Can it really be called a parody when most of the media related to the source material seems to glorify or even display the actions the characters take as noble?

I feel games like Space Marine 2 and Darktide blur the line between parody and full on propaganda to the imperium, which makes sense in a way, since we're seeing it from the imperium's perspective. But still.

Space King is a parody, Helldivers is a parody, Warhammer 40k.... I dunno half of the time if the writers want to make a criticism of some aspect of the universe, or if they just want you to accept that the world those people live in is completely different from ours, and you're supposed to just accept that their moral compass if way more messed up than ours and go along for the ride.

Judge Dredd has a similar problem, i went to read the first issues and they were clearly just complete satire on police brutality, but eventually ended up developing more into the fiction side of it than the commentary and criticism of the 80s England and the abuse of authority. You can find some comments or satirical aspects in modern Judge Dredd, but they seem more like a relic of the past rather then the focal point, and i guess that's just what happens when you have an ip go on for that long.

If you're in the know of the Lore, you know that the Space Marines are basically child soldiers that get indoctrinated from childhood and mentally brainwashed into becoming blind servants to a system that is built on fear and ignorance to justify its atrocities.

On the other hand, if you give your average joe Space Marine 2, he will not have any of that knowledge being played on their head to contextualize all the actions Titus takes in the game, he's just gonna go "Wow, the Ultramarines are fucking cool", (which is the WORST MESSAGE you can give to a new fan).

Is that person media iliterate? I don't think so, especially when the media they are consuming tries they hardest to make the Space Marines look like "The Emperor's Angels", "The last Bastion of humanity in a cruel and careless world". So blame mainstream Warhammer for not being good at portraying the themes of satire and criticism, instead of the average joe for getting that message which the creators of that media clearly wanted to deliver it.
