Someone got a bit too carried away with an airbrush. And a lot of the detail gets lost in the OSL.

Some questionable color choices as well. Like the purple cabling.

It's still servicable and could be made better with some smarter choices. Like making the OSL more tyrquise blue so it does not clash so much, as well as pushing it further with some white in the center. And using it more sparingly.

The purple just seems off wherever it is present.

Needs more highlights and shadows on the metals and the highlights that are there could be made smoother (like ob the hood and the knee). And there are some mistakes that could use fixing, like the red overspray on the back panels.

That would easily push it to higher tabletop/lower display standard.

Just start using transparent paint so you see the undertones of everything, like how actual late would interact but no you have to use stupid opaque paints because transparent painter some reason really bad and they don't provide good enough cover to you know you have to always have all that titanium white and then you don't wear a mask when using carcinogenic pigments and you give yourself lung cancer

I think you are looking at it the wrong way. Miniature painting is a part of a bigger hobby, wargaming, for most people. And majority of those people have no semblence of the theory of it, they just want painted models on the table. They tend to replicate people whose style they think looks good, because they do not know how to do it by themselves. Gatekeeping the hobby behind an art degree is...not something I appreciate.

You can put a thousand coats of varnish on something and you like the look, doesn't mean others will but that doesn't matter because you like it yourself.

I am not educated in art and I am not great at painting. I imitate styles and techniques I see people use and think they look good (and fail at it), including Richard Grey you mentioned, because whenever I see his models, my mind refuses to comprehend how he even did that, but also I think it looks incredible.

Richard Gray does excellent work but that's his own style, a lot of what he does is very fine glazes on top of glazes, That's what a lot of those styles tend to be

You're trying to make the opaque paint more transparent so you can get a layer effect that blends through more

This way the undertones from different paints will shine through and give you different variations when you look at it

My problem is when people try to enforce somebody else's style on me and say that is the only way to paint, which is very common within this hobby.

The best way I'd describe it is: Its easier to get into shooting range than it is to figure how to ferry a entire melee army across the board without dying to enemy shooting
