll just buy it and redo the eyes later
All in all it's looking good
I just gotta prime and paint the shoulderpads before gluing them on and then the model is finished :D
The ultimate move as an IW player is to offer your opponent the chance to surrender before either of you deploy and models, if they say yes (Even as a joke) you pack your army away and leave.
That sounds like me
the correct shade of blue actually comes from a green pigment weirdly enough.
that blue is actually a green that's been heavily thinned down with titanium white
Human beings see in the red blue and green spectrum so it's not entirely surprising. Sadly I don't really have a decent green base color to mix with my blue :(
Humans see RGB, paints are CMYK, basic color theory is RYB, so it gets really confusing really quickly. The good greens only can be found in professional grade paints btw
Woah
That's a lot of letters
Yes
Color theory is a very complex subject that uses a ton of letters and is very awful
I sure hope nobody brings numbers into it too-
FUCK
Pigment indexes are letters and numbers
oh that would be a fun podcast episode to record... the theory of pigment evolution in the 40k universe
One of the many I have painted and made a home made base as well
2 traitors and 1 loyalist ogryn for my friends in Carlisle
Left to right
Kreig Ogryn ( somewhat lore unfriendly ) khorne Ogryn and Tzeech Ogryn
Also. So my aunt am her family gave my Ghazghkull mag uruk thraka as a Christmas present because they didn't know what faction I play.
Wrong faction, but I am fine with it. The prophet of gork and mork is awesome
Bit poor picture but eh
how do i start building an adeptus custodes army? what is good? what is not? any suggestions
Their army start pack is pretty well rounded what ive heard
If you are willng to invest
combat patrol is nice if you dont find the battleforce
a lot of the things outside of the patrol and battleforces boxes you need are all forge world, which can be a problem
Debating making an army of Renegade/Traitor Primaris but idk
A few irks I have is that they aren't incredibly versatile and don't really have too many options to make them look very traitory besides a paint job unless I figure out how to use Greenstuff to a competent level, and on the other hand their HQs look like they would be super difficult to strip of imperial iconography
What does appeal though is that they have smaller model counts which makes running them as a lore accurate traitor force more ideal because I could have a small force of elite super soldiers backed by the triator guard I'll be kitbashing after I get my hands on the Cadia Stands box my local GW put on hold for me
As far as their homebrew goes it's basically a mixup of the prejudice of the firstborn marines coupled with the Primaris strive to prove themselves as a shining example leading them to be a little too perfect and gaining the eye of a certain pink and purple clad God.
Probably doesn't help that despite being Blood Angel successors (officially) oddly their hair is more of a platinum colour than blonde and they have never seemed to fall to the black rage once, curious.
imagine being beat by that army in your local store
its like a medal
I wanna see the Hello kitty chapter fight the angry marines
lol
All assembled. Just gotta paint em now. But I’m scared to
thought it was going to be worse
I'm probably too proud of this
I feel like I went overboard with dirtying it up though
WIP, not the best at painting, but trying to finish up some Praetorian Bullgryns. Also I feel like it's not bad for my first time painting after a few years
Brits when you call it soccer
If youre going that far you might as well just print the full army at that point
I think you did a great job
Really?
Yeah I love the blood splatters on the front looks sick as hell
The dirt and general grime just looks good
You painted a cool as hell mini
Thank you. Funnily enough it's my first dreadnought too
Slaaneshy alpha legionares
Got my hands on my Cadia Stands box
Now I just need about 3 Blooded killteam kits and I'll be able to bring these brave men and women of the Imperium into the folds of chaos
Then it's to the bitzbarn for some misc necromunda stuff like mohawked heads and whatnot, a glam rock paint job and they will be proper followers of Our Lady in Pink
😈
Long long time ago one of my first Minis
Choose your character
Whippy boy got tusks
He's khornate what do you expect
horus heresy jetbikes confirmed coming to plastic with this image
Return of the Dickbikes
They haven't been on the FW site for over a week so it's been 100% confirmed
Also hopeful this is a diabolist for the word bearers
my dad works at games workshop and he said thats the new ratling
5 ratlings standing on top of each other
Odd looking ratling
I forgot that I owned the blackstone fortress models and remembered how these guys kinda resemble the scabs in darktide. just something a little neat.
Gnl, I kinda wished we could have the weapon of the fanatic of Blackstone fortress for the zealot in Darktide
very lovely
Just painted my first mini I tried my best 💀💀💀
wondering what people think of my kreiger
Finished my Dark Angel Gravis man
he was a homebrew test with brass armour and green fatigues, but i had the models since they first came out
thanks, took me quite a while to find what works, and doesent look cadian
What’s a good strategy for mixing paints? Whenever I use my palette and try mixing I always have some issues of not enough or too much
By the time I finally get the color I want it dries after me using half of it
I like the base. It looks like he's running through mud
I can now produce 2 Kastellan robots every 3 hours.
file cost me 8€ on sale. material costs for printing are below 1€ a model. Compared to GWs price of 62€ for 2, a Kastellan List finally becomes financially viable.
