From what i read in the Lexicanum Tau'va is very new, so I'm pretty sure the Tau still don't have warp travel, they just fly with spaceships and reach places in millions of years

Tau slipstream modules kinda jump through the warp real quick, I think? They don't spend extended periods of time in it. The 4th sphere tearing open a rift into the warp was because they activated a bunch of them all at the same time, with tau'va getting them out of it eventually.

you shouldnt be expecting to outlast a horde forever unless you're playing as some sorta dodge happy knife zealot, a gameplay type thats too slow at actually killing anything for me

I play DSP Desperado scum, so I use F to mow down hordes without wasting ammo and mix dodging with collateral shots to thin numbers without running out of ammo.

DAP is better horde clear, but I prefer being able to 3 or 4-shot most specials before they are close enough to be a problem.

I've had a decent amount of luck on hivescum with desperado, I feel like the only issue is when they send a wave of crushers and I'm out of rockets or in a particularly tight space

On desperado you can rock a melee that dunks crushers

I think shivs get almost the same blessings, so it can still work, but I don't think it gets as much backstabbing damage.
