I hate the new GW models for one reason. They are multi part monopose.

With the old ones atleast I can use whatever arms with whatever torso on whatever model. It was universal and that’s what I liked. These new models take away that freedom of choice to choose what your model should look like.

They could have improved the older models by giving us new content with them like the heads they did in the cadians shock trooper squad. Doing that but on a wider scale with all the squads and just generally adding new options would have been a better move

Reason is people like me who collect massive armies. It’s hard to make multipose models look the same when you can angle the torso and the arms as well as the head.

With monopose it’s just all the same. Every squad will have a super unique pose. It doesn’t look good on a grander scale

Original plan oddly enough was to do a Slaaneshi knight - still use Armigers rather than the Chaos ones, because what real follower of the God of Excess/Beauty/Et cetera would be caught dead piloting an almost literal junkheap?
(Hence the prominent purple colour scheme)

The flowers idea was mostly inspired by the Chaos Wastes from Vermintide. Whenever Slaanesh has its eye on somewhere, there's just random flowers over everything. And weird pain wheel things, but also flowers.

Probably the easiest way for blood drips is to glue a bit of nylon string and then many coat of Blood for the blood god technical. As it flows due to gravity, it will naturaly make that drip shape. Repeat till you are satisfied with the result. Just make sure it's always fully dry before applying the next coat.

Another nice way to make gore is to smother around some PVA glue and then drip in a drop of superglue, let it do its thing for a second and then stretch and pull it with a toothpick. You'll get a neat fleshly appearence, just paint it with pinks and reds once it's dry. But probably test if on something before hand. 😛

so its tint strength is wonky since it has a lot of carbon black and titanium white in it

edge things with silver in some places, put very light streaks of a silver done, bonus points for putting a color below that silver, it could be say a red iron oxide color or even a lighter base tone

it can really be anything, it would basically act as though there was a primer under the main coat

the most common primers we use for vehicles are things like zinc chromate which can come in yellow to a green, and iron oxide primers which are a deep almost brownish red

they can also be brown, yellow and orange

go with professional grade yellows, hobby grade are vastly inferior since they are basically craft paint chemically speaking.

they all use airylide and dairylide because of people licking their brushes too so it creates more issues

but those pigments got banned in europe for tattooing because they cause neurological disorders

yellow pigments are for the most part heavily transparent, this is why mini painters complain endlessly about them because they dont use the good yellows. Learn the pigments early and it helps you in the long run.

it technically is, the metallics are true metal pigments and the corrosion is made from oxidizing copper in hydrogen peroxide. I made all the paints for it

some of the corrosion is brominated beta synthetic copper mixed with hydrated chromium oxide

made those pigments too and that brominated beta synthetic copper is an experiment I never want to do again

it was almost as bad as the time I tried to make blue verdier and set fire to the entire lab

Mixed it wrong and it exploded, something no one told me would happen

reminds me of my first prussian blue oil paint that caught fire, those were the days

Sort of, I use synthetic iron oxide pigments and baking soda. If you turn the baking soda mixture into a glaze, when it dries it will leave random crystals in places.

naw those are easy, the trick is to take your hobby whites and yellows and throw them in the garbage, then invest in professional grade stuff. The issue with yellows is they are all some form of monoazo yellow, which is very transparent with a bad tint strength, they are used because they are thought of as the most safe for brush lickers, however they mix zinc white into a lot of those yellows which is toxic, its used in it to stabilize the titanium white, unfortunately it causes issues with the kaolin they commonly use unless they get the medical grade, which is very expensive compared to industrial grade which has impurities in it.

Same goes for white, also makes it much easier if you do a 50-1 white to black ratio as the carbon black has a smaller pigment size and will fill the gaps of the titanium white.

TL;DR: just go get professional grade fluid acrylics.

I never thought to use what is effectively rust to paint rust effects. It sounds so obvious when I write out. I assume you glaze on the baking soda + water paste after painting with the iron oxide pigments?

mix in retarder for wet blending, makes things super easy. Mix in a tiny bit of green with the red to do shading on it

I will say Golden generally will make some of the better products on the market because they are designing most of their for the conservation community which requires a much higher grade of items than normal artists

Liquitex was the first acrylic paint on the market, so they have some interesting products for it

matt varnish makes things less glossy

gloss varnish does the opposite

A varnish will protect the paint layer

for streaking grime as an example

it basically seals a layer of paint

depends on the varnish, if its acrylic varnish, it just changes the sheen of it and provides no tangible protection. Enamel will. Also matte varnish will not provide any durability in any case

actually, even my custom varnish that is impact resistance will still have damage on it when I drop it, most varnishes arent impact resistant at all unfortunately

they are still thermoplastics so getting your hands near it will remove it

need nitrocellulose varnish for any real durability