Dude I printed a daemon prince the other day, a cooler nurglier sculpt than GW
For like
£1.50
what printer do you use?
Mono X 6k
I splurged on a good printer a while back
I feel like 6k is the sweet spot for detailed minis and price
Cost me liiiike
£800~
Which if you think about it, is probably less than one of the 4 2k armies I've printed for pennies since
thank you, i just wish i had moss tuffs to look like their home planet
idk how to do bases
I'm still working on my first ever mini
I think I'm just gonna leave the bases blank for now
easiest way is to understand the properties of the pigments being used, unfortunately hobby paints are designed so you'll get frustrated and buy more of the range
are you using a wet pallet?
yeah, 3rd party sculpts are really picking up the pace, can't wait to build and paint this guy
what file is that?
also the base
Scavenger Detroitex Mk2 from Station Forge. Not sure about the base, I think it's also from Station Forge.
I love the cloth thing on him
Not really? I been trying but either way still not too well
acrylics are very quick drying and hobby paints tend to use things like chalk and kaolin which speed drying times more
Yeah, look a lot ruddier, ideal for a dark mechanicum or just "out in the field" look for your bots
True, I couldnt even mix at one point
I like the idea of an old combat bot left on his own too long and developing a sens of self and sentience
that's the vibe this guy gives me
youre best options is to work quicker or get a sta-wet pallet, home made ones tend to be wonky
with the buddhist prayer beads he gives me the vibe of a Robot that's being worshipped by a primitive culture as some sort of guardian spirit
Yeaaa I was hoping to try and make once since I was told it’s easy to make
that fit's into that vibe too, yeah
reminds me of that one doctor who episode with that vengeful cyborg cowboy who ended up becoming the protector of a town
its a sponge, parchment paper, and a tub, the parchment paper needs to be a low or mid grade with a less waxy texture, problem is parchment is really strange in most countries and they sell wax paper as parchment
I have most of that but I don’t have any parchment paper
yeah thats a pretty crucial part
sta-wets are also dirt cheap and big enough so I just say get one of those
those fancy mini painter marketed ones dont do anything functionally different
I found an army painter one that’s on sale for 16 bucks
thats not the worst price
just make sure its the actual price and not just for the paper
the paper is around that price normally
Nah it’s the entire box
i just used the Games Workshop stirland mud, over the base with a black rim, this was after the model was put on
Literally 90% of people who have a patreon or are known ish on MMF make sculpts that are above and beyond GW
if Cults3d wasn't a horrific website in terms of servers
I'd use it more
cults has gotten better over the years... its still bad though
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1052016437381824593/1057757595605159996/PXL_20221228_201818719.jpg I got me a mini, but not the normal kind
First Khorn deamon 👌🏻
3 more bikers and I’ll have my 2000 pts 😁
I look forward to the moment where losing one model will lose me the game 🤣
Easy to paint at least
my man
One of the last imperial armies I’ve done for this edition, just have to wait for the full guard release and I’ll be good to go for them all 😁
What is that blue mat? And where can I get one?
It’s a cutting mat, helps when I use a scalpel on the mould lines, should be available at your local general hobby shop 🙂
Not GW though, I don’t think they have these
nice one thank you :3
No worries, always happy to help a fellow hobbyist 😁
I'm ready to begin my induction into the Society of Hidden Paint
I love Kairos's model. It's almost enough to bring me over to Chaos
This is frustrating. I cant decide at all what i want to paint my space marines as
First i thought blood ravens, then crimson fists, then white scars and now raven guard
<- going insane
Crimson Fists would be pretty sweet, not many play them.
If only Pedro got updated.
Yea but at the same time im fan of both raven chapters
What about Raptors?
Go deathwatch and just give them the shoulder pads.
Cockpit is looking good after a prime coat. Now that the annoying fiddly bit is out of the way I'm actually excited to paint it
Got some gryph hounds and made them part of my guardsmen regiment.
A gryphon pouncing on you with a chainsword sounds terrifying
heh just wait till the techpriests whips up those chainclaw gauntlets for them
Bullgryn is almost done, I still do not know how to take decent pictures.
Why not homebrew chapter
But the previous suggestion for raptors is based
That a really good job, maybe a bit of edge highlights in the back of the mini? But this a really cool paint you did there!
fuck yea
You mean the only daemon prince

How to remove supports from Resin 3D Prints!
