Would not recommend aeldari (elves) currently as a first army, since some of their stuff is still made in citadel finecast (resin). Then again, a lot of the good stuff got plastic updates. In any case, proceed with caution with aeldari. Drukhari (dark elves) are mostly plastic anyway, and have some of the easiest conversions or substitutions for the stuff that isn't.

Some plastic models can be cleaned with acetone, but you have to be super delicate, basically gently scrub with a tooth brush dipped in it followed by a quick rinse in water, then you basically repeat that process and it takes forever

And you will probably still have some distortion in the details
