Mmmmh I get where you're coming from, but I don't think they're just space marine but fantasy. Initially they were intended that way, but from what I understand, they're more fleshed out and they're own thing.

Like they got stakes for being a Stormcast (memory loss and loss of self per revival) and I like that many of them weren't even warriors from their past lives, but people who wanted to do good for their people, like being doctors or helping out the poor or just being generally selfless. It's a much nicer image than indoctrinated super soldiers from 40k.