3D Files by @LootStudios
#3DPrinting #UncleJessy #Miniatures
FYI
Anyone who's seen this video
Do not under any circumstances remove supports with a heat gun unless you literally want cancer
Especially if you're going to do it without a mask or a ventilator
and just in some home office
The hot water thing is probably fine
Just DO NOT EVAPORATE WET RESIN AT YOURSELF
YOU WILL LITERALLY GET CANCER AND DIE
(Sorry I'm really pissed off by this guy)
I can just see people seeing this video and it's all
And that was how they all died
Does anyone have any tips for airbrushes?
I got one recently and don’t want to fuck up too badly
Wear a ventilator and gloves (Latex/Vinyl/etc)
Spray from like, 20cm away
Well, not 20 but enough that you're not getting splotches of paints
Before spraying at a model spray on some tissue or something to make sure the flow is appropriate
Gotcha thanks
I'd recommend using it largely to prime miniatures and lay down large base coats of colours initially
So you can get used to how it works, what PSI you want, how much you need to thin paints
and first it's better to overthin than not thin enough because clogging your airbrush is a pain
Oh god yes, If your paint is too thin you can just do more than one coat
if it's too thick you could honestly risk breaking your airbrush
I've killed like 1-2 nozzles with paint that I just could not clear
one of those ultrasonic cleaners might fix that but they're costy
Thanks for the advice y’all
's fine, this is probably one of the less "Full of arsehole" channels on this discord
We chill here, we like models
I’ve posted a couple on here
Youtube was a mistake
Youtube is fine
This guy is trying to kill people
and the comments are praising him
HE'S LITERALLY GOING TO OXIDIZE UNCURED RESIN AND GET CANCER
I'm super mad about this
Yeah you realize how many mini painting youtubers also do this?
I had to deal with one student who poisoned themselve over midwintersminis advice with dirty downs
Oh for
Why can't we have people who don't try and kill their audiences in our community
dirty downs rust is incredibly toxic to the point the fumes can cause long term health damage
its main ingredient is xylene
Isn't xylene the one that basically turns off your CNS
If you inhale the vapors too much
yes
Let's put it in miniature paint
Oh vallejo flow improver is almost pure 2-butoxy-ethonal
which is another incredibly bad thing
There is a reason why I'm so adamant about safety and why I hate youtubers
WON'T GIVE ME TURBO CANCER
waterbased acrylics arent always safe
They're safe enough that a ventilator will stop them causing any real damage
As far as I'm aware, I might just be giving myself paint aids or something
To some extent yes
Natural pigments are where you have to worry, like yellow ochres I legally have to put a lead warning on if I sell the pigment
I dont in a paint
its made from crush earth after all
That seems like a thing you should still have to go "Yo lead based pigments in this paint"
Paint has no real legal regulation
Pretty sure it does here (UK)
the only thing I have to care about is borax and c:mit/mit concentrations for EU sale
tattoo ink, thats another story
thats heavily regulated
Well yeah it goes in people
paint, way less regulation
I still sell manganese blue in europe, and people think its banned
manganese blue just isnt being produced anymore because of reasons, mostly public outcry
I mean they were producing mummy brown until 1960 and they only stopped because the public found out it was made with human corpses after all, so a toxic pigment wont stop a company
First time painting mini, quite a large mini tho tbf
wow photos dont scale well from phone to pc 😅
who is hype for new 40k models coming
The Necrons are coming to Warhammer+ – check out the awesome trailer for the new animation Pariah Nexus! https://bit.ly/3Ib3DzQ
Don't forget to like, share and subscribe and to ring the bell to make sure you keep up to date with all our latest videos!
good job! throw some grout on that base and that's definitely a model to be proud of :)
Thanks, i have a mate whose gonna show me how to wash and do bases effectivley. i am hype to paint more stuffs
I think the best advice that I wish I could have told myself when I started, don't get caught up on one model do your best to what looks best to you at the time then move on. You'll never improve just pushing around the same paint on one model all day
Yes! that why im leeting him show me with this one, and then ive got Iron Golem warcry warband coming next week! I wanted to try washing myself but i think id ruin it with too much crap
litty, what kind of washes are you using?
It's basically an follow from the 9th edition trailer
I actualy have to disagree with this. You can definitely improve by "pushing around the same paint on one model", as long as you do it deliberately and intentionaly. If you want to practice a technique, you can definitely do it by repeating it on the same model over and over, until you build a muscles memory and skill.
He reccomended Leather brown wash to make the white look more aged and to make some edgeing, whatever that means 😅
heh i learned form drawing that when i try to add more to a already finished drawing i ruined it so im happy
Im sure the repation definetley helps, i was told to wash all the paint off asap if i wasnt happy with it at anypoint
That is not needed. As long as you thin your paints correctly, the layers will be thin enough that you do not need to wash it off and just paint over it again.
I had the feeling that pariah nexus was becoming a series the female guardmen from the pariah. Nexus looked the same as in the 9th edition trailer of 40k
suppose that's fair, I guess it's more up to what you're you're looking te get out of the hobby. personally I usually have a goal of painting a bunch of stuff then spend all day painting like one very small dude lol
Same with the sister of battle
in what context? like not happy with a whole models paintjob?
It very much depends on the mindset you go into it with. If your goal is "I want to have a bunch of painted dudes to fight Jimmy with his painted dudes," you are mostly after speed and convenience, rather than actual painting skills. But if you are trying to improve as a painter, deliberate research, focused experimentation and intentionality are the key.
Yeah, i was told it wouldnt look good at the start but if it still looks bad after 3 different colours or a certain amount of time i should probably start again
im happy the brass saved the model for me i wasnt sure till i added it
mini on picture always looks terrible
I always have that moment of a model looking like trash till things start coming together
or at least, shows a way more detailed view of what ur paintjob looks like for real
the ogryn on top is 🫡
lmao, my dad picked it up and i told it to hold it at arms length so it would look better
I find that to be a benefit actualy. It makes it easier to analyze mistakes I've made and what I need to improved in the next one.
definetly
but i can be really discouraging
for a beginner
i went from this:
to this:
in a year
so just dont get demotivated by pictures 🙂
That is true, but if they let it discourage them, they went into it expecting to be good immediately. Which is...naive at best. 🙂
i hope to make that progress
I agree, i googled hellbrute after i finished and im glad i waited till the end
jajaja
lol
Just keep at it. It takes time to get good at something. Research, practice and keep at it. You'll find, that things that took you days only take few hours now.
also reaally good tip is to not compare urself to other mini painters, always compare yourself with - yourself from the past 😉
the good old "pull up 'eavy metal model" then get bummed out
This is my first
godly
This is my most recent
how long did that take
~3 years
airbrush on the second?
3 years for a singel dreadnaught?!
No, that dread took me like a month. 😄 I am 3 years in a hobby.
Nope. Just good ol'glazing.
aint nobody gottta time for that XD
That entire mini took like 5 hours from start to finish.
And I had to do the skin twice. 😅
yeah, i really suck at thinning down basecoats with brush,
so i do base coat and first highlight now with airbrush, then just a little glazing and edge
i am more a wargamer then a painter, but i kinda like to have whole army on a fairly decent standard
airbrush really do be a timesaver
cant put too much time on my 200 guardsmen xD
that's a good bit
dropper bottles are sick
yeah, pots are horrendous personally
Do you want to see the actual first model i "painted"
i am okay with the disrepect i deserve for this monstrosity
14 year old me thinking "yeah i wanna paint this" with absolutley no patientce
well you obviously learned from it, so I'ts not a monstrosity but an important stepping stone on your hobby adventure
Kind words
?? thats not based?
as in, grout or flock
something along those lines
maybe not eh correct phrasing
the*
painted atleast, adds to the model alot
well happy accidents then lol
very nice!
No. I don't and I couldn't. 😅 I am nowhere near good enough and way too lazy.
But I appreciate the compliment.
Im No WHeRe neAR gOOoD enIOuGH
man you lined up that foliage in such a nice way, really draws the eye up the model
ive bought minis pre painted that look a fraction as good as that
did you make the palm tree?
Lol no. I sometimes visit local second hand shops and look for old toys to repurpose. The palm tree was a part of the rubber dino set, that I just chopped down to size.
nice, you gave it a great glow up
nice! really like the mottled look on the horse
Everything on that base is handmade. Would not recommend spinning your own miniature barbed wire. It sucked.
That is some plastic doodat I found whoknowswhere whoknowswhen. I tend to collect weirdly shaped stuff to use for my bases. I have no idea what it was, where I got it and what the purpose is, it just looked like a piece of random clutter. 😅
Do you make diarahmas?
No, never have.
Nah. That is too much effort and too much time. 😅
has a bouncing betty look to it
I did it put it there to be a random piece of debris or a landmine or whatever. There is one of those anti tank/cavalry hedhehogs thingies as well tangled in the wire as well. And a grass tuft on fire.
It begins
Good luck. Cawl is an awful kit to put together and paint. 😅
ooo yeah, definetly a piece that makes the mind run rampant with stories and the like
I love my beep boops but man all those flimsy little wires and shit
The thing I hated the most was the cables that run below the robes - that piece just never fit snuggly enough for me to be comforable glueing it. And then all the goddamn arms
One thing you learn in art theory and its very important to keep in mind. There is no good art, good requires an opinion and a discussion of philosophy to define. There are only varying degrees of bad
I definitely consider myself bad. 😅
doesn't everyone tho?
No
ah damn
Technically i guess? Still if i hate ill probs get rid of it lmao
Eye of the beholder ect
It's the smash brothers conundrum all over again. You beat your friends, maybe some colleagues and think "huh, I might be good at smash brothers." And then you go online and you immediately think "Oh, I am not good at smash brothers. I am actualy very bad at smash brothers. I might be the worst at smash brothers." 😅
man fighting games have that feeling so bad
for honor makes me feel like that
It's the same with minis.
a lot of mini painters think they are good because everyone tells them they are, but in terms of skills its a lot of untrained, education only following the current zeitgeist, etc people saying something looks good when they are only judging on A) paint thinness B) colors C) flashiness
Its why i never comment on peoples work unless they ask me to, because I'm one of the idiots who got a doctorate in art. Rather not ruin the journey as thats the most important thing for art
Just finished up my first ever painting of minis
good job! very clean, like the variation of blues on the shields
Storm cast, very sexy
fantasy space marines do be hittin tho
I do like me some sigmarines.
I was feeling far too anxious to start painting my Ad Mech units without any painting experience
So i spent all day just practicing on these two boys
It was a lot more fiddly than i imagined it would be
you can always strip the paint off later
Just be carefull with what you strip them. Destroyed my first Gotrek that way 😅
most of the practice comes from learning muscle memory, which is why online guides tend to be not so great
Yeah i noticed i have a lot more brush control now vs. this morning when i started
seems like a day spent well, you learned and have some awesome looking models :)
its quick to learn, hard to master. i'm at over 30,000 hours and I still have issues doing some things
still cant draw faces too well, but then again I was never an impressionist
always experimental
human faces terrify me
Faces suck. Every little mistake makes them look wrong.
that's why I have skelly bois and ad mech lol
They arent hard persay, skin tones are really easy to learn to mix too
faces just require perspective training, which I have never needed to do since I mostly do experimental and abstract
They are difficult, because our brain is hardwired to look at them and then analyze and interpret them. Meaning that every little thing wrong makes them look weird. Maybe the pupils are not aligned exactly. Or the whites are too thick and circular. And milions of other little things...
I swear my Gotrek looks he's getting kicked in the balls, rather than standing heroicly.
Just call it avant-garde
this
A lot of named characters do not come with helmet option. 😛
want to know how I paint eyes?
not having helmets on characters makes me upset, maybe it's the military nerd in me
like I get it
joys of freelance art conservation, you get to work anywhere
unfortunately the pay sucks
Oh my fucking god are we ever going to get a KT box that doenst have a human faction in it
I thought art conservation was well paid. But I probably just got that impression from watching too many Baumgartner Restoration vids on YT. Guessing he's at the top of the game with really wealthy clients restoring very rare works.
The current theory is the next kt box is arbities and Drukahri
Thats restoration and he's umm.... he's a problematic case
a lot of backroom stuff goes on that people dont know about
Because of how large that company is, he can control smaller companies into not existing anymore and the quality of his work has come into question over the years too
The company I work(contractor) for is small, and they make around 25mil in sales not profit, and we get thrashed by the large ones all the time, but we also make the products they use so... we have our own niche
Started painting my Red Corsairs Legionaries Kill Team. After 10 years I'm finally back to painting models! How am I doing so far?
not a mini but still look what big boy arrived just now!!
My first ‘kit bash’ - cut the spare helmet off the gear for the dude on the right tonuse on the dude on the left
Because helmets are cooler
Helmets are way cooler
(And just make sense)
I have a crisp gold from using a dark bronze undercoat, a light layer of el dorado gold on top, with a brownwash finish. Camera doesn't do it justice but the chest and shoulders really give off a nice rich shimmer when I rotate the model in the light
Can I just say, I absolutely hate what phone cameras do to models
Like they look so much better in person, 100% of the time
Especially when you're tryin to take a group photo of yer dudes and half of them are blurry
I’ve actually stopped playing the tabletop and now have started painting minis for fun
Starting small, but I want to work my way up to the Lord Discordant model that’s been taunting me in the box
Right now me and my buds are just painting models and MIGHT play one day
I dont even know the rules to the game I just like dark angels
What is the appeal to tzeentch? All I know about him is he can see all futures but can’t tell which will pass and how everything “is and isn’t”
I’ll have to watch a tzeentch specific lore video, most lore videos will kind of skim over him
That I’ve seen anyways
Decorated some khorne dudes with poxwalker skulls to mess with my nurgle loving boyfriend
He has since said he's gonna use bloodletter skulls on his models now
does this mf really need 6 arms?
god of magic and change
everything is according to his plan but he hates how things are determined so he always change stuff
gives missions to his minions to search for knowledge or magic artifacts
but if everythings goes with his plan he gets bored
so he helps his enemies too , just to have amusement
tzeentch related minis are cool + heavy focused on arcane and burning people souls
yea fateweaver is sick
and twisting peoples flesh and creating horrors beyond mankind
nah thats just tzeentc
fateweaver is different
he can see future and past but he is blind from the present
the major flaw
meant his model, and yea I did read a little about it but didn't know they created horrors and such
like on AoS
tzeentch wants to change the entire realm
and twist people bodies creating horrors beyond compreension
Damn, is he similar in 40k? Always assumed they were the calm boys who just wanted knowledge etc
knowledge is one of the objetives
i need to grab some codex to check current tzeentch status on 40k
i bought the last tzeentch battletome because it sucks to find AoS lore
Im slowly getting into AoS myself, I heard it was bad lore wise so I always shied away, but I recently got a skaven box and a sylvaneth box because they look fun to paint and i loved skaven in Vermintide 2 so ill have to get started on my 2+ tough video grind
the issue with AoS lore
everything is too epic
every conflict is going to end the world and people that can kill gods
im waiting for my box to have tzeentch on 40k too
because the thousand sons turned to be my favorite legion after i read about then
The Games Workshop employee looking on in horror as I buy my 34th bottle of leadbelcher knowing that I am going to drink it in front of him.

sippy sippy
Hey guard players, anyone know if the new squad coming out is a replacement of the current kit or in addition?
Desert Raptors KT so far. idfk why they look so dusty in the photo but they dont look like that to me in person.
Painted these guys today idk I need to learn how to highlight
They're necrons, They look perfectly good enough for tabletop
They're metal coloured and have guns and energy different colours
More than I expect from the average necron player if I'm being honest
Gonna be getting my hands on the new Daemon Prince model, but need some good slave models to decorate the base with since they are gonna be Slaaneshi
Anyone know of any companies that would make models fit for that purpose? I certainly am not using the old Dark Eldar slave models. Ugly.
Depends on your location, some companies are based in the US, some in europe, shipping would play a big role in price.
Artel W has a warehouse in the us
Kromlech and greenstuffworld are eu based, but I doubt they have what you want
depending on how Slaaneshi you are going, a cursory google search lead me to find this ebay vendor https://www.ebay.com/str/manufakturaminiatures?_trksid=p2047675.m145687.l149267
If too lewd for you, this might be a good kit? https://www.ragingheroes.com/products/senshyrha-le-f?srsltid=AeTuncqBve3w7uW5ucd6M-4YIejMO8YBxCeW8lqtJwiTvaVE1pjx5Zf4Ye0&logged_in_customer_id=&lang=ru
I would try scouring etsy first.
should i get the citadel paint set or are there better alternatives?
Citadel and vallejo game color have served me well so far
It depends on accessibility. I can't buy vallejo, AK, Army painter, etc, as easily in a local store, as I can with Citadel paints. Citadel also has a large content library by duncan rhodes and citadel themselves on how to paint with their line, but is also quite pricey per ml.
did duncan end up leaving GW?
Yes, he has his own painting channel now, "Duncan Painting Academy" or something like that
Also, from what I gathered, generally Citadel metallic paints tend to be better but for the other "normal" paints Vallejo should be fine
I bought a big Army Painter set, but I have to say I was quite disappointed. Their paints aren't that good at applying pigments evenly (generally I need three or four coats to have a nice uniform color), so thinning the pain with water makes it even worse
My experience with vallejo ultramarine blue was far superior to that of citadel mcragge blue
Also dropper bottles > pots any day of the week
I would agree with you, except for shade and contrast paints
What do you mean by that?
Depends on the piece really.
Just got my iron golems and I wanna ge them right, do I'm debating taking the extra time to paint the individual model pieces before I assemble them
assemble first
Depends really, there are some models where it’s downright impossible to paint them fully if you assemble them first
It really depends on a lot of things. Like what color primer you are using, the sculpt itself and what standard you want them painted to.
Warcry table top do rly wanna flex to friends
With white and gray primers, leaving anything unpainted is an issue, because it will stick out like a sore thumb. With blacks, it's fine to leave hard to reach ares unpainted, it will just look like a deep shadow. Of course, that is not acceptable, if you are painting to high standard, so you migh want to leave it unassembled even with black primer.
I generaly dry fit my minis first and try to identify problematic areas that are covered before glueing them together. Anything that could cause issues I leave unassembled. You migh also want to divide large minis into smaller chunks - especialy usefull for minis with wings for example, because those get in a way all the time.
Okai, there are alot of shields and flails that wrap around their heads so I'll do separate, cheers
Love me black
I'll do the arms separate as well cuz that just feels rough when they're on the body
Also if you are really trying to flex and especially if there are multiple combinations of weapons/arms, just magnetize that shit
So tempted to go and bulk buy magnets and get rid of the push to fit connections on my kill team in to dark terrain and just magnetize every single attachment point
I order mine from supermagnete, pretty reliable so far (in europe) and they throw in extra magnets each time for some reason.
How rare are fallen armies
I imagine quite rare
Magnets?
Buy student grade fluid acrylic, you get way more, better quality, way cheaper. Hobby paints are the exact same grade but have worse complex pigment mixtures making them very hard to mix and get colors you want
60ml bottles are like $2 normally of them
you're supposed to remove a bunch of the medium at the top of the bottle before shaking according to army painter
(army painter is still bad)
Wait really?
my first cadian
yes, they are student grade, they replace pigmentation with kaolin and chalk for opacity and matte finish
vibrant opaque reds dont really exist naturally unless you want something like cadmium and hobby paints wont use pyrolle since thats too expensive
I know, that's what I do
still annoying
great for terrain painting tho, since it's cheaper
Got any names to throw my way, like brands?
Now paint 100 more
Vallejo is a nice brand I've been using
Dropper bottles hmmm
just buy craft paint at that point, I use craft paint for most of my terrain, and I'm the one here with tubes of oils that cost $15,000+. I really cant tell a huge difference on the terrain honestly
In the US? Dickblick store brand is fine,
no. get a fourth baneblade
magnetize it so they are all of the above
well then you need 20 more baneblades
If I wanted a different variant, I'd buy it.
Hence why I am buying a different variant
I'm the type that would rather buy 4 so i can field 4 of what ever is good for the meta
My store is tournament play only
not wasting $100 to play a game and not come out with something
ive never played in a store, so all my plastic gets used even if its just agreeing on rules for funsies like trading off chainsword for two ranged bolter shots and only being able to use fists for mele on one of my primaris. we named him sgt. Fuckswords. he wilol never see a tournament but my friends love him
yeah my old group did stuff like that until I consistently was board wiping turn one, At one point they said warlord titans were 500 points, forgetting I had 5 of them because they were trying to wipe me off the board
i stopped talking to them after they suggested that spacemarines all had 50 wounds as its lore accurate
jesus
spacemarines are the only faction I didnt have
yeah we arent that extreme
It started out as 2 boltors in place of a chainsword and pistol
loving this paint scheme
dude knights look so fun to play
I
I like them because I hate deployment
ive got a buddy with a broken 3d printed titan im buying from him. gonna turn it into wreckage terrain
I need a 3d printer, diarammahs would be nice to start making
And thank you but it's mostly lighting to hide the horrid mistakes I made on the left lmao
THE BOSNIAN KNIGHT
I made a Veteran Sharpshooter out of the new Cadians.
Next up on the rust train
Mario Kart Double Dash lookin’ ass
that look sick
First Time painting !
Contrast paint looks so punishable ... 😔
Is it possible to save misses ?
Maybe with a small layer of white scar ?
@deft fable compared to yours, my first model looked insanely blotchy with contrasts
Since then I’ve tried wiping a good portion of it off of my brush before painting on but even then I think I prefer base paints and self highlighting
The one I’m doing now is a tad less blotchy I think but I still think base paints are less “punishable”
Rather I feel like I can do more with them and it still look cleaner
I’m going to go back over these with my death guard green when it comes in if that’s possible, militarum didn’t turn out great imo
yeah base paint seems thicker and permissive
Experimenting with a oxidizing rust effect paint and i went over board with it lol
It's very cool though, applies brown, turns orange in some areas within a couple seconds
nurgle gives his grossest paints to his plaguiest marines
Helmet is not big enough
That’s pretty cool. I always just use a touch of the nihi whatever oxide, how did you manage that?
its called Dirty Down Rust
bought it with a set of dry brushes
Still experimenting with it tbh
I like using typhus corrosion and then drybrushing over it to make my rust normally
someone mentions using Dirty Down Rust
Corpse_Starch is typing...
you know me too well
be careful with that, it can cause your central nervous system to shut down, its VERY toxic
Dirty down mentions this in their MSDS, but no hobby company that sells it does
Yeah it's not good to use in enclosed spaces
i drink at least a 350ml can of dirty down rust every morning
Builds up character
Hey guys I’m new to miniatures, where do I start and what do I purchase ?
this is probably the worst place to start asking tbh lmao
Mandatory: light, miniature, hobby knife, clippers, glue, brush, paint, miniature
Optional: wet palette, pinvice, paint handle and like milion other things
step 1 prob be to find out if you have any gamestores near you that you can buy miniatures from
Above all of that: sufficient disposable income. It's not the most expensive hobby in the world, but it is up there.
Does anyone paint Lord of the rings miniatures?
I am sure some people do, but I am yet to see one here.
Personally I bought a Christmas box from games workshop. They can still be found on eBay for usually cheaper actually if the one you want is out of stock.
I got most of my tools from Amazon as citadel ones are quite pricey
No. Not really. Avoid games workshop tools. They are overpriced pieces of shit.
Link ?
This is where the christmas boxes are, although the best ones are sold out now. The one I bought on ebay raised in price to about 250 now so not sure its worth anymore unless it captivates you
I would say first and foremost find out which faction you like the most and look the coolest to you

Bit of a long watch but you can skip over the factions that look dumb to you
mostly space marines are stater friendly
Are their any boxes that come as like a “starter kit” per say with paints and brushes ?
i wil look quick
give me a sec
mostly just a tacital squad like these
and for paint it doesnt mastter
In theory you can just change the colour to different factions ?
yea
if you want a purple or blu marines go for it
each space marine legion has a single color
I legit just wanna build like a big display case with heaps of minis in them, they’re so dope
like imperal fist are like mostly yellow and blood ravens and blood angels are red
and white scars are white
Where did you find this ?
Yeah but it’s in the city
good
go there and look for it if it is not there you can always look online on their site
How do I find colours that match for unpainted minis ? And do I need to purchase a tool and glue to stick the together ?
they have it in their stores
Don't fall under the illusion you need to buy everything from GW. They like the abuse the fact they have borderline monopoly on the hobby and stretch the price.
Yeah that’s why i thought I’d message here, cos they’ll probably try scam me as a new player
i mostly buy 1 model every long whike
and dont waste money on horde factions
like tryanids orks and imperal guard
They definitely will. With the minis, you do not have much choice. There are other companies making them but you may run into problems if you want to play. Everything else you are better off buying elsewhere tho.
Where would you recommend buying the paint and tools for cheaper ?
What’s wrong with horde factions ?
This is what I got on amazon, you can probably find even cheaper somewhere else
they cost alot of money
Fot tools, look for a modelers store. For people building planes and stuff. They'll have everything.
I see
Horde factions are totally fine... as long as you're smart. Buy used from ebay
Just never pay full GW sticker price
its common knowledge that the cost to print the box is more than the actual cost of the miniatures
the plastic alone is only worth pennies
You're paying to offset employee salaries, art team, design, manufacturing costs, etc
and most importantly.... profits for shareholders c:
ah yes plastic crack
For paints...eeehh, ask @plush swift . I like vallejo. The range is vast, quality consistent, price lower and the dropper bottles are a nice bonus. But I am not the one with paint degree here. 😅
Army Painter is much cheaper and if you're a casual painter they will be good enough. If you actually wanna art it up, vallejo or reaper are excellent
I wonder if I should look into an elegoo printer or something. After this death guard and skaven box im honestly just wanting to paint bigger stand alones like great unclean one for example ( although obviously not that model in particular because that would be illegal but)
two thin coats or coat de arms are good brands too
Im paying 150 per standalone whereas with two of those I could justify an entire printer and curing set
Hobby paints are grossly overpriced student grade fluid acrylics
just go to an art store, get some student grade fluid or soft bodied acrylics, 60ml is like $2
they are matte and opaque
my most expensive model i bought was an 120 euro old greater daemon of slaanesh fron gw during christmas of 2019
I know of at least 4 $150 models I would like to have. I'm sure i could get a printer for half of that and find alternative STL files that scratch that model itch I want to paint and save money for something similar
looks at the warlord titans I have sitting in my closet I would never spend that much on some plastic
damn
I don't get why GW doesn't bring back oop mini lines... I spent a grand this year on old metal bretonnians and none of that money went to GW
same with old metal catachans
i never bought a titan
You never bought a titan...yet
no

I'm the near future
My wallet
I always wanted a macroature for a price of a small car.
There is an hobby shop not that far from my mom's house by the mall that sells some warhammer 40k and fantasy and warhammer related models called conquests
Designed to be perfect for new players who've never tried Warhammer 40,000, the Recruit Edition is the ideal way to dip your toes into the thrilling world of battles in the 41st Millennium.Whether you want to try Warhammer 40,000, are looking for the perfect gift for a curious friend, child or relative or just fancy re
Would you guys rate this ?
They slot together unlike normal ones
Yea
I still prefer the tactical squad
That set is bit expensive
Not really
But the tactical squad can be 20 to 25 in money in depends on wich country you live in
By me it cost around 20 euros
I live in New Zealand
Ah
That makes sense
Than the tactical squad wil be a tiny bit expensive than the European price
Yeah bro
That woud be 81 dollars for the tactical squad in gw
Building and painting models is a fun and exciting way to engage with the hobby, and it only gets more rewarding with time. You’ll need a few tools and a set of paints to get started, and this box includes the basics that will form the core of your hobby kit.Get started with a pair of comfortable clippers to remove you
Is this worth it getting started ?
Will probably be more expensive per piece
True
Will just have to consistently wash the singular brush
